Superman: the Movie obv

Man of Steel 1, but we'll never see its true potential with the follow up films Snyder had in mind. WB was fucking retarded and shit all over what would've been a great character arc for Superman.

>MoS 2 has been officially cancelled

Attached: 1545456465614.webm (1920x796, 1.89M)

MAn of Steel still has the greatest superhero fight of all time I dont care what anyone says

this
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

This. Fuckin faggots whining about CGI buildings.

>MoS 2 has been officially cancelled
it hasn't tho

Objective Superman movie ranking:
>Superman
>Superman II: Richard Donner Cut
>Superman Returns
>Superman II
>Superman III
>Man of Steel
>Batman V Superman
>JUSTice League
>Superman IV

The 1978 film with Reeves obviously. But I didn't mind Man of Steel and Cavill is great.

Attached: man of steel-6.webm (1280x534, 1.63M)

>Superman Returns that high up
nigga u gay

reminder there has never been a good superman movie. EVER!

Attached: 1552166091054.jpg (3200x1920, 319K)

>Now that MoS 2 has been officially put on ice
ftfy

Why not? It’s really good

Superman the movie is a 10/10

its was already doomed to shit with zack directing

dc fags in denial typical

BOOMER

It’s true, name a single flaw in the movie

>JUSTice League
above Superman IV?
No

yeah. i can agree with this
maybe swap MoS and BvS but it hardly matters

boring af and no cool boss fights change my mind or prove me wrong and you can't

its really not though

Kino

Attached: s-l1000.jpg (674x1000, 135K)

>there's an alternate universe where Snyder keeps making cape kino
It hurts

ok, now this is EPIC

>boring af
That’s completely subjective
>no cool boss fights
Why is that a flaw?

It's really not. There are a LOT of problems with the pacing and the overall story. The novelty of the effects causes everyone to gloss over how shitty a film it was.

Give examples

1. Margot Kidder is manly as fuck
2. Gene Hackman's Luthor bears no resemblance to the source material, and is immeasurably goofy and nonthreatening
3. Reeve is not nearly as built as he should be for a powerhouse of a character
4. The color scheme of the costume is far too light, the Dean Cain version works better in live action
5. Luthor's plan to sink the West Coast is dubious at best
6. There is no indication that reversing the Earth's rotation would reverse time and instead would likely result in untold destruction of Earth's ecosystem

See below

> 1. Margot Kidder is manly as fuck
I kind of like that Clark fell for someone who isn't typically pretty. It's more about her spirit
> 2. Gene Hackman's Luthor bears no resemblance to the source material, and is immeasurably goofy and nonthreatening
He resembles Luthor before the mid 80s when they turned Luthor into a businessman
> 3. Reeve is not nearly as built as he should be for a powerhouse of a character
He's fine
> 4. The color scheme of the costume is far too light, the Dean Cain version works better in live action
who cares
> 5. Luthor's plan to sink the West Coast is dubious at best
It's pretty clever and memorable
> 6. There is no indication that reversing the Earth's rotation would reverse time and instead would likely result in untold destruction of Earth's ecosystem
Perhaps he's just traveling back in time by going FTL, the reversal of the earth's spin would then just be part of time going backwards during his trip. The point is he's disobeying his father's command not to change history, and becoming his own man

>Margot Kidder is manly as fuck
What does that even mean?
>Gene Hackman's Luthor bears no resemblance to the source material
So what?
>and is immeasurably goofy and nonthreatening
He very nearly killed Superman and would have if it weren’t for Ms. Teschmacher
>Reeve is not nearly as built as he should be for a powerhouse of a character
That’s just your opinion
>The color scheme of the costume is far too light,
That’s just your opinion
>Luthor's plan to sink the West Coast is dubious at best
How so?
>There is no indication that reversing the Earth's rotation would reverse time
Are you seriously trying to apply real science to Superman? Okay Reddit

Just do All Star Superman already, what the fuck is wrong with people who get ahold of these franchises?

>1. Margot Kidder is manly as fuck
fucking WRONG
>2. Gene Hackman's Luthor bears no resemblance to the source material, and is immeasurably goofy and nonthreatening
While he may not have been the super genius from the comics, he definitely wasn't immeasurably goofy and nonthreatening. You're thinking of Otis.
>3. Reeve is not nearly as built as he should be for a powerhouse of a character
The guy was extremely tall and put on a lot of muscle for this role. He was an imposing figure that didn't need steroids.
>4. The color scheme of the costume is far too light, the Dean Cain version works better in live action
god, you're fucking retarded
>5. Luthor's plan to sink the West Coast is dubious at best
it was the perfect foil to Superman. No one can really hurt him, so his villain is trying to hurt him in the best way possible.
>6. There is no indication that reversing the Earth's rotation would reverse time and instead would likely result in untold destruction of Earth's ecosystem
that is some fuckery going on, but if you listen closely to Jor-El's teachings to baby superman you'll hear him talk about mystical shit like astral projection and what not. I just wrote it off as some supernatural shit that wasn't fleshed out very well.

Your entire assertion of the film's merit is based on your opinion, guy. So, refuting two of my points with "That's just your opinion" is not an argument. And yes, applying real science to Superman is worth doing. I can suspend my disbelief to a point but the movie asks an awful lot in that aspect.

>when an anonymous person from Taiwan has better sensibility than a billion dollar megacorporation
OH NO NO NO, SAY IT AIN'T SO-SO-SO

Luthor in the OG film is cringe as fuck. The animated series shows how luthor should be and is closer to the source material then le wacky bald guy who wears wigs and says hes a genius every 2 seconds.

>that is some fuckery going on
It really is the single biggest flaw. There is no reason why it should work, nor is there any kind of explanation. Also, Matgot Kidder's chin and baritone voice make her very unfeminine to me.

No it’s not, it’s based on the objective quality of the writing. Maybe come up with some objective flaws if you want to prove the movie is bad.
>And yes, applying real science to Superman is worth doing.
Don’t you have more five nights at Freddy’s videos to make, MatPat?

>He resembles Luthor before the mid 80s when they turned Luthor into a businessman
Wrong. Luthor was a typical mad scientist, not the used car salesman Gene Hackman made him out to be.

>Luthor in the OG film is cringe as fuck
kys zoomer
yeah like I said with the whole mystical talk from Jor-El, I think it was just a supernatural plotline that wasn't fleshed out. I could be wrong though.

>t. Jesse Eisenberg

Man I read the fucking comics, and it makes no sense why they would portray Luthor that way in the film, when he was already threatening as fuck in the comics of that time, I mean luthor wasn't goofy since the silver age runs of DC.

Fuck off.

>Maybe come up with some objective flaws if you want to prove the movie is bad.
I'm not out to prove the movie is "bad" merely that it is not 10/10. I believe there are flaws, number 6 is pretty much the go to.
>Don’t you have more five nights at Freddy’s videos to make, MatPat?
I have no idea what you're talking about here.

Jesse sucks too, but is way better than Hackman. I like the animated series luthor way better.

exactly how was luthor goofy?

>Superman reversing time
>Don’t you know that isn’t scientifically accurate!!!???

>Jesse sucks too, but is way better than Hackman
Fucking neck yourself you dumb zoomer

Dude come on, Luthor the entire film is hamming it up. It's like a comedy sketch when he is in prison with otis. I mean his plan makes literally no sense on a logistic level for someone with omega level intelligence. And he's doing it all for real estate? What the fuck?

youtube.com/watch?v=RNHqe30uu-I

>Luthor in the OG film is cringe as fuck
oof

>Jesse sucks too, but is way better than Hackman
ok, all of your posts are invalidated

it wasnt cancelled. Matt Vaughn just said hes no longer atatched to the project

We all know who the best Luthor was desu.

Attached: LexSpacey2.jpg (280x420, 18K)

His plan would have worked out perfectly if it weren’t for Ms. Teschmacher saving Superman at the last minute

They are both absolutely terrible and completely deviate from the source material. At least Lex in BvS had a coherent plan and was actually a threat to superman directly on an ideological level. Lex in 1978 film just wanted money or some shit.

Bro I'm pretty sure those were nuclear warheads weren't they? How the FUCK is he going to renovate any of the displaced land masses for profit?

kek

>Superman kills Pa Kent by challenging him to a race and giving him a heart attack
>extended "romantic" flight scene with Lois and some cheesy ballad
>Lex Luthor has a retard henchman
>Supes needs Lex's thot sidekick to rescue him from certain death
>biggest Deux Ex Machina in capeshit history

I know old shit is supposed to be cool by default, but have you millennials even tried to watch this shit since you were in elementary school?

What was dumb as fuck was that with real estate you need land that's actually attractive/people want to live. The land he created was desolate as fuck. I don't know wtf the director was thinking picking that design for the land.

>biggest Deux Ex Machina in capeshit history
Eve saving Superman isn’t unbelievable at all, she has clear motivation for doing so

Holy fuck i love that set design
best production design in film history. easily

He did, unless you couldn't follow it. Lex in the original film is the most one dimensional villain on screen, every time he is on screen it automatically dates the film. Which is sad because they had Marlon brando with an amazing intro, great young clark, and reeves killed it as superman. Best scene in the film is him flying with lois. Might as well not give a fuck after that.

Not an argument.

>Returns above 2
I think Returns is underrated, but it doesn't beat 2. Even the non-Donner cut version.

This, the entire sequence doesn't make sense. There isn't even a nuclear fallout, I was confused the entire time.

Fine, then give us some reason as to why it should work. He just does it.

But it hasn’t been cancelled?

Frank Miller is spinning in his grave.

When will this Zack Snyder is a good capeshit director meme stop?

I don’t think there was any line that said the missiles were nuclear

Nice detail that he never takes that breathing apparatus out, and it presumably just gets knocked out towards the end.

I'm pretty sure they do, that's why the government wants them back so bad. One of the soldiers or someshit says it when they launch.

>Fine, then give us some reason as to why it should work. He just does it.

I meant, Superman literally reversing the third act with time travel.

Attached: 1511657210119.png (434x527, 150K)

Man of Steel is still the only capeshit worth watching. BVS was good but not MoS good. Bit sad that he couldn't complete his story arc. But fuck that it's only capeshit in the end. I hope he make some non-capeshit stuff in the future.

His portrayal is that of a huckster or schyster, not a criminal mastermind. Very hammy and over the top, not cool and calculating.

Why is that so bad? In the comics Superman can patch up black holes with his static electricity. Why wouldn’t he be able to do something like that?

You didn'y even offer a counterpoint there. Star Trek offers numerous time travel methods which have 0 chance of actually working but they do provide an explanation in-storyline as to why it does. Superman the Movie offers no such explanation.

>2. Gene Hackman's Luthor bears no resemblance to the source material,

>In the comics
Fuck comics, comics are stupid gay shit

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Watch a few episodes of Challenge of the Superfriends. It seems like the only things Hackman took were the name and a cartoon style delivery.

>In the comics Superman can patch up black holes with his static electricity
They retconned his powerset later on so that he wouldn't be as stupidly powerful as he had gotten. He's still OP but he ain't Jesus anymore.

Lol, calm down buddy. You're getting angry over a movie about a children's comic book character. Maybe you should go outside, or read a book? Go somewhere frequented by the opposite sex, or more likely the same sex in your case?

Why exactly can’t we have MOS 2? Just make it a lower budget and make the villain metallo or something

>The stunt crew created a new fighting style, like slapping kung fu, specifically for the kryptonians.
Now you know

>MoS 2 has been officially cancelled
Not cancelled, just in development hell again like it has been for decades. Eventually WB will settle for either a reboot or Cavill back for MOS 2. In the meantime the Snyder Cut of JL is being quietly prepared for release in who knows when. This is normal for Superman as WB really do not know what to do with him. Get used to it.

Yeah it doesn’t because Superman can just do it, none of your faggoty science is required to explain it you fucking soiboy

So the film is perfect in every way and has no flaws whatsoever? No criticism is valid?

I never said this you strawmanning nerd

Checked, gentlemen.

Comics are so fucking gay. The movies are alright, but fuck the entire comic hobby.

Dilate tranny

its an ok childhood thing, as it helps promote reading, but I never understood adults collecting and arguing over stupid picture books

Well you're going out of your way to poke holes in my criticism of the single most glaring flaw in the film. If you're doing that you must believe the movie is immune from criticism, or you're just an asshole.

>adults can't enjoy things
yeah, grown men should watch porn and news only

>there's nothing wrong with an adult playing with childish things
man, go the fuck outside already

It's just a fucking medium you idiot. A comic book can be better than Shakespeare if it's done by the right person. Shit, some of them probably are.

why?
only kids play outside

>A comic book can be better than Shakespeare if it's done by the right person

Attached: 1558828465266.jpg (354x360, 24K)

It can be better than film too, since I forgot to mention that. It's all about the story.

The sooner WB get rid of Jon Peters the better Superman will be on cinema. This guy has held Superman back for ages with his ridiculous ideas.

>if you criticize my criticism, you must think this movie is completely immune from criticism
Truly a high IQ post

name one, just ONE fucking comic book that is better than Shakespeare

Earth's reversed rotation was a sign that he was going back in time by travelling at hyper-relativistic speeds. You're right about Luthor being a bumbling moron, though.

>the film autist shouts at the comic book autist
You should both kys. It's literally the same fucking thing. Stories being told through with different methods.

first, i don't read comics, i only watch the movies/cartoon
second, why is so wrong for an adult to enjoy reading comics? are you that bitter that can't enjoy things you did when you were a child?

"Yeah it doesn’t because Superman can just do it."
That's not an explanation, that is an assertion/supposition on your part. It is never addressed within the film that/how/why Superman can do this.

No, he's conducting himself like a douchebag. So, either he believes the most glaring flaw in the film is in fact not a flaw or he's being a dick.

Do you also need a scientific explanation on how Superman can fly? Has laser vision? Super breath? Superman can do extraordinary things, that’s his character

"When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things."

Didn't you read my post you imbecile? I said that a comic COULD be better than Shakespeare, who has, at this point, been likely surpassed in his own field You've romanticized the author more than he romanticized his own characters.

No, because this is addressed as being a result of the yellow sun's affects on his Kryptonian physiology. I will admit, some suspension of disbelief is necessary, but the turn vack the Earth thing requires a little more explanation than nothing.

Grant Morrison's Animal Man, Moore's Swamp Thing, All Star Superman, etc.
Shakespeare was a fag.

you're fucking retarded, and should be ashamed of yourself

>You're right about Luthor being a bumbling moron, though.
I think Donner wanted Hackman because he was capable of becoming more calculating and vengeful in future sequels. Sort of saw this in S2 but wasn't fully realised I think. Ross Webster in Superman 3 was pretty much Businessman Luthor.

Attached: ross-webster.jpg (600x300, 31K)

I'm not going to critique your intelligence since it's impossible to determine from a few posts (yes, objectively, faggot), but you're narrow-minded to the point where it's irrational. This isn't normal.

>being this butthurt that you've been called out for being a manchild for collecting and reading picture books aimed at children
>being this butthurt that your retarded "HURR IT COULD BE" argument is stupid
do yourself a favor, trash your childish things and just go outside already incel

No Marvel film will eveer beat this fight scene

youtube.com/watch?v=02Y0OA8GRGc

>I will admit, some suspension of disbelief is necessary, but the turn vack the Earth thing requires a little more explanation than nothing.
What? Donner visually let us know what Superman was doing. That's all. Earth didn't didn't change, Clark simply went back in time to the point where he can change events for the better and save Lois of course. A bit like Endgame, if you think about it.

Attached: why.gif (245x165, 1.42M)

>aimed at children
Disliking capeshit is perfectly reasonable. However, your argument is objectively wrong, and embarrassing, considering the evidence is in front of your eyes. It's 2019 for fucks sake.
Were you molested with a comic book shoved up your ass or something?
Worst case scenario: Comics were aimed exclusively at children.
I'd still shit on you for being a compartmentalizing elitist asshole. Go do your calculus.

No, that I get. But his method of time travel was to physically recerse the Earth's rotation. If it was "I'll fly so fast I'll go back in time" or something I would get that. It's not the concept but the mechanism I take issue with.

Hulk fight in Africa was pretty brutal

>copy paste Cervantes book
>throw in some images to go along
Voila

>If it was "I'll fly so fast I'll go back in time"
It's exactly that. I'd like to believe it was just in Superman's point of view. If you're on the outside you would not notice, time would flow normally. Take this scene from the "Time Machine", Donner probably took inspiration here.
youtu.be/7aVpiGzsCBI?t=111

Attached: Superman time travel.jpg (375x369, 54K)

>It's exactly that.
One possible interpretation. It's vague at best, and if that was how they wanted to go they should have shot it differently. It's a flaw.

THIS

The fact that this opinion is the less popular one with execs bending to the will of crazy fandoms and other bullshit, it hurts to no small degree that MoS 2 is cancelled, that the Snyderverse has been killed.

>Donner Cut of 2 this high

I enjoyed parts of it, but it's still not great. The time travel ending has got to go. It's bad. Speaking of, are there any good edits of superman 2? Some stuff in the Donner cut is solid and better than what we got. Lois figuring out the identity, Zod using a gun, Brando being in it. Though Superman 2 feels like a more complete and streamlined movie. Id love to see an edit that uses footage from both, tying it all together.

Star Trek is science fiction that prides itself on its pseudo-language bullshit and concepts. Superman is able to jump into the air and fly. Explain his flight? How is he able to bank, ascend, or accelerate? Is he using super farts in the air? It makes no sense, it's a fantasy, it's not science fiction.

>Id love to see an edit that uses footage from both, tying it all together.
This is what I'd like to see. The base would be Donner's cut but a few scenes from Lester's would really make Superman 2 feel complete.
>The time travel ending has got to go.
Donner always wanted the time travel at the end of S2. It was tacked on to S1 because of time constraints. But yes I agree.

Attached: Kryptin son.jpg (798x449, 32K)

Perhaps he emits a field of antigravitons, or is able to telekinetically manipulate the materials around him. You could explain everything he does if you tried.

Donner said himself he would have come up with a new ending for 2 if he had the chance. Time travel was more meant to fix the destruction by zod, which didn't happen. They put it on to 1 because it was an expensive effect and they had completed it. They wanted to use it anyway to really punch the climax of one incase it bombed 2 might not get finished.

>You could explain everything he does if you tried.

Yes, but again, it's not star trek. It's not about explaining things and exploring the elements that make all these parts.

>Time travel was more meant to fix the destruction by zod, which didn't happen.
Interesting. I bet if this was done by Cavill at the end of MOS mcucks would be fine with it because world would then be a-OK.

Attached: Batman and Superman time travel adventures.jpg (602x925, 300K)

>It's not about explaining things and exploring the elements that make all these parts.
And you might be satisfied with that. I'm not. All I want is a line of dialogue telling me what the fuck is happening.

>All I want is a line of dialogue telling me what the fuck is happening.
Unbelievable. Let's have Donner narrate the movie for you. Why do films these days have to be dumbed down for people like you? It's entertainment, you don't really need an explanation. Just common sense and the ability to understand character's motivations in the film.

Attached: 1510801063900.jpg (712x630, 58K)

They're just not those kinds of stories. I get it, I know James Cameron looked at Aquaman and didn't like there was nothing propelling them. They don't kick their legs to swim, they just zoom through. To me it's just a blurring of fantasy into reality. Peter Pan says is magic, they fly cause of pixie dust. In comic book movies, its super powers. Less is more for me, don't explain it.

Literally the only Capeshit that is actually a "great film" the rest range from good (Dark Knight) to awful (captain marvel)
but NONE of them ever reached the level of the 78 superman
MoS really felt like it could have used a rewrite but compared to comic shit at the time its fine (if uneven)

Attached: BTFO.jpg (417x556, 49K)

Not him, but you fail to understand that Superman isn't necessarily meant to be explainable or make any kind of cohesive sense, even in his most ridiculous power showings. At this point he's more or less mythological in nature. An abstract idea, more so than a logical character like Iron Man for example.
Sure, there are certain "rules" to his character, but they could be easily broken if the situation demands it, similarly to how he's punched holes in reality in some comics, which makes zero sense whatsoever.

>To me it's just a blurring of fantasy into reality
Unlike Marvel which is mostly based in reality. DC characters tend to be regarded as mythological heroes like the Greek Gods. There is a reason why Snyder took that approach for his DCEU.

Attached: jl.jpg (1861x800, 789K)

Rich Douche Lex literally wasn't the source material in 1978.
Too bad they never put Lex's true origin on the big screen with Superboy causing his baldness. WB really fucked up with that tooo beee honest

Exactly this.

yes. That is superman's power. (though admittedly he should have turned into a phantom if he travelled down his own time line)
Its suppose to be a fantasy film not a documentary

Listen guys, I'm happy you can turn your brains off when watching this shit, but I can't. Seeing something fantastical without an explanation sticks with me through the rest of the movie/episode. I also don't believe it's too difficult to tell the audience what's going on.

everyone understood it at the time in 1978. Just because audiences have gotten dumber since then isn't the fault of the film makers

Kill yourself

Yea marvel is so wordy and over explaining at times. I remember Fantastic Four comics where Reed doesn't shut up on the science. Stan Lee said that was like him, he keeps talking. This carried over to a lot of his work and became a maintain in marvel. They do try to explain the why and what and how. They have solid origin stories of people getting powers. That's what Stan Lee was into, but DC is more what can you do with these powers. What else can they do, what are the limits.

>everyone understood it at the time
Disagree, people have taken issue with this aspect of the film forever, Seinfeld did a bit on it for Christ's sake.

>Seeing something fantastical without an explanation sticks with me through the rest of the movie/episode. I also don't believe it's too difficult to tell the audience what's going on.
Marvel is for you then. No need to waste your time here.

It's all your fault, user.

as a nickpicking joke.

>Seeing something fantastical without an explanation sticks with me through the rest of the movie/episode.

They never explain how he flies, and you're not bothered by this, but the time travel which happens at the end of the movie ruins the rest of the movie for you? I wish I could turn my brain off from your posts that make no sense.

Seethe as I become more and more powerful each day.

>They never explain how he flies
They do though, not in exact detail.
LARA
(pleading)
But why Earth, Jor-El? They're primitives, thousands of years behind us.

JOR-EL
He will need that advantage to survive. Their atmosphere will...will sustain him.

JOR-EL looks at his son, briefly smiles in pain and walks over to the area where the ship that will carry the BABY lies. There are information crystals placed in slots on the edges.

LARA
(walks after him, carrying the BABY)
He will defy their gravity.

JOR-EL
He will look like one of them.

LARA
He won't *be* one of them.

JOR-EL
No. His dense molecular structure will make him strong.
(looks at the rocket ship)

LARA
(looks down)
He'll be odd. (stares at JOR-EL again) Different.

JOR-EL
He'll be fast. Virtually invulnerable.

My issue with the time travel is that Superman could have said something like "if I fly fast enough, I might be able to go backwards in time, I have to try." It would have told me the viewer what's going on. As it stabds, it looks like Earth's tmrotation is being reversed which would not work.

So you're okay with lazy writing then? Got it.

>"if I fly fast enough, I might be able to go backwards in time, I have to try."
You literally want Chris Reeve, a Juliard trained actor to verbalalize Clark's thoughts in a tense moment when Lois just died, by himself. You my friend need to grow up.

I don't care how it gets done as long as it gets done.

>I don't care how it gets done as long as it gets done.
I don't want you directing a DC film. Period. As I said. Marvel is for you. Be glad you have options.

kek

Did you really want to see a Gay Superman complete with Homophelia sex scenes : Just wait

>I don't want you directing a DC film.
Nigga what? Who's directing anything? Me expressing what I want to see as a fan doesn't mean I want to direct movies anymore than you do.

I really got to pick up that 3 hour version

Nigger

>Nigger
Well done, thou hast surely bested me with thine erudite wordplay. Good show old man.

>it's lazy to spoon feed the audience with superfluous lines of dialogue.

You're the one failing to grasp the concept of rewind through a visual medium, because you "can't turn your brain off" and think a single line of dialogue would solve your issue.

Zac Snyder will make a Dragon Ball Z adaptation and it will be fucking amazing. Screencap this.

Not a Nigger now

i agree except i'd swap 3 and mos

Because a single line of dialogue would solve the issue asshole.

none of these are legitimate arguments to the quality of the film

It's still not a 10/10 film

holy shit, that scream

I personally feel a straight adaptation of pic related would be an excellent film.
