It's a total trainwreck of an adaptation that was shit on by everyone who made it so it's automatically classified as trash by generic lists. If you actually watch it it's just a painfully average movie, but considering what they had to work with it becomes a really interesting attempt. And even with the actors phoning it in they still outact almost every other video game adaptation for the next decade because even at their worst they were amazing at their job. It's something special.

it is a disjointed sloppy kids film. One example that sticks in my head. The mario bros escape the police station after being interviewed by koopa. Cut to koopa in a mud bath being told this. Koopa was just there. Im sure if I dug I could find more inconsistencies and hiccups in the film, but just isn't strong.
