Pretty sure it was Robb's fault for leaving autistically ambiguous orders.

>holds the castle while also capturing a windmill and important crossing point
>WTF EDMURE WHY DIDN'T YOU HOLD THE CASTLE!
BUT I WUN KILL DA MOUNTAIN
Robb was retarded, the Mountain is one man, stopping several dozen men from crossing the river holds more strategic value
Yep. Literally only Blackfish was a good person.
Robb wasn't mad that he held the castle, he was mad that Tywin wasn't baited into going west.
Fuck off, smelly fish.

>simply says "hold riverrun"
>alright, I'll hold riverrun and also protect the surrounding lands utilising our terrain advantage to repel the invaders, as it makes no sense to just sit around in a castle and let our enemy do as he pleases on our land
if you read between the lines the whole "I wanted to bait tywin west the whole time" thing seems like something robb/blackfish made up after the fact to guild radmure into marrying some ugly frey cunt
even if it was the plan all along it could not have possibly had anything to do with allowing stannis to take KL as none of them could see into the future
Did they fuck? If they’re rearranging seats for each other they probably fucked right

there it is you're a toplad
If you're in the army, deployed in a war zone and your senior officer tells you hold this position... instead you capture muh windmill, get 100s of your own men killed and change the advance and deployment of the enemy... do you think you would just get shouted at? And then forced into marrying a qt frey tranny-hermafrodite?
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU MAN
>if you read between the lines the whole "I wanted to bait tywin west the whole time" thing seems like something robb/blackfish made up after the fact to guild radmure into marrying some ugly frey cunt
This guy gets it. All of them fucked up one way or another but they needed to come up with an excuse to compel Edmure to agree to the marriage.
Alt Shift X right now
kek provides
He was commanding several thousand soldiers, you don't simply sit in a castle with that number. He did hold his position, using the river to his advantage. The message of the order is completely distorted if the intention was to "let the enemy pass" because nothing about "hold this position" means don't engage when they have to pass essentially right through that position.
>Dead Jorah
But why?
Watching GoT actors fuck around (especially in costume) is more enjoyable than watching the Series
If your commander tells you to hold a position (a castle) and you instead compromise that position (by attacking a nearby windmill) and don't actually bring him the Mountains head.............
I don't get why people say Robb not marrying the Frey girl doomed him.
Surely the war was lost when the Lannisters allied with the Tyrells? iirc from the books the Tyrells have like 100,000 soldiers - as opposed to Robb's 20k. The support of the Frey's wouldn't matter. Plus Roose betrayed him because he thought the war was unwinnable, not because of the Frey marriage.
If your orders are to hold a castle that doesn’t normally mean get yourself besieged inside the little castle and let everywhere around you fill up with enemies. Repelling enemies from the surrounding area so you don’t have to make it a “who runs out of food first” game is a reasonable course of action. Robb had every chance to give instructions to bait Tywin yet he only brought it up after the fact.
Cast them
Got any good videos?
>Surely the war was lost when the Lannisters allied with the Tyrells?
The war was lost the second he declared himself King of the North instead of Warden of the North under the one true king of the Seven Kingdoms, Stannis Baratheon.
He didn’t compromise that position though. The castle was held just fine, he had the spare resources to defend more aggressively and stuff like taking the mill back would increase the amount of time he could hold the castle.
Theres the video of Sandor and Tormunds actors fucking about with a Ukelele, and another of Jorah's actor doing a Sing Along with a Guitar
your retarded. you would probably put your army outside the castle and in front of the trenches.
I think you're mixing book & show here because all he did was defend the fords in the book. In the show he does lose some men attacking the mountain or some shit but there's no mention of plans to lure Tywin west or anything and the whole matter is inexplicably blown out of proportion.
well he obviously doesn't have the resources, because in the same scene King Robbo Big Nobbo is most displeased when he hears how many men he has lost. Idiot.
Makes me happy that the BWB guys like Tom Waits
>iirc from the books the Tyrells have like 100,000 soldiers
That's the total of Renly's army (may be an exaggeration too I guess). I think about 1/4-1/3 of that were Stormlands troops. So he was still pretty badly outnumbered but nothing completely unwinnable given what smaller armies have been able to achieve historically under intelligent and creative leadership.
But the whole Frey, Karstark, etc. thing completely tore his faction apart from the inside. But maybe Roose was already gonna betray him regardless, so yeah.
>reading A Clash of Kings
>turn the page
>it's another Bran/Arya/Catelyn whining in Winterfell/Harrenhall/The Riverlands chapter
And you’d lose your entire fucking calvary because no fields to collect fodder, a huge chunk of your men because you can’t live on fish forever, and most of your smallfolk.
And after all that Robb will still come back and chastise you (“Why did you let the Lannisters restock their armies with the entire Riverlands harvest?”) because it doesn’t matter what you fucking did, all he needs is leverage to force a major lord to cover his mistake with the Freys.

No.
Can we all admit killing Stannis and cutting fAegon killed the show?
That would be a good ending for them all. Imagine the wacky adventures they would have in the Free Cities.
Arya sucks but people getting tortured at Harrenhal was kind of cool
I'm fairly certain castles have like... provisions... or did you expect the mountain to sit in the windmill for like 2 years? Perhaps he could even tap into the windpower, create little parachutes for his men and try to glide them over the castles walls?
Lots of things killed the fucking show, so probably that amounted it too.
but "can we all admit" will never happen, people will always agree to disagree outright disagree for the sake of arguement
The prophecy is most likely not accurate, so it might not be a single person, and even if it is they won't be just the Chosen One but something more complex.
Prophecy will bite your prick off every time.
There was never any saving the show
Dude you're retarded. Edmure wasn't entitled to the full plan, in fact it is retarded to give your lower commanders the full plan. What if by chance Edmure was captured? Or let it slip? What fucking army do you think gives the entire plan to every lower commander? Edmure should've followed his orders, it's as simple as that.
Will the prequels take place in the GOT universe or a new universe?
>killing the night king in one episode to subvert expectations
>then making a prequel about him
Why
The long night prequel idea is insane. If they really do go with this, it will get less than 1 million views. Screencap
it's the /got/ universe m8, that's been confirmed, unless it's outright said otherwise which is such a low possibility it's not worth considering
Bros
What if Maegor was Ronnel’s son
>it's the /got/ universe
So it's gonna suck.
A man without honor
>KANGSLEWER
>lower commander
He was commanding the biggest portion of Robb's army and was a direct relation. At the very least he could've told him "let the enemy through".
>what if he was captured
Then Robb would've lost the largest segment of his army and would've been doomed regardless.
>or let it slip
Can you not trust family? Just tell him it's an important secret. The far bigger risk would be giving ridiculously ambiguous orders and ruining your plan because they weren't followed in the most autistic literal sense, rather a general and sensible approach to following them which involved holding the land immediately surrounding the castle, i.e fulfilling the purpose of a castle.
I want to be Cersei's good boy...
Dany fits the best IMO. Was born on Dragonstone, reborn from the flames when the burning comet passed through the sky, and woke dragons from what she and everyone believed were dead stone eggs.
His "orders" were ridiculously vague. If Robb just told him to "hold Riverrun", it was perfectly reasonable to assume that he meant "hold Riverrun and the lands belonging to Riverrun". Robb should at least have said "don't get out of Riverrun", or "defend Riverrun but leave the fords".
>What fucking army do you think gives the entire plan to every lower commander?
Edmure was literally one of the three main commanders alongside Robb and Roose Bolton, and the ome thing he had to do was let Tywin pass. Robb should AT THE VERY LEAST have told him precisely what to do, even if he didn't want to tell him the whole plan (why? who could have captured him if he'd stayed inside the castle?)
Was this actually a scene?
Joffrey Was probably the best actor of the entire series in hindsight
I think you saw this scene and then became a veteran medieval commander, the font of knowledge with regards to siege warfare.
He looks like a really old goblin who suffered from silver poisoning.
>shaggydog
>He was commanding the biggest portion of Robb's army and was a direct relation. At the very least he could've told him "let the enemy through".
Still a lower commander and has a reputation for being a bit of a dolt.
>Then Robb would've lost the largest segment of his army and would've been doomed regardless.
I mean what if just Edmure was captured, not the entire castle.
>Can you not trust family?
Lmao dude
>The far bigger risk would be giving ridiculously ambiguous orders and ruining your plan because they weren't followed in the most autistic literal sense
That isn't what occurred, it's just what you're painting it as. Your pretending that your biased autistic image-board argument interpretation of events is the literal course of the story, it isn't. In the scene in the text everyone knew that Edmure fucked up, including Edmure himself.
This retard armchair lawyer argument you keep trying to make isn't doing you or Edmure any favors dude
Wait just a minute. I don't think windmills work like that...
Is silver an effective weapon to fight goblins? Like dragonglass to The Others? We need more info on this from Gurrm.
what do you mean?
pic
Maybe I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying he was going to use the windmill to generate wind power and use that to glide his troops over. Maybe you just meant the wind in general.
Fuck doing Edmure favors. Either Robb was an idiot, or he was lying, or GRRM fucked up that bit, because blaming Edmure for interpreting vague orders in one way over another made no sense.
Too kino for Dabid
i was actually utilising the power of sarcasm to blow his argument over. No windmills required.
>I thought you were saying he was going to use the windmill to generate wind power and use that to glide his troops over.
Well that's what those huge propellers on windmills are for, isn't it?
Tell me why I'm wrong. Giving orders to simply "hold riverrun" and expecting your commander to just sit there with his thousands of troops while the enemy passes through burning his lands, instead of deploying the troops along the adjacent river to defend said lands (and riverrun) is a ridiculous expectation.
>Still a lower commander
His most important commander.
>reputation for being a bit of a dolt
Dabid trash.
>I mean what if just Edmure was captured, not the entire castle.
I don't see how he could logistically be captured without his army also being destroyed.
>Lmao dude
Not an argument.
>That isn't what occurred, it's just what you're painting it as.
How are they not ambiguous orders given the circumstances? See my reply to the post above.
>In the scene in the text everyone knew that Edmure fucked up, including Edmure himself
He was relentlessly berated by his superiors, this is not a situation where you talk back.
Regardless of what he himself thinks, when you look at the bigger picture Robb was an idiot for being so vague about his intentions.
>Is silver an effective weapon to fight goblins?
Doubt. Silver poisoning is just known to cause a person's skin to become bluish gray is all.
Or your "vague orders" argument is bullshit. Edmure never claims that he was interpreting Robb's orders differently when confronted, he instead tries to say that he was doing understanable additional actions IN ADDITION to those orders. This displays that there was no confusion between them as to what the orders where like you're autistically trying to claim. Robb told Edmure to simply hold Riverrun, he is the one who independtly decided to marshall a force and defend the Red Fork from an attempted crossing as well. Despite your autistic quibbling, "defend this town" does not equate to "defend this town and all associated lands and rivers from any enemy movements", and Edmure's own attempt at an immediate defense to Robb when Robb questions him on it indicates that Edmure understood the order to mean what it meant.
See
problem solved
None of these problems would arise if Edmure had just given Riverrun to Stannis and Robb swore his loyalty to the One True King
You're wrong, because regardless of how its worded in the book, or in the TV script, the explicit implication is that he is supposed to garrison his troops in the castle and await further orders; Which he disobeys for obvious vainglorious reasons. This loses Rob men, men he could not afford to lose over such a small battle.
How did you do that then lad?
Then he should've said "sit your army in riverrun and don't do anything else". Nothing about the order forbids him from holding the river fords. In fact, seeing as the castle needs to be encircled from 3 different sides of the rivers holding the fords is an effective way of holding the castle.
>thinking this solves anything
Get ready for wars of succession out the yazoo for several generations.
Freys won't take being second place lying down.
I'll give a full response.
>His most important commander.
No matter how you shift the goalposts on this, nothing gets around the fact that Edmure is, at the end of the day, a lower commander than Robb.
>Dabid trash.
How much they exaggerate it is, Edmure isn't a complete moron. But in the books from Catelyn's POV she clearly thinks of him as a bit moronic, and its clear that the Blackfish and Robb also view him that way. Again, not as a completely flanderized idiot, but as having moronic tendencies.
>I don't see how he could logistically be captured without his army also being destroyed.
Edmure goes out with a force, perhaps to meet an army that is marching on Riverrun. Force gets destroyed, Edmure gets taken captive. Not exactly hard to imagine.
>Not an argument.
Neither was yours, so we're about even.
>How are they not ambiguous orders given the circumstances? See my reply to the post above.
I already explained how they aren't. Regardless, it is clear from the text that Edmure's battle at the Red Fork was not his interpretation of Robb's orders, but rather it was an additional movement he saw fit to undertake on his own. That alone destroys your argument without even having to quibble autistically about what the orders meant.
>He was relentlessly berated by his superiors, this is not a situation where you talk back.
And yet he did lol, have you even read the fucking book?
He should have not undertaken additonal actions that may have affected the grand scheme of the war without being ordered to. You don't mail your lower commanders a list of all the things they SHOULDN'T do, you give them their orders and they don't act outside of them. Jesus Christ.
>Hey let's get a team together to go execute Assad, I mean its not like they told us NOT to do it! What could possibly go wrong?
>Polygamy
Worse than incest
Jon should have married both of them
That would actually be fuckin hilarious
>Polygamy

Arya is almost never described in a sexual way in the books, but I could believe it about Sansa and Dany
>116185014
>the explicit implication is that he is supposed to garrison his troops in the castle and await further orders
The implication is only "explicit" in hindsight. When they're talking, Robb literally blames Edmure for not guessing his plan while he was in the west. If he expected him to guess, why not tell him in the first place?
A ridiculous amount. Her hips are probably sore from all the pegging desu
based
>When they're talking, Robb literally blames Edmure for not guessing his plan while he was in the west.
No, he literally doesn't lmao
Also that dude you're replying to (or attempting to reply to) isn't exactly right. Edmure wasn't supposed to just chill in the castle and await a possible siege, he was just supposed to hold Riverrun. That, taken simply and logically, simply means to meet attempted assaults on Riverrun. If a Lannister army camped near the castle with clear intention to assault it, it wouldn't be amiss for Edmure to ride out with a force to meet them and ward off the assault.
>No matter how you shift the goalposts on this
I'm not goalpost shifting, saying "lower commander" makes him sound like some irrelevant middle management. Yeah, he's subordinate to his king, but beyond that he's his most important commander. If all you were trying to say as that he's subordinate then fair enough.
>she clearly thinks of him as a bit moronic
She thinks he's an idiot for upholding basic feudal code and protecting his peasants, I think her perspective is a little biased.
>its clear that the Blackfish and Robb also view him that way
Before the fact? I can't really remember, but I don't think that was made clear.
>Edmure goes out with a force, perhaps to meet an army that is marching on Riverrun
But then he'd be disobeying his orders anyway, so that's a pretty pointless hypothetical.
>Neither was yours, so we're about even
Wasn't it? It was just a brief point that being direct family I don't see why he couldn't be trusted with the plan.
>it is clear from the text that Edmure's battle at the Red Fork was not his interpretation of Robb's orders, but rather it was an additional movement he saw fit to undertake on his own
It was an additional movement complementary to the fulfillment of the orders. There was zero reason for him to believe it would interfere with any plans because he was given no notion of any plans. It was a smart move given the information he had available, and it shouldn't be expected of such an important commander to take zero initiative in the achievement of his orders.
>And yet he did lol
Poorly worded on my part. Just saying him giving in and admitting he was wrong doesn't make him wrong.
Also what this user says pretty much
Anyway it's almost 5am here it was fun having this quibble I may read the rest of the thread when I wake up.
I watched episode 1 and it's trash. Does it get any better?
it was a good fight scene, post sword grapple entered the real kino territory
>Did you ever think to ask yourself why we remained in the west so long after Oxcross? You knew I did not have enough men to threaten Lannisport or Casterly Rock.
Eithrer Robb's plan to lure Tywin away only matured after he got to the Westerlands (in which case Edmure can't be blamed for thinking that the order of "holding Riverrun" included covering Robb's back), or it was the plan from the start, in which case there was no reason not to tell Edmure.
kinda stupid but outstandingly badass

The best part is under competent writers I could at least see some conflict cropping up when it turns out the Wildlings can’t adapt to feudal life (either through dislike/inability to farm or refusal to follow basic laws) and maybe some would actually decide to fuck off again

I don't mean it that way, by "lower commander" I just mean lower than Robb.
>She thinks he's an idiot for upholding basic feudal code and protecting his peasants, I think her perspective is a little biased.
For other things as well - his reaction to Hoster's death, his tendency to ride out for glory rather than thinking tactically, his reaction to marrying the Frey girl, etc. etc. Yes Cat is certainly biased.
>But then he'd be disobeying his orders anyway, so that's a pretty pointless hypothetical.
I don't think that would be considered disobeying orders.
>Wasn't it? It was just a brief point that being direct family I don't see why he couldn't be trusted with the plan.
Family =/= unconditional trust. It may not have even been a matter of trust anyway.
>It was an additional movement complementary to the fulfillment of the orders.
That isn't how Edmure seems to interpret it, and I disagree as well.
> It was a smart move given the information he had available
Not really. It was a move designed to win some glory. Edmure had no reason to think it would fuck with plans but also no reason to think it wouldn't. That's the point, lower commanders aren't supposed to consider shit like this. They're supposed to follow orders. It's Robb's job to consider what moves like this might fuck with, not Edmure's.
>Just saying him giving in and admitting he was wrong doesn't make him wrong.
I'm not pointing it out to say he's wrong. I'm pointing it out to say that it indicates that he didn't misinterpret the orders. Don't get it twisted.

Reminder that this was Jon Snow's final boss fight
>Post more
we've only been averaging 60 posters in the past 5-10 threads, /got/ is dying, read the OP
we've been struggling to reach bump limit of 310 with people posting the OPs early
Did you forget hardhome
Oh yeah, I did. He had to kill one Other sub-Lieutenant which he did with great ease and then another to get a wight. The Legend of Gin Alley was still a tougher fight for him
See you guys in two years or on /tg/
Hunt what? Army of the dead had been occupying beyond the Wall for a whole season now, and in the Hardhome episode Tormund said there's nothing to hunt in the woods
you forgot rabbit ears and lobstered gauntlets
Imao good to see merry is still triggering roasties
when exactly did the show turn from downton abbey with swords to medieval avengers
I'm glad I'm here with you Yea Forums, here at the end of all /got/
when Ramsay killed Roose and it became obvious good vs evil superhero movie
Jon you were the best of em.
My Captain, my Warden of the North, my unsung Stark.
My face will be one of dutiful sadness.
>nothing on the Iron Islands has an ass like that.
Why are Ironborn women so ugly?
What was the point of "winter is coming"?
based
newfriends
>What was the point of "winter is coming"?
Why did Stannis burn his daughter in mid to late fall when the weather stopped being so bad right afterwords?
Brothers till the end
If this is really the last /got/ general thread on Yea Forums I'll say it's been one of the better ones. Lots of on topic discussion, lets of old memes, and the new annoucement of the spinoff.
Mods if we're gonna get b&, lets go out like this, will a couragous bang.

Is this the classical Baratheon look?
I think it's just the Stark words that's basically means "be wary and careful"

>Thinking this is the end of /got/
The /got/guard does not flee. Now it begins
>died under Red Keep
>actor got cancer
>died under read keep
>literal cat
>died under read keep
why wasnt his sword on fire any longer at 4-5 seconds?
>Raped to death by the hound
you mean his fagot brother
>actor got cancer
Not really a good excuse considering GOT uses different actors for the same character all the time.
he means te original high septon, the one Cersei put in the Red Keep dungeons, Black Cells or otherwise
maybe his life force fuels the flame, it's dark magic, aint gotta explain shit
>wanting to replace Wilko
So who is the new High Septon? Did D&D even bother setting this up after the High Sparrow?
Was the center of the Faith moved to Oldstown after King's Landing burned down?
No. nohitends
I'm sorry if I offended you, ser
I BEND THE KNEE
I BEND THE KNEE
Our knees do not bend easily.
I BEND THE KNEE
>*hits u w/sword*
If Jon could control his women she would have to go along with it. Dany wants a strong husbando to put her in her place, and because he couldn’t do it Jon is left with 0 wives instead of 2
>nostalgia OC post I was working on /got/ sacked after my browser crashed
FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKK
I BEND THE FUCKING KNEE
disappointed in tee vee
guess LOST is just too old
For me, it's curly dark hair, pale skin and freckles
AAAAAAAAAA
Was he the Stannis of Westworld?
That tree asian is a cutie
If anything past/real bernard was more stannis. Man in black is more like the hound
Apart from killing his daughter I don't see much similarity.
Lucky for D&D and their meager world building abilities, the new High Septon is also named “the High Septon.”
Technically, isn't Bobby B more like William? He started off in his history as a happy heroic savior and then had a pretty dark turn. Lyanna is his Dolores, pretty much.
d and d are fucking stupid
Do you think they'll ever show ice dragons?
I'll miss you lads
>Did D&D even bother setting this up after the High Sparrow?
Did you honestly expect them to?
What was the point of Gendry being legitimized?
Checked, kekked, saddened and saved. Fuck Jon
>He started off in his history as a happy heroic savior and then had a pretty dark turn.
Robert started as a hedonistic degenerate who was really strong, and ended as a hedonistic degenerate who was somewhat fat. Not sure dark turn is the most appropriate description.
so house baratheon isn't dead
>Night king prequel
Anyone have the Bobby B wemb where he looks at those mad bar milkers?
I believe Bloodmoon/Long Night was the frontrunning prequel project, but after the blunder that was S8E03 and the lack of hype surrounding the Night King/WW they are seriously reconsidering it.
Hound was sort of like that too
>wow I can’t wait to grow up and be a knight like in the songs!
>gets half his face burned off
>never feels joy again
>noh nowy tends
what did he mean by that?
>D&D's writing was so bad that despite S8 being a massive cash cow it still caused recriminations in HBO
Same thing probably happen with all the prequels, but Long Night one is exceptionally dumb
Thank you user, you have brought a laugh into my life
>two years
We will all get our shit together by then, right anons?
Why did we stop numbering editions? Imagine how many we'd have by now
>no fat walda gf
it’s all i want
Based Jon /ourguy/
But rises harder in the prequels and spinoffs
>the only dead Houses are Tyrell, Martell and Targaryen
>only one who reproduced was the fat lazy coward most like George
But why? Inb4 Jon/Aegon, he's never gonna use or pass on that name or even have kids most likely
Lannister is extinct unless Bran legitimizes Brienne's child, Tyrion is sterile
They're filming a pilot next month. I definitely think it will get a season 1 order. They just need to establish that there must always be a night king and it would make s08e03 fine.
No confirmation of Tyrion’s sterility and they still have Lannister relatives through Kevan and his kids
Why would Tyrion be sterile? Besides, there's still the Lannisters of Lannisport and Lanna daughter of Gerion in Braavos.
kevan and all his kids are dead
Gendry is going to pull a henry tudor and be the bastard that takes back the throne of his family
...
Tyrion is a whoremonger and and no one has ever claimed a bastard was his.
Oh yeah, I forgot Martyn died in the show. Rip
I got you senpai
I'd watch the fuck out of the Gendry Rebellion
Whores drink the moon tea in Westeros and the same could be said of Theon pre-reekening.
user you give me the will to move on
thank you
