It's a shame they didn't do more with all the other titans they talked about but the ones the movie did show were pretty good.
The whole family subplot is trash.
And the jokes are shit.
Should have cut out most of the humans and just give us 80% of the movie as titan kino
reminder that rodan gets rekt by Kong next movie
can we start a godzilla cytube?
Seeing it in 8 hours, can't wait.
Reminder that this movie sucks!
Spend your money on quality films like Endgame or Aladdin.
Yo man.
Check it out
Pretend mecha ghidorah isnt in it.

Kong about to kill godzilla when mothra theme song plays
Etherial mothra appears wrecking the fuck out of Kong. Like flies right fucking through him.

It was so good it was fucking exhausting. The monsters are all in top fucking form and every huge moment lands harder than the last one.
OG mechagodzilla or bust
My robo-nigga.
The grand finale of Godzilla decapitating Ghidorah and reverse-MUTO-ing his whole neck and head into dust was brutal
>They are saving it for

Was Serizawa at least tolerable?
Gigan, Showa era
So many shills for this garbage
He's full of shit. The humans are all fine and everything they do is either directly related to Godzilla or reacting TO Godzilla. The family drama is minimal and never once overstays its welcome. Serizawa is an MVP and has one of the best scenes in the movie.
>1 Mickey Mouse chasity lock is available to you in HR
Just got out, it's absolute fucking kino
>yfw The Twins

Wasn't sure how they'd work that in
when she shows the old pictures of her mom and her twin and so on
>CCH Pounder out of nowhere
This movie was lousy with character actors, I loved it. They all have exactly enough to do or say to be memorable without taking over the picture. This was the perfect balance of humans and Godzilla and anyone who says otherwise is just looking to complain or literally has ADD and should be ignored.
My only disappointment is that "Oh my god..." "Zilla!" was actually in the movie and not just two separate scenes spliced for a trailer line
This is correct. OG Mechagodzilla was the best design I think ever.
Honestly, it made me laugh. They didn't linger on it and the timing and delivery was fitting. It's the best that joke could have been and now it won't happen again.
>Was Serizawa at least tolerable?
Good, I would say. Serizawa was like a hack in 2014, he was basically just there for fans to be like "oh it's Serizawa" and nothing else about him was interesting or meaningful. In this movie he's not perfect, and he doesn't behave like the old Serizawa would have either in at least some senses, but his "let them fight" meme from the last movie is at least expanded upon to the extent that you understand where his thinking is coming from, and they reference (albeit in an altered sense) his actions and beliefs from the original Gojira pretty well.
LADS I LITERALLY AM WALKING OUT OF THE THEATER
IT'S FUCKING KINO JESUS CHRIST
>YOUR FUCKING FACE WHEN OXYGEN DESTROYER
RODAN GETS MOTH'D
I actually didn't love that part to be honest. It wasn't horrible and I didn't hate it but it felt like one of those references they threw in there when they didn't absolutely need to, kind of like the whole Destroyah meltdown Godzilla toward the end. I get that there was a point to the latter and less point for the former, but still.
I think it would've been better if they'd saved it and still had Serizawa develop it, but have the plans for it in the notes he gave to the guy, to show he wasn't just always saying "we have to protect the monsters" without thinking there could be real circumstances where they may have to back off that and kill them in a worst-case scenario. That would've given him depth a movie later, granted, but I think it's better than the way it was implemented here, even if it wasn't a bad way to do it.
See, it's this kind of unrestrained optimism that's helping me feel better about buying into the hype train.
I hope it's good, but I have no idea what to expect because everyone is either "HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST GODZILLA FILM" or "This is absolutely horrid, poorly written dreck".
I guess it all depends on whether or not you see Godzilla as the protagonist
>aladdin
>mfw the fish skeletons
here's the kinoplex end shot.
Still has a better critic and even user score than incelzilla does
Goji is without question the protagonist; the critics just aren't equipped to expect that. The humans are very much just the support.
Does anyone know if this is played in the movie?
youtube.com
One of many shots destined to be in permanent rotation in wallpaper threads
>higher user score
Probably because normies and women are more likely to go see Aladdin than Godzilla
Every time you want it to be played, it is.
It is, but not in its entirety. They cut to sections of altered compositions of Ifukube's music several times, but they never have a full presentation of any of them except in the end credits. That was one of the things that really disappointed me if I'm being honest. They did cut to parts of this particular piece several times though.
Ghidorah roar like Showa (laughing bird sounds)?
I've gotta say the action was pretty fucking inspiring but there was a pattern to most of the action before the final 20 minutes and it left me disappointed.
>show cool ass jaw-dropping shot of two monsters about to fight
>they charge at each other and fight
>a couple seconds of them getting in some good blows
>cut to humans reacting, running away, or watching the fight on a monitor
Got a little silly.
It's played about three times. The incorporation of the theme is kino.
Post yfw...
>"Goodbye...old friend."
He sounds like the real life version of what that would sound like. Same vibe, just deeper. They play up the serpent qualities.
Mothra is like straight out of the movies, though.
Megalon
godzuki... based
No, though there are hints of it in the way it does roar. It sounds more like a deep-throated animal growl, though.
Yeah, that's what I mean when I said you could tell the CGI budget was a bit hamstrung with all they were trying to do. It wasn't as bad as 2014 but it's clear they were limited with how much they could show at once. A benefit of a suit-based actor, even if you touch it up with CGI later.
>They play up the serpent qualities
Thank you
Now I can die in serpentine heaven

Varan. He’s a classic giant dinosaur, but has an incredibly unique design.
Official posters for this movie look like those fan comics that everybody always wishes were official.
nice
I was more affected by his death than I was Iron Mans.
Reminder that the actor who played Serizawa was supposed to have a major role in Godzilla Returns and even helped promote it, but died before filming which necessitated the rewriting of the entire script. We lost out on him then, too.
Should I cave and buy it? It's so fucking cool
If you can, yes. If this movie proves anything it's that with the proper lighting this version can look like the literal fucking devil.
do it faggot
is there a Rodan and Mothra version releasing?
Yes
I'm sorry guys, I grew up with Godzilla, this was my most anticipated release of the year by far, but this was complete, Revenge of the Fallen-tier shit
Bradley Whitford's character might be the worst fucking character in ages
That's a hell of a claim to make with no justification.
I love Godzilla but this movie felt uneven and in some places it was a bit sloppy. The monsters are great when they're the focus but on the whole this movie could've been a lot better.
The acting and dialogue is wretched. If you thought MCU humor was bad, wait till you hear the shit the actors have to say here. oh my god...Zilla is only the beginning
Action is constantly undercut by bland humans
All the weight and sense of scale Edwards achieved in the previous film is not at all present here
Mothra and Rodan are really only in it for five minutes
The whole middle of the film is an exposition drop designed to force the cinematic universe, similar to the USB Justice League files in BvS
All the best imagery was already shown in the trailers
Super Saiyan Godzilla didn't do anything but unleash a single shockwave then fall over
I really enjoyed G'14 and Kong, but this was a complete fucking miss
>The acting and dialogue is wretched. If you thought MCU humor was bad, wait till you hear the shit the actors have to say here. oh my god...Zilla is only the beginning
It's pretty bad but it didn't feel quippy like the MCU. More like a cheesy 90s movie.
>Action is constantly undercut by bland humans
Yes, unfortunately this exists. But the final twenty minutes alleviate this concern for the most part.
>All the weight and sense of scale Edwards achieved in the previous film is not at all present here
Disagree. There is still an awe-inspiring sense of scale.
>Mothra and Rodan are really only in it for five minutes
Yeah it's a bummer. I hope they are in GvK
>The whole middle of the film is an exposition drop designed to force the cinematic universe, similar to the USB Justice League files in BvS
Not really. They mention Skull Island a couple times but it's not like they are forcing Kong into the equation. All that was stated was that there are a bunch of other titans all around the world which most astute viewers already knew. You see them at the end bowing to Godzilla
>All the best imagery was already shown in the trailers
A lot of it was. If you have watched all the trailers multiple times a day since they were released I could see how you were disappointed.
>Super Saiyan Godzilla didn't do anything but unleash a single shockwave then fall over
That's all he needed to do kek. He melted Boston and Ghidorah.
I love how we see ghidorahs final head still moving and roaring in the smoke
>Action is constantly undercut by bland humans
Nowhere near to the degree it was in 2014. No one literally shuts the door on a fight or gets a glimpse of it on a TV later. Every human scene during a fight takes place in the middle of the fight itself. You can hear everything even if it's not on screen.
Can’t wait. Going to see it with my dad tomorrow
Serizawa was the best human character, his big scene is literally the 1954 version but reverse
Just got home after seeing it, it's like an improved version of 2014 that still suffers the same problems.
Yes, it has the problem where the fight is cut off, but now we cut to people who are in the same place as the fighting and in direct danger. Giving us a nice ground-level view of the creatures and their scale.
Yes, the human element is still bland, but here they actually try to do something with it and the characters are directly connected to the plot. They even manage to make some emotional moments work.
Yes, they still haven't got the handle on how to make CG creatures (that aren't Kong) fight for long periods of time so it's mostly about the buildup to fights and specific attacks, but literally every single one of them is perfectly shot and hype as all fuck.
In every case the people working tried their best to make something with what they had and I think they achieved a fantastic film. 8/10
And honestly? Serizawa going underwater with a bomb to resurrect Godzilla instead of killing him? Undistilled kino fuck me in the ass Dougherty
WAIT
THE CHINESE CHICK WAS PLAYING TWINS?
THE FUCK?
im gonna see it with my mom haha, the godzilla movies are some of her favorites
Spoiler tags, you fucking degenerates
Yeah
One of the cooler nods in the movie imo
>Goji fights Ghidorah 3 fucking times
>4 if you count he was downed in the 3rd fight and had to be revived by Mothra
they gave us more than our money's worth lads
I had to use the washroom when that happened. Could someone explain to me what that was about? She was showing an old picture with a bunch of asians in em
Good, based user mom
who here /disappointed/? The characters weren't even the worst part. It had none of the grandeur that was promised, everything that should have been epic and awe-inspiring was sloppy and clumsy.
Most of the action was poorly done. Maybe it was just my theater, but I thought the sound mixing was fucking atrocious, the music and soundfx just overlapped and became a loud muddy mess of sound where neither gets to be heard. The pacing was all over the place, its either at full sprint or lifeless. I actually enjoyed the human characters for the most part, some scenes were definitely poorly done and poorly written, but they were good most of the movie.
Overall, it was fun, and had some great moments, but fuck it could have been so much better.
W-wait but they appear as two different characters in the film?
I'm thinking we mostly see Chen, and Dr Ling is only in the scene where Mothra gets out of the waterfall?
I like that they were twins but they literally have the same personality.
Or maybe I'm a brainlet I dunno.
Main chinese chick has a twin, who's also a scientist, she was working on the Mothra crew.
Wait, is she the daughter of the chinese chick from Skull Island?
Absolutely agree
10/10 music, Based Bear McReary
Ghidorah introduction was probably my favorite overall scene, only time it showed the heads talking to one another and then they threw in a Godzilla fight for good measure
I agree about the mixing. I think the middle of the film could've used some trimmed fat too, because despite how into the worldbuilding I am I think there were a lot of unnecessary scenes (like the several minutes of trying to get the ship back into the hangar for example) that could've really been used profitably in other ways, for character interaction and depth if nothing else. But it's still better than 2014 in my opinion, I think it's just a matter of letting it deviate a bit more from standard monster schlock and giving them the CGI budget they need to make the fights last longer with less interruption.
>But the final twenty minutes alleviate this concern for the most part.
but there is so much dumb shit we have to deal with to get that point.
G'14 has it's issues with pacing as well, but the worst you can say about the humans are that they're bland. The dialogue and performances are, at worst, functional
>OVERPOPULATION IS KILLING THE PLANET WE HAVE TO CULL THE POPULATION TO SURVIVE
Why is this the plot so often? Why does Hollywood not know of the Simon–Ehrlich Wager?
>Only time
Middle bullies Left at first but then later on helps him out when he grows back by chewing off the membrane or whatever it was, so that was a nice little arc that a character had with himself.
If your theater doesn't have a Dolby system the sound will probably suffer. The same thing happened when I saw Blade Runner 2049. The speakers were shaking and the sound was louder than the dialogue a lot of the time.
They were twins, the pictures were of her mom and her twin and so on, showing 3 different generations of twins working with Monarch
I thought it was a clever way to introduce that concept without going full on "oh fairies lmao"
What are you, a zoomer? Human impact on and destruction of the planet has been the theme of Godzilla literally from the beginning. The worst Godzilla films are usually those that try to forget that.
This. I'm going to go to IMAX specifically to get the full and proper experience for my second viewing. My local theater did the job fine enough but I could tell something was lacking.
I see, thanks. I have only seen the previous movie, I guess it would've been lost on me either way
I saw it in an true IMAX theater, it's definitely a problem with the mixing.
>Americans kill Godzilla with Oxygen bomb similar to original 1954 scenario
>Japanese man saves Godzilla with a nuke
>"Goodbye old friend"
KINO
Also, I might be overthinking it, but was it a nod to the original suit actor dying?
It’s gonna be good right? I’m gonna watch it on the weekend.
They saved that for the end of the credits.
>The original roar
not fucking bad. A lot of cool moments, definitely worth seeing in the theater
It's not perfect, but it's worth watching. I don't see how anyone can argue that it's worse than 2014 honestly, I see it as doing everything better even if it's not quite where it should be yet.
>Godzilla beats KG by microwaving him from a distance
Talk about a fucking anticlimax. I wanted to see him body slam that shitter like in the heisei movie. Mothra going out like a punk bitch was a cockblock too; she didn't even get to kill Rodan.
4/10 not enough Godzilla.
>Steps on his chest and crushes him
>Rips his head off, partially swallows it, then Team Rockets it off with atomic breath
>Anti-climactic
Everything else you said was wrong too.
Alita all over again.
the end credit scene had me thinking they were gonna tease Destoroyah up until they showed the Ghidorah head
fuck I walked out cuz I had to pee, what was the after credits scene?
I was right there with you, man. But Mecha-Ghidorah is more than a fair-enough trade off.
It shows the old fuck back on the Mexican island. The fishers are complaining that they can't fish anymore because all the fish died off to the oxygen destroyer (which made that plot point relevant at least thank fuck) and were willing to cut a deal with anyone. He gets ushered into a room with a large rotting Ghidora head, the one Godzilla tore off before the oxygen destroyer fired. The eco-terrorists then buy the head from the fishers.
goddammit I should have stayed. Thanks
eco terrorist guy talking to some shady fisherman, guy talks about how he can't fish anything because of the oxygen destroyer but says he has something else, pans to Ghidorah's head that fell off in the ocean and the eco terrorist says "I'll take it"
Or Bagan. Owned by TOHO but was only in the video game. That would give Legendary Pictures less restrictions on how to handle it. Bagan was cloned from one of Ghidorahs severed heads in the game.
Charles Dance is at Isla De Mara, being led through the remains of the Monarch facility by an out-of-work fisherman, who opines that all of the fish in the area are dead thanks to the oxygen destroyer. He then leads him into a large room with the single remaining Ghidorah head. Charles Dance nods and says "We'll take it."
they could still use Destroyah if they wanted too. Wouldn't' be surprised.
Does anyone have a list of all the different monsters they were listing off in that early montage on the computers?
yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Mecha-Ghidorah film or/and possibly a Destoroyah one sometime after Godzilla vs Kong
UNBLURRED TITAN TESTICLES WHEN
fuck that I want Hedorah, Mechagodzilla, or Gigan
Just saw it and I
Loved it so damn much
The human plot was tolerable and tied to the monsters, Godzilla got tons of screentime and fights, other monsters looked great. Loved the Easter eggs of oxygen destroyer, burning Godzilla and mothers twins.
Best was them revealing ghidorah was an invasive alien like in the 1964 version not just another titan.
Serizawa was the mvp and I liked the family, army characters were kind of tacked on but didn’t get in the way.
My only dislike of the movie was not enough mothra and Rodan all their scenes were in the trailers and the fact that burning Godzilla didn’t shoot a red spiral ray, I was waiting for it the whole time he was red, yeah the wave was cool and all but a red spiral atomic breath would have been iconic
Human plot was 80% worldbuilding, it was pretty nice imo. Felt like a Showa/Heisei hybrid movie.
Stick around for the credits.
You could tell that the writers at least knew their Godzilla and respected the source material and for that I’m happy.
Hopefully Godzilla vs Kong doesn’t fuck it up
It's great. Go see it on the biggest, loudest screen you can.
You guys want to consolidate
into one thread? we can come here after other one dies
That was a lot of fun, they did my boy Ghidorah proud.
He looked so good bros, and I'm glad they kept the alien angle.
Yeah, I'm glad they kept him an astro-monster. And in general I enjoyed all of the references.
And they hinted at mothra fairies, I would like them to keep pulling on that thread and give us a proper divine mothra. I know I'm asking for a lot, But after alien Ghidorah everything seems possible.
>oxygen destroyer absolutely works on big G
So now humanity has a trump card against him. In the 1954 version at least Serizawa destroyed the formula, but he didn't work on it in this version. How are they gonna resolve this?
It was good, but not great.
The main complaint is the final battle, where movie constantly cuts from giant monsters kicking ass to tiny humans emoting. Come on, I wanted to see that Mothra vs Rodan battle. Overall camera work in monster battles are too... Hollywood-ish, I don't know. Short shots, a lot of cuts, camera is constantly shaking and filming like it's attached to a fighter jet.
Cinematic universes are fucking cancer, I hate them. Most of the human scenes are the exposition dumps. Because of them it seems like there are less monster action than there actually are.
Original monsters are crap. But it's not like they had a lot of screen time.
Toho monsters are great. Especially Mothra, she was beautiful. Really liked her voice.
Titanus Behemoth, anyone get any good shots in?
Stole from a reddit post because some idiot took only one pic and it’s all I could find.
Well she was already worshipped as a goddess by ancients and there's one scene where they literally mistake her for the sun, I dunno how much more you can go
>I dunno how much more you can go
Give me the twin fairies with psychic communications.
I can see it working in a prologue or flashback to ancient times where kaiju worship is at full swing but bringing it to present times might be too much for modern audiences
You see him briefly like 3 times and he doesn't do much, just bash a few buildings
I saw it a few hours ago. It was fucking amazing
I just wanna see the spider squid...
Did they name it scylla or was that another titan
>present times might be too much for modern audiences
Materialists are such a sensitive bunch, you're probably right.
>ZILLA BAD
brainlet confirmed
People in my theater thought this was Kong lmao
I can argue it was. The first one had much better directing and cinematography
Yeah that’s Scylla.
Apparently she reversed the melting icecaps in three days after Ghidorah got rekt
Fuck yes. But that was nothing compared to GOJIRA BODYSLAM
The credits where they show Godzilla's path to Tokyo was funny
>Spend your money on quality Disney products. This reply brought to you by the Walt Disney Corporation.
Those who shine twice as bright last half as long
I found the ending credit headlines of the titans presence regrowing everything strangely heartening

mothpussy
They also mentioned that Goji keeps other kaijus away from cities
my friends called this design retarded ;__;
>moth fuckers
Without context, it kinda is, but in the movie itself it works very well.
>posting THE mothfucker as a reaction
that is NOT confirmed canon yet.....j-just hinted at.......
I hope you told you friend to NOT bully stage 1 Shin Godzilla
It’s a nod to mothra’s toho mythos.
I tried to explain it's a homage to the suits used in the old movies, and that it's goji's sea monster phase but they still called it retarded and lazy
Isn't stage 1 just his tail
>all the mentions of activity on Skull Island
reminder that Kong vs Godzilla will end with both of them becoming bros and moving all the other titans to the island, which will be renamed Monster Island
Bagan
Holy fuck, the movie is so fast that it seems that lasts an hour.
Fuck this movie was good. I can tell it was a longer film before and had to be cut down but the monster action was incredible.
The one flaw of the film I'll say is that for any uninitiated Joe Q. Consumer seeing the movie, they don't really explain Rodan and Mothra well.
Critics are hacks, the audiences loved it and at least from someone who hasn't even considered buying tickets to see any movie twice I'm already seeing it in 2 days with new people. You should get hype brother.

godzilla.fandom.com
just came back from the movie. No one involved in writing that movie should be allowed to ever write another movie. it felt like a painful rip off of the MCU except this time with monsters. I hate how they handled Rodan, but King Ghidorah was done pretty well. Fatzilla was boring as usual, and I have mixed feelings about Mothra. both Mothra and Rodan are barely present in the movie, and the action is constantly interrupted by the GODAWFUL human characters. I really want to like this movie because the monsters were decent, but the entire plot and all the human characters were irredeemably bad. Also they mentioned Skull Island and Kong every 10 minutes.
I really loved that they finally added a dynamic to the Ghidorah heads.I actually audibly chuckled at the far right and middle heads interactions
that part when they toast the military guys and he starts licking at the snow like a curious puppy until the other one grabs him by the horns and headbutts him
also holy shit they actually showed a lot of direct monster on human violence this time around. Usually monsters just bash up buildings but I saw at least 3 dudes get vored this movie. Reminded me a lot of Skull Island.
don't forget Shape of Water lady getting stomped on then eaten by fucking Ghidorah
Checked.
I liked the scene with Rodan fucking up all those fighter jets.
He flew between 2 jets, then beat them down with his wings.
He snatched a jet out of the air with his beak, then crumpled it to bits with his talons.
Best of all, one pilot ejected from the cockpit, and Rodan ate him. Ejector seat, helmet, flight suit, and all
It was kaijukino..
When is it Gigans turn?
that and the other sacrifice
>that webm
so monsters are actually talking in KOTM, they just call it "bio acoustics", and it extends for thousands of miles. Ghidorah was calling for all kaiju to start destroying the planet until Goji stopped him
>when Rodan was bowing to Godzilla at the end and he still had a hole on his chest and it's still dripping lava
bump
Just came back from a dolby screening. That scene with Godzilla intimidating while underwater was fucking great. I can't wait for Godzilla vs Kong.
I'm glad it's coming out in March. More movies besides capeshit should spam releases and build up a universe really quickly. Hopefully Charles Dance, Ghidorah, and Rodan return in Kong.
Based and unquestionably punch-pilled
Agreed, I think the 5 year gap actually hurt the interest in this film. A year between this and Kong tho may actually help. I'm not sure yet if I wanna see anything after that film tho.
Some fucking broad on tumblr says it is anti-semitic for having hollow Earth theory and that it's racist because not enough Japanese people and cuz apparently for how they treated dr. Serizawa in the film
Can you name all 33 Godzilla films, in order of release on command?
If not you're a pleb and not on James' level of fandom
youtu.be
You mean, have him be the head of Monarch, giving him the best lines and his noble sacrifice?
>Aladdin
>mfw I created a RT account just to give KOTM a five star rating
So can anyone explain to me why one of the species of Muto monsters from the first movie was alive and bowing to Godzilla at the end? Guess there’s just a bunch of them after all?
Probably large parasite like “titans” that live around the earth. That’s what I figured.
I like to think the Titans are more intelligent than what we expect lumbering giants to be so the MUTO understands the hierarchy and Godzilla is at the top.
2014 shows there's a cluster of MUTO eggs within a titan skeleton, so yeah, there's a bunch of them akin to how insects spawn their own.
I like to think that the "bio acoustics" they use are commands, but only the alpha is obeyed. Simple concepts like "Destroy", "Protect" etc
Got the best theme in the NES game too.
I named them in my car while I was listening to this.
youtube.com
Beautiful... Also Mothra shielding Godzilla with her wings and sacrificing herself :(
didn't like the whole "queen of the monsters" thing they did with mothra. she's a defender of the earth, defending the just and destroying the unjust. Although it's fine they weren't there I kinda wish her little attendants were present. that said they did an excellent job on her theme, the hair on the back of my neck stood up on her reveal scene. youtube.com
The wave was in the shape of Mothra wings which made me forgive the lack of spiral
Same, my dude.
This. My only complaints about the movie was going to be lack of red spiral just frying Ghidorah, the music wasn't quite loud enough, and outside his initial bursting from the volcano, Rodan should have used his OG roar more often.
10,000 hours in MS Paint
ANYONE have the gif of Godzilla dancing ?
Has anybody seen a 4DX showing? worth it? Does it also have an IMAX screen for it, or is it mutially exclusive?
theater near me has some, i'm curious
Blessed. I guess it's like in Ghidrah except instead of Mothra talking to them Godzilla had to beat Ghidorah's ass and Rodan had to flail around on the ground from where Mothra fucking nip'd him until he realized nobody was watching and he had to stop pretending to be hurt.
lmao, I think it's funny that Rodan came out as more of a bitch in this movie than in the original Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster. I still liked him though. I really wish they spent more time developing the monster characters than the human characters. Maybe it's just me but I don't watch Godzilla for the people.
he looks so proud
Nah, not just you. I think it's because alot was cut, the director did say it's original runtime was 3H.
The MUTOS were juveniles who didnt know better and that other Muto is a Muto Prime.
I really hope they step up their game with human scenes. It's obvious they still will be there in plenty at least for exposition and I want them not to bore me to death while screaming for monsters to fight already.
Out of 3 movies so far I only liked human scenes in Kong.
You do not cut out what majority of your budget went into. It's the human aspect that got shredded and left on the cutting floor.
>t's the human aspect that got shredded and left on the cutting floor.
Based and Monsterpilled
This one?
fuck, my date convinced me to see Aladdin instead of Gojira tonight. Save me bros.
I want to rewatch the movie in 3D but also seeing it in RPX was great as well and feels worth another go (no RPX 3D unfortunately)
I'm conflicted

Editing was it's biggest problem IMO, they didn't let a lot of the shots breathe and cut away too quickly, especially during the fight scenes.
4dx isn't an Imax screen. The 4dx was pretty good, some snow near the start, and quite a lot of rain in the latter half, and the motion was pretty well done. The 3D was fucking terrible on the screen I saw it on, and they also fucked the scent at the end by spraying the forest nature smell over the burning stadium scenes which was hilarious.

THE ABSOLUTE FINAL PROSTRATION BEFORE THE KING, WAS MAXIMUM KINO 2/3 OF THE THEATER EXPLODED IN WILD PRIMAL SATISFYING GRUNTS OF REVERENCE, THE 400lb. LAND WHALE NEXT TO ME WAS IN TEARS.
The part where thanos and sicario show up felt really out of place but whatver.
what's the difference between RPX and imax
Based Christmas bug.
actually remember Kaijubros Destoroyah was a mutation as a result of the oxygen destroyer weapon we have all the pieces to make it happen.
IMAX's meme is the picture format (which KotM reportedly doesn't take advantage of)
RPX's meme focuses on sound, having Buttkickers (mini subwoofers) inside the recliners
I think they'd both have comparable sound quality
>Doesn't have 13 bucks
Dude what.
That's not "poor", that's either destitute, or underage.
I work less than minimum wage. I'm on fucking food stamps, and I can afford a ticket
So they're actually in, in some form? Thank god, I was worried!
>(which KotM reportedly doesn't take advantage of)
explain
All of the music in the film was great. As much as I would have liked for them to use Gojira's classic theme more, I liked that it was used briefly after he gets recharged and started moving towards Boston
youtube.com
Also yeah, that Mothra song is incredible.
youtube.com
As much as I want to see that happen, along with that and theMelting Godzilla nod, I think it's going to be Bagan
It's not shot with IMAX cameras in IMAX screen ratio. It still looks great at IMAX, to be fair.
Shit like this like when the aspect ratio opens up for a bigger picture during certain sequences
For examples, like the HALO jump in MI:6 or certain parts of the prison break out in the first GotG
This was my major issue
People said that the fights were spectacular but I felt it was still poorly executed
Constantly cutting to the humans and regulating the monsters for the background
They showed the monsters so much but not fighting
I love these movies but fuck me if GvK doesn't have a solid 10 to 15 of nothing but monster fights in full view imma rage
I NEED HIGH QUALITY IMAGES AND POSTERS PICS FOR REASONS
so is the movie stretched out to fill the aspect ratio then or is it just black bars
is it at least a higher resolution/better sound quality?
I agree, had they used song's crescendo in a wider shot of Godzilla exiting the water and plodding menacingly into Boston, would made this into one of the top 3 greatest movies of all time Akira Ifukube and Haruo Nakajima would be smiling from kaiju heaven. I was in tears when the first notes of the song started playing.
As for Destoroyah It is the only monster Godzilla has never beaten, as sad as I am to admit, he will need help to defeat him
In my giant IMAX it fills top 3/4 of the screen (still looks great), smaller liemaxes may not even have that issue.
OH NONONONO STOP NOOOO THEY SAY THE MOVIE SUCKS NOOOO AAA MICKEY HELP ME
IMAX cameras are very high quality so most sequences filmed with them will pop
I'm not saying IMAX isn't worth it if it wasn't filmed with IMAX cameras however
KotM deserves to be viewed on the biggest screen available in your area
THAT FUCKING KINO GHIDORA VS RODAN SHOT. HOLY SHIT I ALMOST CAME
But what is Godzilla's tax policy?
Dinotank
Post yfw Rodan does a flip and wipes out a whole fucking squadron
>getting cucked out of seeing Goji, who's always been there for you
Absoulty pleb tier user. Shame on you
Is this Neon Genesis?
Kong. Cant wait to see how he gets buffed up in GvK
>Oxygen Destroyer actually works against Godzilla
>Serizawa's not the one who made it, which means they can just re-use it
Humanity now has a trump card against Godzilla, what now?
>GODZILLA SAID I SHOULD LEARN TO FIGHT MY OWN BATTLES
I always had a soft spot for Ebirah because it reminded me of this game
>Burning Godzilla
>Each explosion you can hear Mothra's cry
lads...
Did anyone get a picture of the shot where Mothra spreads her wings for the first time?
It would be good to finally see him in a film
It's in one of the trailers, I believe
Literally the best Mothra ever put to screen. Also the distinct pesonality's in each Ghidorah head was really cute. Especially the one that was licking the ground after vaporizing the soldiers.
since both godzilla and kong are established to be on the human side or at least good in that they want to eliminate dangerous creatures, I think ive got the scenario for their movie:
>most of the titans around the world are listening to godzilla as the alpha and don't cause any problems to human settlements
>kong and the ones on skull island are the exceptions, maybe cause kong is like an alpha or just something to do with the island
>some of the titans are just wandering around the world until they end up on skull island
>kong considers them as foreign/dangerous creatures so he fucks them up, maybe even killing them
>this eventually reaches to godzilla, hell maybe even have it be rodan tattling on him after he gets beaten by kong
>godzilla now thinks kong is an opposing alpha since he's not being obedient like the other titans and goes to fight him
>not light speed mothra
shit taste
Fucking Oscar worthy shot right there.
That one is very cool but absurdly OP
Based redesign. Looks like an actual insect but still cute.
I saw it in IMAX last night and this film was fucking made for IMAX. It's almost a shame because any other viewing of the film will never be as good. It was fucking LOUD without ever hurting your ears. The mix was really well done.
I would have preferred "Queen of Life"
King of Death
King of the Sky
Queen of Life
King of the Monsters
The offscreen Godzilla roar when he's first approaching Fenway Stadium with the military made me jump it was so loud
Did you get yours?
I was so worried he'd just be another monster. I'm so happy they integrated his millions of years cosmic voyage of destruction
I forgot :( I'll get it next time I see it
This was honestly one of the most hype moments for me surprising.
I did NOT expect them to follow through with Ghidoras original origin story. It seemed way too wacky given the tone 2014 was going for
My Regal has RPX instead so we didn't get the cards
>seeing it today
>no IMAX theater even remotely close to me
Honestly, fuck my life right now.
>All those nods to the Toho Godzilla movies.
>Even the fucking twins and oxygen destroyer
>Every time a monster appears on screen.
Also are we getting Mecha King Ghidorah? But how are they gonna do that with just one head?
What about an RPX theater?
It might be worth the drive user
Based MOSURA MOSURA poster
jesus you philistines are easy to impress
Saw it in a normal theater and I feel like they didn't adjust anything for smaller theaters because especially music felt drowned out.
I'm guessing it'll be like this but with a living middle head. That or after it comes back to life it'll be able to regenerate some of its body but not the rest, which will be replaced by robotic parts
>only IMAX theaters nearby are showing it in bullshit 3D which darkens an already dark movie
fuck
I can't believe all the fanservice in this fucking movie. Things 2014 made me dare to never dream of making it into a Hollywood Godzilla film
>Godzillas theme
>Referring to Ghidora as "Monster Zero" and keeping his origin from space
>The allusion to the Mothra fairies
>The oxygen destroyer
>Atomic Godzilla clearly a reference to Vs Destroyah
I'm in bliss
are there any fucking rips already? I am too lazy yo go to the cinema.
When will they realize that no one gives a shit about the garbage tier human sideplot that seems to overtake most of the movie
Try and see it in AVX or whatever the sound equivalent is. The whole first introduction to Godzilla with the music and chanting was so damn satisfying, going to see it again asap.
The one AMC Classic theater near me has this thing called "BigD" which seemingly has dynamic audio. Will probably go to that one. I've never heard of this type of thing though.
Go support this movie so we get the Biolante sequel
>yfw Atomic breath vore
They're at least getting closer, it takes up less than the last movie
Idk how they're gonna top Godzilla vaping the bad guy to death in the next one
KotM is honestly like the Godzilla 2014 antithesis
Godzilla 2014 tried so so hard to be grounded and serious and was willing to put franchise staples behind it for the sake of staying gritty. Honestly it's the aspect of the movie I hated the most.
Like you said, I never in a million years expected them to say Ghidora was from space. It was just out of the question based on the way 2014 set up the universe.
Honestly as fucked up as it sounds, KotM made me realize how much I didn't like about 2014. I never realized how much it failed as a Godzilla movie until I saw the REAL Hollywood kino
This time it was atleast a decent background and reason for the monsters to go to the places where they were supposed to. Plus maybe we can get some mecha kaijus in the future.
I feel like the outlandish story could still work with its very serious tone. I think there's a compromise that could be met but I can't even imagine it
The moment that solidified that we were in crazy kaiju territory was when Ghidorah fucking dropped Godzilla from atmosphere. That was fucking scary to be honest.
>End credits say Monarch is building a giant mechanical weapon on Skull Island
You need it to have a well paced monster movie.
The human characters set the tone and despite what people who just got into the franchise think, you can't just have monsters fighting nonstop for 2 hours. You need context.
KotM would have been nowhere near as good if it didn't have the humans. They are crutial
The girl sitting next to me and I held hands during that scene. She was sincerely terrified. It was amazing
JET JAGUAR?
As small of a detail as it was, the moment for me was when they referred to Ghidora as Monster Zero. It was such a clear "we understand what you want" moment to fans that I knew the rest of the movie was going to be a complete love letter, which it was.
HOLY MOTHER OF KINO HNNNNNGGGG
I think Mecha Godzilla is a little more likely
No you dolt
If we ever get jet Jaguar it's going to be well after any sort of seriousness has been squeezed out of the series. King of the Monsters was a great first step, but you can tell they are still taking themselves a little too seriously to be going as wacky as Jet Jaguar.
Give it like, 2 more movies. Godzilla vs Kong, Godzilla 3 which will likely have mechagodzilla, and then we will be in jet Jaguar territory once giant robots have already been established
I also really loved the use of Old rivals and the OG Godzilla theme being mixed in there. The immense amount of hype when the two big monsters fucking stared each other down the first time. The fucking end credits too had me hyped for Kong, and the fact that it was said that Godzilla was actively shoo-ing away Kaijus from cities was kinda endearing.
I want Jet Jaguar vs. Mecha King Ghidorah piloted by Charles Dance.
It's possible to take a fantastic premise and play it completely seriously if you try hard enough and do the tone right. Shin was pretty much the same way, it sounds completely ridiculous at first but frankly comes across terrifying.
The Argo is another thing I loved about this movie. Giving Monarch a giant flying airship base that airdrops Ospreys, and an undersea fortress armed with maser cannons is exactly what they needed, and I hope they continue to go full G-Force in the future.
>So for this shot, do you want to portray Mothra as a Goddess or a Queen?
>Yes.
That scene had me nutting like crazy. I didn't think they'd top the waterfall reveal but damn they someone did it, in the same fucking movie.
do it life is meaningless anyway
bumping
I personally haven't tried it, but heard really good things.
I'm sure you can just Google the screen size
I almost feel like the makers of '98 and '14 were embarrassed to be working on a Godzilla movie, so they either went completely off the rails to distance themselves ('98), or went super serious grounded ('14), whereas the new one is just unapologetically busting Godzilla nuts all over everyone's faces.
well when we saw 2014 we thought "how were they gonna top the kiss of death decapitation?"
so they'll come up with something
i haven’t seen any recent godzilla movie but this seems fun. will i know what’s going on
>Tywin Lannister piloting Mecha King Ghidorah
Oh god, please make this happen.
Yes definitely.
It's perfectly self contained as long as you understand that there was a godzilla attack in 2014
Monster hits other monster with blue atomic flame, monster retaliates by shooting it with yellow gravity beams. There I gave you a bit of context now have fun.
Honestly you don't need to watch the previous one, this one barely alludes to the first movies plot. However if you want to see Godzilla's progression then I recommend watching the 2014.
My country doesn't have such nice things, only normal theaters.
I'm guessing that's the point where Godzilla started actively protecting humans, at least in MonsterVerse
End credits stated that he prevents attacks on cities. He's setting the limits, we stay in cities, kaijus get the rest.
Kong will fuck dumbzilla up.
