I honestly never thought this would happen, but it did for me. I walked out thinking that I actually liked the first one more. I feel like they totally abandoned the tone that the original set. This movie felt like capeshit.

Contrarians and people who only think spectacle is okay when Marvel(tm) does it.

It is better.

Stupid human drama good big monster fight bad

pretty much
example

Contrarianism

It is actually paced better than KOTM.

I always loved Godzilla toys and vidya and still love some of the old kino vidya but, these movies are shit and I see your shilling on those generals. First Captain Marvel then Alita now this. Most people here don't even go to the kinoplex anymore and just torrent or watch at home you boring ass shills. Bet you barely get paid too.

KotM had
>Better human characters
>More interesting human drama
>More monsters
>Less realistic designs and scenes
>More Godzilla
So of course it's the worse film

>Better human characters
>More interesting human drama
both were equally shit in this but the last three points i agree with, and that's all you really need.

>Better human characters
>More interesting human drama
I don't think so, I'd say they're both about the same level of garbage.

Granted the monster parts were better when we got to see them but they kept cutting away like we give a shit about these boring character and their boring family drama.

The scale in this poster is stupid, godzilla looks half that size in the actual movie

Well I’ve had sex since that one came out.

Only the last half an hour was good but I felt like killing myself during the first two.
Also Cranston was the worst thing about it.

FPBP
The new one had great action and funner monsters, but it was baseless. In 2014 it felt like they really cared.

Have you seen the noriyoshi ohrai posters you retarded fucking faggot?

They're really hard to compare when they're both completely different tones. It's like comparing Godzilla 1985 to Godzilla vs. Megaguirus.

I think one reviewer was somewhat on the money when he stated that the 2014 movie made you "earn" the fight at the end and I think he was right. Now I did enjoy KotM and I'm going to see it again tomorrow. There is no doubt that I enjoy every Godzilla movie I have ever seen, even the 1998 version I liked.
Thing is to me KotM felt more like "Godzilla's Revenge" more than anything else. It was fun, it was great to see the creatures clash, but it did not feel as though there was any "weight" to it at all. Say what you will about the 2014 version but scaling it back to the point where you were the people looking up at the destruction had a bit of tenseness to it and weight. Seeing random soldiers get vaporized by lightning bolts was empty to me.

2014 one was a pretty good flick, had they done one or two fewer of those cutaway teases then people wouldnt be bitching so much about it

I felt the weight in KOTM when Rodan is destroying the fighter pilots as they race towards Ghidorah and you see their names going red on the computer monitor. I thought this was pretty efffective at showing the incredible rate at which lives are being lost in this movie, and it smartly avoids a bunch of weighty/explanatory dialogue because so much other shit is going on and the adrenaline is pumping.

>I feel like they totally abandoned the tone that the original set
That's what normally happens with Godzilla reboots. The first takes itself seriously and the rest relax a bit and leave room for more lighthearted and wacky stuff. Same thing happened with the Heisei series

I wouldn't have it any other way. 2014 was too grimdark to properly build a franchise on

How is it a contrarian opinion when the majority of people agree with it?

I'm seeing the poster in the op and it's way off scale

>majority of people agree with it
Citation needed
KOTM has a higher audience rating by nearly 30% on RT

KotM is a better movie but:
>there is no good sense of weight or scale, which is something that the most recent big kaiju films all manged (Godzilla '14, Kong, Pacific Rim)
>Rodan vs Mothra fight was 90% off screen
>while not all humans are bad, the humans that are bad are worse than those in '14
>several weak tropes ("clueless military gets interrupted and corrected" and "drawn-out suspense scene when everyone knows they'll get saved at the last second") are bad to begin with and even worse when repeated 3, 4, 5+ times in a single film
But a lot of people are just contrarians. KotM is a solid film as far as the genre goes.

I was trying to think about why I didn't enjoy the movie as much as I though I would and I agree with you.
I did feel like there wasn't too much weight or stakes to it. I liked the grisly, edgy bear-like design of 2014 Godzilla a bit better too but it's a minor complaint. I wanted to see heavy fights, each hit bearing a lot of consequence. I don't mind the short time we see the monsters but you might as well make every punch or bite count. I remember loving the way Godzilla smashed his tail against the male Muto in '14, it felt fucking heavy, you could feel the little guy getting crushed.
That is what was missing for me.
An otherwise enjoyable movie.

A shame we didn't get to see more of Rodan and of the new 17 titans too.

>I feel like they totally abandoned the tone that the original set.
Because the first was all mystery and build up to establish the Kaiju. You can't just keep doing that and expect people to care.

Yeah no. Audience score is good, YT critics are getting disagreed with in their comment sections. It’s clearly an organised attack from certain parties within the industry.

It had Brian Kranston in it for like 10 minutes, so NPCs automatically assume it's kino.

2014 didnt even have the Godzilla theme. It's such an iconic theme that it makes the film better. The lack of that alone makes it shitty. KOTM used it and it was fantastic

end your life tonight

>majority

Pacific Rim's best western kaiju movie so far.

As a Godzilla fan, the bashing KOTM is receiving from critics honestly baffles me. I think its because most people have only seen the american Godzilla movies and haven't seen any of the japanese ones. They don't know who King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan are and how iconic these monsters are. They didn't catch all the little references and easter eggs from the older movies (the twins, the oxigen destroyer, the classic music and sound effects, the lore) and the overall tone of the movie feels like the old Godzilla movies with all the scifi bullshit, monsters from space and the post credits scenes alluring to many other classic monsters. This movie is pretty much impossible to appreciate if you didn't watched the old movies. Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted to see King Ghidorah in the big screen in all his glory and this movie respected him so much that it's almost impossible for me to hate this movie.

Basically this, the Japs do the same thing every time. It's tradition. Bring on the weird shit. You guys think Godzilla vs. King fucking Kong won't be wacky as shit? Prepare your anuses.

This desu.

once in a blue moon it happens, weight of the jaegers reminded me of Big O.

My Goji-bros.

No. You're just a retard with pathetic taste. This movie is far better than the shitty old Japanese movies, but that isn't saying anything since they were all schlock. Compared to 2014 though, this shit is an embarrassment. That movie was pure kino and soul. This is a soulless flick for idiots.

>thinks 2014 is superior
>calls others idiots
Contradictory post

>my little user should not be this retarded desu

t. Ghidorah's left head

kek

Reminder that the left head is the one that Godzilla bit off early on in the film and the one the terrorists have a hold of

>yfw Mecha Ghidorah gains tard strength and that's how he ups the ante compared to regular Ghidorah

>the one the terrorists have a hold of
wait what
is this an after-credits scene or something

KOTM was better in so many ways but the use of Ifukube score alone puts it so far ahead. The money shots of Godzilla emerging from the water after getting juiced and arriving at Fenway were so glorious

Attached: Capture1.png (401x378, 112K)

>yfw he just ends up wanting to be friends and is sad his middle head isn't smart

YOU DIDN'T KNOW?

When Godzilla first used his atomic breath in 2014, it was hype af. I felt like KoTM didn't have that card to play, and didn't replace it with any other hype moments. So it felt pretty by the books.
Ultimately I thought they were both fairly average.

You're flat out retarded if Godzilla re-emerging from the water or arriving to fight Ghidrah in Boston with the Ifukube score blasting weren't hype to you

How the FUCK can people say 2014 was better.
Dat
>mothra waterfall scene
>mothra descending to where zilla is
>atlantis
>sarozawa sacrifice
>any time king ghydora is on screen
>those fights, love how japanese in aesthetic the first fight in antarctica feels
>burning godzilla
>biting off one head
>anything with rodans intro scene/fight/aerial combat
>the ending stand vs bowing rodan getting a look

FUCK YOU (((CRITICS)))

Attached: 1559250466937.jpg (850x1006, 184K)

>Godzilla re-emerging from the water
Predictable

>arriving to fight Ghidrah in Boston with the Ifukube score blasting weren't hype to you
I already knew the score was in the movie, I'll admit I might have ruined it for myself trying to see if the Fairy Summoning song made it into the OST.

>didn't replace it with any other hype moments

What about Mothra's first full emergence?

Mothra arriving

Any scenes with Mothra was good enough for me. That's all I cared about and then Ghidorah holy fuck they did him well. Loved how the heads somewhat acted differently.

I've seen Mothra come out of her egg a thousand times, I'll admit it was pretty well shot, but it didn't get to me in any meaningful way.

To the fight? Was literally in the trailer. It's hard to be hype for "hey it's the trailer shot!"]

Rodan came out of this looking like a bitch. One poke from Mothra and hes down. Then he bows at the end. What a putz kek.

no I left after the credits with the pictures and the maps ended

At least the still ruined a city flying overhead, I thought they might tone him down. Glad I was wrong.

glad I didn't watch a single trailer like some fucking pleb or read the ost tracks. trailers ruin everything nowadays

I am only just learning now about critics bitching about it. Baffles me desu.

A San Fran Cronicle """"critic"""" blasted it for not pushing a blatant political message lmao.

desu ruining stuff for yourself these days could be called Due Diligence withthe state pop culture's in.

not really. i don't need a trailer to know i want to see what legendary did with these characters. 90% of movies I know if ill see or not based on premise/production info, trailers spoil the story of everything these days

This thread reeks of weeb incels. Godzilla 2014 is a great film, King of the Monsters is cringeworthy.

>describes all this movie's problems
>"it's a solid film"

Attached: 1521743694314.png (1228x1150, 191K)

You can't deny the kino aesthetic in this film

>The Godzilla movie with no Godzilla in it and a plot about a generic white guy trying to get back to his son and wife which have zero character of their own is good

I'm pumped to see KOTM. Fuck knows when it will be though

>all good scenes from the trailer
>the rest of the movie is boring as shit
Yep, I got tricked again..

You can be critical of a film and still enjoy it, user. Merits and faults aren't mutually exclusive.

Attached: Monsterverse kaiju.png (2800x1001, 3.5M)

I don't get it either, my friend is saying the same thing even though he knows 2014 had way fewer monster scenes and worse human scenes.
