The only prequels worth adapting is stuff like the Dance of Dragons or the Ninepenny Kings. In fact, Ninepenny Kings has all the right elements:

- Young Jon Arryn meeting his counterparts in Rickard Stark, Hoster Tully, and Steffon Baratheon
- Alliance of various characters like Maelys the Monstrous, Ebon Prince, etc. who have their own agendas and bound to help one another
- Kino battle at Stepstones where prime Barristan slays Maelys

The white walker plot should've been all of season 8, with 9 being the last war. Even if they'd stuck to this shortened format of 6-7 episodes per season, the extra 6 (and the added break time between locations) would've taken a lot of pressure off the cast and crew and allowed them to write their way to this ending without taking the torch to every single character along the way. It's incredible just how thoroughly they mismanaged it all.

Nothing in Dorne makes sense in the show because they completely cut a major faction and contender for the throne. If you're wondering why Varys has been useless for so long this is also why.

To get around that all they could have young Robert and Ned adventures, and Harrenhal could be a comfy season leading into the rebellion. Obviously you aren't squeezing 8 seasons out of it, but you could get 2 or 3 workable seasons out of all of it. Could have a bunch of episodes centered around Rhaegar fucking around with his autism, could have episodes focused on Stannis holding Storm's End. Hell even have some of Robert's early days as King before he completely phones it in. It'd still be better than the stupid long night shit we're getting
