Of course a film should stand on its merits, but in today's climate, with how everything is so goddamn politicized, it is not unreasonable to call out these kind of people who will just shit on something regardless of its quality but rather because of its perceived politics.

false equivalence. A critic has one job, to critique a movie. A movie can have any bent it wants, but it will still be of some quality. A good movie will always be a good movie.
