It's weird how everyone essentially had a negative opinion of "yuppies" at the time (the time the film is set in), and indeed the film, American Psycho, was a critique of that culture, yet today people only see it through a meme filter, and even celebrate it for all the wrong reasons. Based dubsman! For instance they watch the scene of all the VPs with prestigious, but meaningless, executive positions who are all jerking themselves over business cards and nothing clicks in their minds at all. There were even people in a thread recently actually arguing that American Psycho is a film that "blows out leftists". Goes to show how dumb modern movie-goers have truly become.

If you've listened to Bret Easton Ellis' podcast or read his interviews you realise he sort of glorifies in shit like this and wasn't too far removed from this sort of thing in the 80's himself. He's a very callous person who loves being abrasive and provocative. He was doing as much blow in the 80's as the rest of them. It may be a critique of the culture but I don't think he personally finds that much wrong with it.
