Le normies consume the same kind of media i like... ohh noooo

Terminator

No, actually it's either Star Wars Ep. 5 or Star Trek

Star Wars is one of the movies that coined the term blockbuster. Lord of the Rings was incredibly huge back then, The Hobbit even more so.
Posting this shit is redundant as fuck, but true non the less. OP needs to get over his incel mindset.

capekino is sci fi

Since forever? Flash Gordon, Twilight Zone, Star Wars, I mean what are you on?

GoT has a lot of stuff that's appealing to the mainstream like sex, violence & vulgarity, I think there's different tiers of what normies like when it comes to fantasy and sci-fi.

No, this is different. I'm not denying that star wars was always super popular, but it was still considered "nerdy". But GoT seems different. Even people like instagram thots obsess over it, which wouldn't have been the case 10 or so years ago with star wars or capeshit no matter how popular it was.

I asked my sister if she finally liked fantasy (knew she hated LOTR and other movies with those settings) after watching GoT, but nope, she still hates it. She just stuck with GoT because of the characters, their storylines, and mostly Daenarys.

My aunt likes sci-fi (Star Trek mostly), but she's fucking weird. I'm not big on sci-fi at all.

Not everyone watched GoT from the season 1. There's a bit of luck involved with what becomes popular. I'm sure the show having a lot of balls when it comes to killing off characters attracted people's attention.

You have to give the show credit for so many things it did well. Conversations were engaging, there were always multiple characters you could like, and the politics/family conflicts kept things interesting early on. If you're a guy, you had plenty of sex and combat as well.

Star Wars, adjusting for inflation is the second highest grossing film ever made
It is and always has been normie as fuck, literally everyone has seen Star Wars except zoomer teenage girls

When they stopped growing up. So the millennial generation, basically.

Companies that owned these franchises figured they could make them more profitable by catering to “a wider audience”. Nerds of those franchises protested because they new normies would never treat their worlds with same intellectual appreciation. So companies did the Disney approach and gaslit the original fans so the normies could feel “safe”. If they were smart they would have tried to find a balance instead of choosing one crowd over the other. Nothing wrong with wanting to make more money so long as the soul of your product isn’t compromised.

It's always been OK to like Wizard of Oz, Star Wars etc. It's still not OK to be a pathetic manchild. People are just less self aware of how awful they are perceived because of the internet.

Now that attack on Titan is considered better than got, when is it becoming mainstream too?
Are we going to see attack on Titan references in the next capeshit movies?

ayo ain't nobody ever like King Arthur
ain't nobody ever like Thor or Hercules
ain't nobody ever like muhfuggin Dracula an sheeeeeeeeeit
ain't no niggas like MacBeth
shit nigga finna get dat nigga card revoke fo bein a bitch ass nigga

It's because GoT is a british soap opera, it is more like Downton Abbey than a proper fantasy.

because every culture had been exhausted by normies it was inevitable they move into nerd culture with assistance from the growing internet age. 20-40 years ago if a normie found out you liked star wars, star trek, comic books or dungeons and dragons you'll literally get outcast. Now its okay to like those things because normies

They do what their masters tell them to

The filming was pretty terrible, but I feel for the underappreciated writer behind the dialogue etc as it was actually well put together. A ton of references made earlier that reappear in future episodes etc. Became cringey at times but still the CGI bullshit let the series down.

There's been an effort from the entertainment industry to push nerd culture to the masses, because it's a very profitable one, nerds spend money on bullshit like champs.

>20-40 years ago if a normie found out you liked star wars, star trek, comic books or dungeons and dragons you'll literally get outcast.
nah, I liked all of these things and played Cyberpunk 2020 in like 1991. nobody cared. Sure there were questions about what roleplaying was about and maybe a raised eyebrow here and there because they read some tabloid article about satanism and tabletop gaming but thats it. we even had a club room in our communal center. shit was dope.

During the pulp era and ever since

lord of the rings obviously
