God so many people I know from university talk to me about how they miss it and wish they could go back. I had fun but i remember all the fucking essays and shit too. If you don't have to work a part time job during the school year and just horde money over the summer and winter break w/ your parents helping you out, college is the easiest stretch of your life since the preschool years. At 19 credits, which is considered to be the high end, you're looking of at most 3 hours of classes most days. You live in a little dinky place but so does everyone else, there's no expectation for you to live in some nice house. Now imagine if you have an active social life on top of this. Frankly I don't understand how more college kids don't just commit suicide when they have to transition to a 9-5 because of how shit everything becomes in comparison, speaking as a nofriends college student right now who wants to blow his brains out working a full time internship over the summer.

Entirely depends on the university. It can be really comfy. I was fortunate to go to a big established and really pretty campus. I went to maybe two crazy parties in my four years but more enjoyable was being able to walk around the quads safely day or night and just have access to a bunch of different things to get involved in. There was a coffee house that opened at midnight and was really chill for a 20 year old me to go to and just relax with other quiet but nice people.
The majority of people that truly try to turn it into Animal House drop out second year. I guess if they had fun no judgement then, but you can still have a good time without having to be TOO social.

Partying gets boring really fast. Every weekend I was getting shit faced my first year of college, but you can only wake up miserable and sick for so long until the feeling of unaccomplishment sets in. When summer rolled around, I felt a lot more happy and fulfilled knowing I did well in my math courses and understood the material better than most. Compared to knowing I got laid a few times and had a few hours of fun while drunk.

Theres a stigma for it because college is more about a life style than it is about the education aspect. If you are an older person going to college for the first time and just take the classes and go on with your day, most people will not judge. I never understood why people believe getting shit faced constantly is an essential youth experience. I partied a lot in HS and early college, and it certainly is not my fondest memory of being young. The feeling of freedom and invincibility it gives is completely shallow. Depends on where you go to, I went to a college town in San Marcos out here in Tx, and if you wanted to it could every bit as wild as the movies show.

Summers or vacations in college are a lot more chill if you live in your town year round. Just a bunch of kids bored with nothing to do now that classes and parties are over till next semester so you just sit around, play vidya, and shoot the shit. Having a social life and majoring in STEM is doable. You just need to work on time management. There were a few weekends where I had to stay in and study instead of going out but most of the time I was able to get all my work done during the week so I could enjoy the weekend.

College was basically boys in dorm rooms playing Halo and girls watching Nicholas Sparks movies. There was always time for the bar but it isn't much fun listening to the "sweat drip from my balls" at 11 volume.

I majored in history. Do my history craft professional. Got to write a couple books and continue to do all sorts of history related projects in the community and with museums. I'm not a millionaire but part of a shrinking middle class. Paid off my student loans, own a home, got the girl in the end and a dog too.

The only real issue is the baby boomers don't take me seriously but do they really take any of us seriously?

I was a pretty bad kid in HS, spent most of my time shitfaced and partying. Kicked out of athletics, been suspended, even spent a week in county. But by senior year I had learned all my lessons. When I got to college I was plenty prepared and had built up enough self control to be in the library the weekend before test week instead of the bars. Ended up graduating w/ a near 4.0 and RN job at the hospital.

Saw a lot of good kids take your route b/c they had never experienced that kind of stuff and got sucked in to it. You gotta have self discipline in college because you really can just waste away and party/do drugs 24/7.

Barely anyone at any university gives a fuck about political correctness. Its a facade put on by the universities as a marketing ploy to get admission rates up while handing out worthless degrees.

I think about my future, which is a black hole I can't conceive of beyond what I mentioned above, a lot more now that I'm so close to 30. The years just melt together into nothing. I don't have the physical capacity or even more importantly the mental capability to cut it with roughnecks in some trade job if I even by some means get hired. I have no ambition or desire to do anything career wise and I never have. The over-saturated piss-ant career tech support market would be my only "easy" hope to "aim" for and I think it would just mean coming home and not even wanting to look at a computer screen. I don't want to get a GED. I definitely don't fucking ever want to set a foot in a college, the thought makes me sick to my stomach. And while at 18 I could have gotten some autism crippling social anxiety and depression panic attack BUX I'd have to really bullshit my way through any testing nowadays, even though I'm still an emotional cripple in a lot of ways.

This, I just worked during the week and partied on the weekend. If test week was upcoming I might wake up early saturday to hit the library. Sure I might not be able to go out to dollar dos equis night on tuesday but I never allowed studying to get in the way of my social life.

The thing about STEM is this, you may have a lot to study, but you can study when you want. You're basically making your own hours, so you should be able to schedule your study time to allow you to have an ample social life. Just be consistent, and efficient during your allocated study time.

One of my best buds went to a HS down here that was basically a ivy league prep factory. He scored a 2150 on his SAT. Still working on that film degree and by god I wish him the best. He's a lazy fuck.

My first year in college I moved into the dorms a few weeks early, before basically anyone else. One of my roommates also moved in a few days later as well as a couple of our neighbors. Was possibly the most comfy few weeks ever with a handful of us having the dorm and practically the whole campus to ourselves. I remember we ran around outside and played in puddles during a rain storm one night while drinking and tried to have a water balloon fight.

Yes and no. I went to a largely commuter school, so most kids lived with their parents. Some of the older kids who owned or rented their own places would throw parties, though, and those would be fairly wild.
