At least Skull Island had Jackson, Goodman, Hiddleston, Reilly, and even Kebbell. They were able to make their meh characters enjoyable to watch based on natural charisma/likability alone. I also gather the fights keep doing this shit where they show it from the human perspective to hammer in the 'look at how godly and terrifying they are to tiny humans!' thing, which was ground covered by Cloverfield years prior and almost always results in inferior as fuck action scenes.

People are really overreacting about the human side of the movie huh. I think MBB was laying it on a little thick a couple times but other than that everything was fine. Not great, but it did exactly what it needed to do in a short amount of time and wasn't overly complex, which allowed the monsters to get substantially more screentime than in G14. Every Godzilla movie needs a human element to provide a framework for the fighting and destruction, I don't know what it is that people who don't like KOTM are looking for in the story/plot of a Godzilla movie.

Really I didn't notice too much of a difference between the left(?) and middle heads, if anything they had the same personally imo aside from the middle being the alpha. The middle one constantly harasses the autistic one when there's no other titans or threats (bombs and shit) in the immediate area.

Really wanted to see Godzilla vs Rodan, specifically wanted to see Rodan pecking Godzilla's head and Godzilla throwing rocks and buildings at Rodan. Also would have been cool to see Ghidorah get destroyed by Godzilla/Rodan/Mothra working as one but I liked what I got regardless.

Final fight should've been longer, it shouldn't have ended as soon as Godzilla goes thermonuclear, the final "phase" should've been the dominant Ghidorah head alone and fighting like a rabid dog in a corner on the ground now that his wings are charred, also it felt really awkward with how they tried so hard to make godzilla seem "kewl" after he got slapped around for the entire movie

He went blow for blow with Ghidorah in Antarctica before Ghidorah fled, and then he probably would have killed Ghidorah in Mexico until the milfags intervened and almost killed him with the oxygen destroyer. Then he had Ghidorah on the ropes in Boston after he got powered-up from the nuke. Ghidorah only made a comeback after also getting a power-up from biting into the electrical power plant. Then Godzilla got a second wind from Mothra sacrificing herself, and completely dominated Ghidorah once he went into burning mode.

King Kong isn't really a cultural icon anymore, but I think it'll be a good movie as long as Deathflix guy doesn't fuck it up. If it's at least as good as KOTM, I'll be satisfied. Godzilla should win, though. I don't think he should kill Kong, but Godzilla should win, and they should become allies.

It's pretty weird how another MUTO pops up and Godzilla isn't worried in the slightest, it doesn't cross his mind to think "oh shit it's one of the things that almost killed me"

As a godzilla fan, it’s one of the better movies; but I took my girlfriend and although she had fun she said they throw too much into the movie expecting it to be coherent (like the oxygen destroyer) . As a blockbuster it’s a solid 5 or 6 out of 10

I don't think the oxygen destroyer really needed that much setup for the movie to work. A normie who had never seen Godzilla 1954 would just assume it's a super weapon that destroys oxygen in the water. After Ghidorah survives unscathed, they explain it's because Ghidorah must be an alien that doesn't have oxygen in its cells or breathe oxygen.

I think Emma assumed that the monsters would start doing what they do during the credits montage after they bow down to Godzilla. They just kind of coexist with humans and magically heal the environments that have been damaged by pollution, deforestation, etc.

I just saw it yesterday in IMAX and loved it. My gigantic theater had only 8 people total including me though which was nice for the viewing experience but it's too bad for the people that worked on it. I went in expecting the human scenes to be dogshit based on the posters here but I actually liked them more than the 2014 ones. Monster fights were amazing. It was just a good watching experience.

Wish it was better. It is not impossible for a kaiju movie to also have a compelling story, it's happened before. This shouldn't be some lofty unattainable bar, having a good story isn't some fucking above average milestone, it's just a core part of being a fucking movie.
Monster action wasn't even that good. Not framed or paced well, the effects looked downright terrible by the end of the big climactic fight, and I never felt like the monsters held any weight or impact in their movements. Ghidorah drops big G from the fucking stratosphere and you're telling me all it does is make a little poof on the ground? Shit felt unsatisfying as fuck.
At least when Pacific Rim did that shit they had the excuse of the jaeger stalling its fall.

My biggest complaint about that movie is that it didn't establish that dinosaurs were still extant on Skull Island. I feel like that has always been a significant aspect of the King Kong story.

I think the old monsters just worked because Japanese people usually put certain design cues into their characters. Most of the good kaiju have always been "kawaii" in some respect. None of the new monsters would make good toys.

Argue about the other monsters all you want, but this is the best on-screen Ghidorah that has ever been. His heads have personalities without being too cheesy or over the top, the lightning effects are incredible looking, and he moves like an actual organism would with the proportions and body design of ghidorah. Making the wings able to fold was a good move.
Mothra may not look as 'cute' but it looks like a bug and has some heavenly visual qualities

I thought it was ok. The only thing that was kind of weird is that both parents worked for Monarch, and coincidentally lost their son due to Godzilla battling the MUTOs in the 2014 movie. If they were working for Monarch, why weren't they with Serizawa during that incident? The plot with the dad wanting to get revenge on Godzilla for killing a family member, but eventually forgiving him after he realizes Godzilla's importance would have been a better story for the 2014 movie than the one we got.

I haven't seen the 2014 movie in a long time, what's the consensus on that compared to this one? is it still worth watching?

I think Kong stands a decent chance against Godzilla in hand-to-hand combat, and there have always been opponents that have been able to shrug off Goji's atomic breath. I still think Godzilla will win, because King Kong won in the original movie. I also don't think Toho would allow Legendary to use their character, and have him be killed by Kong or even lose to him. Toho just invested something like $14 into a new studio in Los Angeles. They are trying to work with Legendary to bring back Godzilla into popularity again to sell things like toys, video games, and even possibly a Godzilla theme park in Japan. I don't think they would want Kong to defeat Godzilla, and possibly hurt G's popularity. Also, there's the whole issue with the copyrights surrounding the King Kong character. Basically, Legendary is not allowed to call their character "King Kong," because Universal owns the majority of the rights surrounding that character. However, other studios are allowed to call their characters "Kong," because they can make movies legally as film adaptations of the 1932 novelization of the original King Kong movie, which fell into the public domain.

Legendary seems hopeful so they're planning on doing it provided that Godzilla vs. Kong makes money. Two things in its favor: better time release and crossovers typically do well regardless of the franchise but the response to KotM might hurt it. I'd also advise to move the release date away from Mulan. If it does really well they might do another one right away, if not or if it does only ok then maybe they go on hiatus. It doesn't matter when they return no recurring actors are really necessary.

The 1933 film is a timeless classic.
