Why don't people like Godzilla? Why does it feel like people literally want Kaiju films to die?
I saw this in IMAX and enjoyed the hell out of it even though the story was pretty retarded. I came for giant monsters beating the shit out of each other, I was satisfied for the most part. That final shot got me good. I was excited for the future of the Monsterverse and that Godzilla vs Kong movie.
But outside of my close friends who also wanted to see it with me, everyone seems to hate this movie and the franchise. Even my girlfriend didn't like the movie. At work everyone barely mentioned the movie like, "Man they've been making those retarded Godzilla movies for years and they STILL can't get it right?" When I pointed out that even though the critic rating is low, the audiences seem to rate the film highly, most people didn't care and just talked about how cool that uninspired looking MIB reboot was and how they would rather buy tickets for it. Or how they're looking forward to the new Lion King which seems to detract from rather than add to the original work. Like you'd really rather have generic Marvel stars and a bunch of no name aliens rather than literally the most famous monster in all of film history? What is wrong with people?
Also:
>Serizawa is literally the embodiment of a lifelong kaiju fan ready to die for his giant monsters >movie ends with singing "They say he's got to go!" almost as if referring to movie critics and others who seem to want kaiju and Godzilla movies to die entirely. >King of the Monsters was supposed to save kaiju movies in Hollywood, and it's obviously not doing as well as people hoped.
It just feels like such a let down. Why don't other people see these giant, epic monsters as being as cool as kaiju fans do? Is it really that niche? I had such high hopes for the Monsterverse starting all the way back from 2014, and to see the downward trend at the box office of it being so pronounced... it really is disappointing.
Godzilla vs Kong is already in production. Remember that the previous movie also has influence on the next one. People generally disliked the 2014 Godzilla so there really wasn't any hype for KOTM. People generally liked KOTM though and are gonna spread the word for Kong vs Godzilla. I think the monsterverse will be doing just fine. Remember that people thought the MCU was gonna flop after Captain America, Thor and Hulk. They all did below expectations
Bentley James
The reason why is because the dialogue was genuinely terrible, and they kept focusing too much on the human characters. If they're going to spend so much time on the god damn humans, give us a decent story to go with it. If not, keep the humans minimal like Pacific Rim did. Again, the dialogue in this film had to be some of the worst I have ever heard in a big budget film.
The monster fights saved it though.
Xavier Barnes
Too much focus on the humans. My god, can someone please make a supercut with the family omitted entirely.
Brayden Barnes
Bullshit. Kotm is garbage
Elijah Reyes
I could see how the film would disappoint since (unless you're an actual hardcore fan) most of the fanservice flew over newer viewers heads. I still havent heard anybody talk about the godzilla "Meltdown" theme from Godzilla vs. Destroyah that very breifly plays after godzilla does his firat atomic breath after Serizawas sacrifices. Theres tons of nods to thw whole franchise that next to nobody will catch.
Honestly this has just proven to me that people are shit tier plebians with no taste, even on Yea Forums
The first movie was so much damn better than the first one, it felt like a genuine work of art made by an artist. Sure it wasn't perfect but I was damn happy to forgive the stupid shit because it was so goddamn good looking, and the scene had perfect pacing, shot composition, lighting, sound design ect. Gojirra 2 the gojiraiing has probably twice the kaiju action as the first and 90% of it is shit. People bitched about "not enough godzilla" in the first movie but that's because of something called fucking TENSION, BUILDUP, GOD FUCKING DAMN.
Everyone time Godzilla showed up in the first, it was awe inspiring. He was massive. He had weight, momentum. You could fucking feel his size just by listening to him. The fights in the second have the same weight as all those stupid octoshark vs anacondodile movies. Sure the CGI was great but they took absolutely zero time making the pacing proper or giving the fights proper weight. It felt lie a movie that got killed in the editing room. Sure it has some great kino shots but they EVER fucking linger on them. It's like they just want to rush on to the next scene, there's never any damn time to enjoy anything.
6/10 monsters too fast and pacing was shit.
Ryan Hill
Just the latest news cycle. People want to pronounce it dead because it didn't make a billion dollars in a highly saturated market.
Meanwhile, it's a great film.
Isaiah Morgan
I mean let's talk about Serizawa's sacrifice in general. It was such a nice nod back to the original movie.
Brayden Sanchez
OH, so THAT'S why it felt like such a piece of garbage. The first film was a legitimate attempt by a director to make a godzilla adaptation and all the stupid dumb pimplefaced nerds were shitting their britches.
"muh original roar"
"muh original design"
"muh references"
FUCK OFF, I just saw the movie today and went back to rewatch the good parts of the first movie. God, EVERYTHING was so much better. If you nerds want to watch some dumb fucktards flip around in rubber suits then go do it yourself.
Cameron Harris
>The first movie was so much damn better than the first one
Asher Price
You put it very well thank you user
There was a few times in this new movie that a shot showed the scale, but nothing ever gave you that sense of scale like the first movie. A lot of it felt like they purposely did it to cut down on rendering time.. same with the human shit, It was all to cut down rendering time and costs.
David Diaz
Pretty much everyone I've talked to that wanted to see or did wind up seeing it enjoyed it. Problem is, most people just don't give a shit. I managed to get my girlfriend to go along, and she barely agreed to come, but she still wound up loving it. My few coworkers who saw it loved it, and we all had pretty much the same opinion. Human shit was better than '14, still not great, but at least passable, and the monster fights were way better. Shit, I didn't expect to see Ghidorah running around what felt like 30 minutes into the movie. As someone who is a fan, but not huge fan, of Godzilla, I was real fuckin pleased with the movie.
Godzilla '14 just left a bad taste in the mouths of people who are on the fence about Godzilla-type movies. Hopefully Kong vs Godzilla will have a much better turnaround, if that does well they'll probably move forward and we'll get the Mecha-Ghidorah fight that was teased.
Dylan Foster
Could you people be any more of insufferable stupid dweebs?
>ah yes, what I want to see in my new 2019 godzilla movie is callbacks to some stupid shitty 50 year old movie about a man in a rubber suit destroying cardboard buildings >Oh no no I don't want any changes or new developments please just make sure you reference the original movie a bunch of times please
FUUUCK OFFF NERD
Kayden Cruz
I waiting for more Toho films
Chase Campbell
Pardon me, dumb but more fun kaiju movie passing through. And likely more fun than upcoming Kong vs Godzilla as well.
That's exactly it, the first one had such an awe inspiring sense of scale. They took their damn time and they did such a good job. If you legitimately think this is better than the first movie, you're a pathetic uncultured pleb who can't even appreciate the most basic of cinema. I'm not talking about a fucking dumb pretentions oscar bait indie whatever, I'm talking about a fucking godzilla movie. If you were too logheaded to appreciate the first film you should basically just cut your eyes out and shove them up your ass, you'll actually be watching better shit than you were before.
So for "The first movie" did you mean Godzilla 2014 and for "the first one" did you mean Godzilla 1998?
Lincoln Baker
2014 Gojira was a FILM made by Gareth Edwards. King of the plebs was a flick made by some fucking guy and a corporate committee. I don't care what you think, the first one unquestionably had a better vision than the second one.
Gareth Edwards was the Director, Director of photography, director of visual effects and producton designer. That was HIS movie. A real man made that film. This second film is just a bunch of suits who got together and whipped up a big steaming pile of corporate mass appeal shit designed to ticke the anuses of all the dumb retarded nerds who orgasm on response as programmed to popculture references.
Leo Gray
>why does it feel like people literally want Kaiju films to die?
Because you candy asses insist on calling them “Kaiju films”
Kayden Martin
2014
Nigger if you're so grug tier retarded that you think 2014 godzilla was artsy academy shit then you should go back to playing with your toy dinosaurs because holy fucking shit, there is no hope for modern cinema. If your ADHD riddled autism infested mind isn't nerdgasming every five seconds to a reference to some other series or previous movie or franchise and some stupid flashy bullshit isn't on the screen every five fucking seconds you probably pull out your phone.
I'm normally the guy who rips into pretentious shit but GOD this film was just so disappointing compared to the first one. The monsters just looked like stupid puppets.
Christian Cook
I bet you liked the Last Jedi (You) faggot. Take it and get out of the King's thread.
Godzilla and Chernobyl threads are comfy at least. It's a nice change from all the capeshitting threads.
Leo Perez
Nigger don't speak to me if you think godzilla and the last jedi are even close in terms of quality. I mean at least TLJ looked really nice but there's not much else nice you can say about it. Which is the damn problem, being that it's the what, 8th movie in a franchise?
2014 Godzilla was an original movie and a fresh idea from a new and innovative director and the fucking dumb plebians on this board and everywhere else shit all over it because you stupid fucks can't appreciate proper pacing, tension or buildup. By god if there aren't giant monsters fighting every single second of the movie it's pure and utter shit. My fucking boomer dad has a better understanding of cinema than this entire board and he thinks the prequels are the best starwars moves, loves all the transformers movies, you get the idea. He actually has decent taste sometimes, you're just all brainless lumps of inert protoplasm.
Jose Lewis
I dunno if you understand this but Godzilla IS popculture. This is the entire reason why people wach Godzilla. 2014 Godzilla was just generic Hollywood monster. KOTM Godzilla felt like the actual and true Godzilla. As well as the actual Mothra. Fanservice is all a Godzilla movie should be about. Not some hack director trying his take on Cloverfield and slapping the name Godzilla on it.
Gabriel Hernandez
To be fair I hate both Fazilla movies.
Oliver Long
You are right
Godzilla should have tons of fanservice, and make sure the film is about the special moments of two monsters fighting for dominance. It can be serious and can try to be emotional, but either way it was a good movie and I can't wait for the next one.
Alexander Miller
>Fanservice is all a Godzilla movie should be about. >THIS is Yea Forums's legitimate opinion
Jesus christ how much onions and estrogen do you consume on a daily basis?
Mason Garcia
What are you on about? I loved 2014 and put it in my top 10 Godzilla movies, but I love King of the Monsters as well. Just because you'd have preferred it to maintain the tone of the first doesn't make it an objectively bad movie. I know where you're coming from, I defended 2014 for years from plebs who were upset there wasn't enough action because they'd never seen an actual Godzilla movie, but don't be hating on my boy KOTM
Owen Ross
Mothra was the best thing from this movie. She lit up the sky with hope like the Aurora Borealis amidst Ghidorah's hell storm.
Wyatt Adams
You nigger, the original 1954 was legit an amazing film, but if you actually expect a modern hollywood cgi film to be an actually good film, you are a cumhead. Hollywood films now are all copy paste retard shit. Go watch marvel again
Jace Lewis
Why did they try to make Mothra sexy
Jace Perez
>le marvel boogeyman
Dominic Rogers
I like that it was a mirrored version of the 54 film, with Original Serizawa sacrificing himself to kill Godzilla, with modern Serizawa sacrificing himself so Godzilla would live. I just wish he would have lost an eye on the events of G14 so that he would be sporting an eyepatch in kotm
Blake Wood
2014 was the furthest thing from a copypaste capeshit you can get and people hated it for it. Also I'm not autistic enough to watch men in rubber suits smash model cities.
It wasn't a bad movie, it was just a bad sequel. It's got nothing worthwhile aside from the monster v monster action and it's got a lot of that but all of the action is objectively worse than the 2014 movie so I don't see what the point is. I'd rather take quality over quantity.
Logan Butler
Don't worry user, I'll go see it tomorrow. I'm gonna save /ourkaiju/
Robert Gray
I was talking in general the whole hollywood industry is copypaste, with exceptions. KotM was kino in the sea of shit. Like, did you see the Robocop reboot? No cause it was retarded with no fanservice. KotM had a retarded story but at least there were good monster scenes and fanservice. Appreciate the good shit man.
Also rubber suit shit is just funny, if you are "not autistic enough" that means you are too much of a fag to get over yourself. It's just a movie dude who cares
Owen Gomez
I like it. The shilling here is disgusting though. It makes you all look like hypocrits.
James Smith
I remember watching Godzilla 2 years ago and dropped it because they didn't bother showing him in the first 25 mins. At least Kong was the star of his movie and was in it from scene 1.
Anthony Howard
To each their own I suppose. I really liked it for it's own charm. It was a bit lighter, but maybe I'm just blinded by my love for the series, it came off as a modern Showa era movie when it came to plot, action, characters etc
