It truly is a strange fetish.

Is Cao Cao really a bull if the other guy is already dead? Like sure he got his/their wife/wives, but they're dead so what's the beef?

That scene was just ridiculous, the guys at the gate would enter before the messenger even had time to make it back there.
It's strange that he never wanted a young woman besides those who were married before, yes.

If everyone already knows about it then why did Kongming need to tell that guy about it? Clearly "everyone" did not already know about it, therefore Kongming is lying.

1994 or 2010 version lads

2010 for consumption and fun, and 1994 for clout.

>using the subject field when making a thread

Kongming has no reason to lie. He knows everything in advance before people even know how them themselves will act. Don't question his perceptive abilities.

Attached: no china.jpg (612x612, 104K)

2010 would be one of the best tv shows of all time if it had some of the stuff was that missing from it.

For example no dian wei/A lot of wu content cut.

If Kongming is so great and has magic powers then why didn't he turn off the rain which extinguished his fire?

1994 had the superior OP/ED, and the absolute madmen they actually went ahead and included the Nanman arc, with war elephants (lol get cucked Cersei). 2010 was carried by Cao Cao and its vastly, vastly higher production values. Go with the original if you want a faithful to a fault adaptation of the novel, watch the new one if you're thrown off by all the Chinese names and places and want an easier introduction to the setting and story.

That would be almost as magical as Lu Xun making Shu camp in a dry forest

Do the Chinese have that weird superstition about absorbing powers through sex like the Japs do? Maybe that explains it.

Did Zhuge Liang actually know Sima Yi’s measurements or was it just a really good guess?

Attached: the dress.jpg (640x356, 39K)

Yeah.
Zuo Ci supposedly lived 300 years through sex energy. and breathing.

He gets off on the conquest. He takes your land and your women.

Yes, semen retention is good for the man and stuff like that. Not so much nofap but trying to last longer with women is important.

They believe in Yin and Yang. Males are yang and females are yin. Its bad to have too much yang so you need to literally off load some into some yin.

Cao Cao was absolutely based. China would be a completely different country if he won the Battle of Red Cliff. Fuck those Han revisionist.

More proof of Shu degeneracy.

>Be Gongtai
>nobody ever listens
>could be ruling at least half of China now if they listened

Reminder all Shu's are pretentious hypocrites

Joffrey would have been castrated and made into a eunuch pleasure slave by one of the guro-loving fujoshi princesses that the Chinese imperial court seems to stock in droves. The Donger and Bobby B have a lot in common, now that you mention it, so I think he would acclimate to KL a lot better than Joffrey would to ancient Han China, and the absolute unit himself was a lot more bloodthirsty and vicious than Bobby B, so I can't imagine he'd put up with Varys or Littlefinger scheming against him. It would have been the chopping block for both of those two immediately, and then I imagine he's got like a year tops of wanton rapine in the crownlands before the smallfolk rise up en masse and kill him.

Reminder that historical Chen Gong was implicated in a plot to assassinate Lü Bu, but Lü Bu was too much of a cuck to even investigate him.

Should I watch this? Is it actually good? I'm playing 3k right now so I'm kind of interested in the period.

>Be immortalised as a gay idiot
Why is he always a joke character in everything? Even a shitty gacha game I was playing had a Lu Bu themed event and he ws the joke fodder card.

Would recommend. The entire series is on YouTube right now, except for episode 7 or 8, which you need to pirate from a streaming site or torrent.

Don't phonepost.

It is good, surprisingly good for a non-Hollywood budgeted series filmed under the auspices of the PRC censors. But it also assumes you're as familiar with the characters and general plot as an American would be to, I don't know, the tales of Robin Hood or something. Read the historical novel first (it's available for free online here: ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/l/literature/chinese/romance-of-the-three-kingdoms/chapter1.html) or if you're too ADHD for Chinese long-form epics, watch some "The History of Three Kingdoms in 10 mins" clips on YouTube first.

What the fuck did you just memorialize to the emperor, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Confucian academy, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on the Yellow Turbans, and I have over 300 confirmed duels. I am trained in panda warfare and I'm the top archer in the entire Wu navy. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before under Tianxia, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over scholarly debates? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the Han and your supply depot is being traced right now so you better prepare for the stratagem, maggot. The stratagem that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your imperial commission. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare jian. Not only am I extensively trained in the Analects, but I have access to the entire arsenal of Gan Ning's Braves and I will use it to its full extant to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the empire, you little shit. If only you could have known what unfilial retribution your little "clever" memorandum was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you rebellious lao pifu. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in the Yangtze. You're fucking dead, xiaoren.

The Total War game gives me some info. Does this show contain the Yellow Turban Rebellion? Is Liu Bei as big of a dick in the show as he is in the game?

No, Yes and No. The show starts after the rebellion is over and the donger is already in power. Liu Bei is played pretty well, he harbors ambitions but holds himself to a high standard and puts himself in the shittiest situations because of it, to 2nd and 3rd brothers dismay. Outwardly hes not a dick at all and is kind of a push over for like 30 episodes maybe more, then gets his shit together and starts doing real shit, but only because zhuge liang is a wizard. Hes a fucker in the game and i hate him. fuck liu bei

Powerful men at that time were polyamorous, so this could play out several different ways, depending on what scenario is contextually present. Either the Donger has literally been plucked out of ancient China and is thus very confused and hostile to the idea of monogamy, and so he puts up with Cersei for the sake of not royally pissing off Tywin but spends his time whoremongering like Bobby B and tries his best to ignore her, or the Donger's acclimated to the Westerosi customs, but he still goes out whoremongering like Bobby B and again, tries to ignore Cersei's existence, OR the cultural norms of Han China are also present in Westeros, in which case Cersei's essentially powerless because she's one of his many wives that he married for political convenience.
The show begins near the end of the Yellow Turban rebellion, and doesn't really touch on them except to say, yeah, this is where we chose to start our adaptation. The first couple of episodes are centered around Cao Cao and the Han imperial court dealing with the aftermath of the destruction caused by the uprising. Liu Bei isn't intentionally portrayed as a dick (he's still canonically the closest the novel and the folk tales have to being the good protagonist), but a lot of people have commented on how dickish the actions of the supposed noble and sympathetic scion of the royal house of Liu is.

You know what's cool about those helmets? They're direct descendants of the Greco-Macedonian Boeatian helmet that Alexander the Great equipped his cavalry with. The Han dynasty, about two centuries earlier, had gotten wind of these amazing horses that Bactria, the furthest eastern kingdom that Alexander founded, had for their cavalry, and they fought a bunch of wars with the petty kingdoms lining the Silk Road to get their hands on them for breeding stock. Along the way they also picked up the Boeatian helmet as good piece of kit for their frontier cavalry garrisons, and it stands in stark contrast to the helmets of the Han armies of the interior.

I knew about the War of the Heavenly Horses but it never clicked in my mind about the helmets, that's pretty cool.
Why'd they never adopt it for the interior armies? not suited for the interior armies? or cultural?

what show what year? i will binge watch with proofs

Three Kingdoms (2010)

Probably because he got to show his acting skills as Cao Cao is one of the few characters written who stand out, apparently Liu Bei was going to be more like Cao Cao but people in china got butthurt so he was toned back, which pissed off the actor who played Liu Bei.

Attached: rdn_50da522d6fbce.jpg (950x625, 66K)

>current year - 1800
>be a MILF connoisseur

Based Mengde. Also Liu Bei was a sausage blowing faggot and Sun Quan was a incestous redneck.

So was Cao Cao a bad guy? I thought he was suppose to be pretty decent but doesn't he say he's evil or some shit in this show?

He's a pragmatist.

Cultural chauvinism, undoubtedly. It's a clever and elegant way to mark the Donger and the Ma family as being from the backwater, savage lands of the frontier, both for the viewer and intradiegetically for the characters.

He is evil but he recognizes that it doesn't matter. He will get nowhere by being the good guy. The other "good guys" and fighting each other and are a bunch of backstabbers and cowards anyway. Webm related.

Attached: ourguy cao cao.webm (720x400, 2.91M)

So he wasn't cruel and shit. Unless I guess he needed to be?

I don't know if I'd put it like that. A lot of pieces of fiction that have some political or military drama to them have your Byronic asshole chessmaster character who can't fight for shit and relies on morally rigid characters who inevitably betray them once they feel like their values contradict their loyalty to do their dirty work. Cao Cao is that for Three Kingdoms.

The historical man was the one best suited to bringing peace to the realm. He was capable of brutality on the battlefield and political arena and he did make mistakes, but mistaken lenience would have only prolonged the bloodshed in the long term.

threestatesrecords.files.wordpress.com/2019/03/an-introduction-to-three-kingdoms.pdf

He killed a bunch of innocent people and obviously spread warfare, not to mention beheading several and taking the emperor as hostage. But not much more evil than the others, as they would have done the same if they had any balls.

The man and his good deeds have been severely underplayed by the folklore that grew up throughout the centuries. The closest English equivalent I can think of is King John from Robin Hood. Was the real King John a sniveling coward and inept administrator? No, probably not, but that's how the English culture remembers him, because they had to have a hero in Robin Hood and conversely a villain in the king. Likewise, Cao Cao the man wasn't a morally bankrupt sociopath out for power at any cost, but Cao Cao the character from the folk culture is.

Thank you very much! hopefully soon i too can shitpost in these threads

"Innocent" by modern standards perhaps, but guilt by family relation was a real thing under Han law. The logic was that criminals often really did have to rely on their extended family for crimes punishable by clan extermination (namely treason), and that the knowledge that their actions could doom their family members was meant to discourage such crimes.

Cao Cao did not make it up, he just enforced it with brutal efficiency.

Cao Cao would've unified the lands within a decade if he won Red Cliffs. Would've ushered in a golden era.

In the actual history, he's just a guy.

In the original novel based on the history, he's the evil villain.

In the television show based on the novel, he's a nuanced antagonist, with both good and bad qualities. This is done partly because of modern storytelling sensibilities, and partly because Mao Zedong has been compared with Cao Cao, so making Cao Cao look better helps make Mao Zedong look better too.

I haven't seen either, so my opinion doesn't count for shit, but just going off the promo posters it looks like dumb women's interpersonal melodrama about who's cheating on who gilded with a thin coat of """"history"""" to sell it to the network for the fall season. Like you could take everything about those shows, and change the setting to a rich socialite family in LA or New York in 2010 and it would essentially be the same. Part of it is Cao Cao actually being a complex character the actor could play around with rather than a one-note caricature like most of the cast.

Fantastic. It's what sold me on Cavil as an actor and part of the reason I dislike the DCEU. His characters relationship with Henry is great. Good acting and production values all around. Tight character arcs, decent pacing. It's definitely worth a watch.

Hey, I'm not denying it. The promo material didn't sell me on it, and in fact actively discouraged me from watching it.

A man I know considers the historical Cao Cao to be more like Cicero, while the historical Liu Bei was actually the Macchiavellian one. He felt that, while it may have been fiction, Liu Bei throwing his own son the ground may be reflective of his Macchiavellian nature

He also felt that the historical Zhuge Liang cannot be really likened to anyone else and had his own unique traits.

Pound for pound Rome is better, but the Tudors is more complete and runs longer if that makes sense. Plus, there are some legit high points like Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry, Cavil as the Duke of Suffolk, and Same Neill as Cardinal Wolsey. Meyers is just great as Henry though, super charismatic and energetic without being a Hollywood faggot about it.

white enslavement

Is this worth watching? I have chinese gf too so it could be something to watch together, but loads of her chinese period dramas looks like complete boring trash, like Tale of Yanxi Palace

I think it is, most Chinese is crap because of the self-censorship they have to do. Some of the action is cringey and there are unintentionally hilarious moments (the 'good guy' tossing a baby etc). Overall it's good though.

>muh chinese gf
I would not make my white gf watch Master & Commander with me. She'd get bored, I'd get mad at her for not paying attention, no one would end up happy. She likes those boring soap opera melodramas because they appeal to her woman's brain, not because she's Chinese.

There were no whites in the three kingdms

It depends on how you define a bad guy, morals being subjective and all. To the Chinese who wrote and amended the original novel he was a bad guy, simply because his heirs didn't last which proved to them he didn't have the mandate of heaven. So he was vilified in their version, which is what stuck, but he never really did anything that would be considered overtly evil that every other warlord didn't also do as part of their campaigns (for example he never did shit like Empress Lü Zhi who turned one of her enemy's concubines into a blind mute stump and drove her son to alcoholism with her batshit cruelty).

Why can't they use a real horse, but dead. A dead, real horse

Old shitty tire can't stand the pressure anymore. Ignore his retarded filename

They didn't have any dead horses to spare, every one of them was busy being beaten.

>Yanxi Palace
It's actually pretty decent. But censorship ruined a lot of it, especially the murder scenes and how the poor male mc died a virgin.

Attached: 8aa.jpg (501x585, 42K)

In Empress Lü's case she essentially founded the Han Dynasty which lasted for around 400 years and strongly held the mandate of heaven (which is why they vilified Cao Cao as the man who effectively ended it rather than restoring it). This makes her even more terrifying because it would mean historians would be inclined to paint her in a positive light rather than a negative one. Bitch was fucking crazy.

Tires hold an incredible amount of pressure, and if they're old they can blow with a lot of force. My gf in high school had an uncle who died because his car tire popped while he was filling it up, split his face open like a shotgun. And that was just a normal car tire, I've been told by truckers to never drive next to semis because those tires can go off like a bomb.

Who /kongming/ here?

Should just rebel and rule shu himself but nooo gotta stick to that failure of an heir.

compared to the old one he does

Yeah, and Empress Theodora was integral in quelling the riots that ravaged Constantinople and restoring order to the city and the empire, but all it takes is one bitter incel to write libel about her being a wanton slut and next thing you know everyone thinks she was literally a demon that fed on semen. I don't know man, Chinese history is long and autistically documented, but it's clearly not objective or free from bias.

The scene where Cao Cao executes Gongtai is heartbreaking. The only man Cao Cao ever loved

1994 Zhuge Liang completely dominates the role

Chinese historian bias is all about the Asian honour system. The child obeys the parent, the worker obeys the supervisor, the subject obeys the ruler. The mandate of heaven is the cornerstone of it all, those with the mandate are chosen by the gods and those without it are evil rebels, the point of that being, "Obey who we tell you to obey." There is no reason at all for them to make up bad stories about Empress Lü who all agree started a dynasty which held the mandate. Putting it down to "one bitter incel" is an incredibly narrow way of viewing it, these kinds of things aren't just done without context. I don't know much about Empress Theodora but even a quick web search says she was accused of heresy for harbouring Miaphysite fugitives and she opposed Chalcedonian Christianity, so it's not hard to work out why historians in a city that was largely Chalcedonian at the time might portray her in a bad light.

Agreed.

>there's no reason at all for a literal patriarchy to denigrate the accomplishments of a woman no reason at all
>furthermore all Chinese are staunch Confucians and can in no way deviate the slightest from their cultural norms

Hitler did nothing wrong.

If they wanted to denigrate the accomplishments of Empress Lü they would portray her as a slut or a liar or a backstabber, they would not just portray her as brutal and ruthless as those would be considered positive traits. If the story is made up, which I still consider a big if, it would be in her favour not against her, like how they made up stories about Liu Bei throwing his own child on the ground and eating some dude's wife to show how righteous he was.
>Chinese are bugpeople acting in a hivemind
Yes, that is biologically correct.

So you don't think there's any chance at all they might be UP-playing her cruelty and ruthlessness then?
>yeah our empress was a total badass she killed a nigga in cold blood so hot 10/10 waifu of the dynasty

fuck weiniggers

>If the story is made up, which I still consider a big if, it would be in her favour not against her
I think there's a chance sure, but the fact her brutality is focused on one bitch who could have outplayed her and not on every enemy she had like other figures whose brutality is played up makes it more likely to be real than fake.

I wish I could grow out my hair like the steppe guys do.

Based, thank you

the population of late Han empire dropped from like 50-60million in mid 2nd century to below 20million come end of 3rd century. First years of drought and diseases decimated the population, then came the civil wars that broke the empire and launched wars that raged from 190 to circa 260 until Jin unified all three kingdoms. While millions may have died in fights or campaigns, majority of population mostly just starved to death - either bandits stealing, or soldiers looting, or diseases felling weakened peasants.

As for Cao Cao, at 190s with the collapse of central authority, you had 20-30 different warlords "divide the cake" and start building their own provincial kingdoms, waging war on each other, and doing best to come on top.
Many were honestly brutal military men with no care for civilians, some just "I guess I'm governor here" old bureaucrats.
Cao Cao found himself in unique position close to old imperial court, and in the centre of rich northern Chinese plains, the traditional breadbasket.
He enforced policies of soldier/farmers, which meant ordering people to focus on farming and making sure as much land was farmed and as many peasant refugees were settled down to ensure a steady supply of food (obviously so his own armies would not run out of supplies) - but all in, his rule had a certain level of stabilizing effect - making sure everyone was not starving, and then "protecting" the young child Emperor in his home base. While just as ruthless as many other warlords, he was also way more successful, by being more clever, more cunning, more ruthless, but also capable of listening to good advice and inspiring loyalty. And he would have put an end to 30 years of civil wars if not for those fucking Wu shits in the south...

>tfw no long-term Wu/Wei alliance
The one time they team up they kill the greatest villain and save China. Sometimes I like to imagine what might have been had Sun Jian lived, allying with Cao Cao for the Emperor's sake and rallying the south behind him, they'd have been unstoppable.

Cao cao would laugh at white bois honor lol

I doubt the Wu in south would have done that, they had all advantages at defending their home turfs, and the fact was, all 3 kingdoms were capable of defending their own, and had all problems launching long campaigns into enemy territories, even the largest of them; Wei.
Shu had mountain advantages and was capable of throwing enough men to the meatgrinder to halt most enemy campaigns. Wei had even more men to the grinder to halt Shu campaigns.
Wu was protected by fortifications and used Yangtze river as a natural border, while still having series of defensive structures on northern side of the river, which Wei had then in turn trouble assaulting.
And since the era was full of plots and turncoats and traitors, any massive campaign aimed at defeating enemy once and for all, was most likely doomed from start, either by logistics, defender having too much advantage, terrain, diseases, cost of launching such gigantic campaign, and a 3-way stalemate where if A attacks B, then C attacks A, and so on. Which is why the wars lasted more or less between 210 to 260.

Sun Jian already had most of the south's support during the coalition, uniting the rest with Cao Cao's help would have been a piece of cake for him. Ce did it with even less to work with.

>men to the meatgrinder
>plots and turncoats and traitors
>doomed from start
how to recreate in the modern area?

2010 if you want semi-historical kino where Cao Meng De is truly based, 1994 if you want vanilla ROTK.

Simachads rise up! Shuniggers get the fuck out

I've always thought that if I randomly became a rich TV exec I would make a show based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms but in a fictional post-apocalypse setting, with a Mad Max/wasteland Dredd aesthetic, that way it has wider mass appeal and the story can be more historical than novel-based without having to start a war with Chinks. The Ma clan horselords would be a biker gang and pirates would be mutants and Zhu Rong would be a chick who figured out how to maintain and operate a flamethrower and the magic attributed to the scholars would be because of reverse-engineered tech and shit like that.

This sounds stupid user.

It's the only way I can think of making RotK that doesn't portray Shu as the best thing ever without Chink riots.

Unfortunately, chinks have only money instead of souls. I feel you

>big titty jungle bitches
sauce?

>not the 'LU BU CRU'
come on

Don't let your dreams be memes user. If Journey To The West could be adapted (twice!) into a post-apocalyptic AU then RoTK can too.

I would do the same but I'd whitewash everyone and tell the same basic story, but the way it should be done: with WHITE MEN

Fun fact: when I first saw the poster for Kingdom of Heaven, I thought it was a Western retelling of the Three Kingdoms
