why hasn’t he made anything good since Apocalypse Now?
Francis Ford Coppola
because he's a hack
Cursed
Because he made fucking Apocalypse Now.
It's the same with Orson Welles.
They showed up, did it right, then fucked off while being paid a ton of money having already secured immortality.
M E G A P O L I S
>What is Rumblefish and Bran Stoker´s Dracula?
>Implying Jack isn't better than Apocalypse Now
How do you top Apocalypse Now? It's a good movie to retire on.
He has
After the failure of One From the Heart and the bankruptcy of American Zoetrope he had a debt of 25 million dollars
Most of the movies he made through the 1980s and 1990s were to pay back that money
He still approached them with total commitment, professionalism, and artistry
And there were a few artistic endeavours like Rumble Fish shot in B&W
It wasn't just One From the Heart, he made Wim Wenders reshoot Hammett which would have cost a bit of money and it failed too
he kind of had a mental break down while filming apocalypse now and he never recovered from it, just go watch the behind the scenes doc
yes he did watch the making of material for any of his 80s and 90s movies hes perfectly fine
He started funding paedarasts.
People really need to stop believing this meme shit that gets posted on Yea Forums.
Anyway OP, he's making a new cut of Apocalypse Now, it's supposed to be the final one, so be happy for him.
>implying JACK (1996) doesn't exist
For shame, user, for shame.
Rumble Fish was ahead of its time.
The Rainmaker, Dracula and Cotton Club are also all good.
the man served his time and deserves another chance
>brought Salva to the attention of Francis Ford Coppola, who then produced Salva's first theatrical feature, Clownhouse (1989), which Salva again wrote and directed.
>In 1988, Salva was convicted of sexual misconduct with one of Clownhouse's underage stars – Nathan Forrest Winters, who was, at the time, 12 years old – including videotaping one of the encounters.[4] Commercial videotapes and magazines containing child pornography were also found in his home.[4] Salva pleaded guilty to lewd and lascivious conduct, oral sex with a person under 14, and procuring a child for pornography.[4][5] He was sentenced to three years in state prison, of which he served 15 months.[2] He completed his parole in 1992.[5]
Coppola continues to defend him and produce his films, the only reason Salva is still making films is because Coppola keeps funding them.
get++
Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula is fucking shit
That's not at all what it was like for Welles
>people deserve no second chance and cannot be redeemed
>Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula is fucking shit
Except his work proves that he doesn't deserve to be redeemed, he was taking swipes and trying to justify his behaviour in his third Jeepers film. If he truly wished for a second chance he would have gotten out of the line of work he's in and tried his hardest to fight his demons. He hasn't though, and he will continue in this way, Coppola enabled him and encouraged him to act this way.
There was good interview with Coppla released on Deadline last month if anybody interested. He's made a small fortune off his wine business and lives comfortably now but he details all the financial problems that went on in his career
t.brainlet
and the winery now provides the money for him to pay out of his own pocket to make the sort of films he wants to make
Except he did a anything but retire.
win win
Because he cares more about his winery and stuffing his fat face than he ever did about making movies.
Sofia took over in the talent department. She's genuinely good
The Conversation was great, Dracula however was ultimately disappointing and could have been a truly great film like Nosferatu, but wasn't.
He also made the two Godfather movies prior to it, but AN especially took something out him that he never got back and rightfully so, that movie is a fucking masterpiece and stands the test of time again and again.
>apocalypse now
>good
Le horror
Burn out
Redemption means avoiding eternal hellfire. It doesn't mean getting your job back.
He went bankrupt because One From the Heart was a massive flop (huur duur I don't want to go to Vegas, I will build Las Vegas myself, what can go wrong?) and had to make commisioned films for the next 20 years (Last one was The Rainmaker in 1997).
When he was free of that burden, he was 20 years late in filmmaking and ended make unwatchable forgettable shit like Tetro, Twixt or Youth Without Youth.
He now sells wine.
yeah surely that was the reason why Welles would keep doing all those commercials
Maybe he just really liked those peas, dude
there was so much shit that went wrong while he was making apocalypse now that we cant be sure if that movie was good because of him or despite him
If you've seen the documentary, the movie turned out to be so great because of Coppola and his vision. The initial script is barely present in the final product, like 20% of it or less is there if I'm not mistaken. He's also the first person to truly succeed at adapting Conrad's work, which is a feat on its own.
DUDE ANOTHER CUT LMAO
Can't wait.
Isn't he dead?
>Sofia Coppola likes any guy who has what she wants. If she wants to be a photographer she’ll fuck a photographer. If she wants to be a filmmaker, she’ll fuck a filmmaker. She’s a parasite just like her fat, pig father was.
*Stars in one of his later films*
Ah, truly an honest gentleman himself
coppola has been doing the same interview for the past 19 years
anyone who has heard one of them has heard them all
Even better. He seems to know what he's talking about.
Hear basically retired collecting and selling wine. Modern Hollywood wouldn’t want him anyway - before or after Apocalypse Now.
Mafia financed Cotton Club lol
>what went on behind the scenes of The Cotton Club is a novel. There was a murder connected with the financing.
>He now sells wine.
>"To be honest with you, I made more money in the wine business than I did in the film business. But I made it with money that I had earned in the film business."
