Nobody wanted Daenerys to win the Iron Throne. There needed to be more time to develop and showcase her descent into madness. It fell flat.

The seventh season should have been ten episodes and should have ended with the Night King being defeated. The eighth season should have been 10 episodes and dealt with Cersei's defeat and Daenerys' insanity/downfall. People don't hate the ending per se (maybe except for Bran becoming King), they hate that there wasn't enough time spent fleshing out the character arcs.

They gave us a "praise her!" scene or three in every season, showing her mystifying the masses time after time.
