Why are Americans so keen to push this Black Legend-esque narrative against the Soviet Union/Russia? I mean, it's not like modern Russia is a threat to American power, is it?

>I mean, it's not like modern Russia is a threat to American power, is it?
hell no

So why then? Why claim "tens of thousands of deaths" when in reality it was 50 or so?

Why make the minister of coal, who in reality was a 60 year old dude who started working as a miner at the age of 15 into that cringey mess? Why take the entirety of Ignatenko's wife plotline from Alexievich's book but then change the finale and make her kid die instead of live up as a completely healthy girl? Why invent the entirety of the plotline about clearing the roof with "biorobots"? Why?

>So why then? Why claim "tens of thousands of deaths" when in reality it was 50 or so?
lmao, you slavs are honestly subhumans as this point

Radiation in a wide spread area does not kill immediate but slowly degrades the person over time making it harder to link it to the cause. However the spike of cancer rates should be added to the official death tally, but that would admit blame on the problem being bigger than it actually was.

Because Democrats stand to gain if more Americans dislike or are afraid of Russia. The reality that Russia has the GDP of a US state, doesn’t need to ever enter the equation- most people don’t look into anything.

Because Americans always need a boogeyman to point at and blame all their problems on. If they're not in conflict, the nation's issues are noticed, and the people get angry.
War is peace.

first for Dyatlov Pass

Because russian subhumans are still a threat like a piece of shit on the street, you have to always avoid it not to step on it, unless one is a russian who like to smear themselves with shit.

People did clear the roof what the fuck are you talking about.
I don't know for sure about the kid thing but she had a kid who lived later which the show tells you.

It isn't a Russia bashing series you dipshit. It portrayed fucking heroes doing something to save basically all of Europe from ruin by sacrificing themselves. Many, many people died from exposure over the years and that's a fact. Stating otherwise just makes you look like a brainlet.

This is exactly what russkies do, they blame US for their failures. russkies are subhumans that are jealous of American prosperity.

The problems are usually stemmed from unchecked capitalism that is explored through documentaries that is often mocked at for swinging too far to the left.

people really underrate how shitty USSR actually was.

Wrong, CIA agents inflitrated Pripyat and helped local population to contain radiation. We should all thank Americans for saving Europe from apocalypse. Blame russians for shitty reactors.

Only people that underrate it are the people who lived in it.

You are fucking retard commie, stop blaming American autists in modern russian problems.

No conspiracy the writers just aren't very good, can't portray anything with more nuance than noble suffering scientist heroes and KGB boogeymen

yes and no. only lazy ussr boomers and 1st world commie zoomers imagine it as a paradise.

thanks for proving my point.
i think the problems are way deeper than just capitalism
>women's suffrage

it's odd that they took such offense at the show considering it mostly ran Dyatlov through the mud which is exactly what the official soviet position was.

>Being this bluepilled

In 1994, thirty-one deaths were directly attributed to the accident, all among the reactor staff and emergency workers.[148] As of the 2008 report by the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, and the total number of confirmed deaths from radiation was 64 and was expected to continue to rise.

The Chernobyl Forum predicts that the eventual death toll could reach 4,000 among those exposed to the highest levels of radiation (200,000 emergency workers, 116,000 evacuees and 270,000 residents of the most contaminated areas); this figure is a total causal death toll prediction, combining the deaths of approximately 50 emergency workers who died soon after the accident from acute radiation syndrome, 15 children who have died of thyroid cancer and a future predicted total of 3935 deaths from radiation-induced cancer and leukaemia.[8]

However this 4000 estimates includes all influences on the affected population. Including the influence of the collapse of the medical system in post soviet countries, stresses from evacuation, etc etc etc

>ussr boomers
Exactely, the part of population most positive towards USSR is the part that lived in it and longer it lived there the more positive it is.

No one imagines it as a paradise, but it was a glorious country until the revisionist era (Kruschchev). But even the Revisionist SU was better than the capitalist great powers.

US problem, who cares.

The funniest fucking thing is that we aren't even discussing the standards of living in the soviet union (which were ofcourse better than in the post-soviet countries - that should be obvious who'd ever been to ukraine or russia), but the fact that almost the entirety of the plot of the series was made up.

Picrelated is the minister of coal. Here's his wiki page. He began to work as a miner at the age of 15. Why did they change his character?

Don’t forget that Soviet supermarkets were empty, people couldn’t buy anything, there was nothing to buy. Just like north Koreans nowadays are mesmerized by sheer number of products on supermarkets shelves in Western countires, russkies in soviet russia were hungry angry pathetic commies.

why does that image disagree with your post?

Where did you get that I give a shit about "the official soviet position"
Black face miners staring down the minister of coal who comes and visits them in person. Three heroic men going to their deaths to turn on water pumps for 300 rubles (they all survived and turning on the pumps were just part of their normal duties)
If this sounds like something a hack would write, its because it they were written by a hack (esteemed creator of the hangover part II). I don't think any of this comes from some anti-soviet agenda, but from the guy being a shitty adolescent-brained writer. Twilight-era USSR was shit but it wasn't I'll-shoot-you-if-you-don't-fly-over-a-exposed-nuclear-reactor shit.

>+40 years olds want ussr back
92% of population of Hungary are 40+ olds?

>yet you couldnt buy anything with it.
Yeah you didn't had a lot of luxury goods that existed in Capitalism, so what

how so?

>luxury goods
you barely had any goods. imagine standing 4 or 5 hours in a line just to buy a loaf of bread or a couple of oranges. not to mention waiting in line for 10 years to being able to buy a low quality car.

This is the PROOF russia good, america bad.

You claim it is better tha the great capitalist powers, but the image, and I have no clue what it's sources are, says that the standard of living is behind the US, Britain, Australia, Sweden, and West Germany.

>Let me tell you about your country
why do americans do this?

This show is a joke. Were there cover-ups? Of course, as with any nuclear incident. Was their government mistakes and corruption? Of course, it was 1986 when the embryonic restoration of capitalism was growing ripe in the USSR under the 'leadership' of Gorbachev. Was there engineering mistakes? Of course, after all these nuclear reactors were designed and built in an era when nuclear science was still just developing and thus have problems.

However HBO's Chernobyl over-emphasizes and exaggerates these things. They take actual issues and twist them into an anti-communist scare movie.

The main idea of this show is that the authorities of the Soviet Union were more terrible than the Chernobyl disaster.

The biggest example is the diabolical KGB plot to keep reactor deficiencies a state secret. That's just a straight up lie; it didn't and couldn't have existed. Who in the right mind and in what Universe (or alternate reality) would keep critical nuclear reactor parameters from the very nuclear scientists that run the reactors (all 16 of them)?

This plot-point is the major secret uncovered by the female nuclear physicist. That's ignoring people being forced to go work at gun-point.

Or another example. In the first episode a nurse, upon seeing the huge fire at the power plant, asks a doctor if they have any Iodine pills. A doctor who works at a hospital in a city founded with the sole purpose to serve a nuclear power plant… IODINE PILLS, the single most common form of treatment against radiation contamination and would definitely be supplied to such a hospital (especially during the Cold War). And on top of this idiotic question the doctor says, and I'm not making this up, "Why would we need Iodine pills?"

1/2

>he believes the information found on the internet about the country in which he's never been.

Attached: 1556644290707.jpg (540x720, 33K)

So what anti-soviet memes can you see just from these 2 examples?
- Muh evul KGB conspiracy (Because Totalitarian control is so totalitarian that it intentionally undermines its own work).
- Everyone only did work at gun-point
- Questionable supply availability in hospitals (despite the USSR's medical services being comparable to the USA)
- Incompetent/uneducated doctor (a schtick similar to 'soviet engineers' who repair things by banging on them)

Here are the main facts about Chernobyl that make this series trash:
- Nobody was forced to work at gunpoint
- Everyone received iodine and other treatment
- No one blocked the evacuation, on the contrary, it was organized, albeit not immediately, because authorities did not understand the complexity of the situation
- None of the workers at Chernobyl were there "for the money". That's not what Soviet society was like then. When there was a disaster (accidents, earthquakes, etc.), thousands of volunteers came and helped.
- No-one was drinking vodka at the site. Not only were all stores shut down due to evacuation but there was a 'Dry' law declared there.

HBO's Chernobyl is a typical "based on a real story" series/film. Supposedly based on reality but in reality its a degenerate mockery of the truth. A well filmed piece of anti-soviet/socialist propaganda by the USA and its willing Western vassals.

>show ordinary Russians as heroic and brave
>show Russian politicians as selfish and dumb
>WHY ARE AMERICANS INSULTING US RUSSIANS THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE WE ORDINARY RUSSIANS WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS FAKE SHOW
lol

>Why take the entirety of Ignatenko's wife plotline from Alexievich's book but then change the finale and make her kid die instead of live up as a completely healthy girl?
...The girl died immediately, like the show portrayed. She had a son with another man but he had permanent health issues from the damage the radiation did to her system.

Are you fucking retarded?

you slow or something?

I was born in the USSR, in Estonia to be exact, and lived enough to see this. Can you say the same?

>Who in the right mind and in what Universe (or alternate reality) would keep critical nuclear reactor parameters from the very nuclear scientists that run the reactors (all 16 of them)?
The goverment that was using the reactors for military purposes. The show omits that the RBMKs were designed in a way you can extract material for nuclear weapons from burned out fuel and as such the details for reactors were kept topsikrit.

Exactly, it had any ability to make plutonium (for nuclear warheads).

We both know you weren't.

are you going to make a point or not?

>Plot points considered too stupid for a medieval fantasy show literally came true in the Soviet Union

Top lels

Attached: The Soviets kind of forgot about the control rods.jpg (487x494, 65K)

I know I was, but bringing this up is enough to blow the fuses on "muh anti-USSR propaganda". You cunts have never been in a former Soviet republic.

Your supposed anecdote doesn't mean shit, the reality is that the majority of people who lived in the SU want it back, want Socialism back.

so... the american's safeguards actually worked is what he's saying
what's his argument then?

meant for

And? Brits would want their British Empire back but that's not going to happen.

Its central theme is the inevitable and catastrophic failure of bloated bureaucracy. Pretty sure that the show is applicable to every government and society in the world, especially post Obama America, even if the true events of the story come from the USSR specifically.

Plot-twist:
>Benioff was born David Friedman in New York City, to a Jewish family with roots in Austria, Romania, Germany, Poland and Russia.
>Russia

The only ones butthurt about it are tankies, who take insults to the muh glorious ussr personally.

Russians are bootlickers to authoritarians.

>inevitable and catastrophic failure of bloated bureaucracy
I've asked people about the series (who were 20-30 in '86') and they all agree about this point. The only complain was about inaccuracy regarding small details like uniforms, boots and etc.

For entirely different reasons. Although there's too the return to being a Great Power variable but for example even Russia today is still quite relevant and mighty even. Still the majority of people want Socialism to return. And the reasons are clear: no unemployment, healthcare, education, affordable, secure life etc.

Attached: A0A4A6E3.png (640x651, 68K)

What about the Poles, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Romanians, Czechs etc..
You think they want socialism back? You think they regret the collapse of the USSR?

This mini-series wasn't capitalism vs. communism, "Russia bad" or "nuclear power bad" you dipshits.

It was about abuse of power and lying to cover up authority mistakes for their reputation, killing people to save money and save the leaders' reputations. Many of the citizens acted very heroically to save countless people. Meanwhile the people at the top only want to look good and save a buck, no matter how many millions died to make them look good.

This happens in any type of organization "private" or "public" is very basic large group dynamics at work. This is a shallow as fuck reading. Your politics don't matter this happens. Denying that terrible things are happening to save face, laziness, because people are scared happens all the time, too. Lies and more lies aren't limited to one country or kind of government or even to governments at all, companies do this all the time. Families and groups or friends do this. It's universal.

see:
Though it's not exactely about wanting it back, but about their opinion about it.

Her first child did die though

source? All I remember is that in the Alexievich's book it's stated that her child by Ignatenko, the one's she was pregnant with during the disaster, turned out to be healthy

or is my memory playing tricks on me?

>Lies and more lies aren't limited to one country or kind of government
Yeah but amerimutts do actually believe their government is perfect tho.

Attached: Screenshot_20190531-151443.png (720x1280, 338K)

They are part of the imperialist EU so no, they benefit a lot from the status quo. Still the ones who lived back then and are woke, would want Socialism to return yes. But it's a minority these days in the countries you mentioned, maybe not Romania nor in other ex-eastern bloc countries.

The US did to Egypt what the failed political class claims Russia did to the US: fomented a bloody revolution during the Arab Spring.

Sorry I missed that. Nice gif, did you make that yourself?

Because their economy is crumbling so they are trying to distract their populace with finger pointing to their tried and true "enemies" like Russia and China and Iran.

It's the reason why you're seeing so much of a focus on Russia in the US and UK. Anglos are dying and are desperate to fool the world in their favour.

Attached: 1429196942836.png (304x287, 116K)

Considering the show gave me ostalgia, they are not doing a good job.

you should read the book again, the child died a few hours after birth. she later had another child that lived

Of course my non shill friend. HBO's and Sky Production's Chernobyl is perfect and can't be bad. Make sure to reply to every post stating or implying any different, ok?

I read some spy books and it was embarassing how effective Soviet spies were compared to Britbong spies and Yankee spies

they did drink vodka, there's video footage of vodka crates in pripyat

show it

Ooff, yes, I just checked - I was wrong.

Still, other points stand, and there are many more than that. Even setting aside the cartoonishly evil communist bureaucrats, why turn Dyatlov into a crazy idiot with zero motivation or background? It literally contradicts everything his colleagues had said about him.

Even today, if you google the show on Ukrainian news the criticizm of portrail of Dyatlov, the plant director and chief engineer (I forgot their names) is the first thing to come up

>let me tell you about your country
Do you live in the 50's user? Americans haven't had that faith in the government for years.

people-press.org/2019/04/11/public-trust-in-government-1958-2019/

This. The trade war is the proof, powers on the rise fight for open borders and markets.

BS, the bombs weren’t armed

>American emergency safety mechanisms work and don’t cause a huge disaster
I fail to see the problem here

the postscript stuff at the end of the last episode literally says that they survived. it’s that people THOUGHT BEFOREHAND they were gonna die

Kill yourself Ivan

Most Americans think the government is shit, for one reason or another. Why do you think we're always slapfighting all the time?

three mile island

The biorobot stuff was filmed. It's literally on tape. The officer's speech to them was pretty much a direct translation as well.

yeah because everyone else was dead or in camps

yes, horrible disaster. Pennsylvania is still a no go zone. Anybody who even approaches the plant dies in a matter of months.

Suddenly I have an unhealthy crush on Jared Harris.

just started episode 2, does the writing with the female scientist get any better or is she this terrible the whole way through

Them being low voltage makes them less likely to fail, not the other way around.

Brainlet here, mind explaining that?

Fuck amerikkka as well god

High voltage electricity can jump past barriers, even air.

youre all retarded lmfao, people think the radiation gave people cancer ? LFMAO !

nice one, its obviously the FUKEN amount of packages of cigarettes they were smoking, back in these days they used to smoke so fuken much tobacco its actually unbelieveable,

I am 100% sure the smoking epidemic is also the reason for why people are much weaker today, smoking literally fucking degenerates your sperm quality

I should know im a victim of having a father who smoked 10 packs a day

If it worked then why keep it a secret

>narrative against the Soviet Union/Russia?
It's set in the Soviet system, but it's as much about stupid people in positions of power in the contemporary world as anything else. In fact, you'd have to be pretty fucking stupid to think that it's *actually* a specific critique of Soviet Communism.

Mate cigarettes back then ware like ten times better, thats why you saw all those 80+ year old old timers that would chimney up a back a day their entire life

This is what happens when your whole nation is built on lies. When the lies would disappear, your entire country would collapse.
