Why don't people like Godzilla? Why does it feel like people literally want Kaiju films to die?
I saw this in IMAX and enjoyed the hell out of it even though the story was pretty retarded. I came for giant monsters beating the shit out of each other, I was satisfied for the most part. That final shot got me good. I was excited for the future of the Monsterverse and that Godzilla vs Kong movie.
But outside of my close friends who also wanted to see it with me, everyone seems to hate this movie and the franchise. Even my girlfriend didn't like the movie. At work everyone barely mentioned the movie like, "Man they've been making those retarded Godzilla movies for years and they STILL can't get it right?" When I pointed out that even though the critic rating is low, the audiences seem to rate the film highly, most people didn't care and just talked about how cool that uninspired looking MIB reboot was and how they would rather buy tickets for it. Or how they're looking forward to the new Lion King which seems to detract from rather than add to the original work. Like you'd really rather have generic Marvel stars and a bunch of no name aliens rather than literally the most famous monster in all of film history? What is wrong with people?
Also:
>Serizawa is literally the embodiment of a lifelong kaiju fan ready to die for his giant monsters >movie ends with singing "They say he's got to go!" almost as if referring to movie critics and others who seem to want kaiju and Godzilla movies to die entirely. >King of the Monsters was supposed to save kaiju movies in Hollywood, and it's obviously not doing as well as people hoped.
It just feels like such a let down. Why don't other people see these giant, epic monsters as being as cool as kaiju fans do? Is it really that niche? I had such high hopes for the Monsterverse starting all the way back from 2014, and to see the downward trend at the box office of it being so pronounced... it really is disappointing.
Godzilla vs Kong is already in production. Remember that the previous movie also has influence on the next one. People generally disliked the 2014 Godzilla so there really wasn't any hype for KOTM. People generally liked KOTM though and are gonna spread the word for Kong vs Godzilla. I think the monsterverse will be doing just fine. Remember that people thought the MCU was gonna flop after Captain America, Thor and Hulk. They all did below expectations

The reason why is because the dialogue was genuinely terrible, and they kept focusing too much on the human characters. If they're going to spend so much time on the god damn humans, give us a decent story to go with it. If not, keep the humans minimal like Pacific Rim did. Again, the dialogue in this film had to be some of the worst I have ever heard in a big budget film.
The monster fights saved it though.

Too much focus on the humans. My god, can someone please make a supercut with the family omitted entirely.

Bullshit. Kotm is garbage

I could see how the film would disappoint since (unless you're an actual hardcore fan) most of the fanservice flew over newer viewers heads. I still havent heard anybody talk about the godzilla "Meltdown" theme from Godzilla vs. Destroyah that very breifly plays after godzilla does his firat atomic breath after Serizawas sacrifices. Theres tons of nods to thw whole franchise that next to nobody will catch.
Honestly this has just proven to me that people are shit tier plebians with no taste, even on Yea Forums
The first movie was so much damn better than the first one, it felt like a genuine work of art made by an artist. Sure it wasn't perfect but I was damn happy to forgive the stupid shit because it was so goddamn good looking, and the scene had perfect pacing, shot composition, lighting, sound design ect. Gojirra 2 the gojiraiing has probably twice the kaiju action as the first and 90% of it is shit. People bitched about "not enough godzilla" in the first movie but that's because of something called fucking TENSION, BUILDUP, GOD FUCKING DAMN.
Everyone time Godzilla showed up in the first, it was awe inspiring. He was massive. He had weight, momentum. You could fucking feel his size just by listening to him. The fights in the second have the same weight as all those stupid octoshark vs anacondodile movies. Sure the CGI was great but they took absolutely zero time making the pacing proper or giving the fights proper weight. It felt lie a movie that got killed in the editing room. Sure it has some great kino shots but they EVER fucking linger on them. It's like they just want to rush on to the next scene, there's never any damn time to enjoy anything.
6/10 monsters too fast and pacing was shit.

Just the latest news cycle. People want to pronounce it dead because it didn't make a billion dollars in a highly saturated market.
Meanwhile, it's a great film.

I mean let's talk about Serizawa's sacrifice in general. It was such a nice nod back to the original movie.
