No 6/10 at best

Nothing compared to the first one.

Loved it. Not without its issues, but I enjoyed it. 8/10

Based and true

without a doubt

Solid 4/10

Strong point was the monster fights, but they were rushed and unsatisfying to make more screen time for shitty human characters.

The made the same mistake here that they did with their DC movies. They rushed through setting up a big shared universe instead of letting it happen naturally and they tried to copy the Marvel formula which to them means "make it as dumb as possible"

I'd be willing to bet that all of the major complaints people have had about the film can be traced back to the studio mandates.

>DC
Their Godzilla vs. Kong thing will probably mirror Batman v. Superman too with the two squaring off before teaming up to face a bigger thread, which will probably be a villain spawned from Ghidorah's head or a resurrected Ghidorah.

Yes
>when the mom realizes her mistakes can only be rectified by her sacrifice
>burning Godzilla
>the reveal that Godzilla views humanity as an equal alpha predator
>final battle that plays the classic human theme
>ghidoras design
>mothra finally winning a fight

Absolutely Kino.

Mothra was fucking based the entire time. She was really about to stab the shit out of ghidorah and it was wonderful.

The film was definitely made by Godzilla fans for Godzilla fans. Chads like Tyrone Magnus loved it, while bugmen reviewers and incels ITT trashed it. So many awesome monster fights in this film.

By Yea Forums's recent, asinine standards? Absolutely.

Extremely based and misunderstood, albeit with some pacing issues. Among the best Godzilla films ever made, and the absolute best American one by far.

I felt that death and sacrafice way more than any other recent movie death. The way she tried to protect Godzilla with her wings :(

Seems like it was a good enough the satiate the manchildren that still care about Godzilla in 2019, but thankfully it looks like Godzilla vs. Kong will be the last hollywood Zilla flick we get in a long, long time.

I don't understand why WB and these other production companies keep thinking they can rush and take shortcuts to just have an instant shared universe like Marvel without putting any of the groundwork into at all. They take a fairly standalone film and then suddenly declare it is the foundation of a shared universe retroactively. It worked ok with Godzilla since it's a brainless monster movie and everyone already knows his enemies, but was an absolute failure and trainwreck trying to turn Man of Steel into that since at no point does that film work when connected to any other DC character or story. Blows my mind that they still haven't learned.

If you observe just the monster fights in a vacuum then it's pretty damn good, unfortunately they're just parts of a whole movie and it's objectively not very well made

King of the Kinos.

There will never be another shared universe like the MCU. No matter what studio tries. It was a happy accident that it turned out as well as it did and I doubt even Disney could replicate it again if they needed to for some reason. Look how badly they've fucked up Star Wars

Twas based

9/10, Certified Kino, don't @ me.

>Godzilla marching towards ghidorah, flanked by the airforce as his theme music plays

This scene alone was worth the ticket price

>everything with Rodan

This was just a bonus

The theme added so much to the film. It also made me realize why I hated the 2014 film

It wasn't an accident, it was well organized and headed up by competent leaders. They took their time with it, were patient and deliberate with their planning and pacing. It wasn't about getting to the finish line first, it was about building a finish line worth reaching and journey worth taking to get there. Everyone else ran headlong in without any plans or patience trying to play catch up because they desperately wanted a piece of the pie. If they actually wanted to build a shared universe for the sake of it and not for trying to making a quick buck, they could have easily done it with DC. Instead they charged headlong into a storyline that should have been at least 10 films in the making right off the bat and then immediately followed it up with something that should have been built up to with another 5 films. The other plans like with the Universal monsters were never ever going to work because that idea is shit tier though.

>this revisionism
You can tell it wasn't planned out from the beginning because of all the retcons and ass pulls they had to do tp keep it going. Hulk was panned and flopped, IM 1 didn't even have a finished script, was made with no shared universe planned, and at the time no one even had the rights to all the characters. Phase 1 was entirely carried by the onscreen charisma of RDJ. Anyone else in that role and the whole thing never would have got off the ground like it did.

>There will never be another shared universe like the MCU.

I legit can't believe I'm saying this, but the Conjuring universe proves that's not true. All of its movies have been successes, even movies they said weren't part of the universe but were clearly written like that and then later stated 'oh yeah it totally was part of our universe!' Horror movies have a lower bar obviously but they're 6 movies in and they've all been hits.

It can be done.

Iron Man 1 was a good movie and entirely self contained which probably helped a lot tbqh

being self contained and running up to a shared universe thing is a lot more cathartic

Coupled with that, Iron Man 2 was every bit as shitty as The Mummy's attempts at suddenly juicing up to 11 the whole 'shared universe' thing and everyone at the time could see it was just a setup for Avengers that didn't even end up mattering.

What keeps happening is that the first film does well enough but doesn't generate enough audience goodwill to create hype for the next movie, which means the sequel is doomed to be modestly successful at best. This isn't good enough because they need momentum to set up the endless string of sequels they have planned, so they panic and overreact. They jump straight to stories that should be finales, they fill the script to bursting with Marvel quips that feel out of place because the initial movies didn't have a Marvel tone, they add a bunch of sequel setup to the middle of the movie that just makes it feel bloated and disjointed, etc.

Godzilla was an especially risky choice to make a cinematic universe out of because you would need an enormous budget to do the CGI right even for the spinoff movies that wouldn't even be in the running for blockbuster money. Rodan and Mothra standalone movies would be expensive to make but wouldn't bring in huge money even if they were riding off the success of KotM had it done well. The only way this franchise could have succeeded the way they envisioned it is if every single installment got more hype than the last, which is an insane thing to bet on happening.

floppino

If you are a Godzilla fan and understand some of the nuance it was portraying in respect to earlier films sure. Was worth the ticket for me.

The shot of Godzilla and Ghidorah facing off in the storm for the first time was pretty cool

>Tyrone Magnus
i wanna be friends with dat nigga, seems like a fun guy

Lol WB can’t get away with making 23 Godzilla films.

will they finally show him fighting kong during the day
