As a political satire about the Japanese government's response to Fukushima, absolutely, it was great and Anno is based.

I still want a good, dramatic Godzilla film with a well-written human focus a la Spielberg's War of the Worlds.

Anno redeem himself with Shin Godzilla (Rebuild was shit) , the movie works by the name of him. it's not fantastic but better than the average godzilla movie.

I have mixed feelings on this movie.

On one hand I like the set up and plot but I fucking hate the chin splitting laser beam and the fucking light show out of his back.

I fucking love this movie. It’s been a while since I’ve ran through the Godzilla movies, but I remember really enjoying the Heisei films as standouts.

But god, this was just incredible. I don’t necessarily want a sequel to it, but goddamn if I could get more Japanese-produced Godzilla films soon on this caliber I’d be a happy boy.

I haven't watched any Japanese Godzilla movies except Shin and the one with mecha Ghidorah. I thought it was pretty good.
