It’s an aggressively decent movie. The hate is overblown because people need an outlet to secretly vent their utter disappointment towards Avengers: Endgame. Bashing Dark Phoenix allows them the opportunity of still being hip to the pop culture consensus (which is MCU = Good, Fox X-Men = Bad) while also letting off some fanboy steam.

It doesn’t help that the film’s production mishaps were already known by the public, fueling the unnecessary hate fire. Also the unwarranted hate towards X-Men: The Last Stand is still fresh in people’s minds for some reason, even though Thor: The Dark World is without a doubt more cinematically offensive than some serviceable 2006 Brett Ratner popcorn fare.
