That's the thing, though. They have a different weight to carry. They have the responsibility, and they have the curse of knowledge. General Tarakanov personally instructed and thanked every bio-robot, sure. But he still knew what he was ordering them to do, and he knew that he HAD to order them to do it. He's not doing a "le lions being lead by donkies" metaphor, he's just addressing the reality that in war, officers have to give orders to their men that they know will likely lead to their mens' early deaths. The scene where Legasov asks Gorbachev for permission to order divers to open the valves illustrates that. He bluntly says "I'm asking you for permission to kill three men", and Gorbachev tells him right back "All victories come at a cost."

Not that I'm complaining, but why are /pol/fags flooding the board with new topics about how Chernobyl insults their MAGA God instead of posting about it in here?
In that case I must have misunderstood. Former soldiers when they would separate officers and line troops would often add a bad connotation to it. I assumed the same for this.
someone famous said something along the lines of "chernobyl is like trump"

Like Brett, felicity or maybe even Jesus? Or do you mean names like Donald and Stanley as opposed to stronk slavik gopnik names like Valeriy and Aleksandr? Tы чe eбaнaт?
If there's any bad connotation, it's that they didn't tell the troops exactly how much danger they were in. But that's toned down in the show vs real life; in real life the biorobots were supposed to only go up on the roof once but some of them wound up going up there up to 6 times.
But ultimately, the officers in the show are shown having to grapple with the responsibility of their orders. All of the protagonists have the best interests of the world and the Soviet Union at heart, but what they have to do is visibly killing them inside. Rewatch the ending scene again when General Tarakanov was thanking the last of the biorobots. Look at his face as he goes through the ranks and shakes their hands.
This is the look of a man who knows that the young men who he just wished would have a long life and good health would probably have neither, all while those men proudly proclaim that they did it to serve the Soviet Union. It's the look of a man who knows just what that service is going to cost them, and at the same time, it's the look of a man who knew that it had to be done.
I agree with that sentiment. Watch the video with subs, towards the latter half, Tarakanov appears and even does the scene, that Chernobyl shows. youtube.com/watch?v=tqaLf5VfxRE
the soldier that escorted sitnikov up to the roof had to have some amount of exposure too though right?
Oliver Long
Apply for that NRC scholarship so I can get an in to the nuclear industry and slowly work my way to either designing plants or operating reactors so we can finally get a proper season 2 and not that weak fukushima bullshit. Or do the above then move to Russia or an ex soviet country and cross my fingers that I can get this all done before the last of /ourreactors/ are shut down
Liam Cook
Yes. Which is why a woman holding his picture is at the same funeral as Vasily's wife.
Robert Peterson
Not the same dose but he would have easily had a fatal dose from the dust and graphite on the roof
Jonathan Garcia
Shit I also need to somehow revive the USSR and restart the cold war or else it wouldn't be nearly as good. Anyone want to help?
Not everybody who died from ARS at Chernobyl got Pizza'd, radiation poisoning affects different people different ways, some responded much worse than others. Sitnikov for example, as well as the three stooges who looked at the reactor, wound up looking more like a basic burn victim rather than Emil Antonowsky from Robocop. Akimov and Ignatenko however were renowned for decaying far more horribly than usual.
dont forget the three dudes who went into the water to open the sluice gates, two of whom are still alive
Andrew Gonzalez
But they didn't get ARS at all
That person actually survived - you can tell by the fact the rest of their body is relatively healthy despite being well past the "walking ghost" stage of a fatal radiation dose. They clearly needed major medical recuperation and reconstructive surgery.
Dylan Foster

But it's irrelevant to the point of different effects of fatal ARS. I remember there's a webm of a dying victim posted around here whose skin is blackened from necrosis - was that a Chernobyl victim? If so, which?
Oliver Peterson
>Why do we all have to wear these ridiculous hats?
Jacob Nguyen
That's about what it detected, it could go higher, but they only got to it like a day or two later so some of the radiation had died down a little bit, some estimates go a bit higher to 20,000
Evan Campbell
What would Yea Forums have done if you were Dyatlov and everyone was telling you the reactor core had exploded?
Those aren't the same people. That caption says "40 days after incident" which means he has to have survived, as the longest it took anybody at Chernobyl to die from ARS was 34 days.
Matthew Garcia

For the record, there is a coming out about Chernobyl, except it seems to be some kind of a play on the old theory that the disaster was caused by a western saboteur. For you non-slavs, normally if it is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture it is shit. We will have to wait at least another 10 years before Russian Chernobyl movies. You do not see many movies about Afghan or Chechnya either.

On the other hand, in the face of the universal acclaim Chernobyl is getting for how accurate it's trying to be about the Soviet Union and the Disaster, It should be hilarious to see it fall flat and get ravaged.

NUCLEAR REACTORS DON'T EXPLODE

That is somewhat more believable, but I still cannot envision a complete changeover of even a single branch. I would understand the tax service or some other obscure and relatively badly trained branch of the ministry of justice changing over because "western is always bettah" but it is well known in Russia that all of the regular special forces, namely all of Ministry of Interior Spetsnaz, Ministry of Defence constituents like SOF or GRU, and of course FSB Spetsnaz groups, like Alpha or Vympel, would almost always use AK74 or 100 series although probably with western add ons. In certain cases AS VAL's and similar would be used as well as foreign sniper rifles and in the rarest of cases Abakans. These lads are all posterboys of the russian government. They would never catch them with an american designed rifle desu.

The fact that other real life scientists have found this out at the time. Also normally a person would have thought twice before calling out a high ranking party man, but she does it on a regular basis.

Yes, exactly to claim the opposite to this is to hilariously push propaganda for a bygone era. Women had basic cursory titles but honestly russia, especially 80's soviet era russia was a giant boy's club. Ultra-chauvinist.
