The ending truly made a mediocre movie kino
Literally the only decent King flick, and only because the ending wasn't his idea.
Sure the ending was memorable, but did it actually contribute to the story? What did the ending even mean?
I hope you watched the black & white version.
>Shining
>Dolores Claiborn
>Shawshank redemption
>Misery
>Stand by Me
All very good movies. All based on his ideas. All made without him taking part in anything, thank god.
>What did the ending even mean
That the government had everything under control and all he would have had to do was wait 5 minutes before killing his only child.
exactly. the most devastating and best ending i have ever seen
The ending ruined the whole point of the movie and it's tacked like a sore thumb.
A story about holding your beliefs and ground even if there's uncertainty at the end of your choices gets demolished by showing that the main character, punisherguy, truly did everything fucking wrong and it was all pointless.
So I can make a good movie just by having an edgy emotionally charged ending that has nothing to do with the actual plot? Got it.
Haste makes waste
Literally the opposite. It turned kino into chlok.
>What did the ending even mean?
Don't be a fucking pussy.
>Shining
>the best King flick is the one he hates the most
Pottery
>chlok
Saw this back in the day and loved every second of it until the very end and wondered what the fuck did I just watched
The ending made no sense with the ambience and narrative of the whole movie. Was one of the first times when I went to ye olde internet and looked through it. Alas, I was right, the ending was a stupid decision done at the last moment and got rolled in because King said something along the lines "yeah, whatever it's cool". Validated by the poor choice of words from an old alcoholic guy, the director thought himself a genius, fucking his work entirely.
The ending is poignant and its message simple: if you go down, go down fighting. It's no wonder it offends lazy entitled neo-Yea Forums.
Yeah well, that's not it. It was just shock value. Lame.
If only he'd waited like a minute
the church lady was right all along. sacrifice your child it all ends or some shiz
>too dumb to understand metaphors
>WAAAH SHOCK VALUE
Funny you're ignoring all the posts above to fit your narrasstive
Why do so many of you constantly attack King but then say his ideas are good. It's OK to admit you like King you know, nobody is going to take away your redditor points.
To be fair King's reasons for disliking Kubrick's The Shining are valid. I think the film is a masterpiece, but it also diverges considerably from the source material, in King's opinion, going so far as butchering everything great about it. But he does have a point in how Kubrick completely removed any character development that Jack Nicholson's character should've had, or any trace of humanity for that matter. It's the same with the wife character who was brought down to the level of a caricature or puppet. As someone who has read the book it is based on, it is hard not to agree or sympathize with King's sentiments.
It's worth mentioning of all adaptations out there this is the only one that King has been vocal about. It's not even the highest grossing (Green Mile), highest rated (8.4 compared to Shawshank's 9.6 according to IMDB ratings) or popular (recall during its release it received mixed reviews), so "best" is definitely subjective
>suicide
>go down fighting
Ok
>To be fair King's reasons for disliking Kubrick's The Shining are valid. I think the film is a masterpiece, but it also diverges considerably from the source material
Film is better than the book, because it drops and have more focus than the story King wanted to tell.
>dude let’s just make the most nihilist ending possible LMAO
Fuck off, bad endings should occur when there’s a reason for it. Especially when the entire thing could’ve been averted if he would’ve just waited an extra couple of minutes, didn’t even make logical sense, dude does all that to leave the station and his immediate reaction to running out of fuel is sodoku? Retarded.
the movie was about fear and what it does to people
the turth is oftentimes better and not as bad as people think
cant believe Yea Forums is so full of literal brainlets
>Why do so many of you constantly attack King but then say his ideas are good
You can commend someone for inventing the wheel but you can't say using squares instead of circles was masterful
It's shit
No one remembers the part where the son shit scared asks his father to do anything it takes to avoid being consumed by those monsters. No one considers the practical reaistic aproach in the actions of the father thorough the movie, that also apply for the situation after all they've experienced.
Truly a pleb filter.
