Why did it flop?
Why did it flop?
takin the kids to it this weekend
then i plan to see it when it hits my drive-in
What agenda pushing caused the negative response to this objectively fun flick? I was looking for right wing content the entire time to make sense of this whole situation.
Best I can come up with is that the based boy critics hate anything related to Japan because they're a relatively redpilled race.
It didn't
Too kino for normies
Unironically? Too much stuff in May/June holy shit.
Godzilla had like 1 week before Dark Phoenix came in, it's impossibel for it to have legs or grow with word of mouth.
It’s hasn’t
no one will watch Dark Phoenix
Crowded summer schedule/brainlet critics with cultural bias giving bad reviews.
Godzilla is just an outdated metaphor with no cultural relevance anymore.
The cold war ended, no on is lying awake at night thinking about nuclear war so Godzilla has no relevance as a symbol for nuclear destruction.
Westerners are not into Kaiju shit any more, and there's far too much in kinos these days. Focus on East asia and you make a billion easily.
No celebrities to draw audiences in like Cranston hot off of BB. Nobody cares about Godzilla’s other monsters besides Godzilla nerds. (Who are not as culturally braindead and consumer focused as capeshit brainlets) Kids dont know who Godzilla is. The trailers were fucking horrible (seriously what the fuck was that song choice in the last trailer)
Here's a hoping it gets a week of attention and after it flops cinemas go back to putting more Godzilla showings.
If people continue to watch it, that is
It's still a fuckhuge cool dinosaur with atomic breath
It didnt already pass Alladin domestic?with Dark Phoenix being bad i guess It gonna Win the long run
fucking this
But simply nobody has the disney/marvel hypetrain at their service to shill it everywhere
Went to see it at my local theater, they put it in the smallest room (36 seats) and the audience was 7 people me included.
Nobody even knows about it, even less care about it.
I'm pretty sure that the marvel normies would love this movie as well, if they gave it a chance, but not being a marvel hero movie, is simply out of their radar.
>It didnt already pass Alladin domestic?
Not even close
Aladdin has 190 mil domestic
Goji has 51 mil
It's a shame because my theater was full of people clapping and cheering on Goji. I plan to see it a second time and the other couple people I know who saw it plan on seeing it again. I feel like Disney paid off critics since this cinematic universe was actually doing alright so far, and I don't usually subscribe to weird conspiracy shit like that. But the RT ratings discrepancies are just insane.
What? Alladin has been beating it already on the dailies.
Too similar to the Toho movies for a normie audience.
Jesus Mothra died for our sins
Repent now and stop polluting
Fans want extended, wide shots of giant monster fights. Not brief close-ups interrupted constantly by character reactions and chase scenes.
Also, fuck AoE for victory. They slap that into so many films lately. Black Panther and Wonder Woman both got an AoE that they used to win in the end. So fucking lame.
Also Rodan froze up when he got stabbed. Stopped right in mid attack like some cheap ass vampire movie or the Predator in Predator 2.
The film was disrespectful to G fans.
I don't watch Fatzilla movies
Being apolitical unironically
Soifags mad it wasnt "woke" enough
This.
Fights were impossible to see, human segments were shoved everywhere with no monster scene being longer than 10 seconds, the plot was worse than the holocaust and the characters and dialogue were so shit holy shit I cringed for whole minutes at a time. Nothing in the movie made any sense.
What's your problem with GMK?
I figured it was just critics not understanding the source material and wanting something completely different from what a Godzilla movie offers. Lots of complaints were about the Humans being poorly developed. Most people who watch Godzilla movies aren't watching for the Humans, but I guess the critics are.
Godzilla hasn't been a metaphor for nuclear destruction for decades. It's been about the schlocky monster fights since the 60s.
Environmentalists are the bad guys. Of course they are going to shit on it.
>Lots of complaints were about the Humans being poorly developed. Most people who watch Godzilla movies aren't watching for the Humans, but I guess the critics are.
That argument seems dishonest to me. If the human's don't matter then why give them the majority of the screen time? The film makers obviously think all that family drama matters.
The father wasn't black
Normies only want MCU quips
It didn't have Bryan Cranston snapping one liners with Ken Watanabe.
Dark Phoenix will flop way harder
>they hate it because muh nippon is redpilled
Christ you weebs are cringe
>complaints were about the Humans being poorly developed
The problem is that humans took up the whole fucking movie. At least the first movie had a few great fight scenes. This one had NONE. It was all about some absolutely retarded fucking human drama.
Imagine making a Godzilla movie with no fighting, presenting monsters in shaky cam.
And then focusing on the dullest cast of eco terrorists ever.
This movie did not deliever on anything.
What the hell is AoE? Age of Empires?
Area of effect explosions. Instead of fighting we got blueballed by a few boom-boom auras.
Nippon IS redpilled.
Not Disney capeshit
Literally the only reason, including the critical dogpile
Awesome. Have a great time!
Godzilla and Mothra vs Ghidorah was pretty neat
Not really it’s a pol meme. They just have stricter immigration quotas. The only ones they actually hate are Chinese and Koreans who pol weebs also shill
Nobody cares about Godzilla user. These mobies never flop. You're just seeing peak audience.
>That argument seems dishonest to me. If the human's don't matter then why give them the majority of the screen time? The film makers obviously think all that family drama matters.
It's probably because of the budget for CGI, not the love of the human characters
Uh, none. He isn't fat that's just a grandpa body
Literally critically assassinated.
Best reason
>The cold war ended, no on is lying awake at night thinking about nuclear war so Godzilla has no relevance as a symbol for nuclear destruction.
that's why they changed Big G from nuclear allegory to ruler of natural order
Meh. The only actually good "fight" was Mothra VS Rodan which took up around 30 seconds and was split into two by annoying humans. It's the only part of the movie that scratched the itch. Everything else was painfully dull.
>Le disney/mcu boogeyman
You're pathetic.
>from nuclear allegory to ruler of natural order
It just don't work. Comes from nowhere and lol humans are vermin. Cringe.
Mothra was my favorite in the movie, even if brief. She outshined the rest, literally too.
How? I don’t plan on seeing it
In two shots her body looked almost human even with not-boob bumps and hip curves. It was like they traced already existing Mothra porn. Amazing
Badass old geezer
Too redpilled for it's own good - Alex Jones said so
works just fine but agree to disagree user
Ask yourself why Alita, Shazam, Pokémon, Godzilla, and soon to be Dark Phoenix all bombed and captain marvel broke $1 billion
ALL audiences and critics want is MCU. They are uninterested in anything else
The Jew fears the Samurai.
Dubs of truth. Plus, the sequel came too late and Godzilla was out of the public consciousness.
The big reason for the MCU's success is that they shit out new content every year. I reckon a lot of people don't even know this Godzilla flick is connected to Kong 2017.
Her sharp appendages and arrow wings were really cool.
No. Mothra stabs Rodan and Rodan stops mid-peck. Fuck that shitty trope. Especially when applied to giant fucking monsters.
Rodan intro and jet fight was the one truly great fight.
Fuck them for denying me a good Godzilla vs Ghidora fight. FUCK THEM.
There's still a chance for it to have legs. X-Men Dark Phoenix looks like it's going to be a disaster, which means more potential eyes on Godzilla.
dumbass jew can't even speak japanese or spell english words correctly
Funny
Godzilla and friends are Earth's defenders, who awake their hibernation in times where the Earth's environment is in danger. They destroy human civilizations and whatever pollutants bring the Earth into crisis, and from the wreckage new life emerges.
They planned on releasing them so that they'd bring balance into the world at the cost of potentially billions of human lives. But they start with King Ghidorah, who's literally an alien tyrant that disrupts the natural order of Earth titans.
why is it like this?
>Fuck that shitty trope.
worked great for mothra and rodan though. dumbass rodan needs to learn how to fight; 0-2 so far
Pavlovian programming
My problem with it is the direction. Everyone's flying like a retard in all directions so there's no feel of weight. I blame the direction. There's a neat moment of Rodan almost falling into water before going back up, but the very next second is humans flying around in a not-marvel ten kilometers jet which moves freely like a fly when you're trying to kill it. I just couldn't appreciate a few good scenes like those because the direction is all over the place.
Appreciated bro
Delusional weeb
Imperial japan protected Jews from Germany in WW2 btw
Rodan's stats are way better than Mothra's. Like it's understandable why he got fucked up by Ghidorah, but he jobbed for the Queen of Jobbers (although I love Mothra, she cannot fight for shit and always gets killed).
Rodan coming out of that volcano was visual kino. He looked heavy with the potential of flattening a city into a pancake crater.
Can't wait for Reiwa Goji!
Mothra did not expect another flyer in the arena. If Mothra kept cocooning Ghidorah, Godzilla would have probably incinerated more of a chunk off the dragon.
mothra is immortal though so she can be as shitty a fighter she wants (even though she holds the 2nd best win record after big G).
Mothra also didn't use her antenna beams or her reflectors on her wings, and still stabbed rodan like the jobber he is
So why is the Jew afraid?
Because everyone is still heartbroken after watching "When they see us"
Did it though?
Reading the critic reviews and watching the movie will make you think they have no earthly idea HOW to watch a movie.
Critics now a days go into movies with expectations of what the want to see instead of watching what's in front of them and judging from a non bias POV.
The reviews for Godzilla really gave me the impression (after watching it) that they had no real clue what Godzilla is or what it offers.
It's one of the best popcorn flick, summer blockbusters to come out in a long time.. I enjoyed it alot more than Endgame.
Godzilla KOTM is what summer cinema is all about.. Is a shame critics have their heads so far up their ass.
Pretty anecdotal of course, but personally I only watch Disney blockbusters in the theaters and usually they succeed way more than the rest. I assume a lot of people do the same
>Fans want extended, wide shots of giant monster fights. Not brief close-ups interrupted constantly by character reactions and chase scenes.
so much this. i can't stand the quick cuts interrupting
Why did I flop my monster 6 incher on ya mums face ya cretin?
To continue this.. You got critics out here saying they enjoyed Dark Phoenix while saying that Godzilla is bad..
That should tell you alot
Based Mike stoklasa called it a flop right when the first trailer came out
It flopped because it was a terrible movie that got cucked by chad marvel
just saw Shin Godzilla yesterday,
why did this felt more like a live action NGE movie than a Godzilla one, is Anno really a hack?
> watching reddit media
Because you touch yourself at night.
we truly have reached peak pleb.
who fucking cares
I liked it and that's all that matters
fuck all those numbers
Americans hate dinosaurs they literally refuse to teach them in class in some states.
Too bad no one else did, otherwise it would be making good numbers you faggot
>Godzilla has no relevance as a symbol for nuclear destruction
What fucking faux-intellectual homo actually believed that this was a thing?
why did the 2014 movie had better numbers?
was it because it was the first american made Godzilla since the 1999 one?
lmao how did they not know Ghidorah was a giant cunt? Dumb eco-phaggots
he was recently discovered in the movie universe
>no on is lying awake at night thinking about nuclear war
um thats what the left told us to do like a year ago
Him being the only Titan named Monster should have been a big clue, along with all the ancient relics generally showing him being a pure cunt.
Also, it's a three headed dragon.
It's an incredibly poorly written movie. Most of the human characters and dialogue is legitimately bad. And, even if the fights were something to write home about, there's enough of the bad human element to weigh it down. You're expected to care about characters who aren't actually characters. Serizawa did not earn that moment and Graham's exit was a bad afterthought.
Because Godzilla (2014) was not good.
Hurt the attendance for KOTM, despite it being kino.
He was given a generic moniker because they didn't knew his legendary name yet. As for the second part I assume the chinese fairy didn't had all that info, or pieced it together because yes that's a pretty big oversight, everyone recognized it right away during the exposition that Ghidorah might not be nice.
That's on Farmiga's character though, the GoT guy clearly didn't give a fuck.
The real zilla fans in the crowd are watching the human scenes with a big smile on their faces fully aware that the characters don't matter and are just part and parcel with a kaiju kino. It's called a /PLEBFILTER/.
And that is why your movies will continue to disappoint and flop.
Breaking Bad hype
I wanted to see how fat Godzilla was.
Only the plebes are disappointed. These are more like niche audience art pictures than wide appeal blockbusters, even if the studios try to market them as such.
>fat
It had great trailers, audiences were curious about a modern Hollywood Godzilla movie, and Cranston was riding on Breaking Bad hype. But 2014 did more harm than good and the long delay between movies made the situation worse.
Because people want to see giant monsters fight but the movies don't show them. And there is no good story of character to supplement it.
Stop blaming this shit on critics or politics.
>critics only dislike throwaway blockbusters if they aren't sufficiently woke
imagine breaking your brain to the extent that all poorly-received trash media appears immediately as some kind of S O R O S conspiracy
The trailers for 2014 made it seem like they finally figured out how to write the human aspect of Godzilla movies in a serious manner that wasn't boring or retarded. The problem was that by the time people realized that Bryan Cranston's character dies way too early in the movie so as to make the rest of the movie boring AND retarded, those people had already paid for their tickets.
That's unhealthy fanboyism and sociopathy what you just described. And you just have people a better reason not to see it. If there are only a few good parts while the rest is awful, then it's better to just watch the monster fights on youtube in few months.
as long as nuclear weapons exist, nuclear war is an existential threat to the species. just because you have the historical memory of a fruitfly doesn't mean the central metaphor behind godzilla is somehow no longer relevant
Did anyone else notice that the end credit montage showed the villains where completely right in their goals (if perhaps not methods)?
Am I the the one that thinks Sally Hawkins is cute?
because it fucking blows
no,
she looks like a young Lily Tomlin.
You are not alone. If you want to know more about her go check out that Abe Sapein prequel from a couple of years ago.
It didn't have cringe American politics in it.
Want the truth. Here it is, people (audience) went to see cause it made people curious to see how a modern Godzilla plays out (american made) and it had two ways of playing out a subpar complex story with enjoyable human characters and action or a traditional Godzilla movie with character no one cares for. The action part being good or bad being a small part of the end result. So when it came out and the answer was another Godzilla movie with bad/sub par characters the sequel was doa with the budget being so god damn high. It sucks but big monsters are not big budget fare cause nobody is going to watch a big monsters movie for an hour and half or more. Godzilla need to understand that the movie needs enjoyable humans for the film to justify the big money being spent. Just look at RDJ, the fucking dood charmed his ass off and helped comic book movie reach the heights it is at cause of his portrayal of Iron Man.
Definitely not
>pro-environment movie has heroes casually using nukes and other super weapons with no major repercussions
GMK Godzilla is possessed by the souls of dead Americans, that's why he's fat.
there was one nuke that destroyed Atlantis, one Oxygen Destroyer which probably will lead to Destroya coming in a later movie if Godzilla vs Kong works out, so what are you talking about?
WB doesn't want to make movies anymore
That's why they're skipping Hall H
Because a lot of people base whether they're gonna Watch a movie or not on RT. If you get critics like this reviewing your film, it's got not chance.
Releasing it so close to Avengers and Detective Pikachu was stupid. Godzilla is a popular franchise, but nowhere near as big as those behemoths. Normal people will be tired of going to the cinema.
Anno is an Ultraman fan first and foremost. That's what drives him.
Godzilla is only loved by association with Ultraman. youtube.com
>"Trailers were fucking horrible"
>Implying the very first trailer wasn't the most kino trailer in the past decade.
it didn't flop tho
Still sad
It was a piece of shit, user.
Just because it has Godzilla doesn't make it good. It had meh kaiju fights and a fucking agonizingly slow human plot that didn't have enough monsters in between it.
Not to mention every third line being about a kid we never meet or give a shit about
Everybody's saying this but it's not true at all. The human characters were fine. Their storyline is waaaay more interesting than 2014 Godzilla, which for some reason people are looking at through rose colored lens. After Cranston died we were left with Generic stoic soldier #764 and his worried wife. How is that better at all?
do americans unironically read critics reviews on movies? in my country people laugh at your face if you mention critics
I want to fuck Vera!
It's just a bad movie.
It was raw KINO
>the real zilla fans are watching the human scenes with a big smile on their faces
I've been watching Godzilla since before you were born, you stupid nigger. Let me tell you that I was fucking cringing every single time they brought up that stupid fucking son, or when the wife was rambling about muh pollution
>reddit spacing
yikes
WB makes like 30 movies a year, most of which not suitable for Hall H
monster movies are a niche genre.
Pacific Rim barely made it's budget back and the 2nd one flopped hard.
Godzilla 2014 was an anomaly, I guess it made $$$ because it had Bryan Cranston in it.
The best things about this entire product are the posters and further promotional artwork based on the new kaiju designs.
The cringe is part of the fun. Like the plot in a porn movie. It would only be an issue if the movie didn't deliver on the right leaning kaiju kino.
>What fucking faux-intellectual homo actually believed that this was a thing?
Literally anyone who watched Godzilla 1954.
Wow. The nuke wiped out some old ruins. How thoughtful. Like the nuke used in 2014, I don't expect anything to come out of the nuke in KOTM or the Oxygen Destroyer. And Destoroyah means nothing to people who aren't already Godzilla fans, which means it fails as an independent movie.
Burgers have abyssimal taste
This, the first trailer of each of the MonsterVerse movies are some of the best ones made in this decade.
youtube.com
Anybody who watches that grandpa shit deserves to die unironically.
cringe and redditpilled
>the 2nd one flopped hard
That was because it took 2 years too long for it to come out, it switched out the attractive asian lead for an ugly black guy, and they took out everything that made the first one good.
so does the end credits imply that Kong and Godzilla are vying for control over the right to become King of the Titans....because GOT with monsters sounds fantastic
Because he actually did things like
>almost disarming a nuke
>HALO jumping
>Nearly getting killed
>blowing up a bunch of giant monster eggs
>being on a train that gets derailed by a giant monster and saving a kid
What the fuck do the characters in King of the Flops do?
>Don't fire their weapons at Godzilla
>Lure one monster towards another
>Set off a nuke in Atlantis
You're a fucking retard and I don't think you've ever seen a Godzilla movie
It's reddit to pretend that old movies have value. New movies are shit enough, nevermind outdated boomer shit.
How is this wrong?
>he doesn't know
THIS
>It's reddit to pretend that old movies have value
it's quintessencially reddit to be a complete zoomer retard and disregard old time art
It's passable.
Based soldiers evacuating population, saving mom and kid, helping injured soldiers, and knocking sense into dumbfuck parents
It's not fun when my monster fight is interrupted by some sweaty retard being knocked around inside their indestructible helicopter plane for the eighth time.
It's not fun when the screen is full of dumb humans making dumb faces and screaming "THIS WONT BRING HIM BACK" in between storming out of meetings because they didn't immediately bring up the plan of action to extract your stupid fucking wife while they were talking about how they couldn't find the terrorists.
It's not fun when the shitty human dialogue drags on and on and on and on with no monsters and no character growth. A character makes a joke and the dad just says "THAT WAS MY SONS FAVORITE JOKE AAAAAAAA" The parents had zero fucking character beyond the DEAD CHILD
Did your mother slam a couple of liters of tequila when you were in utero or do you just have shit taste?
>right leaning kaiju
That explains everything
That's exactly what is implied. Kong leading a jungle kaiju army to protect his island sounds better than previous Apes movie stories
Yep. I heard this movie had "too many monster fight scenes" and of course bad character arcs. I went in to see some good fights, and all I got was 50% shitty character moments, 25% shots with people looking at monsters from windows and 25% actual monster shots that was fucking covered with something like dust, rain etc. It was shit
It isn't, but I still liked it.
Notice how each of those things you mentioned were little more than incidental parts of the actual scenes while the ones I mentioned were actually giant fucking setpieces that moved the plot forward?
Besides one wayward comment leading the parents to the shitty kid, what the fuck do the based soldiermen do to propel the plot forward?
>the human characters were fine
James Rolfe, get off the internet.
I was just recalling brief hero moments in this drag of a movie.
Hey, hey, hey, user
Turn off your computer. Go outside.
Find a bridge. Jump off it.
You lost. You're a fucking retard and you know it, so stop wasting your time and electricity posting stupid comments because you got BTFO and have nothing clever to say besides references to e-celebs who haven't been relevant since ever.
And Germany sheltered Chinese from IJA butchery
cry moar.
I think it is the best modern godzilla adaptation. I like Anno's style in this movie. Cant wait for the sequel
There isn't going to be a sequel. Toho will start making Jap godzilla films again in 2021 but Shin was a one-and-done.
Holy shit, how much more pathetic can the fanbase of this film get?
There's a clear difference between the cheesiness but engaging plot of Astro Monster and the total shitfest that was KotM.
Fuck, even if you compare the action, Astro Monster still has a more focused and objectively better fight.
youtube.com
capeshit killed cinema.
Because this movie neither delivers a good story nor good action scenes
Not the guy you're talking to, but fucking relax bro it's a movie about a giant lizard
>go to see a movie about giant monsters throwing down
>movie mostly consists of a group of human assholes in a command center jabbering
>shoehorn in some family drama
This thing was designed to fail.
what are you talking about? Shin Godzilla ended with a cliffhanger
I like the 60's movies best. Toho made each one different and be fun. This new reboot sequel with dull acting could have made for a great theme park ride instead of a "movie" Most of the stuff I see people praise are the references so that's precisely where a theme park ride based on a property excels at.
Shin wasn't designed to be a franchise, it was designed to be a metaphor for more recent Japanese disasters ala '54. The new series in 21 is supposed to be made with a series of movies in mind
Fuck you man, movies about giant lizards used to be actually decent.
They had a fraction of the budget and made better movies with immensely primitive special effects. Stop accepting mediocrity
>all this coping
Venom has around 30% and it got close to the 900 million mark.
>implying this doesn't happen in nearly every damn godzilla film
saw it yesterday it was actually really good, a couple minor problems but overall extremely enjoyable
thanks for the no (you)s I'll leave the thread now
>the total shitfest that was KotM
Could you explain why you feel this way?
Confirmed for having never seen true Zillakino
Go back to your video games, zoomer
>You got critics out here saying they enjoyed Dark Phoenix
a select few tweets dont represent the critics.
Dark Phoenix is literally the lowest rating blockbuster so far this year.
Yikes, even capeshitfags will at least complain about the cringey and boring parts of their films like BvS, Fan4stic, Apocalypse and Age of Ultron.
It was great the only think was the end scene with the monsters bowing and him roaring. It was a awful, awful way to end it.
He hasn’t been a nuclear allegory in the majority of his movies and they’ve always been about a hamfisted environmentalist message
It was the best scene by far because it actually showed some city destruction.
Sucks they had to use cgi mexicans but at least we could see it happening.
Sucks it failed to deliver in so many ways.
How are the figures?
The fact of the matter is 2014 damaged the brand longterm domestically, it did good because people went in excited but a large majority left feeling extremely disappointed. The dropoff is definitely largely due to people who thought 2014 was boring not giving this one a chance.
I remember scrambling for examples when a sequel was good and the first entry was dull refuse once I anticipated KOTM.
He cant cry anymore user. He is already dead
The sad thing is, it's a problem that really can't be fixed no matter what they do. They tried to rectify the complaints that 2014 garnered and it just resulted in critics slamming it more saying they wanted the opposite this time, leading to bad word of mouth on top of an already disappointed audience. The only hope we can have for the next one doing slightly better is the west caring more about Kong and bringing in those who didn't see KotM, but even if it does well I don't see any possible way the Monsterverse will continue.
Godzilla lost a lot of relevance over time
I'm convinced that you can't please everyone, make it too goofy and part of the auidence will complain, make it too serious and it will bore some people too.
This one had to compete with Endgame and Alladin, and I know Endgame came out a while ago but some people only see like three movies a year
I'm really just excited to see Kong and Godzilla together in one movie for what may be the last time.
At least we have that. It's way too late in the game for them to scrap Vs Kong, so we can at least be grateful we can let the Monsterverse end on a high note. I can't even imagine the cinematic what-if blueballs that would last til the end of time if that movie got scrapped.
We just have to hope they don't do some sort of Justice League post-production screwing around with the movie to try to save it after this one bombed. I think we're safe from that, though, mainly since no one really seems to have an exact reason why this thing is so disappointing. 2014 at least seemed to have the same complaints coming in from everyone
Movie was a love letter to the franchise, faggot.
Anyone who'd agree with you has a stick up their ass as far as yours.
Least the director understood and loves the source material. Movie had a lot of soul and it shows.
Honest to god, the reviews it's getting from the Critics is just sickening. This is legit a fantastic film and it doesn't deserve the BS scores that I'm seeing
Should have Rodan carrying Goji.
Godzilla movies are always so bad, even Shin Godzilla is mediocre, but people defend it with "it's the best godzilla!". People have been burnt one too many times.
>fuck AoE for victory
Fucking this
True, thank goodness the next one has finished filming. At this point, I can't even imagine what Warner Bros. and Legendary are going to change for Kong vs Godzilla based on this latest movie's financial performance. I'd only be sure that kaiju will be even more of a focus because Max Borenstein has been great at keeping actors dull with plain family issues.
Smart nigga, here's a (you)
Yeah they shifted the reason for its existence and retconned its conception.
It felt like they wanted to go on a 30 minute global warming rant but never did
That's actually the one part that worries me, even KotM you could constantly feel them pulling the strings on budget to avoid complex shots by cutting to the people during scenes that would be hard to animate like Godzilla climbing up out of the ice, and such. vs kong probably has lots of vfx work to be done still, I could really see them slash the budget on those fights and give us even less monsters than they initially planned for it
But the ending reveals they were right the whole time
>HALO jumping
You sure that wasn't from a Bayformers movie?
Quick question, how long do IMAX theaters usually show movies? All the ones here stop tomorrow. Less than a week is kinda shitty
>Fans want extended, wide shots of giant monster fights
Even the makers of Rampage understood this and had them brawl in broad daylight.
too much of the "people look at big screen in awe, look at each other, look back at big screen, then look at another screen, then walk s-l-o-w-l-y towards one of the screens, then says something obvious, then looks at another screen"
its idiotic
I seriously hope Hollywood understands that confident monster fights are what they should focus on the most to reclaim audience trust. Two iconic monsters fighting throughout a movie should be an easy feat to market. Going cheaper at this point with creature effects is guaranteed franchise suicide.
If we aren't watching for the humans, than why the fuck was 90% of the movie just that?
That is disappointing. If it helps, I didn't see much difference between IMAX and regular screenings besides shaking seats.
not enough cute milley
Someone mentioned it in another thread, but far too much of the movie (almost all of it) takes place in very dimly lit rooms with very bright blue screens. It's exhausting, and really detracts from the monster scenes by the time you get to them.
>Godzilla and friends are Earth's defenders
Why they fight each other in 2014
I thought IMAX sound added a lot to the movie
Sup critic
MUTOs are parasites that kill other giant monsters to incubate their eggs.
Because Americans are too stupid
>attractive Asian lead
What the fuck are you talking about? The main in the first one was an extremely dull and soulless white dude
Probably because it's another generic movie, maybe people are sick of unoriginal remakes? Faith in humanity partially restored.
Mako was the main character in PR
Why has politics made everyone literally retarded? It’s just not a great movie it’s just okay.
Chris Stuckman would like a word.
Really? In his video he talks about it being boring and says the only good parts were how they acted.
The human parts were fucking terrible. If the movie had been like Pacific Rim and kept the human parts more barebones, then I'm sure critics would've liked it more.
No she was the cocksleeve for the white male
Source?
So when are we going to get mechs in a godzilla movie? It doesn't even have to be mechagodzilla. Small mechs that buzz around Godzilla like flies would be dope too.
> tfw no Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover
I planned on seeing the movie but was shocked by the poor reviews. Seems like it spends most of it's time on humans and does cheap cuts away from action scenes, & the humans had bad development
They teased that at the end with a newspaper clip telling how they are seeing that they're making some kind of large mechanized thing.
Well it only just came out, Alladins been out for 2 weeks and opened double what Godzilla made
Complete best case scenario for the final global tally would be
Domestic: $150+
Foreign: $400+
Total, more then the first Godzilla but less than Kong.
I'd be amazed if the movie pulled off numbers that high.
it was mediocre
A week or two usually. Try dolby if you can't find IMAX but I don't expect for any to exist past this week.
Makes sense. Kong had star power as it's greatest strength.
it was good, not excellent but good.
you are everything that's wrong with Yea Forums of the last 4 years
what is the scale in this scene supposed to be, because if it’s supposed to be yuge there is no fucking leaf in real life big enough to cover godzilla like that.
> falling for this weak bait.
It was bad.
It's like mayo slathered fries. Some loves that shit and some don't. I don't.
It's a love letter to a genre that while very cool, is kinda niche.
That said I'm seeing it a second time this weekend.
what do people want from a Godzilla movie, 2 hrs of monsters punching each other with nothing else?
Would that really be a bad thing?
An almost dialogue-free movie from Godzilla's point of view on this greater, larger ecosystem and how he perceives humans would be awesome.
I don't know what I want in a kaiju movie. I saw this one. Mothra was cool. Everything else was blue. I liked Nakajima memorial piece. I look forward to seeing Kong meet Godzilla for what could be the last time.
depends on who you ask.
>They tried to rectify the complaints that 2014 garnered
But both 2014 and KOTM are criticized for their boring unlikable human characters diverting too much attention away from the monsters.
>2 hrs of monsters punching each other with nothing else?
Yes
Since they've proven they can't write a story worth for shit, yes.
Still better than the anome
Maybe not 2 hours but yes. If they can't write a decent story then they should just show a 40 minute reel of monsters fighting with light context. Don't waste people's time with a plot if you're not going to put any effort in it.
I'd rather lick Godzilla's gigantic, scaly taint than have to endure those Netflix movies again.
Literally the only thing good that came of them were the cute Mothra twins.
Because it's shit. All of the thing that we hate about Michael Bey and Zack Snyder movies, but this time it gets a pass because neckbeards say 'lol u clearly don't understand the intricacies of the Kaiju genre senpai'.
If you think giant CGI monsters beating the shit out of each other for 2 hrs is a 'genre' than maybe you're a brainlet desu.
That's funny. Also, why didn't Universal Studios just use this movie's kaiju footage for a bullshit simulator ride? They'd probably have made more money.
Ghidorah as an interdimensional light monster was a near monster
Too bad it was executed like ass
Imagine if Ghidorah was actually choking the living shit out of Godzilla while scattering his particles across dimensions instead of hanging around him like luau garments.
>no one is lying awake at night thinking about nuclear war
wrong
everyone wanted to see it...but then James gave it a lukewarm review. Most people don't care about the critics when it comes to godzilla movie...they only care about James opinion. He said it wasn't bad, but you can tell he had mixed opinions about it. And nobody is going to see a movie based on the "lukewarm" reception. Godzilla 2 will flop. It all depends on Godzilla vs Kong.
Godzilla vs. Kong is the movie James really wants to see.
I hope they make a daytime fight scene in the next movie so he can finally stop complaining about nightime fights.
Going with dad tomorrow
Yeah this. finishing off Ghidorah with a magic forcefield? Fucking bullshit. Also fuck them for literally showing 5-second cocktease shots of 50 monsters and the entire us military fighting over a flooded Washington D.C. between bullshit family drama scenes.
Awesome. Enjoy it.
>That image
Heart of the movie. They cut it way too short.
Both avgn and James are right in their critique of the movie. The kino moments are 10/10 but they're ruined by the fucking cutting to humans. Mothra was too bright
Many things including sjws snd disney
I don't care about king kong so I didn't bother seeing skull island
should I actually watch it?
Because American can't into Godzilla.
legit no one gives a fuck about Dark Phoenix
even 3 of my faggot reddit friends didn't even know it was coming out
oh shit nigger what are you doing
It focuses TOO much on humans?
Why do they spend 10 minutes looking for the daughter when GODZILLA AND GHIDORAH ARE FIGHTING IN THE BACKGROUND
/checked and thread
Alita still best movie of the year and its not even close just kidding deadwood the movie is tied with alita
Speak for yourself retard, I loved it as well
It was a worse movie than the previous one, which itself wasn't very good.
>worse than the movie titled Godzilla where Godzilla was a side character
no
It's a bad movie.
Every comic relief character isn't funny. Every serious character is played by a horrible actor. The writing is a joke. Not a single good line in the whole thing. The story is a bad combination of nonsensical and entirely unnecessary. The fight scenes are a letdown and rarely show the monsters actually hitting each other or really anything at all. Every monster other than Godzilla looks like a cartoon character. What the fuck was with the big mammoth thing? How the fuck did that retarded design get past literally anyone? Completely uninspired direction.
They knew all they had to do was make a couple of good looking shots and fucking sperglords would fall over each other screaming "kino", but it's basically just Independence Day. It's a big stupid movie made for people who still think Michael Bay is pretty neat.
>implying a w*man wouldnt be this stupid
It won't be the last time. If any franchise can continue despite middling box office numbers and critically disapproval, it's Godzilla. Have faith in the king!
Godzilla isn't big with mainstream audience, 2014 killed a lot of their interest, critics won't praise it since no politics nonsense.
He looks like Barney so fucking disgusting
>Godzilla had like 1 week before Dark Phoenix came in, it's impossibel for it to have legs or grow with word of mouth.
Nobody gives a fuck about Dark Phoenix. It's The Secret life of Pets 2 that's going to fuck Godzilla in the ass
Who says?
"Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the highly anticipated third installment of Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse franchise featuring the fierce kaiju battle among Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah, released in 362 theaters (431 screens) across Japan on March 31, dominating its first weekend with 677 million yen on 479,000 admissions. The two-day opening gross was 133.1% of the franchise's first installment Godzilla in 2014 and 108.3% of the last Japanese Godzilla film Shin Godzilla in 2016."
Man Shinfags are going to be SEETHING
>Normies only want MCU quips
Then they would love this film
Not really. The quipping characters are treated as annoying by the other characters
Lol if you'd seen it you'd know the OG Godzilla movie is pure fucking kino.
>he doesn't have nightmares about nukes hitting his hometown and getting burnt to death in the basement because your doors suck as
Rampage and Uprising delivered on spectacle.
You prefer Fitzilla?
Pacific rim wasn't even a big hit. So how would have that change anything
Absolutely no one asked for DP. Apocalypse was already bad enough and from the look of it, they tried to make things worse.
Like how long skull island was a big hit oh it wasn't t it was a moderate money maker.
Nice bait.
>Reading the critic reviews and watching the movie will make you think they have no earthly idea HOW to watch a movie
This happened with the rise of the MCU.
I liked it, the monster parts were fucking cool albeit no shin godzilla. Seeing them fight was awesome and that's all I really wanted.
>why did bad movie flop?
A better question is why did you start a thread under a false pretense?
>why did the 2014 movie had better numbers?
Because it didn't have its own 2014 prequel to ruin its mojo.
movie disappoints -> sequel makes less money
Something like the Gamora trilogy films.
is it better than the 2014 one?
I only want replies from actual godzilla fags
>big monsters are not big budget fare cause nobody is going to watch a big monsters movie for an hour and half or more
You really think they'd have figured that out after Pacific Rim.
On the whole, yes I believe so
Kind of
It's hard to quantify. It depends on what the movie is trying to be. 2014 is better at being serious and more grounded, KOTM is far better at action and if you ask me, lore and worldbuilding for the various Kaiju, their origins and personality.
I feel like all these people complaining have never watched a godzilla film. I have been rewatching a lot of the older films and while still enjoyable they barely compare to the latest. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991) is retarded and features barely any action, godzilla vs King Kong is goofy as fuck and features almost no action until the last 10 mins.. none of the movies have more than like 10 minutes of monster screen time and there's still constant cut aways to humans and shit. I feel like all the retards complaining about the 2014 movie and KOTM having too little action, too many scenes cutting away to humans, or a stupid plot are just from some alternate universe where godzilla wasn't from the cheesiest franchise known to man.
Anyone have faith in Adam Wingard for GodVsKong? He made some pretty good films and a hilariously bad one with Death Note, at least that was entertaining in a so bad that it's good. The writer for that GodVsKong did the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
>at least that was entertaining in a so bad that it's good
Really? I don't find it entertaining at all.
As for GvK, eh, I don't have much hope for it. At best, it'll probably turned out just like Skull Island
Godzilla is love and a friend to all children.
Because Dwayne the Rock Johnson wasn't in it.
I think so. He seems like a genuine Godzilla fan. He even posted about the NES Creepypasta on his twitter.
Detective Pikachu isn't doing so hot.
Normies will because of muh Sansa
China is a big movie industry so it's likely that western critics are being paid off by China now.
