Conan was great in the 90’s-early 00’s because he was better than every other Late Night host until Craig Ferguson came along.
Then it became possible to stream anything on earth you wanted at 11:00 at night and so he’s not really useful anymore.

Early 90s Letterman (they were rerun on cable in the late 90s for some reason) and early 2000s Conan was the best late night TV I ever saw. I don't hate Leno, but you couldn't miss one show of Letterman/Conan at their peaks because there would be something that would be hysterical nearly every episode. I don't know about Bill Burr but Norm was also fantastic whenever he'd go on Letterman. His most kino moments were with Conan, though, like the moth joke and chairman of the board.

As funny as he is on his own, conan is not a great host in the format. Conan looked pretty pissed when gilbert gottfried gave him shit for just reading the cards and phoning it in. His writers were incredibly talented and there was an obvious dropoff in quality when the talent left

Currently he no longer looks like he is enjoying his own show, and probably agreed to do more of the remotes because he can go unscripted without a producer up his ass all the time.
I rarely watch anymore but from what I've seen it looks like the writing staff is young and pretentious, far from the ridiculous and self deprecating comedy the show used to do.
