No one wants to see Dany vs Jon: the audience rejected it in the show on the most instinctive level possible. GRRM can set it up all he wants, but he can't force the audience to be pleased that it happens.

Stannis is in a MUCH better position in the books than he was in the show. He has half the Northern houses's support, and the Manderlys and Umbers are on the verge of defecting to him as well, plus he's just signed a deal with the Iron Bank in the Theon WoW chapter. Plus Shireen and Melly are still back at the wall so he's not burning her.

May only concern is that in the Theon sample chapter he's still kind of brushing off Theon's warnings about Ramsay, that kind of hubris can't be good.
