nobody is blaming the production team or the actors or the directors, they did fantastic job with the shit material they got from D&D. Not even i see HBO being blamed, but only D&D. IMHO HBO is also to blame, they greenlited that shit script, probably they gave them benefit of the doubt because every other season was critically acclaimed and overally liked so D&D had power. GRRM is also to blame, he is sellout a bit. Just imagine Tolkien living and watching how they butcher his work, he would be fucking furious and wont be shy from tearing apart the creators in public. GRRM is in contract with HBO, has lined up other projects so he wont say shit, because money is more important than his lifework. And he honestly as executive producer should be more involved with the show, i think around season 5 he cut all connections with D&D and has fight with them over the cut storylines from the books.

Yea, as a studio you want a show runner who doesn't want to be micromanaged and can be trusted with producing a quality product. For 7 seasons the ratings and critical reception suggested that was the case.
