>Jordan Peele is producing a new Candyman movie and has cast Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the new Candyman. Monkeypay Creative Director Ian Cooper was on a Produced By Conference panel The New Age of Producing Horror. Deadline asked Cooper how Candyman would fit in with what Monkeypaw has done with Get Out and Us. His answer, surprisingly, was that Peele wants to address how toxic fandom has become.
>“We talk a lot about fans and the idea of appeasing fans and when you do that and how do you do that and when do you not do that,” Cooper said. “I think my issue with fandom is that it’s really problematic. It’s probably the most problematic thing facing the genre.”
>Cooper is likely referring to fan petitions to remake the last season of Game of Thrones or fans bullying actors like Kelly Marie Tran online. Peele used Get Out and Us to address race and inequality in entertaining stories.
>“It typically comes with a dogma that is abrasive and that is more resistant to change and permutation than you would think,” Cooper continued. “I think what we’re trying to do with Candyman is both be mischievous in how we address the relationship to the first film but also be very satisfying.”
>Candyman is based on a Clive Barker story. The 1992 film starred Tony Todd as Candyman, a former slave lynched for a relationship with a white woman. If you say his name five times in the mirror, he comes for you. The film spawned two sequels.
>“What we’re doing with Candyman and how Jordan is crafting it on the page is going to be very exciting and rewarding to audiences that haven’t seen the original film as well as people who’ve seen the original film,” Cooper said. “In a broad sense of the word, this film will stand alone if you’ve never heard of a film called Candyman and will dovetail in a pretty complicated and interesting way to the original. In short, I think this will really fit in with what we’re doing with Us and did with Get Out in a way that will be circuitous.”
>The Candyman that Peele is now producing is the latest of many approaches Peele has attempted.
>“It’s something Jordan has been talking to me about for many years and it’s gone through iterations that are so high concept they’re basically a Gus Van Sant film,” Cooper said. “They’ve gone through many iterations let’s just say.”
>Tony Todd said he has been approached by the producers of Candyman, but Cooper would not elaborate on Todd’s potential involvement. “Tony Todd is just no comment, full stop,” Cooper said.
>Candyman is set for a June 12, 2020 release.
Ryder Gutierrez
Toxic and problematic are two of the most obnoxious descriptors. If you use them in your argument it is hard to take you seriously.
James Diaz
I'm not reading all that but I know that somebody should murder that nigger Peele.
Lincoln Perry
Anyone who uses phrases like “toxic” and “problematic” always a good indicator that that person is a total faggot
Kevin Parker
When I was a kid, someone told me that Candy Man was a character who took people and cut them up into pieces and made them into candy. It freaked me out.
Then I found out he was a lame knock-off of Bloody Mary and his creep factor drastically lowered for me.
>see post about new candyman >get excited >first words are jordan peele >nope.exe
Benjamin Ortiz
>someone told me that Candy Man was a character who took people and cut them up into pieces and made them into candy sounds like that Ice Cream Man movie
what's candy man even about? I see a black guy with bees. is he The Pain?
James King
You give this dude one movie after Key & Peele and look where this guy's career goes. Three films later and he thinks he's some kind of auteur making impacts on the cultural zeitgeist with his hard-hitting metanarrative triumphs.
Jonathan Evans
>problematic no need to read any further
Carson Howard
>fans that disagree are problematic >they need to be ostracized and excised from the fan community >bully them until they bend or disappear >only agreement with whatever studio decisions are made is acceptable >just hand over your money and stfu And then they wonder when their garbage flops. In their hearts they knew it would flop due to the quality. But now they have created the perfect scape goat for their own failures. It's the fans' fault. Not the production's.
John Morgan
>“I think my issue with fandom is that it’s really problematic. It’s probably the most problematic thing facing the genre.” >Candyman is based on a Clive Barker story. The 1992 film starred Tony Todd as Candyman, a former slave lynched for a relationship with a white woman.
Why remake this shit? Get some new fucking ideas. At least he knows it's shit already since he's already blaming the fans for not liking it.
Benjamin Rodriguez
>The 1992 film starred Tony Todd as Candyman, a former slave lynched for a relationship with a white woman.
How do bees play into that and why is he killign people?
Parker Walker
What about the horror Peele? Will it even have good kills and atmosphere?
This will be a shitty movie if his only mission is to "get back at the fans".
Hunter Walker
Wtf. How was that movie toxic or whatever. Get fucked faggots
Ryder Williams
evil racemixer gets killed with bees, becomes a murder ghost
Brayden Myers
Watch it user it's pretty decent.
James Taylor
Say his name five times in front of a mirror and he'll kill you, there's fuck all plot to it.
Jaxon Hernandez
>a former slave lynched for a relationship with a white woman >fan petitions to remake the last season of Game of Thrones or fans bullying actors like Kelly Marie Tran online Morally speaking, the same thing. I don't get the negative reaction.
Sebastian Mitchell
imagine watching anything directed or produced by this absolute hack racebaiter reddit favorite
Mason Bell
Watch the movie, then you'll be satisfied and have no reason to watch the Candypeele
Easton White
I think they killed him by covering him in honey and letting bees sting him to death/infest his corpse.
Aiden Carter
Bees represent the drones that are fans and their toxic stings as they swarm around celebs and subsequently kill themselves due to their self destructive lifestyle.
Sebastian Allen
He's saying fans are toxic for having opinions and giving feedback and expressing what they desire; basically they should just be glad they get anything at all.
Benjamin Collins
how about instead we in this thread appreciate the original's soundtrack: youtu.be/tzck22n3Pws
Julian Hernandez
Damn I really liked this movie. The score is top tier and it's one of the only films I know of filmed at my alma mater.
Ironically the original short story didn't have a racial aspect at all, it was purely about class. Instead of the projects it took place in a British Council Estate and everyone was white.
Incidentally, if you've never read them, the Books of Blood are amazing, easily the best modern horror anthology from when Barker was at his prime, rather than now where he describes a demon, gives it an erection and calls it a day.
Jacob Hill
This stuff it top cringe. Shitting on fans in your work is as bad as when someone puts in a critic character and makes them a douche or moron.
It's self-indulgent and takes me out of the story.
Bentley Hall
Anyone that uses those word seriously is a sure sign of a little soi boy bitch.
Cameron Scott
Is there an instruction book on how to ruin every franchise?
Adrian Scott
films made in English speaking countries are just used as vectors to demoralize whites and to rile-up non-whites to the point where they start murdering whites. They're not films, they are tools of ethnic cleansing.
Tyler Jenkins
ok
Anthony Ramirez
The Protocols of the Meetings of the Learned Elders of Zion
Elijah Turner
Peele has a great sense of tone, pacing, etc. He is a more than competent director. But his writing is just so stuffed with overwrought, banal analogies to political or very specific real world ideologies. And i say analogy instead of metaphor because that's how dong-headedly slapped into the narrative they are, with no sense of appreciation for the ACTUAL STORY. His stuff will get worse and worse as he gets into the smell of his own farts more and more. When he starts directing things, written by other competent writers, it'll be good to watch
Zachary Bell
Because the movie is about candy man teaching a nerd how to get a girl friend : just BEE yourself
Isaac Mitchell
I've run into hood black dudes that don't really give a fuck about whitey, yet nerdy, polite black dudes grow up to haaaate white people. Why is that?
because nerdy, polite black guys grow up with self hating white upper middle classes borgies who are the same people working to bring about communism at the moment
Ayden Ross
but why?
William Thomas
If you say "The word" five time he comes for you
Levi Carter
>how dare those horrible nerds make such spoiled, entitled demands from reasonably-priced franchise installments targeted at the people who made that franchise popular in the first place! It's just bullying, really, isn't it? If only these dissatisfied consumers with very little actual power and influence would stop bullying the poor, innocent, massively wealthy corporations and leave them in peace to hack out inferior garbage designed to siphon money from idiots and exploit what positive emotions remain un-strangled out of existence
Colton Gutierrez
"Like my movie" The Movie
Josiah Cook
I'm glad someone posted this. iirc it's also about the power of rumour coming to life. In the original story Candyman is basically a meme that becomes real.
Ayden Russell
The same reason nerdy, polite white dudes grow up to haaaate white people.
Thomas Clark
Thank God. I remember thinking this when PlayStation fans were upset at Infamous' character design of Cole.
If you don't like it, don't buy it, but leave the people in charge of it alone, you entitled fucks.

How do people like this have a career?

Mason Torres
This. Never seen such an artificially inflated career. He's like a single step up from Spike Lee.
Colton Anderson
'Us' was legit one of the worst paced movies I ever saw; this nigger got Smollett level protection racket going on.
Jace Martin
god Peele is such a nigger
Asher Gomez
Don’t criticize anything. Consume and obey.
Jordan Anderson
Feels kinda weird they're remaking this. I know it's a cult movie, but it's certainly not big enough where I'd say it was worthy of remaking.
Connor Thomas
>Lets bring in sales by calling the fanbase toxic and imply they are a bunch of Nazis.
>It’s probably the most problematic thing facing the genre The genre? Horror? MonkeyPaw's movies have been hysterically well-received and over the last two decades horror fans (mainstream included) have embraced everything from straight torture porn to foreign ghosts to "lol nothing happens" no budget found footage to Peele's social commentary.
Fuck off, horror audiences are probably the most acceptable to change and weird shit.
Leo Ross
Jordan Peele is the Rick and Morty of film producers.
I scream and you scream and we all scream and scream and scream and scream.
Joshua Adams
>STOP DEMANDING MORE FROM YOUR ENTERTAINMENT YOU BRAINDEAD PEASANTS, JUST CONSUME AND CONSUME AND TAKE WHAT WE GIVE YOU t. worthless nigger who makes worthless shit that is heavily overrated by braindead libcucks who will clap for anything that satisfies their masochistic desires to be punished for their skin color
Kayden Garcia
Nerdy black dudes are typically have more white blood in them, thus giving them lighter skin and higher IQ and combined with a a suburban upbringing they are rejected by hood blacks. However, they are still different enough that they can't completely relate to whites, even if they are accepted by them.
This causes massive identity issues and creates overcompensation to seek approval from their chosen identity group. The average interracial white/black child is 60% white, yet they are among the most radical in the black power movement. See Jordan Peele or the hapas and mestizos on /pol/ who are obsessed with saving the white race. Having a mixed raced child is one of the most cruel things you can do to a kid.
Angel Allen
>Monkeypay more like... >what Monkeypaw has done nice typo Fuck them, they want our money, they better do something we like

are the candyman movies any good? do they hold up to this day?

>what's candy man even about? I see a black guy with bees. is he The Pain?
It's one of my favourite horror films. You should just watch it. It is great.
>in the 1800s a race mixer is lynched where the Cabrini Green ghetto would later be built >he had his hand sawed off and a rusty hook jammed into the stump >he is a legend and people there are afraid of him >White woman in college decides to research it for her thesis >kind of ends up damaging the general belief of Candyman myth >Candyman has to come back and start killing so his legend is not forgotten >hollup where da white wimmin at? >he falls in love with her and tries to take her soul forever
Landon Clark
>Why the fuck even bring back Candyman if they're doing this cringe shit with it
It's a complete story. There is nothing to build off of. Cabrini Green doesn't even exist anymore.
Nicholas White
I mean, if he’s also addressing the type of fans who go ballistic when their gay ship doesn’t become canon, or harass and dox people who like other ships while calling them pedophiles or bigots, sure, go for it.
Michael Hill
>Jordan Peele is producing a new Candyman fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you god damnit fuck this asshole ruining everything fuck fucking shit fuck.

Looks like someone can't accept criticism about how terrible his Twilight Zone is.
Asher Rodriguez
this
Bentley Gray
It's a twist on the bloody mary urban legend except it's a black guy
good movie though
Jonathan Long
>Clive Barker wrote the original Candyman story Well shit, I was not aware of that. Looks like it was part of his "Books of Blood" short stories/series, which was really fucking good. (I only read the first few volumes) The mans movies are really hit and miss, but he's pretty amazing at describing every greasy, bloody smell and sound, you can almost fucking taste it in those books.
That nigger Peele needs to get drop kicked and raped by the South African vibrant youth.
Chase Flores
I know. But honestly, most of Clive Barker's works are obnoxiously feminist and 'woke', even though they were written long before that was even a thing. He wrote a story about demons from under the Arizona desert creating women and how men were a filthy, disgusting knock-off version of them.
Gavin Wood
Some were good. Some were crap. Same as every other anthology written by anyone, ever. I just wish you could tell from the subject matter which ones were going to suck. One of my favorites was the pig-worshiping cult in the kid's reformatory.
Mixed niggas are always the loudest with the "OOGA BOOGA FUCK WHITEY" because blacks don't accept them and whites don't accept them and they usually look like la cretura
Jayden Harris
>Describes a demon and gives it an erection It's good work if you can get it
Christopher Murphy
Surprised you could type that with all those dicks in your ass
Ethan Miller

This guy is the whitest black guy i've ever seen, why is he so anal about race?

Narcissism is becoming a more common thing in society. Everyone is starting to believe that they are the most important and special thing in the universe. Soon enough narcissism won't even be considered a mental disorder because it will just be completely normal.

Why is he intent on ruining every horror franchise? The new Twilight Zone is such shit
Levi Gutierrez
That's toxic and problematic.
Blake Campbell
I wouldn't call it a horror movie really. It is more like a dark fairy tale.
Nathan Watson
If you use them as words like these people do you deserve to die.
Wyatt Clark
Virginia Madsen used to be fukken smokin'.
Christopher Butler
Clive Barker likes putting demons that have raging hard ons in his stories. It's usually the first thing he puts in their descriptions too.
Charles Clark
They’re lazy buzzwords for people who have zero arguments or know their product is shit but need you to buy into it anyway, such as feminism.

the worst part about this is that peele, and other people like him, ACTUALLY THINK this is something recent.

Anyone who gets triggered by words like that is a pathetic snowflake.

It's hilarious seeing a board like Yea Forums, that basically revels in misogynistic and racist behavior, to get this butthurt because someone points out they're part of the problem with entertainment today: completely toxic fandom who care more about bitching and whining about everything except the actual substance of movies and tv shows they don't even watch and instead obsess over how hurt their feelings are because they saw a black man kiss a white woman.
Benjamin Perez
based. assmad entitled fans are becoming a huge thing lately. it needs to be addressed
Eli Lopez
What's the fucking point? Candyman fans have never been toxic lmao, people fucking love Tony Todd. I hope he stays away from this shit.
>Jordan Peele >His answer, surprisingly, was that Peele wants to address how toxic fandom has become. >my issue with fandom is that it’s really problematic
halfbreeds are always insecure about their racial makeup, the half black ones tend to go really hard it also happens to a lesser extent with blacks that grew up outside of the ghetto, like Donald Glover, who also tries realllllllly hard to seem woke to reclaim some of his lost blackness for having grown up as a rich kid in the suburbs
Isaiah Reed
If every person on planet earth has used the terms “toxic” and “problematic” in their new meaning unironically just straight up died, the world would be such a better place.
