The Cage is a horrible first episode. It's barely watchable trash that can only remotely be appreciated after watching every other episode of Star Trek, when you go back to see how this whole franchise started. I'm not being bitchy or autistic, The Cage is a horribly acted rambling story with some of the most low budget, amateur effects you can imagine.
It's like watching one of Gene's home videos. Ignore it for as long as you can and don't listen to anyone who tells you to watch it. They're still plugged into the Matrix.
