Is Godzilla Heisei the best era?
Justin Brooks
Isaiah Bailey
Yes, but god says
Liam Roberts
I prefer Showa
Angel Scott
This
Dylan Davis
Yes.
Owen Moore
The opposite. Easily the worst era. Nothing but beam fights and static looking monsters.
Posters were based though.
Zachary Davis
Biollante is the best godzilla movie though, fuck you.
Juan Lee
Wrong, best one is the first Mechagodzilla
Jaxson Ramirez
The Biollante vs Godzilla fight was shit though.
Hudson Smith
Shin, GMK, Shodai all easily outrank it, and I would personally consider several other films better than it.
Zachary Edwards
Early showa, 1954-64 is the most entertaining while also being the most consistent in quality(relative to the time, obviously). Then Showa starts getting reeeeeaaallly bad, and is where most of the series' bad reputation comes from, cheap city sets, deteriorating suits, terrible plots, etc. It does finish strongly with the Mechagodzilla movies, however.
Heisei starts off strong with G84 and vs Biollante then starts slowly but surely declining, before finishing somewhat strongly on Destroyah.
Millennium is very hit or miss, G2K is alright, Megaguirus is genuinely terrible, GMK is great, Against Mechag is solid, Tokyo SOS is mediocre, Final Wars is turn your brain off but fun.
Jaxson Wood
Jackson Bennett
Bulshit, i loved the visceral quality of it and the fucking gore too, back of Biollante's skull being blown the fuck out anyone?
Owen Campbell
Showa is my personal favorite
Chase Foster
Godzilla 2000 is way better
Luke Perez
If Showa skipped right from DAM to Vs.Mechagodzilla and cut out Godzilla's Revenge, would that make it the best era unarguably?
Oliver Long
Easily the best suits. Beam spam gets old though.
Kayden Edwards
>tfw Showa era Godzilla's goofy antics actually make him an interesting opponent in vsbattles
Justin Martinez
Biollante easily has the best visual effects in the entire series. Models, suits, animation, pyrotechnics, are head and shoulders above anything else in the series.
Lucas Foster
Yeah, but then we wouldn't have jet jaguar
Blake Peterson
The biogoji you mean, after the original was stolen and dumped into a river once the thieves realized it ain't something you can pawn off, the cheap bootlegs Toho produced got worse with every iteration.
Gone were the great animatronics and craftsmanship, and in were the flabby suits and mediocre craftsmanship.
That's because people involved cared, and the series wasn't yet butchered by the annual release cycle, so the movie had time to properly develop, before the constant, uninterrupted crunch time of which pushed Kawakita into crippling alcoholism consumed the series, for fucks sake.
Jaxon Gutierrez
Too bad you only see it for about three minutes. Oh, and the fight is still just Godzilla slowly lumbering toward Biollante, with them exchanging ranged attacks until he gets close enough for some awkward and clumsy melee combat.
Showa may look comparatively worse, but at least I can watch the monsters actually hit each other.
Aiden Brown
What is it with 'murrican fans and their obsession with Godzilla hitting shit?
Everywhere else kaijufags look at the complete package when consuming kaijukino, but you can spot an american fight by the fact he only cares about the Godzilla punching shit in the face.
Levi Butler
I have a real soft spot for the good suitwork/puppetry in the better Showa films. Stuff like Mothra in the 64 movie or any of Goji's fights in the Mechag films feel so animated and lively, even if not necessarily like the natural actions of real animals. A lot of Showa does have terrible effects even for their time though, stuff like Godzilla's suit clearly falling apart in vs Gigan is one notable example.
Heisei's suitwork feels neither natural nor lively, just dull and boring.
Anthony Davis
This, there was unironically one bad instance the Sfx, the shit where Godzilla overlooks the nuclear plant and he's suddenly 2000 ft tall.
Everything else is fucking polished as fuck, and looks honestly decent for a pre-cg era mid-budget movie.
Jackson Edwards
Wasn't the fight just godzila getting tangled up a few times, and blasting her to death with beams? I think she may have stabbed his hand once and spit some shit on him and try to bite his head only to be beamed again and died, while Godzilla fell over on a beach because humans put something in him.
Thomas Rivera
>GvsKG, GvsMG2, and GvsMothra
>Steps DOWN from Biollante
Objectively shit taste, only bad Heisei movie is SpaceGodzilla, and that’s still pretty based.
Brody Long
My nigger, you are so goddamn right the left side of my body went numb and slack.
Eli Russell
I don't only care about fights. My two favorite Godzilla films are the original and Shin. But if you're going to have fights, I like to have melee combat, and for the breath weapons to be treated more like finishing moves or tide turners. They shouldn't be the main attack.
Bentley Ramirez
Godzilla 1984 > Godzilla vs Biollante > Godzilla vs Destroyah > Godzilla vs King Ghidorah > Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II > Godzilla vs Mothra >>>>. Godzilla vs Space Godzilla.
Levi Edwards
>Unironically liking fucking Battle for Earth
God even as a little kid I hated that shit. I never got the hype around Battra, edgier/altruistic Mothra is not interesting, Godzilla is almost a complete non-entity, shoved into a movie he clearly isn't meant to be the star of. It also pissed me off how boring Mothra was in this one, all stiff and plastic-y looking, with yet another beam attack because Heisei era just couldn't help itself with that shit.
I'll say the human plot isnt too shabby by Godzilla standards though
Gavin Price
Godzilla literally bodyslams Battra so hard he shifts a tectonic plate. It was absolute kino you fucking degenerate
Sebastian Williams
Grayson Myers
Godzilla 84 will always be my favorite since it was the first one I saw when I was a young kid. I used to cry like a dink at the end when he fell in the volcano but that didn't stop me from renting it over and over. I know this one gets a bit of shit but for me it will always be the best.
Tyler Watson
Oh yeah and Godzilla literally swimming through lava was pretty cool too. Other than that the movie's trash
Leo Ward
Don’t be talking shit about Elliot Mothgers, he’s cool.
Bentley Lopez
The atmosphere in that movie was great. Best in the era quite honestly.
Christian Lopez
Thread got me wanting to rewatch a goji movie, and kek I completely forgot GMK's opening takes a random jab at the 1998 American movie for some reason.
Ethan Wood
>Heisei’s suit actor stormed out of 1998’s showing, saying that “it does not have the spirit”
Mason Nguyen
Great movie all around, but something about the costume makes Godzilla look... special
Tyler Wood
How are they reacting to KotM?
Evan Nguyen
Same
God bless
Drink dr. P
William Anderson
No. The miniatures got worse and the fights became monotonous beam spamming.
Alexander Brooks
Some user said that Japanese fans consider it Heisei-tier. Also irked by the constant camera changes, but in general, do say it’s good. I hope the higher ups at Toho think the same
David Evans
Kids have a way of filtering that out. I am aware now about how it he looks off kilter sometimes but I am happy either way. I wish they would bring back the damned fangs he had in 84.
Easton Parker
>One of the directors commented that Godzilla only died “because Americans can’t stand that something could beat their previous military”
Fuckin based and redpilled. Fuck mutts.
Christopher Lewis
I prefer Bio/Ghidogoji shark-like multiple rows of teeth.
Wyatt James
God I fucking love the opening to GMK. Pitch perfect tone, grabs the audience's attention immediately by the dread conveyed by both the music and the actor in the submarine who spots Goji for the first time since 1954. Then it hard cuts to that killer title screen, then the opening credits which are an homage to the original Ghidorah movie, all while that great score keeps playing. So good
Christopher Baker
The Japanese have literally never made a good Godzilla movie.
Daniel Richardson
That's cool too but shit those fangs just brought it home for me. Why not both?
Isaac Ross
>Telling me this fight wasn’t kino
youtu.be
Ian Phillips
How did that react to the Hanna Barbera cartoon?
Colton Reyes
But in the movie the military created more collateral damage than Godzilla. And in the end solved nothing because a hatchling survived.
Jason Robinson
I remember being terrified of '84 G as a kid. The way his lips curl when he growls
Jose Price
glad Miki didn't die.
Noah Jenkins
Nice waste of trips.
This is standard Mid-Late Heisei shit - beam, beam, beam, beam, beam, beam, awkwardly stumble into the opponent, beam, beam etc.
Owen Phillips
Who honestly liked 98? I was mad as hell too.
>Big iguana
>No atomic fire breath
>Spiderman reflexes
>Defeated by a fucking bridge and two exploding dildos
Levi Evans
So Americans are so retarded they cant even do propaganda right
Ryder Rogers
When the fangs come out shit gets wrecked.
Gabriel Jenkins
>Godzilla BTFOing MechaG
>MG2 succumbing to the fire
>That triumphant roar at the end
>Avenging his bro Rodan
>”but... m-muh beams”
Unbiased and Bluepilled.
Nathaniel Edwards
They made one good one out of reams of bad ones.
Bentley Thomas
Blame Emmerich and Devlin. The Twister guy’s 94 version (Godzilla Vs. The Gryphon) was an authentic take, but Tristar hate Ethan he wanted 120 million, yet Emmerich spent twice as much
Justin Hughes
First three were great, next three suffer, last one is great again.
Nolan Flores
Godzilla 1998 is such a ducking shitshow... but it’s still strangely entertaining
Grayson Parker
>Emmerich spent twice as much
They didn't. Also making Godzilla an alien in a clone of Gamera Guardian of the Universe is not an authentic take.
Aiden Phillips
84, Biollante, and Destroya are excellent.
The rest are okay they are all better than any of the millennium films I can't stand any of them.
The best Showa are the earlier films after Astro monster they take a massive hit in quality (Mecha Godzilla films being the exception).
Jace Watson
Better than skinny lizard with a Jay Leno chin.
John Howard
Miniatures got worse in the Heisei era because they made Godzilla bigger. Smaller scale means less detail in the miniatures.
Alexander Garcia
Just watched Shin Godzilla
I feel like it would've been better if it wasn't about Godzilla at all, and the kaiju could evolve and mutate into more weird shit without having to be married to the appearance of Godzilla, even if it was a departure. Cool movie, but I just have this nagging feeling that making it about Godzilla was a mistake.
Jaxon Bell
What’s wrong with Ghidorah and MG2?
Samuel Murphy
Beams get old after twenty minutes, but damn if I don’t love the explosions. Showa had the physicality, Heisei had the pyrotechnics. Millennium also did stuff.
Gabriel Brown
I guess I'll take my Gabara poster down. That hurts man.
Gavin Adams
I like how the dismiss Zilla as a lizard but have no problem with Shin Godzilla as an eel.
Connor Perry
Godzilla FW did both great I thought.
Asher Cook
Because Evangelion
Blake Richardson
Because Shin eventually evolves into this chad youtu.be
Jordan Cooper
Time Travel, Ghidorah not being an Alien but genetically created creatures hit with radiation.
I felt let down with MG2 probably too hyped remembering Showa MG. Also I feel they shit on Rodan.
Alexander Cox
Boyega?
Wyatt Bailey
56 Rodan is the best Rodan.
Hunter Rodriguez
Even in retarded eel form Shin is more intimidating than Zilla is. It tramples over people and leaks radioactive sludge blood while always having that offputting dead fish expression.
Dylan King
I like the worm things.
Juan Gonzalez
Retarded eel Shin was fucking comical
Until the atomic breath started, Shin was just categorically not as impressive a force of nature as Legendary, full stop.
And even then, the fucking laser light show was comical too. Anno is a fucking madman genius but that shit was absurd. Let this nigga make Eva movies instead of some mutant-ass godzilla, nigga
Evan Anderson
Drawing shipping art of Godzilla and Mothra
Blake Taylor
The time travel shit was pretty cool though, seeing Pre-Radiation Godzilla stomp the shit out of mutts was beautiful. Plus, Mecha King Ghidorah
MG2 has that sweet power rangers transformation and was probably the closest MG to actually kill Godzilla. Also, Rodan was a bro who literally gave Godzilla his coolest attack
William Allen
Link the good shit, nibby
Moth pussy when
Carter Ross
This. The Showa movies were way better and more fun but the poster art for Heisei is amazing.
Kevin White
I really like his stand alone film.
Bentley Long
Nah, Showa may be the classic, but Heisei never hit the lows of Godzilla vs the Sea Monster or Godzilla’s Revenge
Also, Godzilla Jr>>>>>>>>>>>>Dog shit>>>>>>>>>Godzilla 1998>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Minilla
Jaxson Hill
This. Second goes to King Kong vs Godzilla
Blake Kelly
I hated how much they changed him in later movies. He looked like a gibbering retard when he teamed up to fight Ghidora.
Luis Hill
That's fair. Godzilla should have kept stomping and moved his way up to Minilla's head.
Connor Gomez
Does Mothra get fucked in the new movie?
Adam Brown
By Godzilla's eyes
Luis Gonzalez
rip
Juan Hill
What makes the eel work is that even in its most helpless form it is doing all it can to kill as many people as it can. Niether of it’s larger forms are shown chasing people down the street or crushing family’s in their apartment because its grown beyond that.
John Anderson
You guys have a mega link or torrent for all gojira movies
Brayden Baker
godzilla posters are so fucking based
Noah Ortiz
Rodan gets penetrated so that’s something
Cameron Powell
I liked a lot of the miniature work in it. The cityscape looked good, and I thought the movie had an interesting tone to it even if the overall story and direction weren't that memorable.
Elijah Wright
True. Drawn posters are a lost art.
Levi Bell
I've always wondered how long it would take to assemble a set with all those miniatures.
Gavin Gonzalez
GMK=kinographic
Caleb Sullivan
Absolutely based opinion. GMK is easily too 3 Godzilla kinos
Jaxon Evans
I know fans tend to overrate the hell out of this design but it is a genuinely nice looking suit. Very expressive, very animated movement while still coming across as threatening, probably the liveliest suitwork done in the entire Millennium era
Jaxon Walker
I have the SH Monsterarts figure on my entertainment center. Great looking Godzilla, in my top 3 iterations.
Samuel Williams
This was the most kino suit in the millennium saga. Possessed by the ghosts of Pacific War soldiers
Anthony Rivera
what's best ghidorah appearance?
Andrew Ross
I love the white eyes, wish more Godzilla designs would incorporate it.
Lincoln Brooks
Wasn’t it directed by the same guy who did the 90s Gamera movies?
Isaac Mitchell
>tries to go against Godzilla alone
>gets completely and utterly btfo it in like 3 minutes, you can barely call it a fight
Damn bros...he didn't deserve to go out like this...
Thomas Martinez
It’s the fucked up eyes
Nicholas Perry
Yep.
Noah Williams
He had huge balls, gotta give him that. Should be an inspiration to manlets everywhere.
Thomas Gomez
fuck I loved this one.
Ryder Brown
Baragon is best kaiju
youtube.com
Bentley Wood
Why was it Baragon of all monsters? Did they not wanna kill Rodan or Anguirus?
Landon Howard
Mothra and Ghidorah were almost gonna be varan and anguirus
Benjamin Edwards
Yeah, and infamously there was a lot of meddling from the suits at Toho in regards to his vision for the movie. Pretty sure he's said the movie had a troubled production, and we know for sure that Ghidorah and Mothra were not planned to be in the movie, and were only swapped in place of the originally planned Varan and Anguirus(pic related) because Toho wanted to sell more tickets.
Sucks, Varan's pretty underrated and it would've been cool to see him in another movie
Isaiah Lewis
It's the most consistent era of Godzilla by far, but I think I still enjoy the cheese of Showa more.
Juan Butler
>Shodai
Nani?
Carter Moore
To be fair, having Ghidorah and Mothra sounds way smarter, business wise, than Varan and Anguirus.
Also, way cooler fights
Julian Ramirez
The three guardian monsters were originally supposed to be Varan, Anguirus, and Baragon. They're all very cohesive with each other design-wise, and are very in keeping of the "monsters that guard nature" type
So with the first two being swapped out for Mothra and Ghidorah, Baragon ends up feeling like the odd one out in terms of cohesion
Jayden James
Yeah, but does Heisei have the Jag? Then checkmate
Jacob Taylor
Yeah, and the final product is still one of my favorite G films, but the originally planned kaiju are very underused, so it would've been cool to have them in another movie. Shit, Anguirus didn't appear at ALL in the Heisei erathey would've given him a beam attack, and he only appeared in Final Wars as a kind of legacy courtesy I'm assuming.
Anthony Phillips
Stop sleeping on this kino
Lincoln Smith
Yeah, if anything, I would’ve swapped out Baragon for Anguirus at the very least.
John Sullivan
First Godzilla film I ever saw, rented it from Blockbuster when I was 12yo. Still consider it the best one not in the Showa era
Camden Walker
Only thing legitimately kino about it is the ending.
>Godzilla saves the day
>Still goes out of his way to destroy the city at the end, because he's a force of nature we created
Best of both worlds
Charles Hernandez
I JUST noticed Orga’s face in the background
Josiah King
>Walks up to guy whose been fucking with him the whole movie
>Smashes him into pavement
>Destroys city anyway
Godzilla is vicious
Joseph Bell
Nah, it kind of sucked. I remember seeing it with my dad in a completely empty theater when I was 10.
Jackson Flores
It's alright. I'm told the English version is superior, and it's the only way I've watched it. Is there any reason to watch it in Japanese?
Ethan Sanders
Millennium has by far best Mecha G
Millennium>Show>Heisei as far as Mecha G goes
Connor Moore
Adrian Foster
>Using bones of a monster
Sick fuck.
Julian Perez
Am I the only one who really likes this one? No one seems to really talk about it much, but I think it, along with Biollante and Destroyah, are the best of the Heisei era.
>Four kaiju, Godzilla, Fire Rodan, Godzilla Jr., and Mechagodzilla 2, all fun Monsters that we've never seen together
>Best baby Godzilla design
The baby Godzilla stuff is also a lot more enjoyable and fun than I expected going in. The only questionable thing about it is the slightly dopey design of Mechagodzilla 2, but the rest is great.
Benjamin Green
>something about the costume makes Godzilla look... special
You are probably talking about the cybot, which was a 16 foot animatronic Godzilla that they built for Godzilla 1984. They had planned to use it for most of the movie, but they could not get it to work as good as they wanted, so the majority of Godzilla shots in the movie were a guy in a suit, and the inserted the Cybot where thye could. The problem was the suit the guy wore and the Cybot did not look exactly alike, so Godzilla looks derpy in some shots.
youtu.be
Kayden Watson
>yfw godzilla cucks have all these little weird discussions about "eras"
>yfw they literally watch japanese movies that look like a 10 years old's stop motion toy video, only worse
>yfw they rank dragon monsters by badassery
Kayden Gomez
Like any film featuring Godzilla's robotic doppelganger, it's good. I think it does get lost in the shuffle between Showa and Millennium's iterations (I like the design of Heisei MG the least, to be frank), but this iteration arguably gets the closest of any other kaiju to outright killing Godzilla when all is said and done. Myself, I prefer Showa, but they're all great in their own way.
Tyler Hall
Yes...and?
Chase Perry
wanna know the worst thing? they still make those but they usually don't opt to choose them for the official marketing.
Adam Williams
fuck yes
