The thing is people had pretty much left racism behind by the begining of the 21th century, you had a lof of black athletes, actors, America even voted a black president.
But then they started bashing white people for pretty much no reason, and seeing racism everywhere, even where there really wasn't. Of course every action has an opposite reaction and society started getting polarized. Now it's impossible to see a minority in a film without an agend behind it, and for a good reason.
