Well he's gets shitted on here now and again for his tastes, arrogance, not very original insights, etc. but I don't really care about those critiques because I do find him a very entertaining personality. I enjoy his skits too. Definitely did not agree with GoT s8 videos when he was praising the earlier seasons as great or good adaptions but still watched and liked overall.

Why are they bad by film student standards? Saw some review of the Lover that did criticise it but considered the fact it was a student's film and the reviewer was a former film school student too so was able to praise all the things done right within that context.

Well you're genuinely getting pissy over things like that. I don't so long as I find them entertaining, charismatic, etc. enough. He has the same insights as those video essayists but I'm not subscribed to them cause of how dry and self important and condescending they are with their banal insights. At least when Ralph gives a banal insights it's coming from a entertaining with some charm and energy and skits I find funny.

I mean yms said that before Citizen Kane there was no narrative structure and people were just doing shit in front of camera. That's just retarded. Ralph isn't that much better but he actually watches some older films. Also his reviews are usually picking on very easy targets. Something like Justice League or some other garbage. He never attempts to properly criticize something that is not an easy target.

That's the point of the ralpthemoviemaker main series. It picks on shit, but at least it's obscure shit unlike someone picking on The Room for the umpteenth time. The Gotti review was decent for actually explaining what it got wrong as a genre film. Although there is the recommends series he started which is more in line with what you're looking for.
