This trailer looks fucking silly. The puppets don’t mesh well with the style of modern trailers with the quick cuts, generic “epic” drums and electronics and that moment where the puppet gives what I can only assume to be a shocked reaction is hilarious out of context.

it´s a prequel so you should watch the 80s movie
otherwise (with out spoilering too much) you probably will be very depressed with how the series ends.

People will tell you "its cheaper" yet present no facts to support this claim. Props are VASTLY cheaper than studio quality CGI, prime example is Danger 5, a series that cost around $20k according to the director. They actioned off props from the show as prizes for more than the whole series production budget.
The reality is big companies don't have the time or the talent on hand to make the props anymore so they outsource to expensive CGI sweat shops.

People were trying to make another Dark Crystal movie for decades, but were never been able to find backers because of how much that movie underperformed. Even as a "cult classic" or whatever its fanbase is pretty small.
The fact that this series has any budget at all makes it risky as hell.

You have talent by hiring talent. The shift to CGI is almost entirely about the benefit of doing special effects in post-production rather than pre-production. It means less risk, more flexibility to make changes, and, most importantly, lots of studio control.
Anyway wtf are CGI puppets? There are some CGI creatures but as far as we can tell the main characters are all regular old puppets.
