What movie?

2010 Three Kingdoms tv series

Attached: BOBBY AND THE BOAR.png (564x420, 22K)

Is Three Kingdoms better than GoT?

No, and it's often very campy but the story is a classic and the production values are actually pretty damn high for chink TV. I recommend it mainly on the virtue of watching based Cao Cao fuck over his opponents.

Reminder to all that this shit is free on jewtube. Worth a watch imo if you have nothing better. youtube.com/watch?v=GcZ2zq82ebA

FUCK SHU-NIGGERS

It can take a little while to get into and as stated previously the acting at times as mega camp but its honestly not bad. Great shit to download for long car rides or flights.

The 2010 version of 3K is from a time when all Chinese series were produced at Soap-Opera pace, it took them like one year to shoot the whole thing, which is way bigger than the entirety of GOT to begin with.
Quality is all over the place as a result of that.
It's great when it's great and it's awful when it's awful.
Still, it never completely drop the ball like GOT did in its second half.
Kinda hard-carried by a couple of actors though.

Attached: 1553356460412.webm (852x480, 2.84M)

I don't think I've ever watched a TV series with that many episodes.
LotGH being the exception.

Chen Jianbin's Cao Cao is one of the main reasons I continued to watch the show.

Excellent thread OP

>took them like one year
Fucking how? I mean I get that the story was already written but still.

Yep, and then it's Ni Dahong's Sima Yi after his death
Few recycled sets, recycled CG, recycled battle scenes, recycled extras (there's a guy with like 10 different roles), lazy shooting with few simple soap-opera camera angles and no set-up shots etc.
You can immediately see the difference in quality if you compare to some more recent 3K show.

Anyone know if the japanese 2014 version (CAO CAO) is any good?

There a no good subtitles, the ones available are Google Translate tier.
Only heard bad things about the show anyway.
The Advisors Alliance is just amazing though.

i meant to start that ages ago since the company just hosts and subtitles it for free on youtube
how does it compare to three kingdoms 2010?

It's a very different series since it's focused on Sima Yi and it's not a straight adaptation of the novel.
Quality wise though, no fucking comparison, acting, costumes, writing and direction is consistently top notch for a Chinese series.
It's the best Chinese television has ever put out, even better than Nirvana in Fire for my taste.

Fucking christ they made another one? What is that, three versions now?

Huh, I only knew of the 1990s and 2010 ones before this thread. Are any good other than the newer Sima Yi one?

How many times was BAAAOOO shouted in that fucking series? Must've been at least a hundred.

Not sure about all the older ones (there are actually two series just about Cao Cao for example), but most of the recent are extreme cheese.
Watch this entire scene, seriously, it hurts my brain

Any recommendations?

Do the Chinese have anything cultural story outside of the Romance Saga and Journey to the West?

Attached: lenny.jpg (724x513, 235K)

The Story of Han Dynasty (the director of 3K 2010 also made his own version titled Legend of Chu and Han right after 3K, it's on Netflix)
The Qin Empire (can't find the sub for the first season anymore, but you can watch the second one which centered around a slightly different period)
Nirvana in Fire (not strictly historical but still)
The Great Revival
List could probably go on but I haven't seen that many series, I've seen more Taiga Drama even though they are usually quite bad.
Yes, there are like ten gorillion new series based upon the same 3 Jin Yong novels every year for example, let alone Justice Bao, Detective Dee and the likes.
Water Margin / Journey to the West / Three Kingdoms / A Dream of Red Mansions all have many adaptations due to their cultural status, but they are far from being the most overused subjects.

Yeah he's written as being pretty fucking dumb, his cousin(brother?) keeps doing dumb shit that gets them both in trouble with the coalition.

Overall enjoyable. It's a shame many episodes were cut. You could even find stills of the murder scenes that were off screen online, too bad for censorship.
Heard they are making a season 2 to show some of the missing contents though.

The Falun Gong have essentially turned their treatment into some sort of musical theater.

yea but America only cares about things they see from martial arts, capeshit or video games so that's the only thing that's actually marketable outside China

Why does the CCP do this?

They have various media featuring Chinese folklore, deities and on history depicting the lives of those living in the various different dynasties of that time.

Attached: water margin.jpg (1280x720, 137K)

The outfits were too revealing for women of that time period. I read that the show cost like $50million to make and was reduced to just headshots in the end...

Investiture of the Gods, Spring and Autumn Annals and it's commentaries, Water Margin.

If they're aware of the a-historicity and that the government will censor them then why do it in the first place?

Back in 1990, the Chinese Film Industry- which had the backing of the government- literally built a city's worth of period sets and landscapes in what is now known as Hengdian World Studios. The place is absolutely massive containing replicas of cities, palaces, castles, and villages from multiple Chinese periods. The crowning piece being a fullscale replica of the Forbidden City. And they're also now expanding to make foreign-settings like copies of European medieval cities and such.

This place is where literally all of the Chinese Period Soaps and some films shoot their shit in. Also the film Industries of Korea and Japan have filmed stuff there for sometime now as well.

Attached: Hengdian World Studios.jpg (2160x1074, 2.56M)

>The outfits were too revealing for women of that time period.
Nope.jpg.

The Tang Dynasty is famous for women going full Thot. Confucianists in later dynasties blamed this upon the "degeneracy" caused by the wealth of the Tang Dynasty. Women experimented with daring designs such as figure hugging dresses (massive no no in earlier dynasties, look how they all hide the body) and exposed necklines and cleavages

The entire Qin Dynasty rebellion was really just the citizens of annexed/conquered countries chimping out once Qin Shihuang died and his son turned out to be ineffectual. Also, despite Liu Bang winning and getting deified as the Great Ancestor, Xiang Yu was always portrayed respectfully except when he's chimping out.

He has the jovialness and bloodthirst(quite literally) of Bobby but the cruel streak of Joffs

Rise of Sima Yi.

So what, Cao Pi's death then?

Hmm... I remember Sima Yi taking his time, waiting for CaoCao sons to die, then his grandson I think... then the emperor was a child and Sima Yi made his move. Then the show makes a fastforward to Sima Yi's death from old age and a voice over tells us what happens later and the rise of the Jin dinasty.

Unfortunate for Sima Yi, his empire didn't last very long also. Turn out karma does exist, his great grandson Sima Zhong was bona fide retard and he still get the throne of Sima's Jin Dynasty, which led to a civil war between Simas that tear the empire apart again!

I wonder why

They were going to kill them, it was justified

>when the emperor summons Liu Bei in the toilet

Attached: 1547014299690.jpg (499x499, 27K)

He was probably the biggest retard in a position of authority. Zhang Fei would be Lu Bu tier if he was a warlord, wouldn't last very long, but even Yuan Shao wasn't as retarded as his stepbrother. Dong Zhuo was actually cunning in some respects, it's just that he was an idiot regarding Lu Bu.

I don't know, old Donggers was convinced Cao Cao was just trying to present him a nice knife while he was asleep and alone. Fortunately Lu Bu was there for him during his brain attack.

Anyone knows of that post RoTK era series about Cao Cao's family life and how his favourite son gets cucked and fucked when he bites it? I remember the plot as Cao Cao having two sons, one of them loves a beautiful lady while the other married a whore. The whore advice the other son to get in his father good grace and cucked his brother, marrying his wife. In death, Cao Cao finally comes around and like the cucked son, but he is nearing death and can't do anything. He orders his servants to put his favourite son on the throne after he dies, but the other son takes over just because. The servants of Cao Cao ask the cucked son to rise up, and if needed they could help him kill his brother, but the cucked son was afraid of war, and so he handed his brother the throne and dies in sadness because his waifu is fucked by his brother. The loyal servants of Cao Cao was so angry, they killed themselves for failing Cao Cao final words

An unfilial merchant nestorian shanyu Wei general was approaching Changban bridge, known Shu-Han clay. "Before I begin my assault, you must kowtow to Prime Minister Cao Cao and accept that he was the most filial and righteous scholar-gentleman the Tianxia has ever known, even more deserving of the position than the sage ministers of Chu and Zhou!"

At this moment a brave, filial, loyal general who had served 25 northern campaigns and understood the teachings of the Sun Bin Fa and fully upheld the Han barred the bridge and held up his polearm. "Let anyone who seeks death come face Zhang Fei!"
The Wei general smirked quite usurperly and smugly replied: "the prime minister has issued an edict naming you traitor, you stupid Yellow Turban."
"Wrong. Cao Cao has usurped the throne and trampled the dignity of the imperial majesty, ten-thousand years of life to his glory!"

The Wei general was visibly shaken and dropped his sword and copy of Sima Yi's orders. He galloped in retreat crying those Wei crocodile tears. The same tears Wei generals cry for the Xuchang "court" (who today live in such rebellion that most do not sacrifice to the imperial progenitor) when they jealously try to compose memorandums to the hostage throne. There is no doubt that at this point our general, Xiahou Jie, wished he had supported the imperial house and become more than a traitor to the Han. He wished so much that he had not betrayed the Son of Heaven, but he himself had petitioned for Wei's ascendancy!

The common people applauded and all kowtowed to Chengdu that day and accepted Liu Bei as the Imperial Uncle. A phoenix named "Pang Tong" flew onto the bridge and shed a tear on the peach garden. The Sworn Brothers oath was recited several times, and Liu Bang himself showed up and founded a dynasty that would last 10,000 years across Tianxia. The Wei general lost his courage and died the next day. He died of fright and traitorousness and was tossed into Diyu for all eternity.

He wasn't presented as hero at all in this (thankfully). In fact, it's alluded to that the "noble warrior wanting save the Han" is just an act on his part and all he cares about is power. But deep down he is still a good guy. I love Liu Bei, they made him a very complex character in this.

Why do these children have painted beards and mustaches?

>all he cares about is power
It's kinda the point of the entire thing. I don't get why people try to categorise everything as either good or bad. It's like Hollywood movies/popular TV shows turned people into retards

It's a parody of a really significant part of the story. The kid cutting all the pleb kids is Cao Cao.

It's not about CG dragons and muh empowered women so yes. Also not a single gay sex scene in it.

Considering he was the most powerful man in the region and managed to lose everything?
Yes. Yes he was.

In my cao cao game I vassalized then annexed that bitch.

>t. unfilial Wei scum
The Imperial Uncle did not lust for power- after all he could have taken Tao Qian's and Liu Biao's lands but chose not to. The Restoration of the Han was the only thing in his mind, comparing hi to the national villain Cao Cao is an insult to all Under Heaven.

Zhuge really liked to use fire during the Nanman campaign. There was also that one time when the Nanman had some weird ass armor on them that deflected all blows and arrows. He then figured out it was flammable as hell and burned tens of thousands of soldiers alive after luring them into a valley.

Liu Bei is a noble scion of the imperial family upon whom the Emperor has conferred rank, as is recorded in the annals. Beside, the very founder of the dynasty was himself of lowly origin, and yet he became emperor. Where is the shame in being a peasant? Your mean, immature views are unfit to be mentioned in the presence of scholars of standing.

It was kinda fun to see him lose his shit though.
>WHY BOTHER PICKING THAT UP, HE WILL JUST FLIP IT OVER AGAIN WHEN HE THROWS ANOTHER TANTRUM!

5th of May is Stupid's Day

>Dude join my club!
O-okay

Well spoken, sage scholar. Truly, any filial gentleman recognises the authority of the Imperial Uncle over the treacherous Sun and Cao families, who seem to be intent on destroying instead of restoring the Han

Not necessarily a brainlet, he vasically swindled Han Fu out of his whole province, he just was way too proud to listen to good advice and kept pushing harder rather than consolidate when he needed to.

For me it's Hokuto no ken, then again you can drop a good 15 recap episodes out of 110

What a chad.

So should I torrent it instead?

Mine was some Xiliang rebel boy during the Rebellion of Liang Province. My horse took an arrow so I was on foot, slogging through the mud. He came running at me, this dumb low-born lad, thinking he could win the rebellion with a single swing of his sword. I knocked him down with the club. Gods, I was strong then.

Caved in his breastplate. Probably shattered every rib he had. Stood over him, club in the air. Right before I brought it down he shouted, "Wait! Wait!". They never tell you how they all shit themselves. They don't put that part in the poems. Stupid boy.

If you can find it sure. Doubt you're gonna find it elsewhere.

Now the barbarian tribes kowtow like everyone else. He could have lingered on the edge of the battle with the smart boys, and today his wife would be making him miserable, his sons would be ingrates, and he'd be waking three times in the night to piss into a bowl.

also fucked his rebellious councillor's daughter and cucked his top general at the same time

Now the Qiang are subdued like everyone else. He could have lingered in his mountain hovel with the smart boys and today his wife would be making him miserable. His sons would be unfilial and he would wake up three times in the night to piss into a bowl.

His wife who deserves much better is great in the series, too

Is Zhang Liao based in the series?

not that much
it doesnt adapt he fei

nah, they gloss over him for wu/shu wankery

i'd say Wei's best looking warrior in the series is probably Xu Chu who isn't portrayed as a drooling fat retard

They're all named wu shu dong and shit like that. When I see their face I usually remember who the fuck that is, but when they're just referenced in dialogue I'm generally clueless who the fuck shu wu dong is

which release was this?

Maybe you're just racist?

Hell yeah I am

It comes with watching the media and getting familiar with it I suppose. I've been into three kingdoms related stuff for the last 20 years so I can recognize/remember the courtesy names of characters at this point

Is it true the 1994 version is better? I already have the 2010 version all downloaded and I don't feel like tracking down a torrent/subs of the old one.

>hey, I think Cao Cao was trying to assassinate me, how do I test his loyalty?

>You know, this guy tried to kill me, but I think he's still trustworthy. What do?

I think the whole assassination attempt speaks for itself in terms of trustworthiness

Well you've got me Yea Forums. I'm now on episode 2. It seems pretty disjointed and I find myself stopping to google some characters since I don't know too much about the three kingdom period but really enjoying it.

I appreciated the attempt

Thank you. I thought weifags were easier to bait

Attached: me.png (680x564, 462K)

How long are the episodes?

45 minutes.

what is the best kingdom and why is it wu?

It's (Shu) Han you traitorous fool. At least Cao Cao is interesting as a villain, Wu has nothing going for it.

Han failed and lost the mandate of heaven. Shu had no right to exist.

>descendants of sun tzu

Literally you

But he also feels bad about and thinks heaven would take a few years from his life to punish him for that...
So him burning barbarians alive is kinda the reason why he couldn't defeat Sima Yi in the novel.
He has also killed his adoptive son Liu Feng, who was way more closely related to the emperor than him, before proclaiming himself the legitimate successor.
Also, the Mandate of Heaven was with Cao Wei, ancient historians agree, otherwise you would also have gaps in the succession.
Historically they try to rob him, so it's okay.
Big word.
>she actually does it
I'm glad the series went on long enough to have her whole family murdered by based Zhang Liang.

Attached: 1550809209244.jpg (700x825, 113K)

How can this series be actually somewhat decent/good to watch? It uses repeated scenes, sometimes flipping the angle, the same music, horrible CGI, mediocre acting from some characters... yet I still enjoy it? How?

>Dong Zhuo's body was displayed in the city center. Dong Zhuo was fat and in the heat his fat flowed onto the ground. The men guarding the corpse made a great lamp and set it up on Dong Zhuo's navel and lit it, and it burned clear and bright till dawn. This went on for several days.

This is an auspicious sign to all who would turn their backs on the doddering coots of Shu.

Get thee behind me, Satan.

Vastly superior but also not a very fair comparison

Clearly the scholarly paucity of Wu is shown by their lack of patience, unable to see that their cries against a perceived fault had already been answered.

A mistake once made is not undone by correction, for the effort put into correction would, without the mistake, have been otherwise employed. Shu wastes its efforts, as do all who still dream of Han rule.

>not I'm Sima

>Liu Bei is now Cao Cao
This is a huge twist.

How do I start learning Chinese war history? this shit is cool

Always with the same dramatic music too

You can thank Mao for that

It kind of does a giant time leap in the last two episodes to tie everything up, fast forwarding through two generations iirc

>Scion of the House of Han
Ha, jokes on you Kongming, they don't even make those anymore

Go to the library and pick up a book about it.

Bullshit, I've even heard native Chinese say the multitude of characters with similar names gets confusing

This isn't a great advice, especially since he specified "war history".
All the western historians dedicate like one paragraph to the political and military events of each period followed by thousands of pages on the agricultural system during peacetime.

based

Kings war is pretty good. You can watch it on netflix the director reuses a lot of actors from three kingdoms such as Cao Pi, Yuan Shao, Zhang Fei, Lu Bu and many more. Also Liu Bang is a total chad.

Attached: bang.jpg (1280x720, 83K)

>Liu Bang is a total chad
I think that may be the issue most people had with it, they've made Liu Bang way too cool and smart (the actor apparently even went off script and created his own version of the character), even when compared to Zhang Liang.
There are also issue with Xiang Yu since the original script was all about Liu Bang, and his scenes were just added by the director.

Get an annotated version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Some, I'm sure, come with a history or timeline along with the annotated story

It does seem a bit unbelievable how he transitions from peasant to an intellectual warlord so quickly, but I've learned to have a bit of suspension of belief when it comes to the Han and it's descendants.
