Is it ACTUALLY a GOOD movie? Should I watch it?
SHIN GODZILLA
Yeah it's good. Expect a lot of human drama though and literally zero fights between two monsters.
If you had a hard time watching KotM this one definitely won't be for you
80% of the movie is walls of text dialogue
This. But Shin's rage scene makes up for it.
Yea Forums was listerally just trying to convince me this one had twice as much Godzilla as KotM. What the fuck
It was interesting but more inspired by Dr. Strangelove than any kaiju movie and I'm not really learned enough about the history of Japan to know how to feel about the political commentary constantly being shoved down my throat.
It's made for Japanese people, who have grown up in Japanese culture, influenced by 50 years of Japanese cinematic influence.
Are you Japanese?
Godzilla is in literally every scene, the movie is about the government dealing with Godzilla and amerisharts die if they read subtitles.
Not sure about that, but no Godzilla has a lot of Godzilla and that's the point. The less you see him the more effective his presence is.
Don't listen to Yea Forums on any topic ever
I went into it ready to see Godzilla smash some buildings and came out of it thinking Japan should be a global superpower and a powerhouse military force despite the fact that the last time they were one they killed my grandpa so I don't know what to think.
Listen to this guy. The film is more of a satire of Japanese politics and their response to the tsunami, which is a bit esoteric for the rest of the world, plus it is in my opinion boring as all shit. The costumes and prosthetics are very cheesy looking and Godzilla himself is borderline animated in stop motion. Plus the English dialogue (what little there is of it) is so hilariously poor (and spoken by Americans, mind you) that I'm amazed Anno didn't at least try to get someone to edit it.
I'm American, don't speak Japanese nor do I know shit about politics in Japan. And I love this movie. You just can't be a closeminded brainlet, otherwise this movie is challenging.
Unironically this, despite having to believe it.
I loved KotM for the monster fight and cool human characters,is this film as good as KotM? I think KotM is 9/10
They are very very very different kinds of movies
>cool human characters
>King of the Monsters
On what fucking planet?
>samefag
>The less you see him the more effective his presence is
???
It's an alright movie and you'll like it more if you like what they are trying to do with it: it's a disaster movie with satire about post-war Japanese governance and a spooky force-of-nature Godzilla with Evangelion aspects.
Hitchcock horror is an example of this. It prevents oversaturation.
KotM has better human drama than any other Godzilla movie
Yea a Hitchcockian approach to a Japanese rubber suit political / environmental disaster monster movie is absolutely appropriate. You fucking retard.
>human drama
KotM's human drama is why it's getting low critic scores. The acting dialogue were awful, even for a Godzilla movie.
No faggot, the dialogue was amazing. Kys disneyshill
Go back to your John Wick movies, genius.
OP, I was never a fan of Godzilla but I LOVE Shin because it treats it like a natural disaster with almost docudrama realism. It reminds me of Steven Soderbergh's Contagion which is similar in style with people dealing with a large scale crisis!!!FACT!!!
>sequel with King Ghidorah never ever
WHY EVEN LIVE?
Gamera 2016 is better
One of the worst films ever, can'tbelieve you fags like it. The cgi looks like ass and human are shit. Bad acting and dialogue and english was awful. 1/10
Get it hit into oblivion
kek
Imagine Shin Godzilla going this much over your head
The dialog was passable, but the plot was actually great
fucking hated the new godzilla, shin was way better. But only because i like action scenes that involve paperwork.
Anno had a breakdown making Eva 3.0 and went onto to make this as a break.
>Imagine Shin Godzilla going this much over your head
Like the nigger cum that flies over your Mom's skull on a daily basis!!!FACT!!
tfw you use a different browser without your filters and you actually have to see these retards post
>tfw you use a different browser without your filters and you actually have to see these retards post
How much (human) semen do you ingest on a daily basis because I'm guessing it's a lot?!?FACT!!!
Shit film
This and the original 1950s movie are for smart people, and is not popcorn turn off your brain entertainment.
and it's great
It’s interesting but flawed. Top tier Godzilla film
>50s film
>smart
Hahahahahahahaahahaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahhahaaha
I think it's better than the american one from around the same time. But that's hardly an accomplishment.
I outright hate Disney to its core and even though I thought critics were probably talking shit, the human parts were literally the worst part of the movie (can't compare it to the Japanese movies though). Even in the German dub, the dialogues were horrible and cringy most of the time. Enjoyable movie though and definitely worth seeing
>DUDE BUREAUCRACY BAD
There I saved you 2 hours of Chinks talking
Yes, it is good. But it's a very weird take on Godzilla.
It's boring as hell. Even the 98 zilla movie was more entertaining.
Shit taste
It's funny how plebs here like to oversimplify literally every good movie out there. Shin Godzilla was a great movie aiming at a halfway realistic portrayal of what it would be like if a monster started fucking shit up. imo, Anno succeeded doing that. Why offer another mainstream take on the matter if you can do something new? Hell, I still love Cloverfield because it tried to revitalise the kaiju formula a little bit instead of doing the usual approach
This, plus i don't get why people criticize the second part of shin as if it was awful.
Name one better
>it's different therefore it's good
People like you need to be put down
No. It's not remotely interesting and is written by a genuinely autistic man.
if the dialogues, the premise, and the execution is good, yes, then it's good. are you honestly saying that the execution was outright bad? I can understand it not being to your liking but objectively speaking, the movie was well made
>burgers are so fucking retarded that if the President does not grab a machinegun to nuke dem fuckin kaijus back to mexico, it's too japanese for them
And I wonder why capeshit infests this shithole.
I loved it. It’s basically the original Godzilla movie remade for modern Japan.
Of course Americans will disregard it as “durrrrr peole just talk durrrrr” because they don’t like what Godzilla originally was. They prefer monsters fighting other monsters, there’s nothing wrong with that but that doesn’t detract from Shin.
If you like the original Godzilla, you’ll like this. If you prefer the normal Godzilla vs X experience, you may not like it.
Its Mcdonalds arthouse
>remade
I wouldn't go that far, mate. The original has way too many fantasy/sci-fi elements to be on the same level of realism as Shin Godzilla (except for the ending). Also, the politics in Shin were meant to represent a way more realistic approach to the matter so I'm not sure that everyone who likes the original would like this.
Compared to just McDonalds?
It's a great movie. Watch it
>weebs are so retarded they can watch wooden acting and shit dialogue and pretend it's good because it comes from the mystical far east
No wonder you're all virgins
But user, I hate anime.
I don’t see how Shin relates to anime except one mutual director.
Meant to reply to
I've decided Yea Forums is just filled with brainless. Shin Godzilla is great. Watch it.
Well obviously. Remember this is the board that worships capeshit and Game of Thrones
Everything leading up to the night attack is great, everything after that was dull and too convenient.
>I've decided Yea Forums is just filled with brainless
took you long enough to realise that. I thought the countless company war, bait, and whining threads would have made you see it sooner
Shin is awesome, I think the political critique filters out the plebs.
It’s cool. Would’ve been better as an OC daikaiju so that Anno could get truly retarded with weird shit, though
which is like 95% of this board. most people here can't handle dialogue-driven movies at all and only want comedy and sfx. just look at how many people here love that literal turd Thor Ragnarok. to provide another capeshit example, most people here were literally complaining about story elements in Man of Steel even though they were literally explained in detail in the movie itself (for example why Supes killed Zod). People here only want basic shit which makes them mad everytime they get served something special
based pseudo-intellectual retards
its evangalion but kaiju
Do you really believe watching nips talking for two hours making the point of bureaucracy bad makes you smart? People here just see through the pretentiousness, you are still stuck in your contrarian 'I'm so friggin superior' phase. Grow up
I JUST FRICKIN LOVE GAME OF THROOOOOOOOOOONES
>japanese in meetings: the movie
seething
evangelion is kaiju
Talking good, monster bad
>made up female character saves the day: the show
You literally have no right to judge anyone if you think Chernobyl is “kino”
Shit film,pollitical garbage too
On the other hand, the German dialogue was quite good
t. German
If you liked the NERV control center scenes in EVA you’ll like it. The soundtrack even copies Evangelion at some points.
Yeah, I was impressed at how authentic it sounded as an American who took German a little and saw a movie once or twice. It felt more natural than the English dialogue.
I hope they were just weirdo nerd Godzilla fans who got lucky and appeared in the movie, desu. Would be cute.
Shin Rodan?
No because most of the cast is minorities and there are only a few white people in it.
I literally watched it last night. It's fucking boring. Watch Final Wars instead.
It’s Eva without the Evas
I like how the only time the film breaks its pace is to slow things down for the monster scenes. That's a cool inversion.
all I remember is the jap girl that speaks english and the lazor scene
dont even remeber the plot but just for those 2 things I'd say yes
>dont even remeber the plot
godzilla happens
boomers are inefficient
not-the-fukushima-guy slowly works on his coolant plan
boomers get murdered
america threatens to nuke
not-the-fukushima-guy enacts his coolant plan
Very cool movie, and there are some epic scenes with Godzilla and a nice opera soundtrack
Retard
Am i the only one that noticed the tone change dramatically after godzilla used his atomic breath like at first the editing and dialogue felt more comedic and the second half feels like the parts of the original where the characters are debating the ethics of using the oxygen destroyer
KINO
