AINT THAT THE PUREST FORM OF NIGGER LOGIC

Its possible he was still depressed over the boy dying.

My favorite characters are definitely the jew, trixie, and the doctor. Doctor Cochran is just such a good person generally, probably has the best moral compass in the camp.

Dan is such a simple character.
>Al: He has 10 men at this location
>Dan: Let me go over and kill them
Super confident in his abilities almost to a fault.

Mr Hearst had some weird development. He seemed decent when he came to camp and turned out to be a monster.

i like al swearengen. He is supposed to be this evil mastermind but then occasionally you can see a glimpse of humanity in him like letting jewel work in the brothel or him not killing johnny when he tried to prevent him from killing that whore.

He literally just starts becoming a good guy by Season 2

post literally you

Attached: TITLICKER.png (787x649, 607K)

I wouldn't exactly call him a good guy. He's still willing to kill innocent unrelated people if it furthers his business

He couldn't show weakness.

Al is literally a good guy, chaotic good I'd label him. Which is in a lot of contrast to his historical counter part which was an absolute monster.

Season 1 for sure he's a ruthless asshole.
Season 2 and 3 he's repeatedly shown to always be acting in the best interests of the camp

If he was an absolute monster, Seth Bullock wouldn't have covered his ass for a decade.

Al is so much more good-hearted in season 3 that it's surreal to rewatch the first season where he's ordering sophia to be killed

Well there's a decent reason for that, his interaction with Hearst changed him a lot. He even has that interaction where if he asks if hes a faggot because of his reluctance to cut Hearst's throat after that

>n 1867, Bullock became a resident of Helena, Montana, where he unsuccessfully ran for the Territorial Legislature. He was subsequently elected as a Republican to the Territorial Senate, serving in 1871 and 1872 and helped create Yellowstone National Park.

>Bullock, then a deputy sheriff from Medora, North Dakota, met Theodore Roosevelt in 1884 while bringing a horse thief known as Crazy Steve into custody on the range, near what would become the town of Belle Fourche. The two became lifelong friends, Roosevelt later saying of Bullock, "Seth Bullock is a true Westerner, the finest type of frontiersman."

Had no idea Bullock was so based.

My dad had a huge problem with Mose.
He didn’t die, so shouldn’t he have $200,000 to live off? (also the money is really weird on Deadwood)

Attached: 018E0B6B-B949-48AA-9ED9-6EF2A9751A5A.jpg (630x420, 45K)

Blazanov was based

Yea I suppose. But the real Swearingen brutally forced women that were brough in to prostitution. Also hilariously Calamity Jane brought him 10 women to be prostitutes on one occasion.

Didn't he gamble it all away?

Does it bother anybody else that:

1. the show has a pretty grounded and balanced portrayal of female characters, but for some reason turns Calamity Jane into an utterly drunk useless mess? Even though (a) by historical accounts she was pretty competent and knew how to fight (b) you literally had to be above average to survive as a woman in that sort of lifestyle. I meant it's ok to demythologize the West, but they went way to far with her. Not to mention altering her relation with Wild Bill - historically they'd only met in Deadwood IIRC, so she couldn't have been his fawning fangirl for years.

2. everyone treats blacks with respect and the one openly racist guy in Deadwood is ridiculed and made fun of, but at the same time both the characters and the writers make fun of Chinese people, make them the butt of all jokes and generally play them for laughs?

I mean I'm not fixated at political correctness at all, just that those two things seem pretty hypocritical.

Nope, he lost it all gambling and whoring remember? He never got it back.

He spent $200000 at faro?

I disagree strongly on the treating blacks with respect thing most characters in the show don't, only the ones that were known for being decent and Hearst. Also the Chinese were worse because no one could understand what the fuck they were saying.

The only character development whatsoever that a Chinese character gets over the 3 seasons, ie. Mr Wu changing his dress for western style, is written as a comedic scene too.

Yea dude. Money can go fast in high stakes gambling. Which is what Faro was known for.

Wu's simplicity and resistance to change is what made him a likable character.

Attached: 1543160465282.jpg (1456x5600, 1.3M)

huh 50 years old, pretty good for the times.

this subplot was some filler bullshit and the way it ended made me legit mad i wasted my time
youtu.be/MZK7v0BD2V8?t=87

yeah exactly. I didn't think he was developed as well as other antagonists. When he first arrives he just seems pragmatic and focused to a fault, but then later he just goes off the rails. Maybe I'm misremembering, I'm rewatching the show so maybe once I get through the 3rd season again I'll feel different.

>best moral compass
agreed, and while not quite the same level, I'd forgotten how noble Wu is. There's his outrage over Lee's monstrousness of course, but he also offers Jewel a cup of tea when she's outside in the cold waiting for an update on William Bullock. Taking care of your own is one thing, but reaching out like that, to someone of another race, to a woman, to a cripple who is continuously mocked? That's something else entirely.

the Chinese weren't being played for laughs in Season 2, a big part of the plot was about how people in Chink's Alley were suffering under the Tong. like those prostitutes that died and were burned in the street

the kidney stone and subsequent aneurysm made him kinder and gentler and more relatable.

He thought he would just be able to take over all of the mining claims, and when some people resisted him then he became ruthless.

Also made him talk to the head if a decapitated indian for a while, a bit strange

What does Sofia look like today?

Joffrey

Sure, I think my issue was that he just went full-on villain, whereas even say Tolliver, Steve the racist, and Wolcott were tragic or nuanced. But now that I think on it more, weren't there also a few scenes that hinted at Hearst wanting to be part of a community but failing? So there's a jealously angle too?

What a faggot.

I like Jane

Attached: 1554852717794.png (248x451, 130K)

yeah when he talks to Odell he reveals that despite all his talk of caring only about the color he does suffer from being so disconnected from people. the scene after the captain gets killed and he's at the bar trying to process his grief is great

FUCKING KEK that's immediately what I thought of. There's an old family friend of ours that worked on the set of Deadwood. He said everyone except that fat cunt and the guy that plays Cy Tolliver was great. But he said Cy was a real cunt to work with.

He was their "horse guy" for the show. He also worked on Hidalgo. Good guy. Said Viggo was really fucking cool

God is not mocked, you son of a bitch

Attached: Deadwood_Andy_Cramed.jpg (300x450, 33K)

I re-watched the show last month. They basically hammer your head the fact that dealing with the common man and the stubbornness of places like Deadwood draws out the worst in Hearst, which is why it isn't so bad for him at the start because he had just arrived and hadn't dealt with those hicks.

He also is very kind to his servant/cook he brought in, it's a much different interaction than what he has with others.

The cool type of Priest

If you think Deadwood is reddit, you belong there.

I showed Deadwood to a frind and he didn't like it, said it looked like they were theatre acting and didn't like the dialogue between characters.

Both things I like about the show.

I don't think that's a fair representation of Jane, or her relationship with Bill. Historical accuracy aside, in the show she was obviously (sexually?) abused by a man, and in Wild Bill she finds a man who she trusts absolutely and feels safe around. Her being a drunk is sometimes played for laughs but mostly it's just fucking sad, precisely because she IS very capable and kind when she's sober.

ah yeah see, I don't even remember that scene. It's been years since I watched s3. Thanks man.

Is the movie out tomorrow, on HBO? I want to know when I can download it

Hearst is decent until people go against his will. look at how quickly he turns on Alma when she meets him alone

it's interesting how in his final talk with Wolcott Hearst acts like he can't understand Wolcott's murderous impulses, yet in Season 3 he admits that he had the desire to kill Bullock and rape Alma among many other violent thoughts

>the actors act like they are acting in the 1870's

Yeah but it's an utterly condescending kindness, as she points out while playing mahjong. He's nice as long as she keeps her mouth shut and does as she's told, but she hates and fears him. Just compare Jewel and Al's relationship, it's (relatively) much more balanced.

>“God rest the souls of that poor family… and pussy’s half price for the next 15 minutes!” – Al Swearengen

>may I look, Mr Farnum?

Dialogue was top notch in that show. Can appreciate it a lot more now. When I was a teen it was enjoyable just hearing "cocksucker" over and over again

I didn't really pick up on that too much but your right. I love that Al gives Jewel free reign to back talk him it's pretty funny.

>my bicycle masters boardwalk and quagmire with aplomb... all those who doubt me suck cock by choice

Well there's different ways of interpreting 'favorite character'. Could be 'this person is great and I want to be friends with them' as well as 'this guy is an asshole but so well-written and entertaining'. I don't think anyone could deny Farnum has some of the best lines.

i'd post some cy tolliver quotes but most of the time i couldn't understand what that guy was saying

Farnum has some of the best interaction for sure.

he was at his most amusing being Hearst's lackey

I really wanted that gut stab to kill cy. Out of all the characters he makes me the most uncomfortable.

Best fight in all tv

I love that too. It's similar to how Tolliver and Al are set apart by how they treat their main whore. Joanie 'gets to' set up her own joint, but he goes back on his promise, demands a cut, sends a spy in, provokes Wolcott knowing how dangerous he is and what he might do. Whereas when Trixie falls in love with Sol and goes to learn accounting, after some initial push-back, Al was happy for her chance at a life like that.

How can a character portrayed by Brian Cox ever be your least favorite character?

So was Richardson supposed to be something particular, or was he acting all weird for randomness' sake. The parts where he uses those animal totems and says he's praying for his family (iirc) makes me think he was part Indian. Was this ever expanded upon?

Al says that he will meet him "to see how much juice [Lee]'s got behind him". Wu is confused and asks "Jews?" while mimicking a bunch of coins in his hands. Al negates. Wu gets up from his seat then, moves to the window, points to Sol Star's shop, pretends to have a big nose, and asks again: "Jews?"

He knows he'll be hanged for beating Steve's ass so he shot himself

I really liked bullock and skyler as a couple after the kid died

youtube.com/watch?v=8rGU2xwSsFs

I liked Langrishe but he wasn't really given much to do. Al was already humanized enough without the personal history stuff. I've read that Langrishe was supposed to betray Al somehow in season 4, but with the cancellation that never played out.

To break my god damned heart

He's going to grow apples in Oregon

>your face when based fucking Teddy R makes a cameo tomorrow

Dunno...somethimg about such a recognizable face took me out of th3 shows universe.
Plus he didn't really add anything to the show or the other characters' affairs.
Waiste to have a theatres promoter and no actual performances.
His troupe added nothing to the season they were in.
Not sure why he had to be so important. Nothing he did seemed to be very important until he stood on swearengens balcony and called out to Hearst from across the thorofare.
Great actor, playing an actor, intelligently, despite the intended pretensions, but without a real involvement or conflict nothing he did seemed to really matter.
Plus his relationship with al seemed tacked on somewhat unless I missed something that would justify their relationship being so close as it were to something remotely jovial...

Attached: Screenshot_20190530-011205.png (1280x720, 432K)

What claim is your piety on my deference?

Fuck you sir

The show wasn't supposed to be cancelled.

He was just slow...and superstitious. Farnums brief comments about his origins suggest he's lower than poor

>Electors of the camp, as to who should serve as Mayor reasonable men may differ, but as to who should be Sheriff we all ought speak with one voice and our words should be turn out the maniac Bullock, who set upon the Mayor unprovoked, who beat him with merciless protraction. Bulllock should be murdered! We should rise up and murder Bullock! Thank you very much.

Either way his character was useless all through s3. Why should I care about a few squabbles among his troupe or his dying actor? Tacked on drama was tacked on.

The rest I agree with, but the point of the troupe was to show how far the town had come. That they have risen above simply existing and have a need for art now. Amateur night was another instance of the community coming together.

Well it was a historical drama and he was a real person that had historical significance that would have been more fleshed out if there were later seasons is my guess. The show is about the town of Deadwood, not the Adventures of Al Swearengen and Seth Bullock.

Who does he kill to further his business? He killed Johnny's whore because he had to appease Hearst somehow, you could tell it wasn't as easy for him as the killing he did early on. The camp humanized him, he did it for Deadwood.

I could be misremembering, but Steve wasn't alone when tarring Little Nigger General, was he?

As for the Chinese, they just segregated themselves and had pretty much zero contact with the whites, so that could explain the aversion.

How was W. tragic or nuanced? Guy was a fucking psycopath.

As for Tolliver, didn't he start losing it toward the end? What was the point in gutting Leon and threatening to kill anyone he could lay his hands on? Hearst emasculated him and he just flipped.

>Implying God isn't real

Fuckin heathen dirt-worshipper

Wolcott was crazy but trying to change. Couldn't beat it in the end though, and then killed himself over it. So that's pretty tragic to me.
I felt like Tolliver was jealous of Al's status and the way people related to him. Felt abandoned by Joanie, angry that for all his plotting he was still Hearst's underling, full of self-hatred for putting himself in that position. Kind of relatable in a way.

>Even a likable character like Charlie Utter tells Fields to get his "little nigger ass" back in line to vote for their guy.
That was while he was defending him against some racist bullies and the nigger general said "Maybe I'll come back later".

Just finished watching it (I first and last watched it when it was originally airing). Same things bothered me now as they did 13 years ago.
There's just too many comedic elements to the point where they take away from the realism of the whole story, especially when it came to "haha this character is dumb as fuck".
The Wu interactions were fun at the beginning, but again, how many years does it take to actually learn the language, Wu?
No Injuns at all, except in the first episodes.
Trixie suddenly becomes independent stronk woman learning accounting and busting Al's balls and whatnot when she was just another whore in the saloon until 5 minutes ago.
Bullock and Star becoming major players in the life of the camp since day 1 when they're literal nobodies who only had some tend selling tools.
Bullock building a whole house alone with intricate woodwork in what seems like a week.
Storylines that went nowhere like the one with the sister and brother trying to rob the casino.

Attached: con_stapleton_leon-.jpg (847x675, 82K)

it's ambiguous, but there is a scene earlier, during the wedding, where Wolcott is at his desk writing a letter/suicide note/? with an almost empty bottle of booze and a coiled up rope next to him.

>tfw he was almost played by Norm MacDonald

>No Injuns at all, except in the first episodes.
Someone forgot about The Chief, Al's best friend.
>Bullock building a whole house alone with intricate woodwork in what seems like a week.
He had been Sheriff for over a year if I recall from what Al says in the first episode of season 2.
>Storylines that went nowhere like the one with the sister and brother trying to rob the casino.
It was Stubbs/Tolliver character building. Not that anyone cared lmao

What does your astute analysis say of the scene in 3x01 where Hearst brandishes the letter in front of Tolliver 6 weeks later and relates its contents, saying it was retrieved after the death of Wolcott?

Attached: really dude.png (563x584, 486K)

>Someone forgot about The Chief, Al's best friend.
A fucking box that allows Al to show what he's thinking to the audience is hardly any Injuns.
The region was supposedly filled with violent tribes and yet we only saw one that tried to kill Bullock and that had no weight on the story, because he later on went and found Wild Bill's killer anyway.

I assume you mean favorite other than Swearengen. My nigger carried the show.

>Storylines that went nowhere like the one with the sister and brother trying to rob the casino
are you joking? it caused eddie to rob cy and leave town and caused a huge rift between cy and joanie to the point that she left him. not even going to touch your other complaints since they're all as dumb

Literally the fuckin' end of the series, it doesn't count.

Trixie was never just some whore, how could you even think that?
The sister & brother robbers served as character building for Al, Tolliver (contrasting them), Dan, Joanie, and Eddie, and directly informed Joanie and Eddie's actions in later episodes.

Black market marihuana is the only marihuana. Down with the CCC and their bought out tricks. We've seen it all before. Milch has shown us the truth.

TAKE THAT BACK

Thank God Milch has been betting his fingers against Chinamen and is being forced to make kino by the IRS.

A DRY HOLE

Top characters are EB, Al and the doc. Wolcott was well done also

Isn't Milch coming down with dementia or something like that? It's heart-breaking to see how the cast is old now, and how many of them died.

was there a bigger cuck in the series?

Attached: Ep02-Ellsworth.jpg (1280x1024, 101K)

He owes 17 million US dollars to the Rothschilds. Whatever he has was injected into them by Zionists to take down the one Christian Jew in the world.

Alma never sucked a cock in her life other than her dad's. Therefore I maintain that he died as he lived: beholden to no human cocksucker. And working a paying fucking gold claim.

I was sad when he was killed

It was one of the few deaths in a TV series that ever made me feel anger.

Yeah sure but to me it adds another inconsistency mainly with als past. It would seem things were worse for him before so why are the two so close in times passed if this actor character is meant to be a representation of progress/stability ? Judging from als statements his life has been turbulent since the beginning.

Unless I missed something during one of langrishs soliloquies that would have shed light on his motives or intentions im not sure his inclusion was particularly effective.

I just like when langrish says as a young man he was basically a wimp...implying maybe he may have some use.

The movie should have been shot during season 3 and only released now. Future Bullock and Utter find a magical portal that allows them to alter past events, reliving season 3 by executing Utter's plan to murder every Hearst operative and secure the future of the camp.

Goes back to the orphanage in Chicago. The first time.

>No Injuns at all, except in the first episodes

The tension between America and what was left of the tribes at that point was so great, the natives steered well clear of anyone in that part of the country at the time unless it was to make war.

The Sioux guy that Bullock fought by the way, his whole appearance, language and manner was surprisingly accurate.

God tier characters, pure shit tier storylines

Stick to Breaking Bad pleb fuck

When that part was written they may not have known the third season would be the last. I certainly thought the troupe's presence needed more story time to serve its purpose.

Reverend Smith is the only good Deadwood storyline

I have had more dreams about this series than any other fiction written or visual. Usually it's the town and a bunch of random people though sometimes the particular inhabitants from the show as well.

That's a shame, I thought Powers Booth was a decent guy irl

Didn't know nigger general was based on a real person

>believing anecdotes from anonymous posters on the internet

my dad works at nintendo

Al's impersonation of EB

Most of the people in the show were real people. Cy Tolliver was not, though.

Deadwood is Christian kino. Fuck dirt-worshipping heathens

>On August 18, 1876, Farnum was elected mayor, winning 672 votes out of 1,139; in this position, he was active in convincing the Dakota Territories to officially recognize the town and establish a nearby Army post, as well as instituting a pest house to quarantine those with communicable diseases (a smallpox epidemic having struck the town in 1876), and a system of street cleaning, all to be funded out of licensing fees for town businesses. In December 1876, Farnum established the town's fire department and sent the town's first telegram, to the mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming. His position also included duties as head of the school board, Justice of the Peace, and judge; Farnum established the town's first school, in November 1876, presided over the town's first marriage, Fannie Garrettson to Daniel Brown, and presided over numerous trials.

pretty based irl

There used to be a blog that compiled all the copy from The Pioneer where they used his escapades as human interest / comic relief. Some of it was incredibly silly and probably embellished a great deal but they looked at him as the town jester by the sound of it.

He was talking to God and knew he'd fucked up. After he had apologized profusely enough

God sent him deliverance in the form of Jane, that's why he converted once he recovered.

The male characters. The female characters are garbage tier.

they always are

You say that about every show ever made though.

don't say that about based Jane!

When Joanie left it really hurt him, and he tried not to show it but he was obviously distraught. Still not a decent guy but the complete ruthlessness he displayed was a bit of an affectation, he just knew if he showed weakness it could ruin him.

Imagine if this scene aired in the age of twitter outrage

It would be delicious

Making a racist buffoon look like a buffoon would not outrage anyone so take the stick out of your ass.

This. 99% of the time someone who centers their identity around not being PC says "they could never make this today! :O" it's bullshit.

People don't care about context when it comes to their outrage

Well you're expressing outrage over something that didn't happen but might have so I guess it is true in some cases.

Favourite:
Swearengen
Tom Nuttal
Doc

Least:
Wolcott
Jane
Trixie

Is the bi-cycle arc one of the most kino arcs in TV history?

just look at all the protests by SJWs because the slave owners in Django Unchained said nigger

You're naive as fuck. When a obviously evil character in GoT raped someone it caused outrage. People using the word nigger in Django Unchained and Hateful Eight caused outrage. If this aired today they'd say it was Milch using the Steve character to vent his own racist beliefs or some shit

...and you're equally whiny and annoying. It'd be cool to have a single thread where one side or the other didn't force their bullshit ideology into it.

You take very seriously the opinions of microbloggers. It's a mystery to me.

DILATE

At least you agreed that Deadwood couldn't air today because of the dialog.

Go back to you know where

well it was a nice for a while fellas but the hoopleheads have arrived to shit up yet another thread
have a nice night

SAN FRANCISCO COCKSUCKA

>At least you agreed
Except I didn't? People whining online are of no concern to me. Cry about it somewhere else.

I'm sure I've been here longer than you have, and have never posted on that other place unlike yourself.

>When a obviously evil character in GoT raped someone it caused outrage. People using the word nigger in Django Unchained and Hateful Eight caused outrage.

and yet those things didn't vanish from the face of the Earth like you seem to imply

Hey could you two take it to the thread with the celeb tweet about Donald Trump?

>there wouldn't be outrage
>*points out instances of outrage*
>stop taking the outrage seriously
Who said I was taking it seriously anyway? I just think it would be funny

>hoo/pol/heads

When did anyone imply that?

kek

> hurr this would never be allowed to exist today even thought it does

Didn't care as much for wolcott, and that it was the actor's second role in the show.

COCK
SUCKER

Why did they never show Jack McCall being hanged?

That they showed the guys going to get him at all was unusual already. They showed very little activity that happened outside the camp or nearby it.

No one said that. Why are you making things up?

Hearst explains it himself to an extent. He talks about he is most at ease when dealing with his mining endeavors and never cared much for his fellow man, only able to tolerate those completely subservient to him. The more time he spends in the camp with those he sees as willful and beneath him, the more unhinged and rash he becomes.

Deadwood is the GOAT series.

I wasn't lying. That's just what he told me. I think he said Timothy Olyphant was pretty nice, but this was like 10 years ago he told me

based nick offerman

at least he slapped merrick before he said it

Why would anyone like Farnum? He's an annoying bigoted ass-licking parasite.

Because he has some witty retorts at times.

Because he was left out

The most(only) admirable thing about him is that he is a survivor. He is a constantly scheming coward and at the same time comes off as so pathetic no sees him as a threat. Even though he is always surrounded by dangerous people and death, he manages to keep crawling around like a cockroach.

"FUCK THE FUTURE!!'

"You do not fuck the future, the future fucks YOU!"

pretty much this

Milch is a Christian? Do you really mean specifically the Rothschilds or just jew loan sharks? I'm confused by your whole post, but interested.

Does he look Christian to you?

No, and he's married to another jew. That's why I was wondering wtf that user was talking about.

Well you should have known better than to ask if (((HBO))) would give their most expensive show to that date to a goyim.

Let's not pretend like Deadwood is a typical circle production. It doesn't really push any of their bullshit.
