Who fucking knows. This scene was likely one from one of the many scripts that were rejected and/or rewritten while the movie as being filmed and whatever it was that killed them was written out and nobody realized they left a massive plot hole.
-it's NOT the Spinosaurus because it wouldn't be out in the ocean and it can't have half its body out of the water without something to stand on or keep up with a speedboat
-it's NOT the Pteranodons because they're locked in the cage
-if it's a sea reptile then why hasn't it shown up eating swimmers and other boats in the World films?

Its not brought up in the movies but it is in the books. You can also look at it with him falling down a steep hill and being disorientated from that combined with a group of them attacking at once made it hard for him to fight them off.
