>It's an Episode of these two through all of human history
ABSOLUTE KINO!
Good Omens
Probably closet we will get to two time lords traveling through time and chilling
At least they made a wink to it with the Shakespeare scene.
>ywn get oysters with your bro in Ancient Rome, then return the treat by taking him to crepes during the French Revolution
Why are human lives so pathetically short?
anyone got a Webm of Tennet in the church? That was amazing
That reminds me, that series about the Night watch is still dead.
I haven't binged an entire show in years, about to watch the final episode, wish me luck bros
I got two left, I was going to break it up over a few days but god damn this is just so enjoyable
Too true, I can't help but love this show, the way Crowwley fucked with Hastor was great
They managed an amazing buddy chemistry. I'd watch the shit out of a show about them paling around history getting into trouble and drinking. This is a rare case where a prequel series could work if it just stays fun and comfy.
Also, Tennant needs to stick with roles where he can be over the top. He's so much fun to watch when he's in snarky eccentric mode.
that's a hot witch
Watched all six episodes. I liked the rapport between Sheen and Tennant. You can tell Tennant was having a blast playing Crowley. Jack Whitehall was actually bearable in this as well, and McKean killed it as Shadwell. I thought there would be no topping Clive Russell, but he did it. Sadly, the series was a let down when it came to Them. Adam sucked a big one. I care less that Pepper was blackwashed and more that her character was made into a turbo feminist and not the tomboy and protector of the Them that she was, though you couldn't really tell since they all got no characterization at all, even Adam, really, which is sad considering it's fucking Adam. Pretty disappointed in the Horsemen, too. All really did a piss poor job, and I'm extra miffed we didn't get Grievous Bodily Harm, Cruelty to Animals, Really Cool People, and Treading In Dogshit (formerly All Foreigners Especially The French, formerly Things Not Working Properly Even After You’ve Given Them A Good Thumping, never actually No Alcohol Lager, briefly Embarrassing Personal Problems, and finally People Covered in Fish. Also, Miranda Richardson is still hot. Overall, it was good. Lived up to my expectations, though the radio drama is still superior. Fuck, even the cast there looks more like their book counterparts than the TV show, but whatever.
And here's the cast from the radio drama. Here's Madam Tracy, Shadwell, Anathema, and Newt.
So I take it I would benefit from reading the book?
Your Horsemen.
>David Tennant
Alons 'y fuck off
like most things watch the adaption first and then read the source material. That way you don't get mad at the changes.
well I'm not as far as you, I have liked the introductions to the 4 horsemen. And the kids are....fine...but they were never the draw of the book either, they were just what everything circled around
You should. There's a lot more jokes that didn't make it into the show. Like why they keep playing snippets of Queen's music. They also cut out an entire scene about the biker gangs, which again, I understand since you got to make adaptations leaner.
To be fair, the kids being irrelevant were kinda the point. Adam's just a normal kid because of his normal upbringing. I found the kids to be weaker part of the novel as well.
Absolutely. The Them are much more fleshed out, and the confrontation between the Horsemen and Them is much more well done and makes a ton more sense. We even find out that Baby C plays a pivotal roll in the plot as well, albeit from the background. It was a very good adaptation overall, though. Faithful for very much of it. Here's the radio version of the Them
Oh god. I was fucking diamond hard whenever she was on screen.
is the whole show good? heard someone say it falls off in the middle some
See, I much enjoyed the Adam and the Them parts of the book. I love how we see the world through Adam's innocent eyes and how his experiences help him shape things. Granted it's done in the show, but the book did a much better job of it. I'd even argue that the heart of the book is equally the relationship between Crowley and Azirapahle, and the nature of Adam. Both Crowley and Aziraphale are in conflict with their celestial and demonic identities, as is Adam as he copes with his human side fighting against his demonic DNA. And something about the Them sections always had me nostalgic for my youth and playing around outside with my friends just coming up with whatever we could imagine.
Thanks for the responses, yeah I'd kind of just assumed that it was a fairly 1:1 translation so I wasn't planning on reading the book, but I'm gonna make sure I do
it's been a while since I read the book, but I had no attachment to Adam and Them at all. I found the book was most interesting when it was with Crowly and Aziraphale and with Anathema and Pulcifer.
They're wrong. It's good the whole way through. I know I'm being critical holding it up against the book and the radio drama, but it really did exceed my expectations. Terry would've been proud.
The book is worth reading for the footnotes alone. They did a good job of translating them for the screen by having God narrate them, but she only did a small fraction of them.
it's never 1:1 but Gaiman wrote the screenplay for this.
alright I'll check it out then after I finish up Deadwood, abandoning thread now
Jon Hamm was so perfect as Gabriel
>I am here to buy....
>pornography
>yes, Pornography!
Much like Stardust, I actually prefer the changes that were made. I always said Stardust's movie was better than the book. I enjoyed the happier ending, rather than the melancholy one the book had. I really liked how Adam defeated Satan in the show. At least they explained it here where in the book LOL Adam waved his hand and it's all over. I also liked The Switch as well. Suspected it from the get go, but the delivery was spot on. Can I also add that Jon Hamm absolutely killed it? I know everyone is raving about Sheen and Tennant, but Jon Hamm was hamming it up himself (no pun intended) and it seemed like he was loving every minute of this. I think that's why this is so well received. It seemed like everyone was genuinely having the time of their lives making this.
Just the fact that there are footnotes makes me want to read it, it's one of the reasons I enjoyed the Bartimeus trilogy, and Mr. Norrel and Strange(I think it was called)
That would explain why it seemed so well done
The casting choice in the show is great in general. Death managed to really establish why the rest call him Lord even with the small amount of scenes he got.
>Can I also add that Jon Hamm absolutely killed it?
Jesus we are on the same wavelength for most of this here. I'm just about to start ep 5
Pratchett loves his footnotes joke. Certainly should check out his Discworld series if you love that shit.
ya, I'll admit that is one thing I miss about the show, you can't really work those in as much. But it makes me want to reread the book
I've wanted to get into them for a while, I just don't even know where to start, I read the first book of his parallel world series, which I think he co-wrote, and I really enjoyed it
>Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
WHERE THE FUCK IS MY SEQUEL, CLARKE?
Thank you, and I fucking doubt it will ever happen, we'd have better luck getting fat fuck to finish GoT, FFS I was in high school when I read strange and Norrell
read Wee Free Men, you don't have to worry much about continuity and it will give you a taste of Discoworld
>Discoworld
where did that extra o come from? I can't type anymore
Did you ever watch the show? I think I made it 3 episodes in before getting bored with it, a shame because I was excited about it when it came out
It was pretty good. Is American Gods worth watching?
Well discoworld seems like a series I'd also enjoy, but thanks for the recommendation I'll check it out
I gotta say, the way they did Crowly's care is 110% perfect, the way it slightly warps when speeding everywhere is great.
yes, very good. But this is more enjoyable cause it the pacing in American Gods is slightly too slow IMO.
I got bored with it, but that might just be because I already knew the plot ahead of time
Well I'm pretty sure this is about to get archived, I just wanna say thanks for letting me finally move from lurker to poster, you fags will always hold a special place in my heart
I hate Yea Forums but fuck, this show deserves more talk besides race threads
Is this show actually good? Is it Pratchett kino?
very good, Pratchett deserves more tv/movies but has been snubbed for a long time and deserves this big win
So we can all agree that the best Horseman is Famine?
Make sure you only read the 20th century discworld books (ie finish with The Fifth Elephant). They fall off badly in the 21st century. The very first one Colour of Magic is a bit different than the rest but it's still good place to start.
>I've never seen so many rich people so hungry
Of the 4, his scene is also my favorite in the novel. Too bad they cut out the bit about an anorexic model talking about being his fan.
Dude, no. They only really got good midway through. The earlier ones are mostly fine but I think Hogfather is the point where they get actually great. Night Watch and Thud are probably his best books.
While I agree with you do give the man some credit: he was then dying of brain rot.
Men at Arms is probably my favourite book of all time. If you don’t tear up in the ice house then you’re not human
The Last Hero and Interesting Times a best.
Lords and Ladies is fine too.
Rincewind is the best.
>Night Watch and Thud are probably his best books.
No that's Men at Arms or Small Gods.
Fucking agreed, Rincewind doesn't get enough credit. Everyone's always dickriding the Watch. Last Continent was a good finish for him.
>Yea Forums actually talking Pratchett
I am fucking surprised
My favorite word in the english language is ineffable and I love how they are playing with it in this final episode
oh wow...I did not see them setting up another series after this. But that was pretty well done. And if Gaiman will continue to write it, then I am down for it.
The Last Hero is probably my favorite. I really enjoyed Tiffany Aching's 4 books too.
one of my favorite parts of the book is when Famine is throwing away one of his food-less burgers after examining it, and there's a line that's something like, "and if someone had told him that there were starving children in Africa, he would have been flattered that you'd noticed."
Good Omens has been my favorite book ever since my uncle passed down his worn, beaten up copy when I was a kid. I got it signed when Neil Gaiman visited my college. 31 year old oldfag now. The show lived up to my expectations and hype, which were pretty damn high. I love it.
mfw no mort mention
Any Discworld without a Josh Kirby cover isn't worth reading.
