It’s up there

Top tier but doesn’t beat the mechagodzilla 3 movies or destroyah

It's definitely my favorite

No, Id say its Godzilla 2000 quality if anything to compare it to. Best Godzilla film is still GMK

I loved it, I say yes

No. Still a failure. Dis-functional family/10. Both main characters are totally lost/confused and by the end of the movie totally switch sides. Finding Godzilla's P.O. Box and street address was hard as fuck until conveniently they needed to do it. They helped the enemy in their dumb fuck at stopping him. Her entire premise for helping the monsters was spot on, until her stupidity kicked in and she joined humanity again. Fuck this movie. Based terrorist old dude should have assassinated the little girl but didn't because of....uh...compassion?.

>tfw this played over the credits
K I N O
youtube.com/watch?v=lOO8Um_jmLI

It's my 5th favorite.
1. Godzilla vs. Biollante
2. Shin Godzilla
3. Godzilla 1954
4. Mothra vs. Godzilla
5. Godzilla - King of the Monsters

What deep cuts do you hope make it into the franchise?

Titanosaurus needs to make a comeback

Toho pls

If we're just taking the monster parts I'd still put it below Shin, Biollante, Shoshingeki, '84, and GMK. The moster parts are top tier and up there with the best.

If we're taking it as a whole package, people parts included, I think it ends up somewhere in the middle of the pack. It's two fucking hours long and like 75% of that is spent on some really weak human characters.

My dad said it was so I think it’s safe to say it’s the best Godzilla movie ever bros....

based dad

Has your dad seen Shin?

Sure, if you’ve only seen the American Godzilla movies.

Good lad.

I really like Shin, but it feels like a totally different movie to KotM.

In terms of American Godzilla’s, this is THE definitive take

No doubt, Shin was in the same vein as '53 and '84. This one was one of the big free for alls like Shoshingeki and GMK.

Easily the best American Godzilla that goes without saying.

Gigan

it was based af
only cringe part was the gonorreah joke
but everything else was great
especially liked that Rhodan is now a spic and loved seeing him bow to the king
Mothra a cute!
chinese girls were cute to, also mommy farmiga and weird fish fucking girl

Fish fucker was cute, i was sad that she died

she really made that satanic pos movie bearable

No 2014 was better

I mean the shape of water, also blessed digits

In what way? Genuinely curious

>Shows godzilla for less than ten minutes of the film
Nah.

I loved 2014 but for me KOTM is better. I really liked 2014's buildup of Godzilla but it spent a bit too much time with the buildup. KOTM just went fuck that here's Godzilla in all his glory.

can't argue with dad

>Retarded human characters with muddled motivations
>Too many cutaways to the Stranger Things bitch's side rescues
>Every fight is like 10 seconds of action, maybe one big swing or blast before cutting away to more dumb human shenanigans
>Minimal onscreen kaiju building destruction
>Every fight takes place in a cloudy void, no trace of the sense of scale Edwards masterfully executed in 2014
That's a no for me dawg

it's easily one of the worst

Ignore all contrarians.

Wheres Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla, you pleb?

Attached: raregoji.jpg (888x1076, 89K)

No. But it was fun. Especially the part where Ghidorah shoots electricity out of his wings.

The best Godzilla movie is still Gojira.

Rodan based

>tfw when the meaty parts inside the metal birds pop out directly into your mouth

Attached: proxy.duckduckgo.com.jpg (1200x825, 217K)

No, but it's one I'll probably be rewatching way more than a bunch of the others.

why does current day reddi/tv/ only care about box office numbers and why does this apply to every movie but blade runner 2049, for which low box office is instead a confirmation that it is indeed a timeless masterpiece?
This series is over with the next movie which has already been produced, who gives a mad fuck how much money it makes? I have no Legendary stocks and I doubt any of you do either

OK well how about this if you're so strong.

1. Final Wars.
2. Shin.
3. Monster Island.
4. Smog Monster.
5. KotM.

How about that huh? Huh? Huh?

I actually like most of the movies for different reasons so it's hard to make a top 5 list, however anything heavily featuring Minira I can't physically watch I hate him so much, worse than Scrappy Doo.

Attached: a45ae7d.jpg (960x958, 90K)

Not even close to as good as pic related, the real best Godzilla movie

Attached: 1944813_1.jpg (630x630, 86K)

Just came back from seeing this movie for the second time, on IMAXnow
I can safely say now it's a solid 7/10 movie. The worst parts are not the shitty human drama which is tolerable but the constant interruptions of the monster fights. It gets particularly jarring during the final fight between Goji and Ghidorah. It drags the movie down immensely.
Rodan's awakening is probably the best sequence in the movie.
Ghidorah gets easily his best portrayal ever and was fucking awesome in general.
Mothra was cute and lovely.
Serizawa was beyond based and I teared up at his last words
And lastly this movie was made for IMAX, hearing Goji's original roar on it was something else.

Agreed Dad. Fuck the critics.

SAAVE THE EARTH!
(SAAVE THE EARTH!)
SAAVE THE EARTH!

HES MY MONSTERFU

Final Wars is based, extremely underrated film.

be glad we are even getting 4 big budget hollywood toho kaiju movies user

Attached: tumblr_n6ba662z6b1r87axwo1_500.png (500x375, 83K)

That is more or less how I felt about it, overall I liked it and the monster bits they did show were great but way to many cut aways.
We sit through a boring first hour of dumb people parts, the middle has some good action then we spend the rest of the moving building up to this fenway brawl at the end and they kept cutting away in the middle of it. it was seriously aggravating because you could hear it going on, they're shooting lasers roaring smacking eachother but we can't see any of it because stranger things girl is apparently the focus and not Godzilla.

In my top 5 for sure.

Who's going to win?

Anyone know where can I watch/download it?

My friends don't want to watch it with me and I don't want to go alone

Kong, they said they were going to base the fight off BO numbers and this movie is flopping so Kong is going to crush Goji.

Did anyone else heard this

after they used the oxygen destroyer, or was I dreaming?

Hire a prostitute/escort for the night, and have her pretend to be your date. Only costs like $200-300 if you want a reasonably pretty one.

No but I think they played it when Serizawa was getting in the capsule.

Go for the latest showing, be comfy alone in the theater with popcorn and nobody will see you cry at that one Serizawa scene. It's the best.

Has there been any news on the criterion showa box set?

Damn right. That movie threw fucking anything it could into the mix.
>alien matrix motorbike battle
>98 godzilla getting curbstomped
>white moustache man with katana
>drilling machines
>fighting pits

To me, the perfect Godzilla movie formula. That is, whenever you're not shouting and cheering you are laughing too hard to maintain composure.

Tbh that movie had some amazing fucking concept art too.

sauce for such a claim?

How could anyone prefer 2014 over KotM? I watched it again and it was a slog IMO. I find it amazing someone can give KotM a 4/5 vs giving a 2/5 to KotM. I'm not trying to shit on those that may prefer 2014, but what do those that see in it over KotM? I feel the Rodan chase scene alone is better than anything in 2014.

Or is it more of a disappointment that more wasnt done with the well known trio to make it more grandiose that its "worse" because it stings even more?

There is still a Godzilla 3 confirmed.

>Mothra vs Godzilla
Based

Not at all, but I still enjoyed it.

Formerly down there

What makes some of the other Godzilla movies better to you? Are there certain checks that make a GREAT film vs a serviceable one? Where did KotM come up short? I feel many of us are on a high, but then I 've see some say it comes up short in some regards and some hardcore fans it disappoints.

Attached: image.gif (500x192, 925K)

I say it short and simple: the movie was great and works fine, a few more monster fight scenes could have been great but it huge step forward from the first movie.
Fuck the critics and fuck the typical contrarian Yea Forums poster who just wants to look smart while his mom cant stop crying every time when she is looking at that failure that is living in her house.

His dirty fat ass

Plus that amazing montage of Godzilla BTFO'ing every last goddamn monster. Loved the Kumonga in there too and the cameo by those mantis things from Monster Island.

No. The 1998 movie is the best Godzilla movie.

DO NOT FORGET CYBORG GIGAN FFS

I did this and the Latina hooker enjoyed the movie so much she gave me free anal

I liked KotM, but I honestly think it was just too long. Most other Godzilla movies are only about an hour and a half, and I don't really like Final Wars because it's also so fucking long. With longer lengths like that, the non-monster parts start to just drag on and you begin to lose patience with them.

My kino coworker who normally has incredibly good taste in movies absolutely hated it, and I don't want to be friends with with him anymore.

The sound design and effects aren't getting enough praise.
Maybe it was overwhelming for some but it was perfect for me.
The sound is worth seeing it in imax alone.
Don't forget about the atomic breath charge up and fire sound effect user, I need it in all future Toho releases too, love it so much.
youtube.com/watch?v=umCFLc7a1aQ

He's right you weeb faggot.

depends

if they are going with the darker serious nuclear commentary type movie then the characters need to be well written and godzilla needs to feel like a horrifying nuclear demon (Shin)

If they are going for the more fun monster fight shit then they need to double down on the kaiju fun schlock and fuck off with the humans narrative (KOTM)

>The best Godzilla movie is still Gojira.
Based and gojirapilled.

My major gripe with this one was the fights we did get were hard to see, they spend way too much time in close ups and frantically cutting between the humans and the monsters to the point the fights lose all sense of cohesion.

Compare that to
youtube.com/watch?v=FduP45p-o6k

Do you feel KotM came up a bit short in the Kaiju fun compared to some of the other films in the series?

Certainly the best-looking. I was fucking amazed.

based and wholesome

>movie about Godzilla splitting a family apart is bringing families together in real life
Poetry of life

Did anyone else cry when Mothra died? Sure he was super feminine and basically a faggot with wings, but like it or not, he destroyed Rodan. So "gay" or not, he more than proved his worth and ferocity as a monster. Perhaps a respectable 3rd place as far as hierarchy goes.

I'm glad your dad liked it. My sister said she thought it was really good and I was happy she also enjoyed it.

Attached: 1559497211585.jpg (1024x768, 91K)

>The sound design and effects aren't getting enough praise.
I didn't like Ghidorah's roar, It sounded too much like Godzilla's and he didn't have a distinctive cackling sound to it.

You post this bait about Mothra being male in every Thread. Get a fucking Life.

not only is it a movie about familial love... it is the key to it

What did they hate about it?

based double dubs of retardation

I do wish Mothra had more screen time but I was plenty satisfied with the amount of Kaiju ation in the movie

Ghidorahs tail rattling was nice

yeah, he said hes never really watched a godzilla movies but he respects them because he was around when almost all of them came out so he respects them

How is Mothra female if he has a stinger??

the credits were kino as fuck
youtube.com/watch?v=w9kcqmuU-rk

Story pacing and writing mostly. I can agree with him that it is was pretty bad, but the stuff with godzilla was good enough to outweigh it for me. He also hated the nuclear bomb scene.

You mean the one with Serizawa in the ruins?

I don't know why, i didn't really like it.

Yeah that one

I wish we saw more military effort against the monsters. That’s the staple of every Godzilla movie. As the army march plays we see the military mobilizing knowing they won’t do jack shit to stop them but they must do what they can to save the people of the country. That’s what the movies need to focus on for real drama that would sell in the USA.

What a fucking retard.

Immediately remembered this when that scene happened

Did you not catch when there was a shot of Ghidorah Rawring and it cuts to a tv/computer screen of Ghidorah in the same moment but there's no roar and the phone rings and it sounds just like the old Ghidorah roar.
That was enough for me.
I didn't mind the new approach at all to his sounds

>bongo drums start playing

I haven't seen it yet.

For the people that have, do you thing it'd be possible to combine 2014 and kotm into one film completely editing out most if not all of the human stuff from kotm?

the submarine stuff was kind of boring

better
youtube.com/watch?v=b5d4Nak_0EY

It is the best American godzilla movie, yes.

I loved this guy

Okay, but that's not Serizawa's sacrifice.

No not at all. The human stuff actually is pretty subtle in this one and it all goes toward making sure the audience knows what's going on with the monsters

Your friend is retarded sorry

Yeah I totally agree, I swear there is a good 60ish minute movie inside this 2-hour behemoth.

I'd honestly cut the entire family drama since they add almost nothing to the movie. Also you don't need half the exposition they kept dumping on us and all the one-liner jokes fell flat so I'd cut those too. Show Ghidora calling out form the Volcano and then show all the other Kaiju waking up in response and we get it, no 5 minute scene where they explain this to dumb-dumbs needed.

His theme is so fucking hype

Dad is a lad fuck the nerds.

Big missed opportunity was Ghidorah destroying D.C. Instead we just got the aftermath.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=nLgReKPvK7s

>I didn't mind the new approach
I did, we lost the distinctiveness of the roars it was something that was really clever since you'd always know which monsters you were dealing with. Now they just roar and they all kinda sound the same. I'm sure they could have done a modernize cackle that still sounded distinctly like Ghidorah.

.

>Human stuff actually is pretty subtle in this one
Jesus christ, do morons actually believe this?

>that barrel roll

Are you plain retarded ? The majority of female insects like wasps etc have a stinger

I enjoyed it but I'm more stunned that my gf liked it so much

yeah DC got completely fucking obliterated and they barely touch on it

You're in a thread full of them. Look at all these pathetic incel brainlets praising this bottom tier flick. Godzilla movies are already a very low bar as it is by their nature, but both 98 and 2014 are definitely better films.

Def top5
Original and shin are in the top 3

Is it at least better than the first? It has to be better than Pacific Rim 2

Same problem with 2014. Too much focus on retarded human characters nobody cares about. I get why they do it. They pay for these actors and need to get their money's worth by showing them all the time. But that's maybe why Hollywood will never make a *great* Godzilla movie. A great Godzilla movie needs 1.) Godzilla and 2.) big fucking monsters to fight Godzilla. Anything and everything else will just get in the way and muddle the movie. 90% of the focus should be on Godzilla and the monsters. 10% of the movie should be on humans being overwhelmed and in awe of Godzilla.

That's how you make a great Godzilla movie. Maybe they will get it right with movie #3?

I didn't like it at first, but after seeing the film and hearing it over the credits it won me over.

Good scenes:
>That MOTU head in the HQ
>the tail rattling of Ghidorah
>whole " Atlantis " part
>Ghidorah heads bitching at each other
>and that fucking moment when Godzilla breaks through the surface and the old Godzilla theme starts playing

Same, she even cried when Mothra died

I loved how shin went back to the roots of making a somewhat straight catastrophe movie, but where the catastrophe is, well, godzilla.

please don't kid yourself

It's a good for the kaiju fights but that's about it.

It’s definitely not the best Godzilla movie. But its definitely the best American Godzilla film.

It is though. Compared to most other Godzilla movies this one has a HUGE monster to human ratio. And like that user said, it's all mostly necessary

>It's a good for the kaiju fights but that's about it
does anything else matter?

I actually sided with the terrorists on this one because if all the humans die we wouldn't get any more boring human focused scenes.

yes. and other movies do those other parts better. GMK specifically

Well it's a 2 hour movie and only like 20 minutes of that is monster fights. The fights are pretty good if you can stand them cutting back to the people every 30 seconds.

>No. Still a failure. Dis-functional family/10. Both main characters are totally lost/confused and by the end of the movie totally switch sides.
Americans have a lot of dysfunctional families and think they can relate to pedantic people.

I really wanted for them to fucking die and let the narrative in the hands of scientists and millitia looking with analytic despair the chaos and destruction. But NOOOOOoooo, let's watch a cocksucker and his high horse bitch fuck her daughter's future.

For those who enjoyed this movie, did you just pull out your phone and ignore the human scenes? Or were you genuinely immersed in the human plots?

No one goes to these movies for the human scenes. The biggest draw of the franchise is seeing monsters wreck shit.

So an hour and a half of flaming trash for like a half hour of decent fights? Sounds cucked

This shit was genuinely fucking boring

I can honestly say I was completely invested in the human plot for the first time ever in a Godzilla film. Especially the wife's character who I thought had really interesting motivations and was handled super well

Genuinely don't understand why people are bitching so much about the human parts. Its not amazing but its not unwatchable. Literally on the same level of writing as any other hollywood tentpole movie.

Don't be pussy just go alone. Plus you wont really be alone cause Godzilla will be with you throughout the film.

Just watched it a few hours ago. I only cared about Ken Watanabe und Charles Dance. I ignored the rest und had a great time seeing the monster action. Could it have been mor fighting, maybe Godziall against another Titan before going head to head with Ghidorah ?
Sure ? But i enjoed it nevertheless and dont go full Autist because i got what i expected.

I liked serizawa but thats about it

I just watched those scenes. That's all. They weren't great other than the Serizawa scene, but I just watched them the same as I do for any other Godzilla movie.

The first one is far better and is in fact the only good Godzilla film. But yes, this is much better than Pacific Rim 2 which was basically just a slightly more watchable version of that pile of shit Godzilla Final Wars.

i liked Serizawa, that was about it. the human shit was necessary but boring

There were few enough human scenes that I was fine with them, and the wife twist was interesting. I did use one of the scenes to go take a piss though.

Because it goes on for most of the movie? The movie is mostly shitty humans

>The first one is far better and is in fact the only good Godzilla film
Can you get more bluepilled than this?

Yeah but like 70% of this movie is humans and maybe 30% is monsters.

I really hoped they flipped that ratio for this one and when I saw some reviewer bashing the movie by saying "you can't have a movie be nothing but a 2-hour monster UFC highlight reel" I was genuinely expecting something along those lines only to find out most of the movie was again mostly dull boring human scenes and the occasional monster fight but only for a moment before we go back to the humans.

Anyone who isnt some full retarded Nascar moron will tell you that 20 minutes of nonstop monster fighting action would get boring.
And about that cucked stupidity....getting a woman to the point were she will sleep with you , is as important and fullfilling as the fucking itself.
But i highly doubt you will ever get this pleasure.

1. Godzilla vs Destroyah
2. Invasion of the Astro Monsters
3. Godzilla 1954
4. Shin Godzilla
5. King of the Monsters (2019)

Ah the contrarian " the first one was better " bullshit

Would have liked to see him smashing the white house as trump was giving a presser. Absolute kino

To be honest that ratio of humans/monsters is still better than most Godzilla films.

>C-c-can't have cool shit go on for more than 10 minutes haha we needed shitty human exposition

Lul sure senpai. Keep spreading that meme to cope, Pacific Rim is here laughing at you

get a load of this faggot

Up From The Depths is so based, I'm sad he didn't enjoy the movie

Its mid tier.

Rodan's chase scene is better than the entirety of 2014.

Why are people shilling this movie so hard?
Does Yea Forums just love flops?

It could be way better though. I swear guys most peoples eyes and brains won't just start leaking if Godzilla's on screen for more than 40 mins total

You know the monsters can do more than fight right? You don't need most of the movie being humans to maintain interest, all you need to do is tell a story.

Here watch this, youtube.com/watch?v=ayzkiNGntd0

Is there anywhere online yet with a passable stream? My usual spots are turning up dry

it was up there with the rest of the big monster orgy films. GMK, All Out Attack, etc. I would dare say Final Wars, but let's not get too crazy. It was just a good Godzilla movie.

>>white moustache man with katana

If you go back and watch his reviews, he gives a lot of the films 3/5. Which actually isn't that great. Which is like a 60%? Not great. But he still loves the series. He does seem like he holds Godzilla to a high standard.

Attached: Screen Shot 2019-06-03 at 8.09.28 PM.png (613x894, 198K)

You cannot tell me a monkey who hurt his hand from a helicopter blade is going to win this fight

Ha, that art really sums it up. He had a look filled with such contempt when all the monsters were bowing to him at the end.

Just a bunch of pathetic, cringey weebs who think their B monster movies are serious business. The autism of Godzilla fans around here is Sonic tier and makes me embarrassed to like the franchise.

You know the rules; Mothra has to die, and she is reborn with a new egg like always

2014 is a better film. KOTM is as cringy as 98 in it's tone and characters.

>Kongfags when they realize it defies the laws of the movies
youtube.com/watch?v=3_8QaWWzL3k

TECHNICALLY, 1970s Kong wasn't fully grown yet. But yes Godzilla has no reason to lose against King Kong

>the godzilla with brodrick is available in 4k
>2014 isnt
>shin isnt

I know, but I feel bad seeing him disappointed like this.

It's been bothering me that critics have been pointing out it could have been improved without really saying how. Like, what would they have like to have seen done differently from how the movie played out? What do they think would have made for the film they were expecting to get out of this?

that's why KOTM is superior

Did you know how much of that Bear was animated ? Right. Nothing! Which not only reduces the price but it also ages just fine and under every natural light.
And due to the sheer size of Godzilla you cant go with the same natural scenes without it looking stupid or horribly forced.
The same isnt working with CGI. It was already a step forward from the first one and hopefully will continue this way.

>It's bad therefore it's good

I like the franchise too but the American godzilla movies are fucking awful.

This movie was so Fucking good Holy fuck

not even close

It's fucking godzilla, nuclear lizards aren't real and the audience knows it so I'm guessing they'll accept something goofy and/or forced if it means more godzilla in their fucking godzilla movie

All of the family scenes are fucking garbage and they take up half of the movie. I swear I was about to fall asleep during one of those scenes with the daughter. Literally who gives a FUCK

The ultimate redpill most Godzilla "fans" either refuse to take or understand is that NONE of the Godzilla movies are good and it's just the monster itself that is cool and interesting. It's not really a matter of holding it to high standards, it's simply a matter of recognizing that while the concept and the monsters are cool they come packaged in unwatchable, irrelevant garbage on the Japanese side and generic summer disaster movie fare on the American side. Anyone claiming to be a fan of any specific Godzilla movie is a sperg, it's simply the character and idea of it that people like.

do you even like Godzilla movies? aside from 2014

Less humans more monsters. Switch the ratio to like 60% kaiju and 40% human. Also make the humans interesting

it's impossible to take seriously anyone who brings up 1998

For the record, that guy rates Gojira, Destroyah, Shin, GMK, vs Mechagodzilla and Astro Monster as 4-5/5 stars. Many of the other ones are 3/5, with a few 2/5.

When it comes to characters I think people want characters like seen in GMK with the cute main girl and her dad.

SHUT THE FUCK UP THE KAIJU FIGHTS ARE KINO

nah, Godzilla 1954 and Shin Godzilla are legitimately great films.

Nah. 98 and 2014 are fucking great. KotM is ok. Better than all the Jap ones, but it basically is emulating the worst aspects of them so it definitely isn't good.

Get rid of the family, streamline Dance's character to be bigger role as the protagonist and change the backstory so his motivation isn't so retarded.

Also cut the fat off of exposition scenes to give room to rework the pacing so it builds into the action instead of front loading the action and having nowhere to build up to.

No.
But the best Monsterverse movie ever.

>I DON'T WANT TO SEE GODZILLA I WANT TO SEE THE PEOPLE AND HOW THEY REACT TO IT

This is true and I won't deny it, but then again this is 132 minutes and most Godzilla movies had the decency to clock around 90. So I liked the movie, I really liked the monster fights we got I just can't help but feel disappointed that 1. the fights weren't the focus since we kept cutting away from them and 2. so much of that runtime was spent on some painfully dull human plot I couldn't give a fuck about.

I'd take campy space alien invasion or seatopia uprising over trite dysfunctional family drama anyday. I think I'd even take dry military procedure, scientists, and government bureaucrats over what we got in this one.

>Shin Godzilla

Opinion discarded. Go back to your shitty anime porn threads, weeb.

Remove all of the family scenes.

I loved KOTM so I'm not really a "critic", but they could have broken up the human scenes with some quick montage scenes of Godzilla wrecking the shit out of the kaiju extras around the world, Final Wars-style. It was really stupid how they introduced all these new Kaiju and never used them for anything but the bowing scene at the end. This would have improved the pacing a little.

Having such a grand ending shot going right into those credits leaves you with a great impression.

If you rate the entire series as a whole it probably be a 6/10. There are several peaks but several valleys. And this is coming from a godzillafag who grew up with it. I still love it for as flawed as it is.

>great films
wew lad

Then the audience would have gotten tired and fallen into a coma from boredom if we showed the kaiju for any longer

>NONE

"No"

I've watch Godzilla since I was a kid and own several DVDs, I even still have a copy of 98. The original films work well as fun monster movies and looking back the hokey tone is more quirky than anything else. Have a big Hollywood film be hokey in a completely different way is not good.

And you had a glimpse of this with Ghidorhas heads acting differently, especially against each other. Maybe with Skull Island a a background with no modern civilization in sight we might something more of that.
But i understand why it wasnt pushed here.

The writer got the monsters really good, but all the human scenes are completely worthless. If this was more focused on the human aspect, it would be complete garbage, however, it wasn't.

The movie is really entertaining because of the monsters, but the protagonist and everybody on the MONARCH team was really joyless, except Watanabe and he was killed off. This I think is the biggest problem of the movie, past Godzilla movies had human characters that were entertaining on the merits of being cheesy or in nonsense sci-fi plots, or generally boring or neutral to good and they worked in that.
But in this one the main cast is so unlikeable, like nobody on the team really card about the monsters, the villain did in a villainous way and Watanabe in a nice way, but he got brushed off quickly.

tldr: I was an entertaining movie with really joyless characters, that needed a better script, but not more time in the movie

My top ten list

Godzilla 54
Mothra Vs Godzilla
Godzilla Vs Biollante
Godzilla Vs the Astro Monster
KotM
85
Shin Godzilla
Godzilla Vs Destoroyah
King Kong Vs Godzilla
Godzilla Vs MechaGodzilla

>have a copy of 98

>GMK

Hahahahahahahah

Anyone got that human mutos picture I've seem to lost mines. you know the one

SO FUCKING KINO

Attached: Mexico.png (500x373, 260K)

No the humans were ok you all are just being too harsh or need to watch some actual shit movies for comparison

This but also this

Beside those two, and I'd throw in 84', Godzilla movies are enjoyable because of the monster and not really the people and this is a franchise spanning problem since they never really worked out how to make Godzilla to work without the humans or a way to make the humans particularly interesting in most of these movies.

I think Ultraman does a better job most of the time because in that case whenever you're not watching Monster Fight you're watching an episode of twilight zone crossed with star trek and i think that's generally a better combo for this kind of story. Because you're watching it because you like the science patrol team solving sci-fi mysteries but you also like when the monsters end up fighting.

where is Hedorah

>It was really stupid how they introduced all these new Kaiju and never used them for anything but the bowing scene at the end. This would have improved the pacing a little.

That was the only thing that bothered me. The same way as Ghidorah beat Rodan, i would have been great to see Godzilla beating the shit out of another Monster. And i really hoped that the german Monster in Munich would stomp the fucking Allianz Arena.

this user gets it

I always thought of Rodan as the Fucking Asshole of Kaiju, the way he goes right for pecking the eyes

so it was great watching hm stunt on jet fighters with his shit-eating break-grin on his face

really stole the show for a minute

Its bad but I was a kid when it was out so of course I had to have. I at least have grown up enough to recognize when I am being succumbed to the same bullshit with KOTM. The action and spectacle doesn't hide it.

>You post this bait about Mothra being male in every Thread

What are you even talking about? I've never even posted this "bait" before. I only come here on Yea Forums when /fit/ is slow. Are you okay? Why are you so irrationally angry.

>Get a fucking life

Kettle meet pot. Go get some fresh air dork.

>We call it Ghidorah
>Did someone say gonorrhea?
Everything with the humans is fucking ass cancer.

Attached: 1538149437132.jpg (756x499, 51K)

remove the entire retarded "mom wants to balance the world by killing billions of people with sound device" subplot and just make it about ghidorah waking up and wanting to take over the earth. Remove the subplot about killing godzilla and then wasting time having to revive him. A good chunk of the human shit is garbage and unneded. Also get new writers so the script isn't complete unfunny trash.

This. You really had the feeling of him being a backstabbing asshole which also gave him a special Godzilla glare at the end.

some crazier super science or maybe mothra twins supernatural stuff might've helped, too much michael bay tier military stuff, just watching tanks drive around in shin was more interesting

>females
>stingers

Ummm.... you do realize females in any specimen devote all their energy to reproduction, right? You can't be this dumb.

Wait. Zilla vs. Kong will be released in just 9 months?

all "kaiju" movies are bad. shin and 54 belong in a different category. just enjoy the fireworks man

It was really bad, none of the characters were really invested in the monsters and the protagonist plot was completely independent of what the monsters were doing. After Watanabe dies who was the only one that cared, I could not handle the fat guy's quips, the military girl's grunts and the attourney's bumbling, in the final fights vs king gheedora, I really was hoping they would all get killed by accident or something I was sick of them.

Godzilla standalone films = Great
Godzilla fighting against other kaijus flicks = Fun

Man up and see it alone Godzilla needs you.

Attached: rodanusa.gif (393x281, 1.23M)

I heard they focused too much on the human trash characters again, and cut away from hte fights all the time, again. Really destroyed my hype

Keep the mom wanting balance subplot and waking up King Ghidorah and remove the rest of the human scenes then the movie will be perfect

>Literally on the same level of writing as any other hollywood tentpole movie.
You're kidding yourself.

Yes it's going to be no time at all

>116087029

You get 30 mins of monster fights though

based and redpilled

As a Godzillafag I feel the series doesn't deserve anything higher than a 7/10 if you factor all 35 movies together. That's just me though, how about the rest of the Godzilla bros. here that grew up with the series. Try to ignore nostalgia. Even with only a 7/10, I still adore this series and go back to watching the silliness of it all, while also enjoying the more serious films.

Attached: dance.gif (500x500, 423K)

I felt disgusted by that joke, it was so.. so... I guess the word I'm looking for is 'irreverent'. That's fucking King Ghidorah, he's probably one of he best known Kaiju in the entire franchise. Not a single person in my entire theater laughed at this and it made me happy to know I wasn't the only one who didn't find it funny. I felt the urge to slap whoever put that like in to the movie because you just know they thought it was hilarious.

you're probably baiting me, but almost every hive insect you see (ants, wasps, bees etc) are non-reproductive females

males are in the minority in the hive and are only used to for giving their sperm to the queen before they die

I haven't seen the movie yet but I keep hearing one of the Ghidorah heads is retarded. Is that true?

Attached: Rodan.jpg (960x786, 106K)

I wish we were all like you

The way he looks like he wants to start shit but immediately backs down and kneels like a bitch when Goji roars was so fucking great

No, make a better human story but keep the ratios the same. How about a team of biologist trying to understand monster behavior instead of muh daughter

Attached: 1559353258389.jpg (1280x722, 100K)

What do you mean? The films don't hold up for you?

Fucking loved how they tied the myth of the hydra to him.

Yes, the left head is afflicted with assburgers. This is why Ghidorah lost.

Yes. Unironically yes.

This must be the worst attempt of bait in this thread but i go for it...

You Retard realize that for example Wasp and Bee " princesses " kill their rivals with their Stinger and for that only the Bee Princesses have no barbed Stinger, so they can do it endlessly.

Okay I'm going to need more context than that. Is it like painfully obvious and played for laughs or are people just memeing?

>No, make a better human story but keep the ratios the same.
Egh, I think you can do 70% monsters 30% people. The monsters are expressive, you only need so much exposition to explain the monster conflict and I think that's all the humans need to be their for. I want to see the monster friendships, I'm more interested in their adventures and interactions than I am the human interactions. You don't need to have non-stop fights.

It wasn't ok, it was bad. Maybe not the worst, but is really jarring that the protagonist or the team dont really care about the main selling point of the movie.

I prefer low budgets zilla films tbqh

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
youtube.com/watch?v=-usFeWJ94Ak

It's mainly subtle and it's more to show each head has its own personality.

Yeah, they definitely teased the twins part of the story and I was happy with that, but the human characters really need to be as interesting or extravagant as the mosters.

The human audience can absolutely not empathize with kaiju. They'd get confused and bored without a human anchoring them for most the movie

The moment the head grew again, i just waited for someone at Monarch to confirm it later. Also his relation to Marduk and the Chaos Monster from the Babylonian gods.

They give Ghidorah's heads distinctive personalities, they bicker at each other sometimes and have slightly different reactions. It's not really in your face, just a small, nice detail about him.

Fuck subtlety the human characters should have hammed it up and chewed the fuck outta the scenery. Make the dad Macho man or something

He was almost in it according to the artbook. I assume the new Muto replaced him.

Attached: gigan.jpg (714x1200, 105K)

I guess I'm not getting weird Shota human mutos picture

Kumonga was replaced with Scylla, and Gamera was going to appear but was replaced by Methuselah. Hope they do appear eventually.

Attached: gamera.jpg (651x998, 59K)

I enjoy the series but the movies are not very good. They're just B movies that I've loved for as long as I can remember. Godzilla 1954 is the only one I would reasonably consider a great film and only because of what it was and the time it came out.

In Australia maybe

It would be interesting seeing something like that, however maybe the scale of this monsters makes it really dificult. Maybe in some post apocalyptic world where humans and monsters coexists you could see something like that. Actually thinking about it, the way that they explored monster biology with the mutos in the first movie was really good.

>1. Godzilla vs. Biollante

hell yes dude, movie is CRIMINALLY underrated, that Biolante puppet was insanely good, the best practical effects in the whole franchise

Attached: godzilla size.jpg (2048x628, 634K)

More like the dude in final wars. Mecha-Godzilla when?

I don't think so, if you show Kaiju in pain, struggling, agony, people will empathize with them almost immediately. Hell audiences empathize with animals far easier than they do with other humans most of the time.

youtube.com/watch?v=0Dtz2b16xFY people care way more for Anguirus in this scene than they do for any of the human characters in this movie. Go look through these threads, people talk and care about the monsters.

>Gamera was going to appear

You mean we fucking ALMOST got our Godzilla vs Gamera at long last??? fuck

It was a modern day Showa plot. I don’t get why people bitched

Most of the kaijus aren't mammals though so....

I wonder if most people that love this series realize this here? You can love something but know the quality varies widely. With some being high peaks, and others being very low valleys.

I would have rather had Godzilla vs Gamera than Godzilla vs King Kong 2

Can I talk for a second??
The 2012 comic con trailer, as well as the screaming Cranston ones made it seem that Godzilla would be a primary foe, like 1984, just with another monster. Why go for the hero route with the sinister advertising

Attached: 752C9C66-CDC7-4943-9FA1-ECB6E3C4CA32.gif (500x358, 1.02M)

Do they need to be mammals for you?

Watch youtube.com/watch?v=Rv9hn4IGofM and tell me you aren't invested

I never had any doubt about the overall quality of that movie franchise. I grew up with it as a kid and lost interest after a certain time but the new movies brought me back. While i still dont care about stuff like Shin Godzilla. Its excactly the contrary, all these posts, several scenes and threads about that movie, just supported me in my decision to not watch it.

>Kumonga was replaced with Scylla, and Gamera was going to appear but was replaced by Methuselah.
Source?

I mean, is Godzilla really that heroic? He destroys Hawaii and San Francisco while battling other monsters. He killed thousands. Just because he destroyed a potentially greater threat to humanity didn't negate his own dangers to humanity. KotM even begins on this very note in that Godzilla's fight killed the main characters' son so they hate him.

sounds like he’s the one with taste

Because this is a route that will come up next.
That whole " I am glad that he is on our Side. "... " For now... " sentence was forshadowing with a Hammer.

OH NO NO NO NO NO NO

Attached: kingvsgod.png (800x473, 854K)

So you refuse to watch the movie because other people tell you it's good?

The humans were really bad

I think some people probably deny it. They think that just because they like something it must be good by all means. Godzilla will always be one of my favorite series, but it has its flaws.

How? Because some made jokes? At least some of them had character development, like the dad

He doesn't really gives a shit about humans, he's more invested in defeating rogue kaiju. And even if he did, at his size, his presence would cause collateral damage whether he wanted or not. It's not like he went out of his way to destroy those cities.

RIP Shin, for one single meter lmao

Attached: 188977852.jpg (1242x600, 115K)

No i dont refuse anything, my interest wasnt just aroused by some weebs posting the same shit over and over again.

I was fueled with a rage boner every time the mom showed up. She was the absolute worse. the fact that she made her own daughter complicit in mass genocide was what got me the most.

That scene in San Fransisco should've the feel of the rest of 2014.
At least Shin kinda fills that “destructive force of nature” tone

I'd rather they didn't get any and weren't there at all. That family didn't need to be there if you cut them out the movie would be better for it. Monarch vs Eco-terrorist was more than enough human plot for this movie.

Pretty much. All Godzilla movies have shitty human elements except for the original and maybe Shin.

How very contrarian of you bro. You're so cool hating just things because other people like them.

>Took dad to see it
>Said it was too loud, wanted the mom to survive for some reason.
>Liked it better than Pacific Rim

You stupid old fool, I love you.

Those jokes were really bad and hammy, and the dad didn't have any development at all, he never learns to appreciate his daughter. He just did mindless things that were in the script for no reason. Like Serizawa reproaches him after seemingly killing Godzilla and he doesn't feel remorse or happiness, he's really bland and detracting of the overall experience.

I'd love to see that very much. I wonder if when the movie comes out in bluray somebody could re-edit it to remove such scenes.

>that reading comprehension

Are you an Autist or why dont you get the general difference between hating something and simply not being interested in it ?

We get it bro, you hate things other people like and you think it makes you cool. Calm down no need to get all bent out of shape about it.

My pop fell asleep during the period of time between Godzilla getting hit by the Oxygen Destroyer, to when get got revived. He still have the movie a 7 though.

Your dad fell in love with Vera Farmiga

Attached: D59bzHTUYAA2nyo.jpg (785x1200, 173K)

remember that part where Godzilla is quietly tearing Hedora limb from limb and literally eating his insides

and then Hedora reverts to old form, flies away and that fucking scene happens

you know the one

Some say GMK had a good human plot.

basically my mindset for the movie

it had amazing kaiu fights and a shitty human plot

so like 90% of Godzillerz

Godzilla vs Cthulhu when?
