Yesterday I watched pic related and was genuinely wholly impressed and stunned by everything in this movie - from the cinematography, battles and decor, to the acting and the well-preserved spirit of the urban and provincial Roman life. It is one of these rare movies that you enjoy every single minute of and just cannot get bored for even a second throughout it, a complete 2 hours and 50 minutes of worthwhile cinematic experience. Is this unironically Scott's best?

Seriously, can we have at least some decent discussion about ancient history/epic drama war movies ffs? Really, fuck this monkey board with its all supplementary capeshit threads, GoT manure and whatnot fuckestry cretinous trends.

Gladiator is one of my favourite movies and the second last good film Ridley Scott made.

What do you want to talk about. Yeah Gladiator is fucking amazing, so what? Faggots on this board don't even like Scott's films, why would you want to talk with brainlets like that?

>Is this unironically Scott's best
No. For me, I'm going controversial and going to say American gangster

>Zimmer copies previous work
no shit, soundtrack is still pure kino

Why didn't he throw his second sword at the second guard? Instead he got imself injured.

you're just being a contrarian, American Gangster is a very good film but it's nowhere near his best

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius,
Commander of the Armies of the North,
General of the Felix Legions,
Loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius.
Father to a murdered son,
husband to a murdered wife.

in this life or the next.

What I also love is that it had 2 of the wildest actors of another generation. Oliver Reed ( who fucking drank himself to death at the time of filming) and Richard Harris.

As much is I love the film, I'm still not sure about the fact that he's making Gladiator 2. I got a gut feeling it's going to be shit.

It's never getting made, he has a million projects he's currently "working on"

>Gladiator 2
literally what? First I've heard of this. That senile old faggot better not ruin more of his movies

I think its because our familly is Russkie that this happens. Being raised around women who arent pussies is the best thing anyone can ask for

It has been in my top 5 since it came out and I've never wavered on that point

your dad is supposed to do this, where was he?

>Is this unironically Scott's best?
No, that's definitely Alien.
Scott's weak spot is balancing actors, scripts and the breathtaking spectacles he's able to produce. He can get great performances individually, but actually fleshing out a balanced cast + story has given him difficulties.
Kingdom of Heaven is probably the best example of this.
Gladiator features some highlights of his career, but it's way too self indulgent on the action scenes and the last quarter of the film is fairly predictable.
Alien is where he checks all the marks. Every character gives as much as needed, and the simpler story gave him the opportunity to utilize his full genius in design.

reminder that Blade Runner 2 was made, even after a 20 year legal battle lawsuit for the rights

>Maximus being reincarnated by the Roman gods and returned to Rome to defend Christians against persecution; then transported to other important periods in history, including World War II, the Vietnam War, and finally being a general in the modern-day Pentagon

Ridley's projects, 2019 (tv or film):
>remake of The Prisoner
>a S.Craig Zahler script ( Wraiths of the Broken Land) that combines "horror, noir, and Asian ultra-violence"
>RAF vs Luftwaffe: Dawn of Boomers
>The Merlin Saga for Disney, written by Phillipa "LOTR" Boyens
>Blade Runner 3
>Gladiator 2
>Alien Paradise
>Queen & Country with Charlize

>20 year legal battle lawsuit for the rights
bullshit

there's also a cartel film with DiCaprio, plus the countless sci-fi books rights he bought

You want me too pull out my copy of Future Noir, user?
Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin were trying to produce the sequel since 1998
