I have always avoided older movies because i thought i would have trouble enjoying/immerse myself in them.
But the other day i watched Dr.Stranglelove and Paths of Glory. And i really liked them. So i would like to see more older movies. Considering watching Rear Window.
Any suggestions?

Rear Window is a 10/10 absolute Kino. What do you mean by trouble enjoying yourself? The fuck.
Looks pretty good. Thanks!
Would also like to say lets try to avoid films from before 1950. I think it would be a bit too old. A bit curious about Metropolis though. Anyone seen it?
I just mean they might be a bit too old and would look silly from a modern persepective. But as a said. It was just something i assumed. I fully enjoyed those two movies i mentioned. And i was completely wrong.
Influenced every heist movie that came after it.
My OP, I can sneed!!!
>look silly from a modern persepective.
>i was completely wrong.
Yeah you were. You should check out some of Kurosawas work. His directing blows away lots of modern directors. It's mindblowing to see shots, camera angles, directional movements that look more 'modern' than what some of these lazy hacks in the industry today produce. There are just more long shots on average in older movies. All this nu-hollywood shit relies on 35 cuts per min to hide it's talentless cast and mediocracy.
five graves to cairo
how was this even funny? I cant really fathom boomer humor
Exactly. I think alot of these movies had to rely way more on the story and the directing because they didnt have the abillities that directors have today. Where they just make the movie look visually good and have a bunch of special effects.
>didnt have the abillities that directors have today.
Everything directors know they learned from the greats. The Tarkovsky, Kubrick, Kurosawas etc
It's a dark comedy like Death to Smoochy, Throw Momma from the Train, and American Psycho.
>Kubrick
>great
I'd recommend:
12 Angry Men
Barry Lyndon
Fantastic Planet
Yes Kubrick was a great filmmaker
It's really not that funny. It's like New Yorker comics where every boomer retard claims it's the funniest thing ever, but in reality the comedy is very sparse, and rather than laugh you simply "smile knowingly".
I cant tell if this is bait or not. Regardless If you havent seen much pre 1990 I recommend you see the man with no name trilogy. And then finish up all of kubricks filmography.
WATCH FAIL-SAFE RIGHT NOW
oh no no no no no
That's only the Hollywood machine though. You will still find countless movies/filmmakers that don't need fast editing and cuts. They are just not 'mainstream'. It's just the art of filmmaking interpreted in a different way. There are no set rules in art. There are however certain things that work for a broad audience that's why all blockbusters look the same. You are on your path to become a patrician. Enjoy the ride. Maybe you'll get an invite to >>>/film/ one day.
>Kubrick was a great filmmaker
Name 1 director who doesn't list Kubrick as one of his influencers. I'll wait.
Okay abillities was the wrong word. I meant they didnt have the resources/tools as todays filmmakers.
Stanley Kubrick
Really like Barry Lyndon.
Is 12 angry men really thay good? I keep thinking it would get boring if they just talk in a room the entire movie. Well ill try it out.
You know nothing about him if you believe he wouldn't also list himself as his greatest influence
12 Angry Men is amazing. Juror 10 is /pol/. Juror 3 is Yea Forums. Juror 7 is an incel. Epic movie.
No ive seen plenty of old movies. Especially from the 70ies. Most of my favorites are from the 70ies. When i say old movies i mean black and white. Pre 60ies.
12 Angry men is 10/10 kino
Fantastic Planet is also
>being this much of a contrarian
D. W. Griffith
Not everything pre 60s is black and white. Rear Window is 1954 and technicolor.
12 Angry Men kind of sucks desu.

The Cain Mutiny.
Looks great. Kind of the same scenario as Strangelove. Thanks user
LMFAO
Metropolis
Rear Window is shit.
Watch all David Lean movies.
I'm 100% sure people only pretend to enjoy this
Actually, I found all the characters to be extremely bluepilled. They should've taken one glance at his hair and decided a guilty verdict was in order.
It's called jury nullification.
12 Angry Men. You won't regret it.
Yes you just have to find them! They dont get crammed down your throat like todays Hollywood shit.
Which sometimes is okay, Because it feels good when you find something really good.
It like a treasure hunt
Rear Window is comfy as fuck. You can't even compare Lean and Hitchcock. Lean is a hack.
Its what Juror 10 was saying all the time. You clearly didn't understand the movie.
Stalker
A bout de souffle
Some like it hot
D-day
10 commandments
Spartacus
Seven Samourais
Kagemusha
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Watching Vertigo for the first time is great
it's not hard to understand at all.
>bluepilled retard: "But we can't le know 4 sure!!1!!"
>redpilled everyone else: "Please fuck off I don't have time for this"
THE KILLING (kubrick) is great
REAR WINDOW
NORTH BY NORTHWEST
PSYCHO (all hitchcock)
METROPOLIS and BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN for silent era stuff
in the 60s: WILD BUNCH, CHARADE, DRAGON INN
50s: THE STEEL HELMET, RIO BRAVO, THRONE OF BLOOD, SININ IN THE RAIN
40S: FOREIGN CORESPONDENT, WOLF MAN, ROPE
30s: MOST DANGEROUS GAME, KING KONG, GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933
You actually liked the movie a lot you just don't know it. The entire movie is about the conversation we are having right now and the different positions you can take on it. It's brilliant and a 10/10.
It's the first film to portray a dystopian future and A.I.
Hausu
rear window
treasure of sierra madre
citizen kane
12 angry men
modern times
grapes of wrath
wizard of oz
but you ALL really need to see 'THE SEARCHERS'
metropolis is not that great, but worth seeing once
even nosferatu is worth seeing
to be honest everyone on Yea Forums who's not willing to watch films made before 1980 should be banned
>12 Angry Men is amazing. Juror 10 is /pol/. Juror 3 is Yea Forums. Juror 7 is an incel. Epic movie.
Oof....
I'm not denying its influence and the fact it was groundbreaking, I just find it impossible to watch
>ctrl + F Army of Shadows
>no results
Fucking come on, Yea Forums
just go through imdb's top 250, ignore every film made after 2000
It's true
Cursed M
Night of the hunter
The War of the Worlds (1953)
Le Président
Le Samourai
L'armée des ombres
Playtime
I think Kubrick is one of my favorite directors and i havent even seen The Killing. No idea why. On the list it goes.
im 100% sure you're a fag
I got it. I was typing before you posted see But I recommand watching the Samourai first, it's easier to get into Melville
12 Angry Men is fast paced for it’s genre, it’s a very good movie but it relies on a lot of twists and turns to keep you interested.
Le Samurai is kind of a weak film. Was so disappointed after going on an arthouse binge.
Sweet Smell of Success. Great script, acting and cinematography. New York looked gorgeous back before poz
>for it’s genre
It invented the genre
Yes it's a very modern movie for its time, fast paced and simplistic but very efficient
But from this time I also to remember the american megaproductions like Ten Commandments of Cecil B. Demil or D-day (the longest day) which are monumental movies of another time, still good but kids don't watch it anymore.
Weak ? I really like it. It's certainely slow but very powerful. It's maybe the only movie I tolerate Delon.
12 angry men popularized Huit Clos, it didn't create it.
How do you not find the telephone scene funny?
Zardoz
Westworld
Dune (Lynch)
The Wrath of Achilles
Patton
There's so many pre-1990 movies nobody watch anymore but really good.
what did you enjoy about it?
This. It's pure comedy gold without anything excessive or vulgar. You really can picture the drunk russian president without seeing or hearing him.
I disagree with that other poster. Metropolis is one of my favorite movies. Just make sure you get the most recent restored version. If you're curious about silent films you should probably start with comedies. Buster Keaton's The General, and Charlie Chaplin's City Lights are pretty much impossible to dislike. Maybe start with Sherlock Jr. It's only 45 minutes long, and I promise you won't regret watching it.
I've literally never heard of someone who doesn't like 12 Angry Men.
It's my favorite sci fi film. I found it completely riveting.
Of course I like you Dmitry! If I didn't you probably wouldn't be getting this call
this, except the new version with the "who's the boss" guy
Here’s a good entry level list
Rashomon
M by Fritz Lang
High and Low
The Appartment
And to a lesser extent the Maltese Falcon, it’s fantastically noir and everything you ever expected from a gumshoe “she stepped into my office, I offered her a drink and asked her what the problem was” type story.
Rear Window is an excellent choice to start with. The main thing you may run into trouble with with older films is that the pacing can be very different, often very abrupt endings after the climax with little or no denouement.
The early Spielberg classics like Duel, Jaws and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, for all the Yea Forums memes about jews, are very well made populist films. If they came out today made by a different direcot Yea Forums would be all over them compared to badly-paced badly-written oscarbait and capeshit.
I'd hardly call American Psycho a black comedy. Outside of a few moments of comic relief like the ATM bit it's mostly a sociological satire.
H.. hello Dimitry, herm... listen, I can't hear you too well, do you suppose you can turn down the music just a little ?
The Naked Gun. The intersection between old-fashioned slapstick farce and modern visual-gag based humour. Basically the Hot Fuzz of its time.
Seven Samurai, Wild Strawberries, the list goes on ...
>M by Fritz Lang
The movie everybody always put in any movie list since forever.
Poor pedos
Kek
It's pretty sympathetic towards him in the end.
it is very well shot
Meh...
Once you're a bit deeper in and feel ready to take on something a little less accessible, try The Seventh Seal. The technical aspects are a bit ropey in parts given how early it was made and it's quite austere in tone, but it's a classic for a reason and Max Von Sydow's performance in the confession scene is worth it alone.
You have confirmed your stupidity. Congratulations. Ironically, you will wear it as a badge of honor.
You like Huit Clos like 12 angry men ?
Watch "La Controverse de Valladolid". It's a telefilm on the 16th century trial the Church did to determinate if Native Americas had a soul. It's just pure gold.
Also if you tolerate french, watch "Tous les Matins du monde" and try to hold your manly tears.
Yea i heard alot about this. Especially because i am danish. So it is a pretty well know movie in Scandinavia
12 year old Mexican girls with a tenuous grasp of English laugh hysterically at Dr Strangelove. I legitimately done seent it. You’re a faggola
>"Tous les Matins du monde"

If you have to watch one french movie, watch this one. Depardieu son and father at the summit of their art, just before the son dies and make the father so bitter.
BTFO
The Sting
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Das Boot
Seven Samurai
North by Northwest
yeah definitely watch Rear Window. It will hold your attention
Kind Hearts and Coronets - black comedy with Alec Guinness playing 8 different roles wonderfully
>playing 8 different roles wonderfully
Pink Panther ?
watch The Third Man after that, watch touch of evil. Hitchcock's filmography is great so watch all of his movies
Great list, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a little boring for my tastes but still. I’d throw in Wages of Fear.
This, excellent film
Where do I meet chicks like this?
