Godzilla is doing pretty well right now in terms of Box Office if reports hold true, and Alita did like double what it was tracking at before release. Sure it didn't light the world on fire or anything but I hardly call that under-performing.

Pikachu and Shazam under-performed though, those were both tracking at 500m+ and only hit around 350m, which was even below what Alita did.

Then why are the most popular movies in English? And why do they take places in America, with mostly American actors and customs?

Not really. Fast and Furious taking place all around the world. Transformers moved too, Last Knight was set in England and previous movie had a lot of action in China. Latest Mission Impossible was also mostly in France and UK.

I found the trailer interesting, but I've seen it several times now in theaters before other movies, and the audience seemed pretty dead to it. The MCU is big here, but the X-Men part of it seems less enthusiastic than the Avengers/Guardians side of things.
