Did a biorobot really slice open his boot/foot with irradiated graphite or is it something they wrote into the episode for added drama (as if there's not enough already)?

Seems unbelievable that you wouldn't watch your step carefully when you're on a surface that has a a lot of heavy and variably sized material that can kill you.

almost certainly yes

So how would /rbmk/ react if the final moment of the final episode reveals Carcosa resides within the sarcophagus?

I laughed out loud when he said this

...

You're stressed, possibly panicked.
You've never been on that roof before.
You are not used to your gear.

I see all sorts of problems that could lead to a spaghetti situation

They added it in for needless drama. Pretty much everything that comes off as pointless extra drama is just the writer pushing his narrative in your face.

Masha is right next to the steam stack, so the helis couldn't go very low. And let's be real, if the generals and the officers and everyone you talked to on the way in kept telling you:

>90 seconds
>one and a half minutes only
>absolutely no longer
>you have 90 seconds
>NOT A SECOND LONGER
>WHEN THE BELL RINGS DROP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND IMMEDIATELY COME BACK INSIDE

If someone told me the next minute and a half would be the most important moments of my life, I'd probably get a bit spooked. And of course:

>I can't breathe in this mask
>this gear is hot
>I just ran up ten flights of stairs
>9 0 S E C O N D S
>wtf this graphite weighs a shit ton

I'm under the impression that it's not nearly as high as chernobyl, and the suits and spacecraft are enough to protect you for the duration of your mission

Why wasn't this shown? It would have been more interesting than spending a half-hour on the petsquad when the culling could have been handled in a few minutes of episode time.

>Space is also highly radiactive right? How many roentgen is out there, for example on the moon or the ISS?

Earth has actually two protective layers: magnetic field and atmosphere. The ISS still has the magnetic protection.

But I think airline crews get more radiation throughout their career than astronauts do. Since they fly for hours everyday while astronauts typically only make a handful of rotations.

That doesn't look like debris, I think they brought it with them.

It might be some sort of stretcher. Put it on the ground next to a spicy rock, shove the rock onto it, then lift and carry.

Forget remote control if they didn't have it already, anyone building that crane would be dead before they climb to the top. You cant put a big crane like that on wheels either.

>Why are there white stripes on the bottom of the pic
literally radiation damage to the film.

Radiation bleached the film. It was a traditional canister camera so the film has holes in the top and bottom for a gear to advance it through the camera. The gear partially shielded the film, resulting in the stripes.

They're trying to keep the radioactive material in the core area so they can safely build a sarcophagus around it

>Tiny rocks hurtling around fast enough to punch clear through steel
Those are only a problem if humans don't throw out their damn trash properly.

How do you plan to do that without wrecking the core even more?

Actually, it goes on treads. But that wasn't an option here - sweeping the debris would require a heavy, clumsy sweeping attachment, which would just as likely break the graphite into even smaller, less manageable chunks than sweep it over the edge.

This is why the Ukrainian military still patrols the place.

his hairdresser

So why was the helicopter there? They were still dumping sand and boron?

Why didn't they just fill a blimp with fire extinguishers and pilot it into the core?

What is feedwater and what makes it dangerous but not too dangerous

I bet it's lonely.

My father was one of the liquidators, being part of soviet military. Got some exposure, especially white blood cells were affected. He is currently head of local Chornobyl rights activists.

I was conceived and born very shortly after. When my mother got pregnant and caring, she was persistently told that she should have an abortion, even doctors that ran some tests said that I might be some kind an abomination deformed mutant (needless to say, I'm not). But my mom was adamant of having me (big thanks to her), so here I am. She loves me very much to this day.

I have my Chornobyl documents that earned me a spot in the university, free social transportation, but I've hardly used them, and since I'm 18 I've stripped from all of them rights. But that's not a big deal, the real sad part is that real people involved are stripped of many rights too nowadays.

Regarding health issues, I have a few, but how or if they are related to Chornobyl is unknown and could be purely speculative. So I'll just tell them. I was born after 8 months and my weight was 2 kilos only. My skin was black-ish, which is ironical considering how pale I'm now. I have some "seals" in my thyroid. I'm one of couple of thousand humans who has their teeth to fall out a few times and then they grew back again, until on 4th time I've actually grew normal teeth. And I have a Borderline Personality Disorder.

No it's the radiations. Even in the movie you got white spots because gamma (i think) radiations fuck up the film

damn

How do I know that?

Unironically explained in the episode

The Zone will remain unusable for human habitation for 20,000 years. It will likely outlive Ukraine.

hng

Aren't only the hotspots truly fatal now a days, there's animals n shit that live round there fine

Everything except that last one sounds like what I'd expect from an irradiated baby. Sorry about your BPD though.

Puncturing the rubber likely did nothing to increase his exposure. Getting his foot stuck underneath for so long did

Why would be it in a gradient and with sprocket holes then?

Gamma penetrates camera so it would just fog up the film evenly.

Honestly though, driving around half drunk shooting irradiated dogs with a nugget listening to afgan war stories sounds comfy as fuck. I'd do it.

dude just because they were soviet doesn't mean they were all psychos

Radiation numbs you, then the first atoms they split are to do with numbing of the body, so they would be as good as drinking 3.6 litres of water.

First was the best. This one spent too much time on the hunting story.

They were already dead bro, you're simply saving them from pain later.

Most of the zone is safe to VISIT, but LIVING there is another matter entirely.

There's bits sitting about outside (not like the ultrahot indoor bits, like the firefighter's uniforms and the Elephant's Foot) that give off ove 100 uSv/hr. Note the chart. you'd get what is SUPPOSED to be a yearly background dose in just under two days exposed to that stuff.

The short term effects are nil but long-term the problems are very real. You can visit. You should never stay.

In short, yes. Some animals have also developed a natural resistance via selection. It mostly involves naturally creating certain enzymes to prevent their bodies from absorbing excessive amounts of various dangerous isotopes.

What does a butter and caviar sandwich taste like?

Just because film is not that sensitive to gamma rays.
Because it would do it evenly on the whole film.

Tell me then, what shielding in the camera created the specific pattern of the film sprockets?

Don't forget, lenses create images on the film upside down, so part of the film closer to the ground was actually the top part of the image.

I've provided example of development issue - bromide drag due to lack of agitation during film development. Which you can find examples of if you google "bromide drag"

...the film sprockets.

And it's penetrated the whole image, you just can't see it on top because it's all sky.

Also, this would have been a Soviet camera. Do THEY use inverted film?

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING

Don't watch Saving Private Ryan. When they go to the table to count the dogtags the crate isn't ontop of it, in the next shot it is. Completely ruined the movie for me.

It was radiation, comrade.

I suppose you know what editing is since you're watching a series about a sequence of events unfolding over a span of months.

I think it was the cameraman raising the camera over a bit of debris.

It also looks like a poorly hidden modern golf cart/lawnmower or something in the ditch when they pan out desu

So how many of those people who did the shoveling actually died?

Man it is hard to believe something invisible like that can kill you so horribly, if i were in that time, i would have thought the world was ending

Basic lens physics, any lens invert the image upside down to focus it on the film.

Bromide drag also penetrates the whole image.

Are you gonna tell me that thin piece of cellulose can shield itself effectively from gamma radiation coming from every direction some air gaps will make significant difference?

It's photographers fuck up I tell you.

>So how many of those people who did the shoveling actually died?
Officially? Zero.

Nobody, they had elevated cancer probabilities, but nobody counts that in USSR.

Very salty, iron-y, with a creamy buttery finish

Don't even try and make a film, it would be shit.

But if being up there for 2 minutes cuts your life expectancy in half, wouldn't being up there for 9 minutes basically kill you?

I think they had 40 second rounds in those cases, so it's more like 3.5 minutes

you realise he is carrying it all under his right arm, that green box is what holds it all.
basically it cut out about 10 seconds of him putting it in the box.

The real footage is better.

Show us bromide drag. And while you're at it, explain how THAT works.

I shown two examples already, you can find more by just simply typing bromide drag into google images.
