As much as I like Lena and appreciate her work in acting, I think she was the ideal cast for this role. Cersei is described to be the most beautiful woman in Westeros. A woman engaged in depravity, lust and intrigue. She knew her prestigious position and was incredibly vain because of that. She was incredibly charming and flirty.
I just don't think Lena was as beautiful or had that kind of "Cersei beauty". And the way she carried herself in GOT, fit more to a warrior queen, than a seductress and a conspirator like Cersei.

This is always a problem in adaptations when character are described with an almost impossible beauty. You will always picture someone perfect looking and it is impossible to translate into reality because beauty is subjective.
Cersei and Daenerys both suffer from this (and Margaery to an extent). I can't see anyone else in their roles, but you have to admit Cersei becomes much more homely with that awful short haircut and Emilia has too much of a round face for what everyone imagined Daenerys to be in their minds.
