just saw this last night, have never seen any godzilla movies, went with friend who's a big fan.
holy shit though I want to see them all now, where would I even start, there's something like 60 years of godzirra there's probably some that I should skip right?
but anyway the movie was amazing, I especially liked how that bitch doctor lady got put in her place after she called humans an infection even though her own intervention in waking the monsters was just as unnatural as anything humans at large have done
also critics' opinions are worthless, I see that now, and I can't say I'm biased because like I said I had never seen a godzilla movie before.
Look up a top 10 movies on google, but do watch the 2014 previous movie and the shin godzilla from 2016.
Tyler Parker
This. Also the very first one. For the others it's better do your own research and see what interests you, Goji is all over the place. Personally I really like Godzilla vs Biollante.
Welcome to the fandom user! A must watch is the original Gojira and the modern take of Godzilla in a current political climate for Japan, shin Godzilla. Those 2 get the best on the horror of what Godzilla is. But from pure enjoyment wise for myself without me being objective here’s my top 10. 1. Gojira 2. Destroy All Monsters 3. Ghidorah the 3 headed monster 4. GMK 5. Godzilla vs Biollante 6. Final Wars (balls to the wall matrix action) 7. Mothra vs Godzilla 8. Godzilla vs Destroyah 9. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 10. Godzilla vs Hedorah (super trippy and weird)
Jack Murphy
Based boy welcome to monster island. Glad you liked it. Start from the start and work your way through them all. For me, it’s Showa era Godzilla
Nathaniel Mitchell
good stuff thanks guys
Wyatt Walker
>shin godzilla does this one have any connection to 2014 or the newest one?
Charles Evans
No
Parker Cook
He is going to fuck Mothra and make Godzilla raise their mutt, one day. Shitzillafags fear the real king. Cap this.
Help me out anons. I enjoyed the 2014 movie and I enjoyed this one as well but I cannot put my finger on it...something about this movie just doesn't hit home like all the other ones do and I'm not sure why. As I said I did enjoy it, but the "wonderment" and "omg" moments weren't there for me like it was in the 2014 movie. Is it fatigue? Is it that they played this one too seriously compared to other "Monster royale" godzilla flicks? I don't know. I still enjoyed it, enjoyed it a lot, but it didn't feel that there was that "magic" there.
Jonathan Roberts
this guy was wrecked by a carpet bomb though
Matthew Gonzalez
so it's a standalone? that's fine, just making sure
Not at all. Shin is part of Toho's original run of films. 2014 Godzilla is the start of an American made series by Legendary. It's it's own series of films including Kong: Skull Island and KOTM
Charles Perry
If I'm not mistaken Shin Godzilla is a reboot of the actual Toho franchise. If it's not a reboot it's a re-imagining of the original.
Adrian Howard
ok very cool I'm assuming it takes place in Japan then? and is subtitled? if so that's perfect
what is the relationship between skull island and godzilla?
Sebastian Edwards
He was already in a Godzilla movie. He was just called Muto for some and was turned from white to black.
Cameron Brooks
not too spoilery but at the end of the current movie during the credits it shows newspaper headlines about a bunch of kaiju gravitating towards skull island
Fuck Off. We don't want zoomer faggots in this fandom.
Isaac Cox
kys you cock guzzling faggot
Lincoln Garcia
Personal suggestions from me are:
>Original >Mothra vs Godzilla (1964) >Godzilla vs Biollante >(Godzilla vs King Ghidorah 1991 if you can tolerate some very strange human plot) >Godzilla against Mechagodzilla and Tokyo S.O.S >Shin Godzilla
and also Final Wars if you just want balls-to-the-wall action
Heisei era is kino but I really like classic gigan, ghidorah, and mechagodzilla movies
Adam Hall
not him but the monster was presumably destroyed by the attack at the end of the movie. dont think the movie actually confirmed if it was a nuke or not but it seemed like it. you could hear the creature crying out, a weird noise it hadnt made at any other point in the movie
James Gutierrez
fuck your general faggotry I don't care how good the topic is it's why I always make my own star trek threads
generals on boards not meant for general devolve into shit in seconds flat where's my check then shithead?
Ayden Brown
Shin Godzilla is set in Japan, yes. There is a Japanese subtitled version and an English dubbed one.
Liam Hall
It's the new monster island
Gavin Jenkins
>I want to see them all now >where would I even start Not trying to be an asshole, but if you want to see all. Just watch those on order. Should be pretty obvious. Just keep in mind that 98% of those won't be anything like the latest american movie or the 2 before that.
Grayson Barnes
Not an argument.
Dominic Myers
not trying to have an arguement, just talking about the monster in the movie
Noah Rogers
OP, see It's the best thing in this thread
Wyatt Taylor
I saved it thank you
Anthony Reed
It is its own one off thing, those are pretty common in this franchise. Guess that the biggest difference with Shin when compared to other one offs is that storywise it isn't a sequel to 1954 Godzilla.
Aiden Turner
These are the films available on Criterion
Which ones are actually worth watching?
Already seen the incredible original, as well as Shin and Godzilla 2014 which are also great
while you are at it, go watch Godzillathon as well
Ethan Murphy
see and
Colton Roberts
Rodan (not part of Godzilla series but still great) Mothra vs Godzilla Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster Invasion of Astro-Monsters War of the Gargantuas (not part of Godzilla series but still great) The X from Outer Space (same as above) Destroy All Monsters Godzilla vs Megalon (only if you're fine with extreme cheesiness) Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla Terror of Mechagodzilla
Isaiah Wood
Thanks bros
Thought KoTM was as awful as any Bayformers film, but I still love what I’ve seen of Godzilla and want to be Moreno familiar with the series
