At this point he's more or less mythological in nature. An abstract idea, more so than a logical character like Iron Man for example.
Sure, there are certain "rules" to his character, but they could be easily broken if the situation demands it, similarly to how he's punched holes in reality in some comics, which makes zero sense whatsoever.

My issue with the time travel is that Superman could have said something like "if I fly fast enough, I might be able to go backwards in time, I have to try." It would have told me the viewer what's going on. As it stabds, it looks like Earth's tmrotation is being reversed which would not work.
