Problem with razer is all it did was grab, not let go, drive around and wear out the clock. Not as exciting to watch as two flippers going at it or hypnodisc wrecking shit. Wish firestorm had won so the final would have been more interesting and we would have got razer v hypnodisc for third.

It's the garbage new format that killed Robot Wars. They're only allowed one hour to repair between matches (presumably to save money on the studio/crowd) so destruction has to be kept to a minimum. End result is lots of pussyfooting around, can't afford to risk your bot and you don't want to damage the other team too badly. Compare that to older series where house robots would tear the loser apart for the hell of it.

Also, to be brutally honest, there's too many spergs. Battlebots has no trouble finding decent competitors but 90% of RW teams come across as absolute melts. Thor and Apollo were pretty much the only two who didn't look like they were on the spectrum.

Why? its true. i get that people like RW because they're british or grew up with it or whatever but RW has all this shit getting in the way like the 'pit' which just exists to instantly end fights unclimactically. pits arent needed in weight classes above featherweight, they only existed in small weight classes because youd get wedge vs wedge fights where nobody can get a KO. but since robots are REQUIRED to have an active weapon, a pit just makes fights worse.

then you have the house robots that completely fuck up fights for the entire sake of "the audience is too brain dead to understand whats happening when theres different robots each fight"

plus the new seasons of battlebots have been really good with cutting most of the fat, and having a really good tournament format that allows weird and fun designs to get multiple chances to tard it up (plus they have so many fights they can easily afford to not show the tard fights where NOTHING happens)

Fun Fact: if you look carefully you'll see a bunch of other robots sporting a patch of diotoir fur

battlebots on the other hand has a rule that you must have a weapon plus it has no pit so epic bots like bronco minotaur tomstone and beta can thrive. Also, at least every episode one or two bots get completely dismantled by spinners which is what you watch that shit for. You want to see months of work being shredded to bits.

- Lower inner wall makes it easier to launch bots out of the arena
- Floor spikes and flipper actually have an effect
- House bots are awesome and make it fun even when some of the bots aren't very good
- The pit is good for strong pushers and control bots
- Buttons on the side with random effects are interesting and more exciting
Cons:
- House bots and hazards are more random and occasionally result in the better robot losing
Battlebots pros:
- Serrated screws are really powerful and can trap bots against the wall or shred badly built ones
- Floor saws are cool and give a reason for underside armor
- Larger arena and spiked walls give an advantage to faster bots
- Hazards not being active right away makes it more competitive
- Well lit and easier to see what's happening
Cons:
- Pulverizer hammers don't have much of an effect against newer designs
- Possible to get wedged under side spikes
- Almost impossible to flip a bot out of the arena
- Not as much for control bots to work with except putting opponents on the screws or getting points with the hammers
- Bad fights are much really boring because it relies more on the bots putting on a good show

It's not about them crying, it's about them looking awkward and unlikeable as fuck whenever they're on camera.

Because odds are if you flip it the spinner is going to hit the ground first and cause it to go apeshit. It's better to make it unflippable like Icewave.

The problem with disc bots, at least insofar as I understand the physics behind them, is that even though they can go fast as fuck, there's not a lot of weight behind them
The amount of damage put out by a bot like Ringmaster isn't enough to really put the hurt on anything well-armored
Not to mention that it has to get close to do any damage, and usually ring bots are prone to mechanical failures

You're right, but the Tombstone team solved that issue by having a killswitch for the drive chain on their controller
So all you'd have to do is turn your blade off for a second while you recover

Bots like that can still get flipped though, that happened to Hazard and I'm pretty sure it also happened to Icewave.
Son of Whyachi is the one horizontal spinner that I think is basically impossible to flip over.

Ringmaster isn't that powerful at all (although I still love the design) but I think it's the only one that can drive upside down. It seems like it can take a lot of punishment as long as nothing stops working though.

The best walker I ever saw was Drillzilla. It didn't actually have feet/legs or walk in any real sense, just little rubber rectangles stacked n a pack where the wheel would be and it shuffled around at the speed of a wheeled robot but with absurd traction that the wheeled bots couldn't beat. They changed the rules to ban that as a walker and remove the weight allowance it got as a result of it because everyone else was upset they got outplayed.

That one was great because Stinger's driver is so good and Stinger is really durable and can self-right really quickly so getting it out of the arena is probably the only way it could have been eliminated before the 3 minutes were over

I never saw Son of Whyachi fight as a walker/shuffler but that was probably the most successful since it did win the championship if I'm remembering right.

Some bots like Stinger use very cheap wheels that absorb a lot of the damage instead of the actual bot taking all the hits and wheels are way easier to replace than anything else, plus it has six of them so it's almost always able to drive even with most of them removed

In fairness it looks like it could be a legitimate danger to the audience. Personally I think they should build a pit to host the battles in so that isn't a factor and then the audience can either look down into the pit through a layer of thick protective glass or watch on giant monitors overhead.

I'm sure it would work because spinner, but I don't think it would have any real advantage over a flat bar type spinner while being more likely to break at some point. You could also get the same effect just spinning a flat square plate but then you lose the aesthetic.

most people in battlebots know fully well theyre going to get destroyed and are just there for the fun of the show. theyre like demolition derbys (but with new cars)
they edit the show to be all dramatic and everything, so it seems like people are legitimately torn up over losing when they expect it. sure in the moment, you're fighting, you might as well try to actually win, but beyond that, thats rarely their main point. when you look at amateur videos of other events it becomes more clear

this depends on a few things, but ultimately is irrelevant when you're dealing with two seperate power sources. electric motor means you have 1 battery, ICE means you now have gas.
also battery life isnt an issue, robots almost never run out of juice in fights.

spare parts for a electric motor are far more easier to come by than an engine for a concrete cutter. they just have multiple engines to swap around because fuck trying to repair an ICE mid event

they dont have an advantage in this case. theyre bulkier, heavier, less powerful, and more annoying to work with. the ICEwave team just uses them because its fun, it gives their bot something unique and cool, and just the intimidation factor.

smaller weight classes however, like beetleweights and hobbyweights, theyre fucking everywhere

In one of the newer seasons they coated the steel floor with rubber or something and as a result magnets don't work as well.
