I didn't catch a good look on his face, he could look really unsettling if the face is as elongated as the rest of his frontal body.

Good. Long time no see. If we count Leo as a separate monster that is I don't think there's a perfect answer to this question same with Mecha-King Ghidorah. Sometimes monster can have various versions accross different continuities or more than one can appear in a movie but can still be counted as one copyrighted character.

There seems to be a split with this movie. I wasn't on Yea Forums when 2014 came out so I can't comment on the reaction then, but with this movie there seems to be sort of a split. I think one major thing is that people expected even more fights than we got, but I don't think many of the fights of the old era were even that good upon rewatches. And yeah they cut away here a lot but I didn't find it terribly invasive.

I'd ask those genuine fans, what did the Showa era movies, which is generally considered the best era, do better than this film? It certainly can't be the fights because they don't really hold up at all. Was it that many of the movies in that era embraced the cheesy factor while KotM took it too seriously? Was it that the characters, though maybe not entirely memorable( I for one can only remember a few of characters from the franchise and that is Miki, the goofy dude in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2, Father and Daughter in GMK, and The twins), weren't a part of the now quips era we're in now with th films?

I remember seeing the movie for the first time and being surprised at how underwhelmed I was. I had heard the action was great but it was just Godzilla shitting on the military for the millionth time, and curb stomping Baragon, Mothra, and a smaller far less impressive Ghidorah. And didn't they even go under water at one point, only for Ghidorah to immediately get blown up once they resurfaced?

I rewatched a couple of Millennium the other day and you can tell how they started adopting acting cues and tropes from anime. I actually like Tokyo SOS, but the constantly pissed off guy who shows off his speed at catching flies was hilarious.

Some of the fights are humorous but I would never consider them good. The Heisei era was beam spam central, and the much loved film in the series vs Biollante fights were a bunch of nothing but mostly vine tangling and Godzilla blasting through Biollante with beams. Might need to go back and watch Millenium to see how those hold up.

You should absolutely watch the '54 one but this movie is not a sequel to it. It IS a sequel to the 2014 Godzilla movie, so you might want to watch that. It also has Skull Island references. Those are the only "prequels" but it is not 100% necessary.

He's not trolling in that you should see it because it's a fantastic moment in the history of film, but you don't need to see anything to enjoy this movie, my friends didn't at least. It couldn't hurt to watch as summary of the 2014 one from whatever YouTuber you find the least insufferable, but know that this one fixes the problems with it

They're good movies user, of course watching the older films will give you a greater appreciation for the Kaiju that show up in the modern films.

But if you really want to see this new one its pretty stand alone and entry level friendly. As long as you go in knowing there was a Godzilla attack in 2014 you'll be fine.

Skull Island had a broad daylight final fight and it looked absolutely fine. They were just going for the cool radiation/lightning storm aesthetic at the climax of this one. It was still bright and everything was perfectly visible. Only the first fight was one to complain about in terms of darkness and it was fine too.

Just got back from seeing it. It was the most disappointing thing since Godzilla 2014. Two hours of plot, story, exposition, and character development; 20 minutes of monsters fighting. And the 20 minutes of monsters fighting were continuously interrupted by people doing shit. I cannot believe people had the balls to say there was TOO MUCH monster fighting in the movie. I am so fucking mad I am shaking. Can't wait for Kong Vs. Godzilla with 15 minutes of monster action.
