Because Micheal Bay

In Deep Impact it was the reverse. They just had robots do the drilling for them. Engineering, bitch!

Because being an astronaut is easy compared to drilling oil. Being an astronaut is just about learning to deal with the Gs and going thru some pre-prescribed checklists, and being able to keep you cool. Being a good driller requires real work ethic, intelligence, and experience. It was much easier to teach the drillers to be astronauts than the other way around. haha just kidding but there are always absolute retards who say this kinda shit whenever these threads get made

>I DON WANNA CLOSE MUH EYES

i mean they had school teachers and non astronauts go to space irl so long as they had a few nasa guys to pilot the ship (as in the film) it'd be fine

Because Bruce Willis's character explained it

Why didn't they just send a mixed team of both drillers and astronauts?

Shut the fuck up, Ben Affleck

SHUT THE FUCK UP BEN!

i know. in the movie, they literally did not train the drillers to be astronauts. they just trained them to not shit their pants and die

except that is the reason. as long as they're not piloting the vessel, they're good to go.

hell, even that gimp scientists they made a movie about with that wizard from the marvel movies did some zero-g "astronuat" stuff.

Oil drillers are more expendable than costly astronauts.

It's easy to be an asstronaut compared to a bad ass driller.

t. bastard from a basket

At least they made an effort to explain why, since Bruce Willis was just brought on to be an advisor and said they needed his specialists. And that was for a late 90s action schlock.
In movies now they give no explanation and call you an incel for asking.

Kek. Based.

cause Bruce Willis told them to.
when he's bitching about how NASA stole his design.
Basically he said i wont go without my crew.

How hard can drilling be? Aim the drill at the ground and turn it on

Zoomer faggot, real men cry to the ending along with this song.

cause it didnt matter.
if they succeeded then they look like heroes and if they fail fuck it.

it was a pr move

How hard can being an austranaut be? Aim the rocket up in the sky and light it up.

because fuck you

Shut the fuck up Ben

>saving the world is a PR move, who cares whether it works
???

Every oil worker I've met was borderline retarded. They'd work in the fields for a couple months and drop everything they'd made on a new $80,000 f450 super duty mall crawler. They'd end up addicted to drugs because they get bored out in the boonies because there's literally nothing to do in whatever shit town they're set up at. Most of them end up bankrupt in a few years or get injured in some workplace accident. Anyways the point is they wouldn't be smart enough to be astronauts.

Why didn't they simply use the eagles to drill?

honestly based

>austranaut

this

based. is there more?

>they can build rocket ships but they don't understand what makes a good tranny
kek

I mean it is true though. Being an astronaut is difficult because space flight and exploration is extremely expensive. They only send up the most intelligent and highly qualified scientists. What do you think they
re doing up there in the ISS? They are conducting various scientific experiments. That's all an astronaut is -- a scientist trained to live and work in space. Why is it such a stretch that they should just teach oil drillers how to live and work in space rather than teaching chemists/physicists/biologists/etc. how to drill? They wouldn't. It's easier to train someone to work in space than it is to train someone in an entirely new field.

Is Ben into traps?

I should have said becoming an astronaut is difficult rather than being an astronaut is difficult. Both are true but the point is that everyone thinks BEING an astronaut is the most difficult thing on the planet because not many people get to do it. The reason for that is because space programs only want to invest in the most highly qualified, decorated individuals. The most highly qualified and decorated individuals for the task in Armageddon are not existing astronauts who are versed in astrophysics or chemistry or biology. They need to train new ones.

They don't need to be smart, they just need to drill in space

tranny=transmission

Yeah, sure, why not.

If you consider it, being an astronaut really is that simple when you exclude their technical abilities that make them useful for the mission. It's more about being healthy enough and having the ability to handle stress. That's why they don't have a farm of astronauts taught different skills rather than forming their astronauts from people that already possess the needed profession.

>being an astronaut is easy when you exclude all their astronaut abilities
you don't say

>being a physicist means you're an astronaut
Astronauts are professionals trained to operate in space.

>astronaut abilities
What are you talking about? He's saying their technical abilities that make them useful for whatever the mission is. So if they're testing soil samples on the moon you would want biochemists. It's not like astronauts are everything. They are one thing, totally separate from any space programme. They go about their life doing that thing. And they can apply and get chosen to become astronauts for specific purposes.

they are pilots, mostly

Why would you let some blue collar retard pilot your space ship when you can train an astronaut to do it.

Just shut the fuck up

Not even close, ESL-kun.

They didn't.

They mostly USED to be pilots because the missions were basically just to get to space, orbit some shit, etc. Ever since the ISS has become operation scientists and engineers are much more valuable. Also it's disingenuous to say "they are pilots". That's not all they are. They pursue degrees in the hard sciences on top of piloting.

Calm down. It's a legitimate question no reason to get so angry.

Why didn't they just let the asteroid hit? Such things should not be interfered with

>its a legitimate question
No it isn't. You don't understand what an astronaut is.

I went to a maritime academy and flight school where I worked closely with a few astronauts. You can learn to roughneck in like 3 months.

IM LEAVING, ON A JET PLANE

DON'T KNOW WHEN I'LL BE BACK AGAIN

This is true. I'm a former rig pig. In the real world I am very average intelligence. On the rigs I'm a fucking super genius.

>laser owen smg
it's the little things

How do I get a job at an oil rig as a 19 year old NEET?

they didn't. kill yourself reddit. they just sat there and the astronauts did all the astronaut shit

Drilling is hard.

Because the oil drillers were willing to take huge paydays but it was a SUICIDE MISSION you niglet so astronauts didn't want to go, and were probably on reserve in case SHTF to create breakaway civ.
