all the reviews say the script and the humans are shit, but there is plenty monster action. sounds kino to me

The mainstream reviewers are complaining that there's not enough people, too many monsters.

That's a good thing for this kind of movie.

>And that's a good thing.

>critics complain about to much human shit not enough monster action in 2014
> critics complaining about to much monster action and not enough human shit in 2019

We don't deserve this kaijukino

Amazing. Yea Forums actually went 4/4 on this. It's too bad you retards weren't dumb enough to make one of those box office charts because that would've been hilarious.

Attached: 1552406544828.jpg (720x480, 154K)

They actually did it.
They actually made a Godzilla film that's actually somehow more boring than Godzilla 2014 as they continue to fail to grasp how and why the original Gojira 1954 worked as both a monster film AND a human drama in the most near-perfect way possible.
I'll continue to wait for Anno's Shin Godzilla sequel like a true patrician.

What the fuck do you want critics

Attached: 4 (1).png (128x128, 9K)

Literally every shot from the trailers was like 90% digital blue storm and an occasional silhouette.

What most people on this board don't understand is that the Godzilla is a JAPANESE franchise. Only the based Nips can do Godzilla justice. (((Hollywood))) needs to give up.

Why do Americans have such an autistic obsession with Godzilla and Sonic? Literally no one outside of america and japan gives a fuck about these CGI fuckfests

A mid ground

america and japan are the 2 best countries

>Godzilla: King of the Monsters is now the worst American Godzilla movie. Say what you will about Roland Emmerich's, but at least he showed Godzilla a lot.

what do they mean by this

sounds like the right flick for Armond White to praise as a cultural post 9/11 post Obama absolute masterpiece

Attached: armond-white.jpg (550x325, 32K)

Hollywood can't do that.

And honestly not even Japan. To this day the only ones that have a middle ground are 1954, Shin and perhaps 1984

Israel and Japan*

no monsters and more faggots and blacks.
And if you really want a monster it should be a giant Trump.

>I'll continue to wait for Anno's Shin Godzilla sequel like a true patrician.
Anno's Shin Godzilla was perfect but I'd rather not have a sequel.
The ending was perfect but the "sequel" would be awful with with the humanoid small godzilla mutants spawned/evolved from the tail running around as the film implies

Proof that Godzilla 2014 is the best movie in the series

The trailer literally showed explosions, monsters wrestling and skreeeonnnkss

If any dumb fuckers and moms went in thinking they'd be some heavy plot and focus on the humans is retarded. 2014's biggest complaint was not enough Goji and too much bland humans, and now they're complaining theres too much monsters in a MONSTER MOVIE. If its not a default abengers movie, its bad right?

Just wait for the important reviews that actually matter

Attached: 1531968875566.gif (317x237, 1.06M)

have you seen the trailers? there's no possibility something bad comes out of it

With a bunch of disinterested critics whose entire opinion we can already guess whether positive or negative (lots of action = good/bad and probably character motivation and shit like that) 48% on RT and 60 on Metascore (or at least it was a second ago now there are only 16 reviews again I don't know what's up with that) we're gonna get exactly what we want.

Annoshills leave.

Shazam has a 90% score though? Or are you switching between score and box office when most convenient?

It’ll become fresh eventually bros!

based

Attached: 1558456806838.png (695x597, 462K)

Once again, Gojira 1954, Godzilla 1985, and Shin Godzilla are the only good Godzilla films anymore. Every time, and I mean EVERY time, that they go into the route of multiple monster fights in subsequent films that follow, the integrity of the franchise declines in terms of quality, taking the capeshit stance of pandering to braindead normies who want to see their favorite giant monster mindlessly beat up other creatures either from space, artificially created, from beneath the Earth, or through time travel; extreme amounts of retardation that continue to ruin the moral message of the original movie.
Hence why the oversaturation of dogshit leads to reboots followed by more shitty movies and more reboots in order to capture that creative spark again. It's like an ouroboros; a constantly self-devouring property that's reborn in every cycle after consuming too much of its own self worth. I won't be surprised if it gets rebooted again, on the American side, after this.
Godzilla, as a franchise, needs fewer movies and more room to breathe between sequels, with actual talented directors and writers involved who understood and researched the 1954 film to the fullest degree possible. Milking it to the normie masses who only want constant giant monster fights will only degrade the overall quality moving forward, as was the case of the original timeline back in the 50s - 60s, hence its 1985 reboot and beyond. At the same time, the Americans should learn how to do human drama the right way and observe how the Japanese did it with Shin Godzilla and Gojira; movies with actual INTERESTING characters with actual, relatable human qualities to them. None of this boring SJW crap or 30 minute cameos of top-paid celebs, like in Godzilla 2014. I long to see an American Godzilla on par with the 1954 original, but Hollywood hasn't reached that point yet.

Attached: zed98.jpg (600x600, 48K)

I could tell from the last trailer that it was going to be shit

That ending was weirdly disturbing, as was Godzilla in larval form. How did they even think this stuff up? Though I guess when you have the NGE man directing...

>another jew: too many monster fights

Sounds like an exquisite Godzilla film. I’m even more hyped now

The movie was good but liking it shouldn't make you such a piece of shit to everyone. Give me shippers literally anyone is better than those fags. It's always shinfags who start this shit I doubt they're fans at all if that's their reaction after a dozen reviews from "professional movie critics".

Well it's 50%. I think it's obvious we want majority to like it but not everyone. Those early critics are specific so 100% would be suspicious to say the least. But will it beat Aladdin today?

Meh, I prefer how it looked in Nausicaa, that whole sequence was brilliant and perfectly animated, Anno was really talented

No, apparently there's way more clearly visible fights, probably a lot of daylight action.

>Godzilla: KOTM is all flash but no substance. The endless fight scenes between the monsters make this feel like a Saturday morning cartoon rather than a mature Hollywood movie which this production sorely needed to make it anything more than something for the kids to mindlessly watch. It sorely lacks the emotional weight and connection of other humans in this world as it barely has much needed human drama. Save your time and money for a better movie as we hope that Hollywood moves away from this mindless trash to more thought provoking cinema.

It's about regular brave humans working together to defeat the monster.

Things critics hate and young males enjoy

>masculine heroes
>hot female leads and supporting roles

The reason the critics loved disney capeshit was cause it was a parody of all this. The characters constantly laugh at the premise of comic book heroes. This is why they also hate BvS and MoS because it dares to have serious themes.

To be honest, that's the gutted American version of the movie with old, fatass Raymond Burr

>if you wanted a Godzilla movie that had something, anything to say about its destruction? Then you’ll be definitely looking for something meatier than Ghidorah flank to chew on.

>Globe-trotting but not adventurous, action-packed but not remotely exciting, utterly overstuffed and completely paper-thin. Nuke it from orbit.

>Unfortunately, the film’s plot is needlessly confusing, and not all that smart at times, and the lead characters could’ve used a little more fleshing out

>A sloppy, stitched-together offering with no sense of self.

>The whole movie is indistinguishable rubble.

This is a movie for people who want to watch Godzilla brawl with other monsters for 2 hours. Straightforward popcorn flick that tells you exactly what it's about in the trailer. Critics can shove a pinecone up their ass.

This
It's an apology for 14 not having enough fights and daring to cut away from one just to show it on the news, silently

Tracking for 55 million opening.
Combined production and marketing around 280 million.
Break even point of nearly 600 million.

Hellboy level losses incoming lads

does this mean godzilla in the west is dead again?

How is it possible, bros?! The trailer had so many kino shots and moments

So looking at the negative reviews the human characters are bad, the dialogue is bad, the monster fight scenes are uneven and sometimes obscured by rain of the darkness of night. Possibly the scale of the monsters relative to the world is not shown in the best way possible.
But there are good sets, the monsters look nice and the movie is mostly preoccupied with having monsters fight each other.
As expected then.

Is Godzilla a dude or a chick?

>Critics can shove a pinecone up their ass.
They already did when they decided to become critics, why do you think they're seething all the time?

They just don't like it as much as actors-driven movies. I guess the ratio is fine for the first reviews it will probably be around 70% later we still have like 250 review to go.

The man's still a genius.

Right now 1 review = 2% so this should speak for itself.
54% now.

Saw it at the premiere the other night. It really is a great film if you want Godzilla fights. The problem that a lot of the critics are mentioning is that the humans are never apart of the action, mostly watching it from far away. If someone wanted to, they could easily edit out every human in the movie because of how detached they are from the monster action which I would gladly prefer.

Except Hellboy had ZERO hype and was hated the moment it was announced, unlike Godzilla.
Also there’s no official number for Marketing.

>"If you go to these things to see cities flambéed and flattened, you won't leave disappointed. At the same time -- almost impressively -- director and co-screenwriter Michael Dougherty is savvy enough to make the human drama monster-shaped."

Blessed dubs.

costume design is actually more important to porn than the human subplot is to godzilla

Because they have no fucking idea how to analyze anything else. Critics haven't been this dumb since the 90s, when they were looking at action comedies like Hudson Hawk and Last Action Hero without a hint of irony. They actually lambasted those for being humorous despite starring action actors.

because dipshit consensus happens after a certain number of reviews are in just like being certified fresh

Good point. It's more like analyzing a modern porn movie's soundtrack.

The plot is literally spelled out in the fucking trailers: kill Ghidorah to prevent world from ending.

Imagine actually trusting critics

they always add it early. if the score changes a lot they just edit it.
earlier this year pet semetery had really good early scores and the consensus was "sometimes remake is better", but it got a lot of bad reviews afterwards and they changed it.

THIS

THINK OF THE KINO

Get fucked poser. You watched the original and Shin because you watched the director's anime and you think you know all there is to Godzilla throughout his 60+ years and over 30 movies.

Sounds good to me.

Godzilla is a relic from the Kaiju Eiga which took place in post-WWII Japan in the 1950's and 60's. While Gojira (1954) used heavy themes, Hollywood has long sought to remove the themes that portrayed America negatively and replace them with a dumbed down monster slugfest. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a prime example

I'm a huge marvel faggot and even I thought shazam was better than captain marvel. The last 3rd of shazam was a slog, but the entirely of captain marvel was boring.

All the negative reviews are just saying things that are positive, though...

that was great

urrrggghhhh. as if you would give any attention to that.

What's funny is that even with worse reviews it's still going to make more than Shazam and Detective Pikachu. RT is completely irrelvant and you guys should have learned that when Aquaman made about as much as Mary Poppins, Spider-verse and Bumblebee combined

You do realize the Japanese themselves did that long before the Americans did right? He went from being a symbol and metaphor for nuclear annihilation to being a symbol of hope and heroism, then back in the 80's and 90's to being an anti hero force of nature. The 2000s was a mixed bag, but I think 2000 and GMK were the best depictions

Except Krampus was surprisingly well done.

Godzilla vs Biollante, typically the most commonly-pointed-to Godzilla film for compelling human plots past the original, had literally TWO important characters. The runner-up, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, had ONE, as did Godzilla 1954. Human plots are important in Godzilla films, but these stupid fags want them to be the primary focus.

"Adults" in the arts have a preoccupation with seeming "mature". They literally cannot appreciate something for what it is: a fun thing meant to be fun. There always has to be a "deeper meaning" or human element. It's pseud to the highest degree and they are literally incapable of seeing anything else that way, unless it's popular enough that they can get echo chamber web clicks by parroting the "popular opinion" a la the Disney films.

user, please don't misunderstand. I'm referring to what people SAY is the best human plot in a Godzilla movie. Not what actually is.

Yeah is that why they suck the cock of the Marvel movies which are literally all MUH FUN to the point of having a sociopathic tone where nothing maters, heroism is made a mockery of and it's all just a violent kindergarten exactly as Armond described?

>because godzilla has never been solely about the monster fights no matter how much the retards want it to be
And 2014 proved that Legendary Pictures has no idea how to add a human element to a Godzilla movie; their production should just be about monster fights. Leave poignancy to Anno.
>when you see two giant fucking things hitting each other, you want to be like "holy shit" instead of "par for the course"
This movie is such a rarity that the entire thing happening at all is the "holy shit" moment. The rest is just blissful violence.

literally the first movie out of 30 was a nuclear allegory then every one after was monsters fighting with some light thematic elements about the environment to fill out the running time because their budget and effects technology couldn't support a whole film of monster action. Did you just watch Shin Godzilla and then go read some wiki articles about the rest of the series?

>Godzilla didn’t blow up the White House while a drumpf look alike screamed in a high pitched girl noise: 1/10

Well said, user. It's ridiculous. Nothing wrong with enjoying a mindless action brawler for its own merits while appreciating hardhitting drama with the same brain. One day there might come a critic who understands this.

I do not understand neither. What do they expect to find in a Godzilla movie ?

Do you even know what you're saying? "Brave" humans defeating the monster? Working together? Godzilla was defeated by nearly one man in the original, and he wasn't brave, he was reluctant, he was mournful. What he and mankind did to kill Gojira was out of fear. Monster and especially Godzilla movies are about disempowering humans. Even Honda himself said if Godzilla was just a dinosaur who could be killed by a single cannonball it would take away the point of it. Serizawa killed himself because of the terrible power of the Oxygen Destroyer. Godzilla isn't about one thing alone, given it's flexible nature and history, but even the first movie wasn't about one thing and one thing only, much less it being about humans killing the monster. You watch that movie and you see the human characters looking on at the grizzly sight of Gojira bursting from the waves, boiling from the inside out loosing his death scream and tell me it's about defeating the BIG BAD monster because humans are SO GREAT. If I had to say it was about one thing, it's about making peace with nature's wrath and pondering if it's really a good thing mankind becomes just as strong as mother nature.

Why are you shitting your pants after 28 reviews from the most disinterested shitty critics? because normalfags and Yea Forums (who by the way legit think the IDW comics are better than any of the movies) hyped him up like the fucking Leonardo Davinci of monster artists

I can confidently say yes, they did. Or worse, they don't care.
It's astonishing how low-effort this job is.

Yes, because Hanna-Barbera made cartoons and cartoons are for children, not us deep thinking adults

Characters are really important to critics.

>unless it's a "popular opinion"

The MCU fits this to a T. Although Armond isn't wrong in his analysis of corporatized Disney style easily digestible ironic capeshit that isn't even genuine enough to see itself for what it is: wish fulfillment. It's why Shazam! actually stood out as decent capeshit, because it had a sense of wonder with just the right amount of seriousness to feel genuine and not normies ironically liking it out of some collective consciousness of perceived popularity.

Postmodernism was a mistake.

No it's all on Yea Forums, they do this with EVERY movie franchise that gets adaptations in comics, they said the same thing about IDW Ghostbusters being superior to the fucking movie. The Japs unironically love EVERYTHING as a general rule, the movie (or any movie) could be a complete pile of shit and they would either praise it or remain quiet. I think it's that mindset where you're discouraged from expressing criticism.

Oh, I guess Aladdin was good then right?

>In the wake of cinematic story-telling masterpieces such as Captain Marvel and Star Wars: The Last Jedi which show what modern-day Hollywood blockbusters could be, Godzilla returns us to the boring, mindless action that plagued cinema for years. At a time where action movies have shown how deep and thought-provoking they can be, Godzilla rings hollow with pointless action that makes any adult glassy-eyed over bog standard million dollar effects. I'm sure some will enjoy giant lizards slapping each other for a majority of a big budget Hollywood film but for us film-goers, this movie proves that we need far more depth more than ever especially in times like these.

No one is saying cut out all humans entirely, but the human plots were never the point and if all the human characters did was react to the monster fights and run for their lives nothing of value would be lost

I cannot stand people being disingenuous just to put up a front of snobbery. I used to be that way in high school and it sickens me that I was like that. Literally an NPC who just parroted the correct opinions instead of forming his own. I enjoy talking to my best friends about stuff because they at least give me their honest opinions on things, even if I disagree completely with them.

For example:
>friend comes back from his honeymoon
>says, "you know what I saw on the way back from Japan?"
>"what?"
>"In Bruges"
>"That's a great movie"
>"I hated everything about it. The characters, the plot, the setting, the humor, Colin Farrell's stupid fake accent thing.
>"Colin Farrell's actually Irish tho. That's his natural accent."
>"I know, I still couldn't stand it. I thought it was unfunny and pretentious. Dunno why [my wife] or people like this."
>"Really? Well damn....does [your wife] know she married a Pleb?"
>playful ribbing ensues

I disagreed on almost every count, but at the end of the conversation I just said, "hey man you didn't like something I liked. I can't make you like every movie I recommend." And then we played video games.

Attached: 1558231038797.jpg (499x340, 29K)

I've never once been on Yea Forums you turbonigger. I'm just sick of reddit university students shitting on good movies because of LE EPIC MASTER ANNO XDD and hating everything else that came before, and pretending to be all deep and having several dimensions when they probably haven't seen a Godzilla movie besides Shin and maybe 2014 and think they're the hot shit and the best thing since sliced bread when all Shin Godzilla turned out to be was a poor imitation of the original

the thing I'm arguing for is what is evidently missing in this movie that is present in the old ones you fucking turbonigger

you are barely coherent, Shin gets praise for being the closest to the original in a very long time, since 84 I would say, how can you say the people praising it haven't seen anything that came before?

THIS. Thor movies where he’s a bold prince heroically fighting for his fatherland were hated by critics.
