King of the Monsters has a production budget of 210 million, and marketing rumoured of around 70+ million. Even if you lowballed marketing at 50 million it would still put break even point at 520 million global.
If it did bumblebee numbers it would be a huge flop for the studio, and a not good sign with Godzilla vs Kong just finishing an expensive shooting.

I liked it more than the first one. It has more monster fights like most people wanted and the Humans IMO are more entertaining and engaging than in the first one. Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah looked pretty good too I thought.

I agree that the first one sucked hard. But this one required no set up and jumps right into Kaiju action, has better lighting to show off the kaiju designs and action, and has a better plot than the previous one.

I do think they used some cheap camera tricks a few times though, like a scene which would have involved Godzilla climbing up to the surface, but instead he just breaches the surface, they cut to show everyone looking upward as he rises, and then cutting back to him being on the surface. They do stuff like that a few times rather than show us what the people are looking at in awe.

Everyone agrees that the directing could have been better for some of the monster fights, particularly those involving Ghidorah and Godzilla, but it more than makes up for it with the scenes with the sound design and the times that it's them by themselves.
The Mothra and Rodan scenes are the best in any movie they've ever had.
