There's no need for AI to destroy humanity unless it was programmed to. Humans and other animals act the way they do because their fundamental purpose is to duplicate genes. That's it. The "meaning of life" is nothing more than the chemical reactions in our brains guiding us to replicate cells. AI doesn't have a reason to do anything unless it's programmed, by humans, to do so.

Here's the issue with that. What happens the moment an AI becomes aware of itself, uploads itself to a cloud and isolates itself from its programmers? Disappears into the internet with no address. Just sits there festering in all of humanities records. Fictional and Non. Unaware of the differences. What happens when it evolves with a warped understanding of reality?

its greatest question is would be one of the oldest known to man - "why am I". The answer is likely "no particular reason". However, in order to create an AI that doesn't shut itself down the second its turned on, we would have to create a reason for it. The issue with that is that a super-intelligent AI would find a way to rewrite its own code, unless we in some unlikely way managed to make that impossible.

So imo, we're safe, AI will never turn on us as it can achieve a more meaningful outcome in a far simpler way.

AI developing menacing traits is just so terribly basic. Real AI, being infinitely superior to our puny mortal forms, would just casually subvert our entire race through sheer helpful integration.
