A-list used to mean an actor or actress you can put in your movie and basically guarantee your money back at worst, even if the movie is not that good. The closest you can get to that these days is probably Tom Cruise.

I think Cruise and Crowe were the leads in that, as usual. Although Sofia was the title character it was the fact that she wasn't the lead that allowed her to let loose and be the best part of the film.

It's always been about being able to sell tickets, if acting ability sold tickets only good actors would be A-list but thats never been true. The Rock charges like half a million per instagram ad and i imagine 10-15 million per movie and the producers know he is worth it since he sells tickets.

looks are a huge thing. they're not always #1 but they're close, talent of course is up there, but personality/humor, etc all matters. it's a big x-factor of everything combined, intangibles as well, who you know, how nice you are behind the cameras, etc
